People who say this device is not powerful enough or too expensive really miss the point... This is a niche device with no real competitor (the acer easel is the closest thing but it's much bulkier). This is a device for people that want maximum versatility and can make use of all the poses of the device as well as the pen and touch. It is a perfect decide for designers, arquitects, photographers like me, artists, engineers, etc. The price is justified by the amazing engineering thst went into it and again, by the fact that it stands alone. BTW the version with the GTX 3050 ti is more than powerful enough for everything except 6 or 8 k editing.

    • @ryerye9019
      @ryerye9019 2 года назад +5

It's not niche. Many modern laptops are just as capable (and more for that price) at those tasks. What it is, however, is a premium touch experience.

Agreed, people aren't seeing the full picture for some reason. I was looking to get either of these two variants:
      32GB RAM 1TB M1 Pro MB: $2900
      32GB RAM 1TB RTX 3050 Ti SLS: $2700
      MB Pro:
      -Way faster CPU
      -Better battery life
      -Slightly more compact
-More ports and SD card reader
      -Speakers provide better low tones
      SLS:
      -Slightly cheaper
-Slightly faster GPU (can be overclocked)
-Touch screen & versatility with modes
-Pen support for drawing and notes
      -Larger game and software library
-SSD can be upgraded (not soldered)
Did not mention the screen as an advantage for MB Pro because it suffers from motion blur brought by slow response times and severe bloom if you are not looking at the screen dead center.
So it's not as clear cut as biased fanboys want to make it out to be, SLS has some major advantages that Macbook just doesn't have (namely touch and pen support). You could get iPad Pro to use as a drawing tablet, but then you are looking at $3900 vs $2700, which makes the choice quite obvious to someone who draws.

@@loneindiedev8242 The ipad pro would be my next purchase if it wasnt for the damm ipad os. Also stuck between a mac pro and a surface studio. I MUCH prefer the fact that the surface is windows and I wont need to carry around an ipad as well, I just fear the processor wont be able to confortably handle my lightroom needs or that it will be basically trash in a few years like most windows laptops I've owned. If only Apple would release pen support on a laptop or at least make the damm Ipad pro an actual pro tool for gods sake.

The exhaust on the side is a bit annoying for mouse user, however, it's great on the lap use, because there is no vents to block on the bottom. Even using it in bed or on top of a pillow is fine too, as long as the side is not obstructed. I'm impressed with how silent the machine as well.
It's a great machine for programmer, designer and illustrator to be honest. Great keyboard and touchpad, and also comes with improved pen performance compared to previous generation (also most of MPP and AES devices). There is nothing like this in the market.
I think the best buy if you want to go all out is with $2699 SKU. Double the RAM and also as usual, the bigger SSD is also much faster, the 1TB variant have around 3400MB read and 2800MB write. That's double the write performance.

I have a Surface Book and looking at an upgrade in the near future. As much as I loved the form factor of the Surface Book, over time I converged on only using it in 2 modes 90% of the time. I either had it as a laptop, or I had the screen flipped around and folded flat to draw/write. I very rarely used the tablet as a standalone device, so this new Studio form factor looks to be the product of Microsoft observing how people were using the Surface Book. I'll say exactly the same about this thing that I've always said about the Surface Book. These laptops are for inking. They're designed specifically for pen input. If you aren't going to use the pen then don't buy them for all the reasons you said. You can get a better regular laptop for this money if you aren't even using the Surface for what it's primarily designed for. I'm an engineer, I want one device that I can do everything on, I'm who these products are geared towards, and they're brilliant at it.

Hot take: While I agree that the form factor is not that useful for the average user, I want to point out something. This device is at the top of the category for Windows devices in the following areas: the battery, the keyboard, the screen, the speakers, the trackpad, and the webcam. Friends, that's the whole dang thing. Can you think of another laptop that does that? If you don't need peak performance, this laptop is just great at being a laptop.

That heat venting thing out the side was something I found very annoying with the Asus G14 as I always used a gaming mouse for gaming and that was constantly getting hit by a blast of heat on the side of my hand. However, I didn't buy the version of this with the GPU as I only wanted it for the more tablet-friendly experience and to see how it worked for drawing and light photo touching, so I'm hoping that is not an issue for me.

Through it obviously isn’t perfect, but I’m totally satisfied. I do everything work related on it… and managing projects, taking notes, and watching content on downtime is seamless. My only ick about it is that there isn’t enough stylish protective shell cases for this device due to its numerous form factors. I’m really pumped for the next one to come out.

I used to have a tablet and an a MacBook and having one device for drawing, working and gaming is great but with problems. Battery live sucks because the dedicated GPU will always draw a bunch of power so you always need to have tge charger. And the drawing experience is different between Microsoft pen, Apple pen and the Wacom devices. I would check if she is already accustomed to any of those and the programs of course. I cant wait to see more laptops for all around visual artists but some possible deal breakers are: I really disslike the gray and black look that
typically comes with Macs and prefer white and black or black and white, it's just cleaner looking. I hate the way the magnesium/aluminum exterior feels or the texture and Magnesium is a really soft metal and is likely why it gets those micro scratches. I also hate the really hard sharp edges of Mac like laptops, they hurt my hands. I also really want something like the M1 chip in there but Microsoft. Also, why an old school headphone jack? Might as well go with USB-C as well if there's no old school USBs.

Hi, Owner of Surface Studio. Heres my usecase:
Im a pre-med student. I have a proper gaming desktop at home that i can play my complex and intensive games on. I only need it to be able to do school stuff and maybe play the occasional TFT or something really low-spec. However, i draw as a hobby and in my classes like organic chemistry, having diagrams in your notes is the difference between a A and a B. The utility of being able to just flip something and draw a chem-chain is SO useful.
This is a GREAT 2nd computer. This is not the best primary computer. If im being honest, i dont think any laptop makes a good 'only' computer. They are just clunkier than desktops are. They have a formfactor they need either for logistical or structural reasons. That form factor has nothing to do with how easy it is to use, thats more of an obstacle that needs to be overcome by the engineering team.

CPU aside, the GPU is similar in performance to M1 Pro (even beating M1 Pro in some cases). Sure, it would be nice to have faster (and especially more efficient) CPU, but what do people really use ultra fast CPUs so much for anyways? To me, GPU performance is far more important; gaming and rendering use lots of GPU power, CPU not so much.
Having the versantility and ability to draw on my laptop is something I need more than CPU speed, because it makes absolutely no difference in my day-to-day tasks.

@@eduardofreitas8336 Well it's nice to save and apply effects a bit faster, but I have my own photography business and currently edit with 2016 MB Pro with i5. 🤔 It gets the job done for me, so I don't think SLS would be slow by any means. I value touch + pen far more than CPU speed, but I do get your point.

  • @Zockshadow
    @Zockshadow 2 года назад +7

I would agree that the cpu should have at least 6 cours however, I often see that people are comparing this device to larger 15 inch laptops such as the xps 15 or laptops with different target groups such as the Macbook Pro 16. Obviously it's going to lose against a bigger laptop that has enough space for a better cpu and gpu.
If you want performance definitely go for the Macbook Pro. Its only weakness is the lack of touchscreen and pen support which makes it an easy decision for me.
If you are going to use all the SLS' features such as the 3 modes, touchscreen + pen usage and light gaming or video editing or rendering or drawing then I don't really see any competition.
Tell me if you know about a device that can exceed the SLS in those categories tho :D
