JMHZ2401 yeah they probably work working a bit better but the stock gen7 tires are pretty darn good too. That axial is also the project Superlite I’m working on but it was 4.5lbs in this video.
The problem with the Gen7 is the lower links are on the outside of the chassis , this limits its flex , I love my Gen7 , I have and first generation of the trail honcho with tons of mods , it's my shelf queen , when I go out with my crawling friends l take my Gen7 , my truck can go anywhere their trucks can go... 😎👍
I had the same issue with our gen7. I put the portals on and really effected my suspension travel. Luckily watching exocaged videos, I found out about 1thenth scale products. They make a nice engine mount that centers the links like an axial. The parts only 15 bucks, I highly recommend it. My Gen7 works better than ever! Give our channel a subscription, thanks!!
The stearing issue is an easy fix for less then a buck. I'll do that when mine gets here until I put the portals on. Thanks for the video buddy I needed to see that but this will be my first truck so I'm going to get the cheaper one and put everything on it that's available and then move up from there LOL
What is BEST? Dilema Redcat danchee double servo double motor, redcat Everest 10 ou redcat gen 7 sport , what is BEST suport, parts, durabilidi and performance
Let's not forget to mention that the Gen 7 new was half the price of the SCX10II. I see a lot of guys slamming the Gen 7 but it's still a very capable truck for the money, that you ran a Builder's Kit doesn't change the cost of the Axial vs the Gen 7 enough to have made it a fair comparison imho. We all know the Axial is going to outperform the Gen 7 but cost for those with limited resources make the Gen 7 a truck to seriously consider for those just getting into the hobby for example. A wicked video never the less but Gen 7 bashing is getting a bit old.
Both are great trucks. I love my gen 7 purchased brand new as an open box for $159.00 compared to the $300-370.00 axial the gen 7 IS the CLEAR WINNER both on value and on the pocketbook. Most of what you showed is based on tire selection and the driver. Not the trucks...Just my opinion. Keep up the great videos!
I have the fancier gen7, with roll cage body, fenders and such. for $250, you get some nice scale extras, a RTR truck with decent tires, a decent battery and even a 3s capable ESC. And dropping a 3s into the truck really wakes it up, making sand and other places where you need more wheel speed much easier. The stock rubber is the largest limiting factor, but the same can be said of many RTR crawlers, even ones that cost $100 more than my gen 7. I will be adding weight to the wheels, higher clearance front bumper soon. I also added a engine sound FX box, which adds some fun to the driving experience.
Nice video. Yes the axial performed better. But lets consider overall value. Axial KIT 200.00 plus dollars. Then electronics, tires, motor. All in what are you about 350.00? so upgrade the Gen 7 ESC for 42.00 to the 1080 and you have a much better truck more equal to the axial and you only spent 242.00 or less if you keep the 1040 or sell it. So dollar for dollar the GEN 7 wins in my book less out of pocket and this means more money to upgrade should you desire.
I bought my Gen 7 sport for 195 dollars with shipping one of the biggest improvements was going to wraith ripsaw tires due to the useless foam in the stock tires even with the upgrades i installed metal diff 's ,better servo and a 1080 hw esc running a Holmes Hobbies trailmaster on 3 S it is cheaper than the Pro Gen 7 would love a more capable rig on paper but for a cheap get into RC crawling fun as all get out . Keep up the great and informative videos. On another note being in Jax just wish there was a crawling park in the city.
Moto Joe I love the Gen7 for the most part. I’m about an hour or less from Jax depending on where you are and we are working on a crawler park in my back yard. With any luck it will be open in the fall. We are talking about Florida right?

Moto Joe if you want to do an axle swap go for an axial 10.2 Axle like you see here. They have a 3.75 ratio so you’ll need both the front and rear to make it work.

TrailCrawler 203 this axial would eat the gen8’s breakfast lunch and then make it buy dinner. LoL. I love the Gen8 but on pure performance, the axial wins.
Assuming I change to a cheap dual bearing motor, if I put different beadlocks (for style) and the steel transmission gears and flysky gt3c, and maybe a hobbywing 1080 would I have issues?
Exocaged RC I think I’ll do that or a stock scx 10 2 Cherokee, I’ve already saved more then my first hundred for my redcat, so only about $200 more to get the build done

Well that's a no-brainer. The Gen7 was a cheap copy of the SCX10.1 so to compare it to the greatly improved 10.2 is an easy win. Those 10.2 were really well designed. Now the old "top" Axial guy works for Redcat so maybe the Gen9 will prove a better competitor to the 10.2 and TRX4 !
Dave Racine yeah very true, what’s amazing to me is how well the gen7 continues to hold its own against others, it may not win, but it’s always right there, in some ways that’s also a win.
@@ExocagedRC I just bought a gen 7..it will be delivered to me tomorrow... At work...while I'm on overtime.. Since Thursday.. 😳... And seriously hunting for a jeep wj body to make my crawler look just like my daily. Lmao..oh yeah and your videos are torturous for me at work since I bought it. 😂
Exhausted Loughary it’s kinda odd you ask this as I’m working on getting a Proline 4-Door Jeep body on my gen7 with portal axles. Bumpers may be an issue and rear body mounts have to be raised about 3 holes. I may cut the back of it to fit a bumper of some kind and I have a printed mount to fit an axial bumper up front. Not sure if I’ll make a video on the swap or not.
@@ExocagedRC yeah that whole bumper situation seems to be an issue. If a person could 3d print a bumper that could almost look like it integrated with the side moldings, I think that would look real sharp to be honest. If the body was too short you could even make a little extension 3d printed diamond plate like the guys who run those real big almost tow truck like bumpers on the diesel pickups in the 1:1 world.
Yamaha 4Life Yes, true. But we all can see that. The outcome would change a little bit, but the Axial's overall performance would still be better. The Axial builders kit comes without wheels and all in all it's more expensive. It's up to you what you choose. No point moaning about it.
Good video as far as price and capabilities go Gen 7 does a heck of job. As far as just pure performance goes axial all the way My Gen 7 has taken some serious abuse and is really getting tired so when finances allow, I think it'll be time to move up to the axial 10.2. And that in no way diminishes the fun I've had with my Gen7. Thanks.
Gen7 lost before it actually begun, Axial kit car, better electronic and one hell of tire's. Gen7 stock all the way...not sure I understand your point of view
Dave Racine the stock brushes will die faster with 3S for sure but it’s a cheap motor. Also the stock motor is a 17t. The reason it’s slow is it’s a 550 can, so a 540 can at 21t is quite a bit faster than the 550 can 21t. I’ve run 3S on mine a lot without issue with brushes as usually the motor bushings wear out first, they start squealing really bad.
Lol Pretty much a stock Gen. 7 you're puttin up against a lightly modified axle the tires make all the difference and the esc lol axial scx10 does have the gen7 on steering And driven completely different in the video
not a good review, he drove the redcat like a 5 year old. I have both, the redcat is better. maybe not as good of body, but come on FULL THROLLTLE redcat, crawling the other. LOL

And foams.
Im curious how much difference the tires made in this. It looked to me the axial's tires were gripping better.

What type of tyres and foam did the axial have? And what size? Because they looked maybe bigger unless it’s because of the size of the Jeep body
Jayden McGrow 1.9” Duratrax Deepwoods on plastic wheels. They are 4.75” tall and I think the Redcat tires are 4.65”
Ah awesome thanks for that! Did your tyres come with foams or did you have to put your own in?
