The whole preseason, when Policarpio left, and the eventual start of the season, we were all convinced the only way to go b2b was for DLSU to ride KQ all season. Even to the point of making KQ a point forward, play him 38mins/game. Ball in his hands. Mike Philips wasn't in the picture, touting Agunnane instead (oh Lord what were we thinking). Season starts and players are suddenly stepping up, emerging, Philips now running 2nd in MVP. We had Marasigan when KQ takes his rest, capable and bull strong. We had a good enough David as our PG. F4 come and we steamroll. Finals come and suddenly things turn gray from green. G1, UP adjusted, G2 UP falters a won game and we steal 1, and G3?!. In that 3 minutes that fates glued KQ in the scorer's table, we needed that extra hand, the player that was emerging per game the whole season. We asked Henry to make it rain. earlier we asked Marasigan to make it rain. We asked anyone. Well thats the microcosm of the season, the part of the wheel that was on the ground at that time, the 2-3mins out of 40 that we ask KQ not to play. If you ask me nothing went wrong. Thats just the break folks. Maybe the same break Henry Ong needed eons ago. The cards we were dealt.
@chingpaq-e4s absolutely. We played the game. Sometimes, other factors come into play and we just couldn't find enough to go through it as winners. But we cannot fault the effort. They didn't fold even when we were down 14. We took it to them. Sometimes, it's all we can ask for.
Super happy how this game went. The hardest thing in any sport is to go Back 2 Back. KQ playing for us this year is already a bonus and I am thankful for his time as a Green Archer.
Side note: with the number of players UP is putting on KQ during the game, you already know that he is already too big for the UAAP.

The ghost of S84 came back to haunt us and once again UP benefited. I can still remember how we missed FT's towards the end of the do-or-die final 4 match up against the fighting maroons. Games 2 and 3 our FT's were so bad that it eventually caught up in game 3. As much as we wanted KQ to carry us this game, the rest of the guys should've held the fort and made their FT's regardless of whether he was in or out of it. FT's could've given confidence to our struggling shooters and could've controlled the flow of the game during crucial junctions.
Yeah, S87 will probably sting and linger for quite a bit with so many what ifs and what could have beens but that's how it is. We will try to come back stronger next season.

Hingal na. He had to be taken out. Yung malas yung tagal bago mag deadball. Markado na siya. Some shade needs to be thrown at the rest of the team for not stepping up more.

@dushman888 we can see it too so it sas something he needed. He was not looking his sharpest and had to step back. Unfortunately the circumstances prolonged it far too long.
It was a great championship series! Both teams deserved to win but, of course, only one will. No one to blame.

UP just wanted it more. Sometimes belief in a "foregone conclusion" leads to hubris. It's a lesson not only in basketball but in all aspects of life. Also, QMB proved his worth as a D1 athlete.

@kisanbriones8262 spot on. Potentially missing KQ would be big but we have plenty of cover for that. Also, ang dami pang spots na pwedeng magbago given how deep our standby team is looking.
@@QuiverPodcastPH KQ will definitely be a big loss once he leaves or graduate. Luckily, I discovered from another video, Luis Pablo is having extra training with KQ. Matuto tayo sa oversupply ng players, palaruin natin yung may talent, kumpiyansa, aggressiveness.
KQ as lasalle great, papunta na siya dun. pero kung dagdagan pa nya yung championship even MVP under his belt, baka retire #28 na ito. Since you mentioned Standby Team, baka nga Platoon Substitution, maging chicken na sa Team.
@kisanbriones8262 based on the highlights i see this year he's been patterning his game to Kevin's. I dont think he'd be developed that way had he stayed in UP so moving to DLSU is already a win for him!
I assume also na magrerecruit po sa ng mga HS stadouts. For sure, DLSU will be loaded and dead serious of reclaiming the title next year.

It was great that it went to a game 3. Sayang lng talaga since we could have won that game if we hit our FTs or even half of it. I think we got lucky in game 2. I was expecting DLSU to have a better Game 3, but it had a similar tone to game 2, Philips as usual very dependable, but his FTs are atrocious especially UP was in the driver's seat whole game.. KQ came up big start of the 4thQ and mid, but his shot selection is questionable at times since he's always far from the basket. It really shows we lack depth in the 1 and 2 positions since we really didnt have steady pg or sg
@@gabbydolorjr4278 tama, we can consider ourselves fortunate to amhave the game 3 after how it looked at one point in game 2. I think we can credit the UP defense there for really finding ways in limiting the DLSU offense. Even then, we were in it until late in the game. They simply made less mistakes - for that, they're worthy winners.

After letting things marinate a bit after that loss, I think I agree with the take that the team overachieved somewhat. Their success this season masked their obvious flaws, chief of which was a consistent guy that can pressure the rim when nothing else worked. Last year you had Mark and Poli, maybe even Evan, as credible rim pressure guys, without them, you had to rely on Vhoris, CJ, and Earl who all dealt with bouts of injury or inconsistency. Without that consistent threat who can get to the rim, it dragged our offense to the mud and late into the clock everytime we struggled to get Kevin the ball.
But like Vic, I’m not as bummed out knowing na malakas next year. In fact, my hot take is next year’s team, is on paper, stronger than this years team. Yes, we lose KQ, a one of one talent. But the hope is that Mason and Pablo, and maybe even Konov can fill in for what we lose, scoring wise. But the biggest upgrade is in our guards. No disrespect to Josh and Lian but replacing them with Kean and Jacob is like replacing Derrick Fisher and Jordan Farmar with Chris Paul and Deron Williams. The playmaking and shot creation we lost in Kevin can be more than compensated by those two. Granted, coach topex has a big challenge making those two work but they seemed to do fine in their team b games.
@@maosantos11 next year, we'll have "better" problems. Plenty of time for everyone in the pool to find their roles and chemistry with each other. People will feel KQ's departure initially, but we'll have a more well-rounded squad for next season. A lot of time to grow before September 2025.

@upgrademix6791 lopez is a gifted athlete for sure, he just has to keep himself grounded at times. Sometimes he goes for foolish plays. If he can nail down the fundamentals, he'll surely go places.
Derechohan: imposibleng hindi maka shoot si Kevin in that 3 and a half minute span kung naglalaro lang siya sa loob.
It was too big of a gamble in the final five minutes of a game when all the marbles are at stake.
@AnthonyFrancisAndal really unfortunate to not have him there knowing the impact he has whenever he is on the court. Ganun talaga, that's how it went down and the lapses will all be worked on.

My thoughts right now is TOs and FTs really haunted the Archers. And the sub on KQ really ended the offensive momentum we need to comeback from this game. But Still a solid fight, DLSU! Babawi tayo Green Archers! DLSU will be back next year, count on it! With Baclaan, Cortez, Amos, Pablo, and other big recruits coming (I assume magrerecruit pa sila ng HS stadouts) , DLSU will be loaded with talent eager to bring the title back to Taft. Pagsubok lang yan, babalik din DLSU sa tuktok ng bundok ng UAAP. A minor setback leads to a major comeback, solid podcast po ninyo! ANIMO LASALLE!🏹💚

DLSU coaching staff made a big blunder on subbing KQ out in the 4th quarter. It was a bad call to sub out your school's best player and MVP in the crucial moments of the 4th quarter in a do-or-die game.
Any other championship coaches will live and die on their superstar and go All in, and live on whatever the result will be in the end win or lose.

Replace your coach guys.. he just became the chot reyes for the uaap. Not making wise decisions. KQ sitting even when UP is up by 3. Assistant coach clearly stepping in on the last play. Replace topex.
@@GTOjudge1205 we've been chopping and changing coaches since we lost Franz. I'd like to think we're more patient with these things. Then again, you are entitled to your opinion.
Coach Topex brought DLSU to tye finals. I guess other schools want us to change and bring chaos again. But we are smarter than that because Topex brought the winning culture.
@@complutense100 imo, in think coach topex got lucky andyan si KQ. It was relatively easy to create plays surrounding a good player. That is why DLSU became beatable by the end of this tournament because lahat nakadepende kay KQ. Plan was generally stop KQ, win the championship. Makikita naman sa team distribution ng points na iilan lang ang pumupuntos sa DLSU team. So I hope, topex would find a way to improve the rest of the team next season. Focus on improving all members of the team and developing plays that would involve everyone.
Coach Topex and the entire staff are building a culture - grabe naman impatient kung gustong ipagpalit nanaman looool next year when champion ulit, sasabihin na galing galing ni coach! Tiwala 💚

Why will u wait for a run or when u lead especially if that happens in the 4th qtr na wala na too late na. Sa tv nalang sana nanood. Sa Ateneo-UP, mga matatanda nga tumatayo minsan para maghype ng crowd. I barely saw anyone sa lowerbox or patron sa green side na nagganun. You claim tk be maangas pero tahimik buong game except 4th qtr
@WesleyGonzalez-y1n some of us are, mind you. But it's not been contagious enough to infect the community.
Also, ateneo hasn't been that noisy even during the 2010s. The noisiest it gets is during a scoring run. You don't always shout get that ball or fight loudly as well. Its usually the babble members, much like our animo squad. Maybe against UP, you are a bit more rowdy. But not as much against the others too.

Refs missed on the moving pick of QMB which freed Maimai for them to get the lead back at 61-58. Di sana sila nakabalik sa driver's seat at fouled out pa yung 'only able' big man nila. He hacked Lian after that when we managed to get closer at 61-60 but the refs again missed out on that 'and one' play. Breaks of the game that did not go our way!
@AnthonyFrancisAndal conveniently missed but we can't really be salty with those. Unfortunately fouls can't be challenged, especially non calls. The lesson is to not leave things to chance and hopefully we see it next season.
Well, that was a painful game. Nevertheless we fought hard. BUT! HUGE BUT! Had we sunk our FT's and if those shots of David were counted, we could have won. Nasa DEEP POCKETS ang mga ref nina Jonvic, Robina at BPI sad to say :P Yes UP wanted it more, but we could have given Francis Lopez another upset had someone stood in front of him from that 3-point shot.
Refs targeting Philips, obviously a given. KQ just cannot lift this whole team up. If those 3 point shots did not come through, saksak. Eh kaso with the likes of Vhoris nakabantay na ang mga ref sa charge regardless if siya ang masaktan. Sorry, it could have gone our way so I believe naka chamba talaga ang UP dito.
But after all has been said and done, much respect to Mai Mai for singing the Alma Matter Hymn alongside La Salle. Kung may Robin lang sana sa Batman ni KQ (at hindi si Mike, isa pa), kaya pa natin manalo sana. And there goes the lucky S87 for the hosts who dodged the curse :P congrats pa rin pero, we're watching you on S88.
@LuntianMagpakailanman we can't really say it doesn't hurt because it does, more because we didn't get to bring out the best version of the team in the series. Maybe that's a credit to the UP defense, among other factors.
They deserve their moment for now. Let's be grateful to the team for fighting for the green and white. Next season, they'll come out stronger and wiser from this.
