Hello guys, welcome back to Car Obsession, and welcome back to another POV drive. This time it's something rather special as earlier this year I was thrown the key to SEAT UK's heritage Mk2 SEAT Leon Cupra R. This is one of the hottest hatches of its time and this particular example has covered less than 10,000 miles!
Under the Speed Blue painted body is a 2.0 litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine as used in the standard Cupra. It has, however, been tickled a little bit to offer more power. The Cupra can offer 240hp with 300Nm of torque in standard form, but the R boasts 265hp with 350Nm.
This is thanks to changes to the ECU, gear ratios, and turbo boost pressure, plus the high-pressure fuel pump has been revised. 0-62 is achieved in 6.2 seconds, which is respectable even by today's standards, and the top speed is 155mph. This power is fed to the front wheels via a 6-speed manual gearbox.

Nice video. I have a face-lift mk2 Cupra (not R). Makes the exact same noise. Does the pre face-lift not? Mine is, obviously, remapped.

@@CarObsession maybe they only made that noise on the face-lift, or maybe it's a noise generator that someone removed from yours? Some people complain about the noise generators. If that's what it is, I actually like it and it adds to the enjoyment of driving it
@@alivekicking6247 I wouldn't have thought a car as old as that would have a sound symposer, that's more of a modern thing
@@CarObsession hmm, maybe. I would like to think it's from the manifold or something, but I am sure the VAG hot hatches of around 2010 all had added fake sound. It's a great noise though; sounds like a larger engine in gear under load and sounds dramatic at higher revs.
