I bought the Carby recently. I didn't want to spend $150 on the EON Gamecube HDMI adapter. I also have an mClassic, so I think this will be great for my gaming setup.
I think you will like the combination. If you use a HDMI splitter, some of the cheaper ones have issues with old firmware on the CARBY. If you have troubles, I have an older video with the solution.
To me the eon looked a little sharper when looking at the ship, you could see panel outlines which I couldn’t see on the other cable. Still a really good option if you don’t wanna spend 150, though finding one at msrp is hard. Great video though!
I am not sponsored and I either buy or borrow (almost) everything reviewed here. If I like something, I say it and vice versa. In the event I am one day sponsored, I will still say something is awesome, only when it is. If a product is crap, I will say as much, like I do now.
Hello brother. Thanks for the video. Would you know to tell the difference between mCable and mClassic? My current setup is Carby + mClassic. Will I get any improvement if I add a mCable to this setup? Does it make sense to use mClassic plus mCable?
I have done videos where I compare the two and I prefer the mClassic over the cable. I think the mClassic has better results as a whole. Additionally, it has the option to manage the aspect ratio. Many Gamecube games were 480p, so they would work well with the Marseille line, but were not widescreen. I think the mClassic did an admiral job with the system. In fact, I would say that it make the thing look almost modern. Here is a video with both: ruclips.net/video/kJ0LLTeYrJQ/видео.html
You can fix the black level difference by selecting -10 for brightness in the Carby menu. The Eon seems a bit brighter, so Carby contrast +5 should bring the two pictures to the same level. Contrast is bright enough at 0 on the Carby.
I'm currently using a "GCPlug" with an mClassic plugged directly into it. Looks beautiful. Only problem is that it's allot of dongles sticking out the back. I like how stable looking the EON MK-II looks snugly in both ports on the back, but since I already have an mClassic would there be any benefit? I was hoping to put the mClassic directly to the TV so that all my consoles could benefit, but they are prone to a blinking black screen from "jitter". I wish instead of selling an HDMI cable that also worked as an upscaler they would sell an HDMI cable that cleans the line of jitter to improve the quality and performance of the mClassic.
I was not familiar with the “GCPlug”, so I had to look it up. I would not buy another adapter that does the same thing. I use a HDMI switch box and connect the mClassic to that. I demonstrated it with this video: ruclips.net/video/pxlcdmjUbms/видео.html What kind of “jitter” do you have? I haven’t seen any.
I run my vintage consoles into an HDMI hub and put the m classic on the other end. That'll fix your dongle problem and put the m classic on all of your devices
Carby all the way. Also from what ive seen the mcable/mclassic tends to look best with 720p consoles like the ps3, xbox 360, and wii u. That said i personally wouldnt pay $70 and up just for some anti aliasing.
To me an HDMI cable is an HDMI cable. It's a digital signal that's on or off. You're not going to get a better picture from a more expensive one. In terms of the eon and carby, I think the eon had slightly clearer text but my eyes are a bit weird looking at white text so I can't say for sure. That's the only difference I noticed
I'm not a fan of the mCable. I do like the mClassic and have done many videos on the subject. If nothing else, it provides a forced aspect ratio of 4:3 or 16:9. The Carby is an easy win for me. The cost alone is well worth the money. The Eon is WAY too expensive.
@@GenerationalGamer now the challenge is finding a Carby that ships to Australia.....without ridiculous shipping costs. Will still be cheaper than gamecube component cables though
@@Cyntaria I don't even know what it would cost. It is US-Based. Kaico Labs makes a similar product using the same GCVideo technology. It may be a cheaper option in your area: ruclips.net/video/QYyHTx4qobg/видео.html
That's not strictly true. you can still have noise and interference with inferior cables, digital or analogue. In this CASE however, I agree that this stupid expensive cable seemed to provide no benefit. i would probablly go th ~$10 HDMI cable. i want shielding and rigid insulation to prevent breaking cables. I do think the GCHD was more crisp than the Carby though.
@@GenerationalGamer Maybe it is your glasses, or something to do with youtube compression even, but looking at the side by side, the GCHD was WAY more crisp. you can see it on smaller text bigtime. like the blue 'POS' for your position in the game. But like I said, this could also potentially be blamed on youtube compression. Would you mind viewing your own video inside youtube and letting us know if the youtube upload reflects what it appeared to you in person?
no hdmi cable worth $100. If you saw what i can output with my wii through hdmi upscaler with component it amazing. even my gc. Though i got s video am looking for an hdmi option though may just stick with s video if it not that big difference.
Eh. I would pay $100 for an HDMI that was > or = 25 feet long, if it also used gold plated contacts. Had to use something like that for my CEOs Desktop in order to get a 4k 60/Hz image on his screen, which was kept quite far from the desktop itself. (I'm a Silicon Valley IT guy) But this mcable doesn't appear to have those high quality materials. still looks like stainless, sooo. not sure what the cost is for.
Just got my other cube and its D.O.A.... I so depessed...lol Ebay seller told me it was functioning and i got burned out of 60 bucks. . He is willing give me a refund but its a hassle to ship it back.... Bad luck with the cube...
The mCable is worthless, but the mClassic has its merits. If you are buying it for the Switch, PS4 or Xbox One, your money could be better placed elsewhere. I think it does a good job for PS2, Dreamcast, GameCube and XBox.
JPrime thanks for the shout out great video. Totally agree Carby is the way to go with a Standard HDMI cable.
I’d still go with the Carby with the mCable too.

I understand, It's a bit cheaper and basically the same thing.
@@JewTubeDon It's also updatable by USB.
Thats right, with the Carby you need homebrew to update via executable .dol because JTAG would be a pain

Yes, hold “B” at startup.
Maybe i missed it but which side in the side by side was the carby and which was the eon?
The CARBY is on the left and the GCHD is on the right. None of these devices look all that different. Which did you think looked better?
