I feel this "final battle, where our true enemy awaits" like the begginings of the Armageddon of Shin Megami Tensei V.
Guided by the Demi-fiend, Lucifer's troops defeated Bethel while Lucifer dethroned Jehovah in the Empyrean... then, twenty years later, we have to deal with the consequences of this True Demon Ending.
Demi-fiend's presence in SMT V and the correlation between some elements like Magatsuhi (key to Nocturne) or the Tokyo Diet Building let me think that is plausible...
what i imagine happened was they beat god but both died. Lucifer announces his win to Bethel but doesn’t have enough strength to break the reincarnation cycle after the fight. He dispersed knowing the Gods present for that fight would keep his words in mind and look for their knowledge.
I've always interpreted it as soon as they defeated Jehovah, Lucifer had the Demi-fiend sealed away so there wasn't a chance that he would potentially betray him. After all, Chaos is built on the idea of relying on oneself, so loyalty isn't exactly common there. Would his new form beat the Demi-fiend? Who knows? But its easier to seal away a threat rather than fight them.

You people didnt pay attention to the details. The demifiend was created to lead the charge against the creator and that was it, he was always a willfull pawn.
Lucifer obtained his knowledge after killing god, thats when he came to understand what the mandala system was but by that point, Lucifer was doomed as he himself became part of the mandala system, unable to break the loop from the inside.
Fortunately for Lucifer, after defeating god, the curse of knowledge is lifted and thats how the MC comes to exist as the Nahobino. In the "real ending" the nahobino is groomed and lured into da'at to find and kill Lucifer by Lucifer himself, destroy the throne of creation and the mandala system all in one fell swoop.
Luci was pretty much screwed as he unwillingly became part of a loop that would inevitably undo everything that he had accomplished and thats why he thanks you after you finally defeat him and put his ass to rest along with the corrupt system that was bound to restart itself over and over.

@@Antasma1 I absolutely hope he does. Someone pointed out how Nocturne focused on Chaos, 4 focused on Neutral, and theorized 5 will probably focus on Law. So I think it would be absolutely amazing if a True Demon Ending Demifiend appeared as an embodiment of chaos to conflict with your character's more lawful focused nature. Probably should just be an optional boss though, like Digital Devil Saga.

One of if not the best Chaos endings in SMT. It's not played evil at all, more noble in fact. In my opinion tone wise this is the best ending for this game. SMT Nocturne is a very apathetic game, and considering the futility of it all the idea of just destroying creation sounds cool. The fact that this was the only ending added makes me think this even more.

i really like how this ending mirrors the story of Genesis: The Demi-fiend follows Lucifer and metaphorically eats the fruit of knowledge. In doing that he destroys his paradise (universe) in the process

Both Freedom & True Demon are the perfect forms of rejection to God, but honestly I prefer this one.

Freedom does the same thing, minus the edgy nihilism, so Freedom is better.
Freedom doesn't truly free the world. Yes, the world us recreated as it was. Everything us back to normal but "The Great Will" still lives. As long as he is alive the world will forever be under his control. As such, true Freedom is not attained merely a freedom remaining ignorant to the true mastermind.
In the True Demon Ending, The Demifiend alligns with Lucifer and joins the fallen angel to kill "The Great Will". Sadly, his world was erased. However, they can atleast free the other worlds.
A noble ending. Sucess never comes without Sacrifice.

This might be the more overtly gnostic ending in the whole series and I love it so much (Though more oriented towards antinomian and anti-cosmic satanic gnosticism rather than Valentinian or Blakean gnosticism)
The ideas of gnosticism and gnosis are present throughout the whole series but this is the most explicit and amazing depiction of its core ideals. They really reserved the best ending for the best spiritual belief out there

But at the same time it might be better as demi is NOT a child of prophecy or something the great will foresaw , so in the end Lucifier may have made a weapon that could end up destroying him as well as his enemies

Well, maybe Chiaki reaches the top of the tower this time? Or isamu? Or MC widows peak?
But if the world is born again and Lucifer does the same thing over and over again then you begin to understand why the prophecy says the Demi Fiend will create a new world.
Because the Demi Fiend has tried countless times, succeeded enough and failed enough and so he decides to end this cycle of creation.
True Demon Ending is inevitable, because all it takes is for Demi Fiend to understand that he is trapped in a prison of death and rebirth and Lucifer is his path to freedom.
I mean freedom ending is pretty neat actually. Kagetsuchi is gone. The conception will never happen again unless Yhvh interfers directly. And for that to happen, he has to leave heaven,which according to devil survivor, will make him massively weaker. And we all know what happened last time he left the heavens. He got owned by a human. Tf is he gonna do against demi fiend?

Isamu and Chiaki got fucked in the head, the only reason Demi-Fiend was fine was because he didn't get his ass kicked constantly because of the power he received.

If we talk about SMT, TDE is totally the best ending. Remember every real SMT games are about world destruction either by system or demons. If you wish for true happy ending, then play persona or raidou
Even SMT 5 doesnt really consider true neutral ending as happy ending since you still have the world but you also meet your own double, thus opening chances for another destruction
The only bad endings is were you don't finish the job A.K.A Demon Ending, which is just a fancy neutral route

demi fiend was real close to having the same cursed fate as hijiri / aleph if he didnt win his ones with kagatsuchi
that probably only applies to the freedom ending where his soul remains human, but he still goes against the great will. aleph was still a human when he did his deed. once he becomes a true demon, with his soul losing all humanity, becoming a pitch black demonic soul, i doubt he can become part of the world ever again, otherwise lucifer and all the other demons under his command would be going through the same. he probably either gets destroyed, or if too strong, gets cast out to the fringes of the amala universe like lucy and the others, since at this point he's just another demon, and demons have no place among creation.

I just had the weirdest bug ever after defeating Lucifer.
After going through the level up screen the screen became black, but I still saw the text of what they said and heard every piece of dialogue. Didn't see the ending, no credit rolls and no trophy for completing the game.
Has anyone else had this problem?

....And then SMT4:A clarified that the 'Great Will' here didn't actually refer to *the* Great Will, but that ever reappearing jackass, YHWH.... who was 'supposed' to be an avatar of the Great Will, or Axiom, or whatever... but apparently rebelled.

@@jackour8167 different universes, different Lucifer. Demi-Fiend only comes to the SMT V universe to fight Nahobino, he never meets the YHVH of that world because Lucifer outright says he did the deed himself.
@@bubalackgaming8892 A year too late. Also, that wouldn't make sense. Demons can't permanently kill each other. Only someone with observation can. Given Demi-fiend is the only one under Lucifer's management that has observation, it would make sense if he's the one who did it. Lucifer saying it he did doesn't mean a lot. Kings alway announce that they won the war even tho they don't do shit most of the time. If Lucifer was the one who did it, then that means that Yhvh would return, but he clearly isn't returning.
Edit : Also no, it's not different universes. There are way too many connections.

I decided to look up this ending since lucifer kept getting lucky crits and wiping my party out after getting em to half heath..
Im not ashamed i just dont have the mental fortitude to retry a 5th time...four is enough specially for two tedious boss fights.
Maskados magatama + Freikugel + Pierce + a similar ability on Raidou/Dante + demons with debilitate and buffs and when all else fails, put on easy mode.
I'm playing or rather played The original Ps2 international version. Not sure if i did any requirements and unlocked the Bandou optional dungeon it was my first run.

Canonically it is, because this is what leads to SMT V
So after maybe 10yrs of playing this game on and off I finally completed Lucifer's and got this True Demon ending. I mainly went for this ending as it seemed like the best way to get a 100% in the demon compendium on my first play.
Tbh I found the ending a bit unsettling and underwhelming. This is the only mainline SMT game (completed DDS and Raidou SA) I've completed so I have nothing to compare it to. To me it just felt like Demi-fiend becomes a general for Lucifer. Or is that a naive take of the ending? Either way I'm very in the lore of this series so now to take on 4&5!
Also the voice acting is amazing! It really adds something to the game that was definitely missing in the PS2 version!
Demi-fiend is referred to as the King of Chaos in later games. So it's pretty much implied he took Lucifer's position.
Demi-Fiend replaces Lucifer, effectively transferring the curse from Lucifer to the Demi-fiend. The Demi-Fiend is referred to as an empty vessel with no reasoning or partiality tainting him at the very beginning of the game. The Demifiend is Lucifer's long game to replace gods curse onto the demifiend so that Lucifer can finally be free. And is then later referred to as the King of Chaos directly in SMT5 if you have the DLC.
Kind of same. Smt3 was my first smt game & i finally finished it with TDE after being on and off since Dec 2021. Lucifer really kicked my ass at the end

Most evil Chaos ending in SMT, by far. It's like Chaos mixed with the White Ending. I wish you could fight and kill Lucifer as the final boss in the Freedom Ending.

Even in freedom ending, Lucifer is totally your ally. That's why he said to keep your power for the law and Great Will will really hunt you even if you think all is peacef. Remember, the concept of conception and kagutsuchi is world must be restart totally based on one idea, not reverted back. Lucifer also fonds of now true law so freedom ending is basically "chaos" ending

You have to clear the labyrinth of amala (this locks you into the true demon ending) before you can even get the last 2 magatama. If you enter the last dungeon before clearing the Labyrinth you will not be able to get TDE.
And what happened next?
Either Demi's failed or triumph againts The Great Will, it left unknown so his Fate can be debateable.
SMT4:A implied that the "great will" wasn't the will everyone thought lucifer was talking about.
It was YHVH. Implying that metatron appeared in the game posing as God's right hand (YHVH).
In the smt 5 trailer. True form lucifer says *the God you worship is dead*
Demi fiend DID tear apart YHVH.
Also he's a messiah. And messiahs are INFINITELY more powerful than ANY avatar the will of the Axiom has.
In other words. The Axiom settled this before it even started.

For some reason when i got the true demon ending the game went to complete black and now i can't do anything. Does anyone know why?

Being honest, I hate this ending, Compared with the other main line games, Demifiend practically gets on heaven in comparison and he yet chooses to kill and destroy the world, like, I can see Flynn, Aleph and the prot. of SJ going in their way to incinerate his childish ass if they somehow get in the place of Raidou

The second game was aganist the Arkangels and He were only human, Imagine him if he gets magic as well (demon whisper)
His fight was aganist YHVH without the power of the understanding and you can Fight Satan
Strange Journey battle is litterally aganist a being that can Kill worlds in seconds and Creator beings that can errase shit in seconds and cast things on Megidolaon level aganist him.
(He becomes doom guy in his true ending)
In the 4th game you fight aganist a diferent but equally powerfull version of Lucifer and also a WAYYYYYY more powerful version of the 4 Arkangels merged toghether with a human being.
Also he fights the strongest demon of Tokyo and goes to 3 versions of absolute hell and came backe with his own power.
They can just beat his wormy a$$ if they want to with a simple Moan Bullet, Antichion, or a Very powerfull gun and sword.
And all of them have REAL COMBAT EXPERIENCE (military or weapon mastery)
Demi-fiend is massively more than powerful than Aleph and Flynn. Raidou makes it a fight but he loses too.
1. Kagutsuchi >Yhvh. Yhvh as shown in SMT2 can't even destroy a planet. Kagutsuchi is a universal destroyer and creator. He's massively more powerful than Yhvh. ANY version of Yhvh, infact.
2. Demi-fiend can actual combat experience too. He's pretty much a martial artist since he fights with his bare hands and uses energy blades too.
1. Demi fiend would completely assfuck flynn
2. Aleph is a top tier in the verse but he lacks magic which is a extreme weakness
3. Haven't played strange journey yet

@@iceclkeyheart3060 Lucifer ultimately let's you choose either way and doesn't care much. But Freedom ending, he praises you for going against the God of creation, reminding him of his own days going against God. TDE self explanatory.
