Love these time travel videos. ..the fun black & white credits, seeing Bob when he was still healthy, the humorous banter among the three of you. And it's nice to see the updated info after returning to the PRESENT.😂😆
Trying this and feeling the difference. It’s funny to have to slow my pace- I’m a rapid heel striker. Hoping to get this down by spring. Thanks as always!
Your information is very helpful. I have been trying different techniques in walking at 67 years old and your demonstrations are what I needed to elevate to the next level.
Bob! This is so timely for me! I’m 68 and was starting to notice my walking. I proceeded to do a lot opposite of what you pointed out. Yikes! Thank you for setting me straight before I made things worse!! Thanks guys!
Perfect timing. I’m coming out of a walking boot first plantar fasciitis that I let go too long. Then peroneal tendinitis that lead to a double stress fracture.
Incorrect walking can also result in knee pain I beleive. After starting a workout routine for my legs and knees at a gym some 6 weeks ago, I find that I have less knee pain. The gym I go to has 6 machines to strenghten the leg, hips, gults muscles. All the physical theary I have going through over the last couple of years for balance and knee pain, doesn't even close close to the strenght I have achieved in my legs and knees and the lessening of pain by use of these machines on 2 days per week. I really enjoy your video's and that have helped me immensily.
Perfect timing! Thank you. Here is my bit. Check heel to toe drop in your shoe. Anything MORE than 4-5 mm of drop really hurts my knees. I accidentally bought 10 mm heel to toe drop shoes. After one hour walking in my new shoes, my knees were hurting crazy. I rested for 3 days, iced my knees etc. they calmed down. I put the new shoes back on and the knee pain was back! I never knew that this type of shoes promote the heel strike, and therefore knee have to absorb the stress. Obviously not everybody have weak knees but it sure is not good for people who do. and I’m assuming for anyone on the long-term.
Yes! I had something similar. Bought these sneakers with big, high foamy soles. It actually made me almost fall backward the first few days because my heels were sinking into the foam. It also made it impossible for me to walk forefoot first. I don't like to strike down my heels, but these shoes kinda force me to and with their o so soft foamy big soles, so it wasn't that bad!.. or so I thought.. I bought them to excersice more and safely, I ended up with exciting new pains, rarely felt before, instead. I guess uh...I should really look for new shoes
I've been walking this way for a couple of years, but for me, I prefer to lean back very slightly. I also add a slight posterior pelvic tilt. Everything is comfortably locked in for a smooth, powerful walk.
What helps me a lot to land softer on the front stepping foot, is to really go end the push with the back foot in a strong ''tippie toe'' position. This then elevates (neutralizes) my weight temporarily as i step with the front foot. If i do this sufficiently even the heelstrike feels fine. It took 2 years to really get used to it though (barefeet shoes help to let you know if your technique is good, or chuck taylors and then take the insoles off)
That one time I walked off the balcony of my second floor suite didn't work out as planned after the sliding glass doors locked behind me soon after I had moved in there by myself didn't work out as planned when I tried to take both feet off that floor while still hanging onto the rails with my arms. Then I had no choice when having to choose landing on the ground around 3 feet below my feet one leg at a time starting with my best leg while not caring if someone was going to dock me any points for being so amateur when it comes to being an accidental gymnast at the time. Just one of the very foolish things I did when young. My feet and knees felt okay. I think.
This video is not very clear about what way to adopt for walking and how to correct one’s established way. Please make another video making it clear with firm directions
... I'm in rehab now (broke my femur just under hip joint). The therapist here said no, walk heel first. 'Course had to remind him I had polio &affected leg was one I broke
Can you do a vid about bursitis in the foot? I have 3 very irate bursas in my left foot causing pain & severe tingling in my toes. So much so that I lift my toes so they don’t touch down. Yes, I have a podiatrist, just saw him 4 days ago, looking at possible surgery if the injections don’t kick in. In the meantime how to do walk without creating havoc elsewhere? You guys are the best! Thanks!
This is difficult for those of us who are chest heavy. Without reduction surgey, which isnt an option, thats not going to change. How do we compensate? Im just stumbling in a forward motion.
"Walking and Falling" -Laurie Anderson ruclips.net/video/gxeK-KYvibc/видео.html You're walking And you don't always realize it But you're always falling With each step, you fall forward slightly And then catch yourself from falling Over and over, you're falling And then catching yourself from falling And this is how you can be walking and falling At the same time
AT least this one shows the walking but not for long enough. I'd like to see a complete walk done this way, surely it just looks weird, like an old person shuffling along!
Barefoot or socks and Hands on Glutes to feel the activation. Than practice for five minutes or so daily and ease into making it a habit. Be patient with yourself and you will see results.
Walk barefoot for a mile around a track. You'll know how to walk and run perfectly if you listen to your feet. If you're in pain, you're doing it wrong.
Thank for making this video. I had watched your past video and have been working on my gait. Then bought Birkenstocks for the first time this past summer and they seem to help my gait as well. I now have much less hip pain when walking, as long as I concentrate on engaging my glutes. I would love to hear your thoughts on Birkenstocks and their insoles for other footwear. They are much more affordable for me than orthotics. Thank you!
it is not an order. these guys would never want us to force our bodies to do something it cannot do. existing pnysical limitations negate some suggestions. Best wishes as you choose to do what is best for you. A perfect example of knowing your own body!!
As physical therapists with a wide reach, you’re sort of obligated to spread good information. Not whatever this is. Foot drop is well understood to increase fall risk and The gait cycle starts with heel strike for a reason… I’ll be seeing your patients after they trip, fall, break something, and end up in inpatient rehab (or dead)
Youi are so wrong it's criminal. You ought to be ashamed of yourselves. Striking with your heel while running protects you from breaking your leg, all the force istransferred up your leg. Yes, higgh impact exercise (running) is bad for your joints. So DON"T RUN!!!!!!!! Don't do high impact exercose, do a low impact exercise instead of retraining your entire body to run unnaturally for no good reason!!!! Low impact aerobics. OMG

What a wonderful idea to show the older clips with Bob! Please more of those!!
ye but dont overdo

Love the line “and the knee surgeon smiles”
I always appreciate these videos you guys post. Always something I learn and I am able to correct what I do wrong.
Nice to see Bob.
What a trio!

Another great video. Love the humor and interaction between you three.
I enjoyed this video. I’m going to work on walking better.
Perfect timing. I’m coming out of a walking boot first plantar fasciitis that I let go too long. Then peroneal tendinitis that lead to a double stress fracture.
Boot first means heel first??
Hi Bob!!! Looking good.
Great sound effects Brad. lol
Love the Bewitched reference! I knew I recognised the name from somewhere 😅

@@ScribblemouseScribbles yes. I am researching now as well. Will try Altra. Zero drop.
How do you measure this???
@ description for the shoes should say: heel to toe …mm.

Hi Bob!!! Wishing you the best! ❤
Can you do a video on using rebounders? Who should avoid those?
What are your thoughts on "barefoot shoes"?
Yay another upload!
Very useful info!
This really helps my IT band❤
I’m in my mid 40s and just learned I’ve been walking incorrectly my whole life 😂🤯 No wonder I have so many foot/knee/hip problems 😮
I also find it helpful to move the hips while walking.
Thank you

Thank you💕. Egypt
Ive never met a competent physical therapist
How great to see Bob in these vintage videos! Would like to see more of these!!
Great, thanks for the feedback!
zero-drop helps, as its shorter strides so less impact/shock with each step.

Brad should really release his own signature brand of pants. They are famous
Sounds like the young guy never saw the movie: the movie clearly refers to the present day as *the future*.
So, Bob-and-Brad are right again!
I think I've inherently been a midfoot walker due to having tense legs and ankles. I didn't even think that would be a helpful thing in the long run.
I used to walk toe to heel, and I was told this was a wrong way of doing it.
I really need to correct my way of walking. Each stride lands on my heel, and I feel pain in my hips.
If you could not go to natural settings, you can walk in a park which resembles a forest setting of you're lucky to have one in your city
This is difficult for those of us who are chest heavy. Without reduction surgey, which isnt an option, thats not going to change. How do we compensate? Im just stumbling in a forward motion.
My autism walk was right the whole time, and now i need to relearn it? Dude, i hate life.
Same thing with my son!!
"Walking and Falling" -Laurie Anderson

You're walking
And you don't always realize it
But you're always falling
With each step, you fall forward slightly
And then catch yourself from falling
Over and over, you're falling
And then catching yourself from falling
And this is how you can be walking and falling
At the same time

I walk this way due to drop foot. But my toes drag and i may stumble. It's awkward.
"Abner!"
So I've been walking WRONG my whole life. That explains a lot.
What did they study?
❤❤❤
I can't walk flat footed. Heel first is more stable and a softer landing.
And I learnt that the rolling heel to toe action is important for circulation. Search for Plantar pump...

Marching Band taught us 44 years ago heel-toe Ruined for life 😂
Very sad I have a torn meniscus and was told by one of my PT’s to walk heal toe 😢😫
Walking backwards helps the knees 🙂
It's a great strengthening exercise as well!
@@BobandBrad 👍🏼🙂
How about Mike's name gets on signs and in songs too.
lebron james did a video on AARP and he said heel first…
Terrible idea. Too easy to trip and fall. Especially for older folks with poor reaction time to correct their balance. If you have neuropathy ?

Mike is over-pronating.
This is why ppl thud around! They’re pounding heels down 1st
I make very little noise walking on a bare floor and I’m obese 😆
Lose of a time, really
Too much fluff format and production.
Make this 2 minutes. 11 minutes is just too much.
@bonsummers2657 unlike you, there are people out there, who don't have the attention span of an orange. 🍊
11 minutes is totally fine. 👍
