I want to purchase this model. I still would buy this model even though the parts upgrades would not work. RedCat is offering a model that most can afford. Due to the other models are over priced. The RedCat offer a nice model at an affordable price. Thanks for the video.

I don’t think that other trucks are necessarily overpriced, but I do think that the Redcat has a lot to offer. Sure you can get an SCX10 for a little more, but it has its own list of "needs". Metal links, servo, etc. The Redcat isn't perfect, but I think it's going to being a lot of new people into the hobby, and that's always a good thing.
MM Masterscross I think you need to consider the overall cost and running cost of purchasing a Redcat. A few minor upgrades Wheels tires scale accessories whatever it might be if you're truly looking for performance and aftermarket you can't beat in axial rig or RC 4 wheel drive although they are even more expensive
I agree that none of these parts are a direct bolt-on swap, but you really missed the mark in the sense that most of these parts can be adapted with very minor changes. Those c-hubs will go on once you trim the mounting point and slot the hole a little bit. The CVDs should work if you swap over to an Axial cross locker (which will fit into the plastic Sport housing with minimal work). SCX-10 driveshafts should work fine. The SCX-10 transmission will work if you slot 2 holes. Is this stuff a "direct" fit? No. Can it be adapted in 5 minutes with basic hand tools? Yes.
+Budget RC I have the tools to make anything work, but it says more about a company who says their truck is compatible with these parts and isn’t even close to correct. I didn’t buy this truck, they sent it with the specific instructions that it would fit these parts. I’d buy a Deadbolt for $275 in a heartbeat over this truck.
Harley Designs I didn't realize it was Redcat claiming parts compatibility, I thought it was your typical "DIY" viewer base that turned you on to it. For Redcat to claim compatibility, it certainly should be a simple bolt on or they shouldn't make such claims. That said, on my Gen7 Sport upgrades, I'm under $300 all-in with a truck that I think is certainly a Deadbolt peer, if not beyond. There's still a lot that you can do to this truck for very little money.
(About deadbolt vs GEN7 argument): For competition i would too, but god is it UGLY. For scale runs with my friends where we take pictures of the flex and such i can't bring myself to dislike the GEN7 Pro. Most of the guys i run with have scx10, scx10.2 and ascenders. They all have sunk a butt load of money buying scale accessories plus their trucks cost more from the start. I completly agree on the points you made though, and those are the areas i'm gonna start with as far as upgrades go if/when they break. Hey if you ever wanna give those away, i would gladly pay for shipping to Canada to get them off your hands :D
Budget RC I agree with you. Most parts that don’t fit will if you tweak them up a bit. That’s the fun part of this hobby. Get a rig build it to your needs and go rip up the trails, break and repair and do it all over again. Happy Trails.
For a competition type guy, yes.. this is all true. But there's a huge portion of guys who just want a backyard/trail rig and may never break a single part. It has a place in their collection for under $300. I won't be getting one however.
I think it's $200.00 to $280.00 leave it a lone and tinker with it a little bit,, I did a lot of tweaks to mine leaving it stock and it works way better now. Also I know of a guy who put full metal gears in the center gearbox it can be done very easy.
I just ordered the green one like you reviewed and can’t wait for it to come, just watching more videos until then. I am retired, not every one wants something for a race course or hill climb, I just want something for the back yard as I am not one to Sit in front of a TV all day.... The Gen7 Pro is a very good rig. I’ve upgraded the tranny gears to metal. Replaced the cheap plastic bumpers with metal ones. I purchased the rig by watching RUclips videos. Did the upgrades that needed it and basically haven’t had any real issues that would stray me away from this rig.
I bought the Pro version and I really like it. I made some minor changes; increased steering angle, swapped the heavy stuff on top for lighter stuff. I really could care less about the Axial parts fitting it, this truck is built stout enough I seriously doubt you'd be tearing it up unless you went nuts with power. Why would you, it has good power now. BTW, I own the TRX4, AXIAL Wraith, Yeti XL and SCX10 2, Losi Rock Rey, Vaterra Ascender p/u, need I go on? It's just another RC to explore, I am actually more interested in this than the HPI Venture.
Good info text. I really like the complete axle assy. On the Axial and the TRX4. Would love to buy the new upgraded ones. But will the fit the Redcat Gen 7 Pro. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Craig
Also you can swap the scx10 knuckles for better steering. Also if you want a scx10 then get a scx10 if you want a Redcat Everest gen7 PRO then get a gen7 PRO there all good 4x4.
Mine came with an optional body post kit if you want it. The Velcro however works fine as is and the body posts sit in the plastic bag to date. It’s a decent truck out of the box and can take quite a bit of abuse.
You said there's no option for a body post instead of Velcro? Ummm. BS. It comes with body posts that you can replace the velcro pad with... wtf are you talking about?
It definitely has its drawbacks, and I will not be one to say it competes with some of the bigger brands for technical crawling. Fortunately for me, I'm more looking for a trail truck that can handle some light to moderate crawls. I do see an awful lot of people say that for the money, you get a lot and you get in the game. I'm not going to spend Traxxas money, all the more power to those who do. I strongly considered buying the TRX4 Tactical, but I'm going to get a Gen7 Pro instead. Is the Traxxas nicer, better, more respected? You bet. But the thing I see time after time in trail and crawling videos with the Gen 7s is the operators having FUN. That's what I want. And I'll save money. No disrespect to Traxxas or any other brand intended.
Seams like ur really dragging on the thing obviously we all have are own opinions but at the price point u can not deny that it is very impressive also to my knowledge no other 1/10 scale rtr has come with the type of chassis that this dose out of the box the adjustment for links and shocks is much nicer than the c channel chassis u see on the accender and scx10 ect with plastic shock mounts these are selling for 280 bucks rtr u won't find a rtr axial product for less that 400 brand new out of the box also for that 400 bucks rtr axial there is no battery or charger included many of us never even touch the nimh stuff anymore but if that's all you got it will get u out and running maybe not for long till u need to recharge but it's still runtime fun time Don't get me wrong here but it just seems like u really honed in on all the cons of the truck and didn't note any of the pros Some guys don't have thousands of dollars to throw at the expensive rigs Like I said don't get me wrong iv had many axial and vaterra ect. products and they are awesome quality products.
+mitchell welch a new Deadbolt sells for $275 right now and is s better buy. All the link mounting positions are fine and all but not really needed. A C-channel is more scale and the reason you see it done. This was done to save money. If they would have had more parts compatibility I could have seen more value in it.
For the gen7 you can use upgrades in aluminum from MxFans, Axspeed or Xtra speed for the axial scx10 with little modification work very well.Thanks for RUclips channel.
They have tons of upgrades for it now on rescata website like- aluminum axles, steering upgrade, and many more, go check it out. I ordered the gen7 sport, and it's coming in this Tuesday.
I just picked up a chassis for 35$, currently sourcing second hand parts to put it together. I think I’m going to use any element transmission with 12% OD up from. I have a gen7 transmission also. Looking forward to the build. This will be a trail truck for my daughter!
I love my Gen 7sport, I've beat the crap out of mine and nothing has broken yet, the steel trans gears I bought for it are still in my tool box, I haven't been able to strip or brake the stock plastic ones yet, in fact nothing broke on the truck yet, for only 199 bucks I could be happier with it, my scx is sitting on the shelf, when we go crawling I lend the scx out and drive the Gen, its a grate truck for me 👍
I like the velcro myself but then again i doubled the width of the velcro pad to make it stick better and i usually don't let the truck fall off a cliff, i tend to use my "hand of god" to prevent such a thing :D Thanks for doing the review and testing out axial parts on it, it's a bummer they told you they would fit and they don't !
The Gen7 is basically a re-hashed HPI Maverick Scout which is also sold under the HSP banner and there are a huge amount of HSP aluminium upgrades that specifically fit these axles. Just search HSP 1/10 crawler on ebay and many parts pop up
Harley, mine was one of the ones you saw at Crawl4aCure, and yes, the body did pop up in the front several times, and the foams broke down completely by around gate 150. After we got it home, I changed out the foams to some 2 stage Pro lines, replaced the velcro, and took it to lake amador last weekend with some other locals. The foams made a HUGE difference in the grip. the tires still aren't awesome, but they are remarkably good for an RTR. They also helped the steering from pushing so much since they weren't folding over any more. The aluminum shocks on the Pro seem to be much better than the stock axial scx10 shocks as well. Does it compare? to a stock scx10, yes, but It didn't perform as well as the Venture or scx10II rigs that we ran with. the frame is a standard (70mm?) width, so bumpers will fit, but I think that's about it, other than the standard universal pieces like links, battery trays, cms mounts, etc... Will it replace my other rigs? no, I bought it for my son to learn with, but after he won the pink rig at C4AC, the Redcat will be a backup rig that will eventually get some attention with a few parts added here and there.
I bought the gen 7 I installed portal axles transmission with slipper clutch and front and rear driveshafts aftermarket wheels and tires all bought for the axial scx2 fit with very little modification looks good works great
I received the gen7 pro for a birthday gift after my girl friend saw that I was reveing it on line. Its nice, but a few week Link's, I twisted the front drive shaft, I up graded them to a aluminum set, then broke a axle, I up graded then to the red cat portal axle so far they are holding up, I then striped the gears in the transmission, I then up graded it to a axes tran. The steering servo wore out quick with the plastic gears, I did a up grade from red cat with metal gears. The shock blow out, so I ordered a all aluminum set off line. Now my proplem is with the motor, the bearing's in it is bad and wont let me get the proper set for the gears, on my third pinon gear. Looking to up grade the motor now. Other then that with all the up grades, it's fun to play with. And the jeep Cherokee look a like body is pretty cool.
I have only two issues with mine. The u-joint pins have wallowed out the holes. Just waiting for them to fall out. The second issue is steering. Bump stops on front carriers had to be filed down so as not to hit the two screws on front of axle. Still not much steering but better than stock. Oh and a third issue, the tire foams. Too hard. Switched out tires and rims for a good set of metal beadlocks and BFG crawlers. This thing will climb no doubt. Driveshafts will be the first to go bad though.
I have an SCX10.2 that I sunk a ton of money into. Then I acquired a Gen7 with Portal Axles. Have to say, this rig honestly impressed me with it's abilities. The rig defualts to being my backup and has been used twice when other rigs went down and this thing just always seems to pull it off. Now, there are a few things you have to mod and adjust to make the rig better. But that is what makes tinytrucks so fun. Out of the box I say it performs better than the SCX10.2 RTR. For the price difference it out way out paces the SCX10.2. Don't get me wrong, I like my SCX10.2 and won't ever let it go. What I like most?? These rigs wind up in the hands of kids based on their price so they can trail with their parents. The funnest thing is the amount of pride these kids have for their creations. I often find myself comparing notes to what we have done to our rigs. They love their rigs and happy to talk shop. I love the inspiration and creativity of the younger minds... I will buy the Gen8 when it is released.
My son has this red cat for his first rc. The price points is great to get into the hobby considering it comes with battery and charger everything you need right inside the box. This is a true "ready to run". I have found good 3rd party support for skid plates, driveshafts, links, and transmissions to name a few. This was not the case when the model was first released. One downside would be the battery connectors if you're wishing to run other batteries you need to change out the connector. I enjoy the chassis because it gives you different mounting points for your links and shock to change ride height and wheelbase overall. Note this is not a high performance machine but you do get a lot in this kit... spare tire, working track ramps, battery, Etc.
A lot of people r pleased with owning this rig👍👍👊👊📹📹 I’m thinking about getting one, I do have a rgt hsp rock cruiser aka ftx outback n it’s a smaller wheelbase n now wanted a lil better crawler,me being in a wheelchair paraplegic now I can’t run the crawlers on the trails like I’d want so I was thinking scx10 2 or trx4 bronco but do I really wanna spend that much on a truck I can’t truly run?
I was definitely thinking about buying the Gen 7 Pro. The price is lower than the Axial, and Traxxas. I'm now concerned about that locked transmission. My backyard trail park has log piles, mud pits, and rock crawling piles. I would hate to get stuck on the rocks, and strip out that gear. I love R/C's, but I'm not the type of guy to be able to take them apart, fix them and put them back together again. I'd have to bring it to a hobby shop to be repaired. I have 1/18th scale, 1/16th scale, and 1/14th scale, Jeeps and trucks. I want a 1/10th scale crawler. TRX4-$550.00. SCX10III-$500.00. Gen 7 Pro-$279.00. Now I'm stuck, I don't know what to do. Soooo basically, don't buy this truck because it isn't compatible with the stupidly overpriced vanquish products that I can't sell you. If it don't help the bank account grow, I ain't done go recommend it. Nothing wrong with the truck itself, infact, it's proven to be durable as is but still, no $$$ in it for the greedy. I guess the idea of "gotta spend money to make money" died long ago.

Yes it’s a $200 Truck, and that’s what you get. Is it a bad deal, no. But not the truck I’d buy. I was just very surprised they sent it to me and asked me to show how the parts bolt on.
I just used mine today after it’s been sitting all winter and what happens the steering servo failed when I checked under the body the servo had swung all the way to the left and when I touched servo it was hot to the touch and esc was flashing red and truck would no longer move
I haven’t had any issues w mine..I’ve had it going on 7 months now the only problem I’ve had is the rear drive shaft is loose..other than that really no issues..I still have the same tires and beadlocks from factory ..tires haven’t came off the rim once...I’ll say that my rigs a lil heavy but that’s ok..as far as parts go I’m a alright fabricator and w that being said ..you have a nice day.. enjoy your Axials n your Armas no Traxxas, n Hpi,Lodi,TeamAssociated,

the thing is even if you get a axial your going to buy a set of axles and a simple axial skid plate bolts right on then use scx10 transmission and you have a comp rig without having to buy a new frame like you do for a axial plus with a $280 for the pro and 199 for the gen 7 sport it's well worth the money
+Devin Hoepner the SCX chassis doesn’t need replaced. Sure many people do it but it isn’t needed even if competing. For $275 you can get the Deadbolt right now and I think in the long run you’d be better off.
I love my rig though. I've upgraded to castle creations motor and esc with a savox 7.4 servo 2.2 mud slingers on g made beedlock wheels. And want to upgrade the axels to portal. Or soak with a smaller pumpkin. But this thing is awesome and is more then upgradeable
I had an original everest. With some modifications a hot racing aluminum locker will work but now redcat makes an aluminum upgrade. Also with a little motivation scx10 lock outs and c hubs will fit. As long as someone doesn't mind using a file, dremel or sandpaper there are some things that can be modified to except scx10 aftermarket parts
So, you're saying that I can't bolt on $500 of vanquish/incision parts? I'm pretty sure the main reason people would buy this over an axial or traxxas is the price. I drive my gen7 sport more than my scx10 ii. I was able to get the incision body clips to work tho
I bought a Gen 7 and spent more time at the work bench than on the turf. This pile of crap couldn't run through an entire batt. pac with out breaking. No joke; broken front left axle, twice, stripped front diff. twice, stripped spur, bent shock and more that I just can't remember right now. Broken axle; the truck was designed so that the dog bone cup saws through the dog bone. Front diff; the inner part of the ring gear must be made from old bubble gum. Weak is not the word to describe. Stripped spur; 48 pitch on a crawler??? Bent shock; I don't even know how that happened but I straightened with my fingers. What kind of steel are those made of? P.O.S. describes this vehicle.

This rig definitely has durability issues but I can’t deny how capable it is out of the box. Thing keeps up with my Brother’s Element RC Trailwalker through some brutal trails. I just wish it wouldn’t break so much
There are already some decent aftermarket hopups hitting for these. Should be more coming. I dont think it will reach the level of Axial aftermarket, but that will greatly depend on how many people wind up with these wanting to upgrade them.
In the market for a rig, but it wont be the red at Gen 7, Its like buying a BMW, you have to buy replacements parts just for that car, nothing else will work, Microsoft did something like that some years ago. It didn’t go well for them .. thanks for the review. Very helpful ..
The Everest 7 does have a body post option Mine came with extra posts to allow it to use body post you have to remove the velcro plate in the front,lift up the front posts it should have come with a small bag with extra posts they slide into 2 holes in the back then secures with the screws that i saw in the bag
Great review Harley. First lets talk price point, $279.95 rtr ya im sold, there is a clip style body mount that comes with the truck. Redcat has dropped multiple upgrades, metal trans gears, mounts and other hardware. Rims can be modified which resolves the issues with the inner beadlock wall where the tire sets in. Some pros: The truck comes with a what i would call an aftermarket chassis by bpc, way cool and no one has done that, that I know of. Axles have diff skid protection which will helps to not destroy plastic housings while bashing rocks. Bpc battery tray for optimizing the low weight, bpc birdcage for easy access to electronics. Tires do great once broke in however highly recommend changing foams. Over all this was one of those trucks just for me. Through many comps it hangs with all other brands in the industry. Hi Have a new Gen 7 Pro I have had on the shelf for a few months and just tried it out first time. No matter which way you turn it goes only to the left only. It starts to go right then double backs to the left . I have tried a new servo to test same thing happens. Do you thing it could be the receiver or transmitter issue?? I have also done the steering trims , steering revers switch ect ect. Im stumped on this one. Never had one do this out of the box before.

Josh I just got one today, I absolutely love it, it's cheep, pretty fast actually, and my daughter is going to have a blast. Now would I buy this for myself? I'm not sure. But I think it's a perfect truck for a 4 year old. The cool thing I think, is the bpc factor, if anything I just throw VP complete axles under it lol. I enjoyed your vid, I learned a lot about what I just got lol.
Honestly... they probably meant bumpers and shock towers. Things like that. You went for precise internal parts right away. But I can see the reason. They are breakable parts.
I did a budget build. Started with a redcat Everest ten and bought an aftermarket scx10 chassis and started swapping parts. I immediately ran into all these problems. I bought boom racing phat axle housings and integy racing knuckles and hubs and when I built them using the redcat diffs and shafts they binded up like crazy. And the gearbox 😡 I wish I knew what I know now I'll just leave it at that. By the time I got the truck in decent working order I had about 800$ into it and sold it for 300 and bought a trx4
Perhaps they meant you could use stuff like complete axles meant for the SCX10 or SCX10 II, such as the Curries, or just SCX10 axles in general. I like that it is already battery forward, and there are a few other things that are intriguing about it. Other than that, it's just so "last gen"
Having the Everest Gen7 Sport, I know that the Redcat Plastic C Hubs are Junk so I was wondering if the Axial SCX10 complete Axle would fit this? I have some HSP and Axial components coming. Very dissatisfied with the Redcat Racing Plastic Parts. Having Fun RCing Laughing and Playing ✌ 😎👍
Scx10.1 inner c and knuckles. File down the boss (or I just cut it with a knife) and use shorter screws and it will make it's own new hole. They work fine. Minimal messing around. I originally filed down the inner c to make if seat deeper but then you have bearing and shaft clearance issues. Still easy mod.
Harley Designs I totally agree. I pre ordered a pro and I would not buy one again. I tossed some stock ascender shocks on it and that helped a lot. The stock shocks don't have nearly enough travel. Especially for their overall length. Other than the steering changes and the shocks I'm leaving it alone and using it as a loaner rig for the kids.
RTR's right out of the box I have the three main the scx10 the ascender and the gen7 PRO also the TRX 4 tactical and I would take the Redcat Everest Gen7 Pro over all of them I am talking stock out of the box. Now if it comes down to upgrades of course it would be the Axial the made crawler's what it is today I still have the original scorpion and the Losi night crawler Axail will win everytime.
So, by “standard” you mean sizes that exist in your favorite trucks? There’s thousands of RC brands out there and I doubt 10% of them share the same size of anything.
Probably not the best car for a beginner IF they want to upgrade a lot as they go along. Better off there with a lower end Axial for not too much more I think. Looks like it's quite good for those who don't want to spend a lot and are willing to do some tinkering. Ironically enough it could also be useful for someone with a lot of kit who wants an inexpensive crawler in their quiver they just don't care about thrashing the bejesus out of. I say that last bit having looked at Exocaged RC's hijinks with one and there are $0 fixes for the beadlocks not holding and the limited steering range. Exo did just that I believe and stripped off all of the heavy scale bling and just beasts on it and the thing seems to hold up fine. I'm an old basher just learning to crawl now so am probably way full of crap here. Good tear-down comparison. You've saved someone out there some headaches for sure.
I'm sure traxxas will have parts support more than it already does. I'm on the fence with a scx10.2 rtr and put hardened gears in it. a venture and metal links. or a trx4 drive till I breaks. 400 venture 410 scx10.2 and 450 trx4 all nice trucks in their own way. I like the scx10.2 axles and the venture transmission and transfer case. but also the portal axles on the trx4
Excellent video, Thanks for the insights but, with the $0 cost mods that can be done (many vids on those) as y'all said "it's not the truck for me" & that's a fair statement but, others have found it to be a very capable crawler that's already proven itself. Still an excellent video that gives a guy a lot to ponder.
Yes it can be capable, since it is basically just an original SCX10 and we proved what they could do. However I say it's not for me since I'd much rather have a SCX10-2 based rig for the much improved axles. If you want something cheap it's an option.
I would really like to know what bumpers would fit on this rig other than the stock ones, I have this rig and I'm starting to dislike these bumpers. They like to get hung up on rocks a lot. If somebody could answer me that would be really appreciated!!
I trimmed the fat off my bumpers... Meaning I cut away the bottom skirt of the front bumper, turned the mounts upside down to get them higher, and tucked the bumpers by pushing them inwards for better clearance. Big difference...
+Leraydren Epps they wanted all the axle parts installed and Curries on one. It would have only worked if we basically just put 100% new axles on it. In the end, nothing they said worked out.
This was gonna be my first choice as my first scaler, but I could not find it here in Europe. So I went for the Venture instead. After seeing this I am very glad I did so. The other option I evaluated was the Carisma SCA-1E, and I'm looking forward to your review of that one too! I love your videos and your opinion in this market, thank you! Btw, I find this format of video (much shorter but as much to the point, compared with the live sessions) much more easily consumed and informative. Out of the Redcat, the MST CFX-W, THE TRAXXAS TRX, and the HPI truck, which one would you suggest for the best for your buck out the box "scale" rig?. I'm not liking the TRX, as there is to much that can go wrong. I have enough Axials, want different.
+vipxj1 as long as the HPI stays around it would be the best bang for the buck. The Traxxas is a better car but is much more complicated and expensive.
+Kambam Cradic i think if I bought one of these and then learned about all the things I just did, I would do exactly that. Swap the axles to give me a decent base. SCX axles can be found cheap.
I'm confused. Why buy this ready to use decent build to only tear it apart and attempt to change everything. Just buy the parts and put together your preferred build. At the end of the day this is only $279.00. IDK.

I want to purchase this model. I still would buy this model even though the parts upgrades would not work. RedCat is offering a model that most can afford. Due to the other models are over priced. The RedCat offer a nice model at an affordable price.

I don’t think that other trucks are necessarily overpriced, but I do think that the Redcat has a lot to offer. Sure you can get an SCX10 for a little more, but it has its own list of "needs". Metal links, servo, etc. The Redcat isn't perfect, but I think it's going to being a lot of new people into the hobby, and that's always a good thing.
MM Masterscross I think you need to consider the overall cost and running cost of purchasing a Redcat. A few minor upgrades Wheels tires scale accessories whatever it might be if you're truly looking for performance and aftermarket you can't beat in axial rig or RC 4 wheel drive although they are even more expensive
I agree that none of these parts are a direct bolt-on swap, but you really missed the mark in the sense that most of these parts can be adapted with very minor changes. Those c-hubs will go on once you trim the mounting point and slot the hole a little bit. The CVDs should work if you swap over to an Axial cross locker (which will fit into the plastic Sport housing with minimal work). SCX-10 driveshafts should work fine. The SCX-10 transmission will work if you slot 2 holes. Is this stuff a "direct" fit? No. Can it be adapted in 5 minutes with basic hand tools? Yes.
Budget RC I completely agree.. I have all metal gear trans now with stock redcat transmission case... 😎

I didn’t buy this truck, they sent it with the specific instructions that it would fit these parts. I’d buy a Deadbolt for $275 in a heartbeat over this truck.
Harley Designs I didn't realize it was Redcat claiming parts compatibility, I thought it was your typical "DIY" viewer base that turned you on to it. For Redcat to claim compatibility, it certainly should be a simple bolt on or they shouldn't make such claims. That said, on my Gen7 Sport upgrades, I'm under $300 all-in with a truck that I think is certainly a Deadbolt peer, if not beyond. There's still a lot that you can do to this truck for very little money.
(About deadbolt vs GEN7 argument):
For competition i would too, but god is it UGLY. For scale runs with my friends where we take pictures of the flex and such i can't bring myself to dislike the GEN7 Pro. Most of the guys i run with have scx10, scx10.2 and ascenders. They all have sunk a butt load of money buying scale accessories plus their trucks cost more from the start.
I completly agree on the points you made though, and those are the areas i'm gonna start with as far as upgrades go if/when they break.

Budget RC I agree with you. Most parts that don’t fit will if you tweak them up a bit. That’s the fun part of this hobby. Get a rig build it to your needs and go rip up the trails, break and repair and do it all over again. Happy Trails.
For a competition type guy, yes.. this is all true.
But there's a huge portion of guys who just want a backyard/trail rig and may never break a single part. It has a place in their collection for under $300.

and actually they did jump on it. Countless parts available, so it actually turned out good for us.
I think it's $200.00 to $280.00 leave it a lone and tinker with it a little bit,, I did a lot of tweaks to mine leaving it stock and it works way better now. Also I know of a guy who put full metal gears in the center gearbox it can be done very easy.

The Gen7 Pro is a very good rig. I’ve upgraded the tranny gears to metal. Replaced the cheap plastic bumpers with metal ones. I purchased the rig by watching RUclips videos. Did the upgrades that needed it and basically haven’t had any real issues that would stray me away from this rig.
I bought the Pro version and I really like it. I made some minor changes; increased steering angle, swapped the heavy stuff on top for lighter stuff. I really could care less about the Axial parts fitting it, this truck is built stout enough I seriously doubt you'd be tearing it up unless you went nuts with power. Why would you, it has good power now.
BTW, I own the TRX4, AXIAL Wraith, Yeti XL and SCX10 2, Losi Rock Rey, Vaterra Ascender p/u, need I go on? It's just another RC to explore, I am actually more interested in this than the HPI Venture.

What suspension links fit on the redcat gen7 trying to see if scx10 would work lmk or gen8
Also you can swap the scx10 knuckles for better steering. Also if you want a scx10 then get a scx10 if you want a Redcat Everest gen7 PRO then get a gen7 PRO there all good 4x4.
Mine came with an optional body post kit if you want it. The Velcro however works fine as is and the body posts sit in the plastic bag to date. It’s a decent truck out of the box and can take quite a bit of abuse.
I wanted to mention there are 8x15mm bearings that could be used in that transmission. I have a drawer full of them.

It definitely has its drawbacks, and I will not be one to say it competes with some of the bigger brands for technical crawling. Fortunately for me, I'm more looking for a trail truck that can handle some light to moderate crawls. I do see an awful lot of people say that for the money, you get a lot and you get in the game. I'm not going to spend Traxxas money, all the more power to those who do. I strongly considered buying the TRX4 Tactical, but I'm going to get a Gen7 Pro instead. Is the Traxxas nicer, better, more respected? You bet. But the thing I see time after time in trail and crawling videos with the Gen 7s is the operators having FUN. That's what I want. And I'll save money. No disrespect to Traxxas or any other brand intended.

Seams like ur really dragging on the thing obviously we all have are own opinions but at the price point u can not deny that it is very impressive also to my knowledge no other 1/10 scale rtr has come with the type of chassis that this dose out of the box the adjustment for links and shocks is much nicer than the c channel chassis u see on the accender and scx10 ect with plastic shock mounts
these are selling for 280 bucks rtr u won't find a rtr axial product for less that 400 brand new out of the box also for that 400 bucks rtr axial there is no battery or charger included many of us never even touch the nimh stuff anymore but if that's all you got it will get u out and running maybe not for long till u need to recharge but it's still runtime fun time

+mitchell welch a new Deadbolt sells for $275 right now and is s better buy. All the link mounting positions are fine and all but not really needed. A C-channel is more scale and the reason you see it done. This was done to save money. If they would have had more parts compatibility I could have seen more value in it.

For the gen7 you can use upgrades in aluminum from MxFans, Axspeed or Xtra speed for the axial scx10 with little modification work very well.Thanks for RUclips channel.
They have tons of upgrades for it now on rescata website like- aluminum axles, steering upgrade, and many more, go check it out. I ordered the gen7 sport, and it's coming in this Tuesday.

I just picked up a chassis for 35$, currently sourcing second hand parts to put it together. I think I’m going to use any element transmission with 12% OD up from. I have a gen7 transmission also. Looking forward to the build. This will be a trail truck for my daughter!
I love my Gen 7sport, I've beat the crap out of mine and nothing has broken yet, the steel trans gears I bought for it are still in my tool box, I haven't been able to strip or brake the stock plastic ones yet, in fact nothing broke on the truck yet, for only 199 bucks I could be happier with it, my scx is sitting on the shelf, when we go crawling I lend the scx out and drive the Gen, its a grate truck for me 👍

I like the velcro myself but then again i doubled the width of the velcro pad to make it stick better and i usually don't let the truck fall off a cliff, i tend to use my "hand of god" to prevent such a thing :D

The Gen7 is basically a re-hashed HPI Maverick Scout which is also sold under the HSP banner and there are a huge amount of HSP aluminium upgrades that specifically fit these axles. Just search HSP 1/10 crawler on ebay and many parts pop up
Harley, mine was one of the ones you saw at Crawl4aCure, and yes, the body did pop up in the front several times, and the foams broke down completely by around gate 150. After we got it home, I changed out the foams to some 2 stage Pro lines, replaced the velcro, and took it to lake amador last weekend with some other locals. The foams made a HUGE difference in the grip. the tires still aren't awesome, but they are remarkably good for an RTR. They also helped the steering from pushing so much since they weren't folding over any more. The aluminum shocks on the Pro seem to be much better than the stock axial scx10 shocks as well. Does it compare? to a stock scx10, yes, but It didn't perform as well as the Venture or scx10II rigs that we ran with. the frame is a standard (70mm?) width, so bumpers will fit, but I think that's about it, other than the standard universal pieces like links, battery trays, cms mounts, etc... Will it replace my other rigs? no, I bought it for my son to learn with, but after he won the pink rig at C4AC, the Redcat will be a backup rig that will eventually get some attention with a few parts added here and there.
Why not just buy the red cat high steer kit and aluminum knuckles which by the by are much much cheaper than the axial parts.

I bought the gen 7 I installed portal axles transmission with slipper clutch and front and rear driveshafts aftermarket wheels and tires all bought for the axial scx2 fit with very little modification looks good works great
I received the gen7 pro for a birthday gift after my girl friend saw that I was reveing it on line. Its nice, but a few week Link's, I twisted the front drive shaft, I up graded them to a aluminum set, then broke a axle, I up graded then to the red cat portal axle so far they are holding up, I then striped the gears in the transmission, I then up graded it to a axes tran. The steering servo wore out quick with the plastic gears, I did a up grade from red cat with metal gears. The shock blow out, so I ordered a all aluminum set off line. Now my proplem is with the motor, the bearing's in it is bad and wont let me get the proper set for the gears, on my third pinon gear. Looking to up grade the motor now. Other then that with all the up grades, it's fun to play with. And the jeep Cherokee look a like body is pretty cool.
I have only two issues with mine. The u-joint pins have wallowed out the holes. Just waiting for them to fall out. The second issue is steering. Bump stops on front carriers had to be filed down so as not to hit the two screws on front of axle. Still not much steering but better than stock. Oh and a third issue, the tire foams. Too hard. Switched out tires and rims for a good set of metal beadlocks and BFG crawlers. This thing will climb no doubt. Driveshafts will be the first to go bad though.
I have an SCX10.2 that I sunk a ton of money into. Then I acquired a Gen7 with Portal Axles. Have to say, this rig honestly impressed me with it's abilities. The rig defualts to being my backup and has been used twice when other rigs went down and this thing just always seems to pull it off. Now, there are a few things you have to mod and adjust to make the rig better. But that is what makes tinytrucks so fun.
Out of the box I say it performs better than the SCX10.2 RTR. For the price difference it out way out paces the SCX10.2.
Don't get me wrong, I like my SCX10.2 and won't ever let it go.
What I like most?? These rigs wind up in the hands of kids based on their price so they can trail with their parents. The funnest thing is the amount of pride these kids have for their creations. I often find myself comparing notes to what we have done to our rigs. They love their rigs and happy to talk shop. I love the inspiration and creativity of the younger minds...
I will buy the Gen8 when it is released.
My son has this red cat for his first rc. The price points is great to get into the hobby considering it comes with battery and charger everything you need right inside the box. This is a true "ready to run". I have found good 3rd party support for skid plates, driveshafts, links, and transmissions to name a few. This was not the case when the model was first released. One downside would be the battery connectors if you're wishing to run other batteries you need to change out the connector. I enjoy the chassis because it gives you different mounting points for your links and shock to change ride height and wheelbase overall. Note this is not a high performance machine but you do get a lot in this kit... spare tire, working track ramps, battery, Etc.

A lot of people r pleased with owning this rig👍👍👊👊📹📹 I’m thinking about getting one, I do have a rgt hsp rock cruiser aka ftx outback n it’s a smaller wheelbase n now wanted a lil better crawler,me being in a wheelchair paraplegic now I can’t run the crawlers on the trails like I’d want so I was thinking scx10 2 or trx4 bronco but do I really wanna spend that much on a truck I can’t truly run?
I just want to replace the whole axle set up to a steel axle an steel shafts but I haven’t see a video of this anyplace. Guess I will make one
I was definitely thinking about buying the Gen 7 Pro. The price is lower than the Axial, and Traxxas. I'm now concerned about that locked transmission. My backyard trail park has log piles, mud pits, and rock crawling piles. I would hate to get stuck on the rocks, and strip out that gear. I love R/C's, but I'm not the type of guy to be able to take them apart, fix them and put them back together again. I'd have to bring it to a hobby shop to be repaired. I have 1/18th scale, 1/16th scale, and 1/14th scale, Jeeps and trucks. I want a 1/10th scale crawler. TRX4-$550.00.
SCX10III-$500.00. Gen 7 Pro-$279.00. Now I'm stuck, I don't know what to do. Thanks for your informative video.

Soooo basically, don't buy this truck because it isn't compatible with the stupidly overpriced vanquish products that I can't sell you. If it don't help the bank account grow, I ain't done go recommend it. Nothing wrong with the truck itself, infact, it's proven to be durable as is but still, no $$$ in it for the greedy. I guess the idea of "gotta spend money to make money" died long ago.

I just used mine today after it’s been sitting all winter and what happens the steering servo failed when I checked under the body the servo had swung all the way to the left and when I touched servo it was hot to the touch and esc was flashing red and truck would no longer move
Just got the Gen 7 pro. I love it. The turning radius knida sux but other than that i have no complaints.
I haven’t had any issues w mine..I’ve had it going on 7 months now the only problem I’ve had is the rear drive shaft is loose..other than that really no issues..I still have the same tires and beadlocks from factory ..tires haven’t came off the rim once...I’ll say that my rigs a lil heavy but that’s ok..as far as parts go I’m a alright fabricator and w that being said ..you have a nice day.. enjoy your Axials n your Armas no Traxxas, n Hpi,Lodi,TeamAssociated,

the thing is even if you get a axial your going to buy a set of axles and a simple axial skid plate bolts right on then use scx10 transmission and you have a comp rig without having to buy a new frame like you do for a axial plus with a $280 for the pro and 199 for the gen 7 sport it's well worth the money
+Devin Hoepner the SCX chassis doesn’t need replaced. Sure many people do it but it isn’t needed even if competing. For $275 you can get the Deadbolt right now and I think in the long run you’d be better off.

I love my rig though. I've upgraded to castle creations motor and esc with a savox 7.4 servo 2.2 mud slingers on g made beedlock wheels. And want to upgrade the axels to portal. Or soak with a smaller pumpkin. But this thing is awesome and is more then upgradeable

I had an original everest. With some modifications a hot racing aluminum locker will work but now redcat makes an aluminum upgrade. Also with a little motivation scx10 lock outs and c hubs will fit. As long as someone doesn't mind using a file, dremel or sandpaper there are some things that can be modified to except scx10 aftermarket parts

So, you're saying that I can't bolt on $500 of vanquish/incision parts? I'm pretty sure the main reason people would buy this over an axial or traxxas is the price. I drive my gen7 sport more than my scx10 ii. I was able to get the incision body clips to work tho
I bought a Gen 7 and spent more time at the work bench than on the turf. This pile of crap couldn't run through an entire batt. pac with out breaking. No joke; broken front left axle, twice, stripped front diff. twice, stripped spur, bent shock and more that I just can't remember right now.
Broken axle; the truck was designed so that the dog bone cup saws through the dog bone.
Front diff; the inner part of the ring gear must be made from old bubble gum. Weak is not the word to describe.
Stripped spur; 48 pitch on a crawler???
Bent shock; I don't even know how that happened but I straightened with my fingers. What kind of steel are those made of? P.O.S. describes this vehicle.

This rig definitely has durability issues but I can’t deny how capable it is out of the box. Thing keeps up with my Brother’s Element RC Trailwalker through some brutal trails. I just wish it wouldn’t break so much

There are already some decent aftermarket hopups hitting for these. Should be more coming. I dont think it will reach the level of Axial aftermarket, but that will greatly depend on how many people wind up with these wanting to upgrade them.
In the market for a rig, but it wont be the red at Gen 7, Its like buying a BMW, you have to buy replacements parts just for that car, nothing else will work, Microsoft did something like that some years ago. It didn’t go well for them .. thanks for the review. Very helpful ..
The Everest 7 does have a body post option
Mine came with extra posts to allow it to use body post you have to remove the velcro plate in the front,lift up the front posts it should have come with a small bag with extra posts they slide into 2 holes in the back then secures with the screws that i saw in the bag
Great review Harley. First lets talk price point, $279.95 rtr ya im sold, there is a clip style body mount that comes with the truck. Redcat has dropped multiple upgrades, metal trans gears, mounts and other hardware.
Rims can be modified which resolves the issues with the inner beadlock wall where the tire sets in.
Some pros:
The truck comes with a what i would call an aftermarket chassis by bpc, way cool and no one has done that, that I know of. Axles have diff skid protection which will helps to not destroy plastic housings while bashing rocks. Bpc battery tray for optimizing the low weight, bpc birdcage for easy access to electronics.
Tires do great once broke in however highly recommend changing foams. Over all this was one of those trucks just for me. Through many comps it hangs with all other brands in the industry.

Scx10.2 axles fixed my problem
Hi Have a new Gen 7 Pro I have had on the shelf for a few months and just tried it out first time. No matter which way you turn it goes only to the left only. It starts to go right then double backs to the left .
I have tried a new servo to test same thing happens. Do you thing it could be the receiver or transmitter issue?? I have also done the steering trims , steering revers switch ect ect. Im stumped on this one. Never had one do this out of the box before.
Plug the servo into the throttle channel and see if the servo acts the way it should. If it does, then you can be sure it’s the radio or receiver.
Good info-video, it has a lot of insight, but I'm not a hard core kill your RC type; just have great outdoor fun. You make an excellent list-of-points for competition folks and you have given me much to think about before I buy a crawler RC, thanks :-)
Josh I just got one today, I absolutely love it, it's cheep, pretty fast actually, and my daughter is going to have a blast. Now would I buy this for myself? I'm not sure. But I think it's a perfect truck for a 4 year old. The cool thing I think, is the bpc factor, if anything I just throw VP complete axles under it lol. I did a budget build. Started with a redcat Everest ten and bought an aftermarket scx10 chassis and started swapping parts. I immediately ran into all these problems. I bought boom racing phat axle housings and integy racing knuckles and hubs and when I built them using the redcat diffs and shafts they binded up like crazy. And the gearbox 😡 I wish I knew what I know now I'll just leave it at that. By the time I got the truck in decent working order I had about 800$ into it and sold it for 300 and bought a trx4
Why do you say there is no option for post for the Body? The sport model actually comes with post so? LOL
Perhaps they meant you could use stuff like complete axles meant for the SCX10 or SCX10 II, such as the Curries, or just SCX10 axles in general. I like that it is already battery forward, and there are a few other things that are intriguing about it. Other than that, it's just so "last gen"
Having the Everest Gen7 Sport, I know that the Redcat Plastic C Hubs are Junk so I was wondering if the Axial SCX10 complete Axle would fit this? I have some HSP and Axial components coming.

Is there any better motors than the stock gen 7 sport ?
Scx10.1 inner c and knuckles.
File down the boss (or I just cut it with a knife) and use shorter screws and it will make it's own new hole. They work fine. Minimal messing around. I originally filed down the inner c to make if seat deeper but then you have bearing and shaft clearance issues.
Still easy mod.
+Obsessive Hobbies as I showed, it can be cut to fit but still not a bolt on or properly fit. And Still not the biggest issue with the car.

I tossed some stock ascender shocks on it and that helped a lot. The stock shocks don't have nearly enough travel. Especially for their overall length.
Other than the steering changes and the shocks I'm leaving it alone and using it as a loaner rig for the kids.
RTR's right out of the box I have the three main the scx10 the ascender and the gen7 PRO also the TRX 4 tactical and I would take the Redcat Everest Gen7 Pro over all of them I am talking stock out of the box. Now if it comes down to upgrades of course it would be the Axial the made crawler's what it is today I still have the original scorpion and the Losi night crawler Axail will win everytime.

Would the Axial upgraded front and rear axle/diffs fit on the Gen7 pro? They look awesome for 90 bucks. Any thoughts anyone? Thanks
So, by “standard” you mean sizes that exist in your favorite trucks? There’s thousands of RC brands out there and I doubt 10% of them share the same size of anything.

Why would you try to upgrade it with parts from a different model car that's ridiculous. There are quite a few good upgrades available from redcat
Are the chassis rails compatible with the SCX10 v1?
Will aftermarket axles for the TRX4 or AXIAL fit the GEN7?
Seems like the vanquish c hub might work if you sand flat the inside of the c hub

I’d highly suggest going with a more modern car. The Gen 7’s are very out of date.
Probably not the best car for a beginner IF they want to upgrade a lot as they go along. Better off there with a lower end Axial for not too much more I think. Looks like it's quite good for those who don't want to spend a lot and are willing to do some tinkering. Ironically enough it could also be useful for someone with a lot of kit who wants an inexpensive crawler in their quiver they just don't care about thrashing the bejesus out of.
I say that last bit having looked at Exocaged RC's hijinks with one and there are $0 fixes for the beadlocks not holding and the limited steering range. Exo did just that I believe and stripped off all of the heavy scale bling and just beasts on it and the thing seems to hold up fine. I'm an old basher just learning to crawl now so am probably way full of crap here.

I'm sure traxxas will have parts support more than it already does. I'm on the fence with a scx10.2 rtr and put hardened gears in it. a venture and metal links. or a trx4 drive till I breaks. 400 venture 410 scx10.2 and 450 trx4 all nice trucks in their own way. I like the scx10.2 axles and the venture transmission and transfer case. but also the portal axles on the trx4
Excellent video, Thanks for the insights but, with the $0 cost mods that can be done (many vids on those) as y'all said "it's not the truck for me" & that's a fair statement but, others have found it to be a very capable crawler that's already proven itself. Still an excellent video that gives a guy a lot to ponder.
Yes it can be capable, since it is basically just an original SCX10 and we proved what they could do. However I say it's not for me since I'd much rather have a SCX10-2 based rig for the much improved axles. If you want something cheap it's an option.

I would really like to know what bumpers would fit on this rig other than the stock ones, I have this rig and I'm starting to dislike these bumpers. They like to get hung up on rocks a lot. If somebody could answer me that would be really appreciated!!
RED apple if you get a SCX mount or TRX4 mount you can run most any bumper on the market.
I trimmed the fat off my bumpers... Meaning I cut away the bottom skirt of the front bumper, turned the mounts upside down to get them higher, and tucked the bumpers by pushing them inwards for better clearance. Big difference...
Did they say or give you a list of specific parts that were compatible between both trucks?
+Leraydren Epps they wanted all the axle parts installed and Curries on one. It would have only worked if we basically just put 100% new axles on it. In the end, nothing they said worked out.
This was gonna be my first choice as my first scaler, but I could not find it here in Europe. So I went for the Venture instead.
After seeing this I am very glad I did so.
The other option I evaluated was the Carisma SCA-1E, and I'm looking forward to your review of that one too!

You went with HPI ?? God i hope you never break a part.... 97% of all their parts are back-ordered for months if not years... And if they don't sell enough you're gonna see a "discontinued" banner on it soon. Unless HPI Europe is in better shape than HPI America..
Out of the Redcat, the MST CFX-W, THE TRAXXAS TRX, and the HPI truck, which one would you suggest for the best for your buck out the box "scale" rig?.
I'm not liking the TRX, as there is to much that can go wrong. I have enough Axials, want different.
+vipxj1 as long as the HPI stays around it would be the best bang for the buck. The Traxxas is a better car but is much more complicated and expensive.

Cheers for that, what I was thinking about getting the HPI.
All I did was swap out the scx10 axles which is a direct fit it works just fine it is BPC chassis which was actually made for Axial.
+Kambam Cradic i think if I bought one of these and then learned about all the things I just did, I would do exactly that. Swap the axles to give me a decent base. SCX axles can be found cheap.
I'm confused. Why buy this ready to use decent build to only tear it apart and attempt to change everything. Just buy the parts and put together your preferred build. At the end of the day this is only $279.00. IDK.
