If the Carby has the same performance as this adapter, $75 sounds like a fair price. But $150 for the EON seems excessive. At that point, you’re better off just spending the extra $50 on the official component cables, and still getting superior image quality with it.

I ordered one of those component cables from Nintendo back in the day, for my 16:9 HD CRT. Unfortunately, it immediately went on backorder and then unavailable, so I never got one. I remember hesitating, because I thought the original price of $25-$30 was expensive back then. Even though I have a modded Wii U, there is benefit in getting one of these for Game Boy Player and GBA connector compatibility.
The slight difference in video quality from the gamecube and Wii is no enough for me to warrant a $150 adapter for my Gamecube, a component cable to HDMI is fine for me on the Wii.
You should do a video on CEMU. I don't know what it is, but your style of videos would be amazing for a video about that emulator, even though you mainly focus on retro-ish games. BOTW at 4k 60fps hacked is godly.
I just received my GC HD Mk II from GameStop of all places as everybody else was out of stock or price gouging. Now I am keeping an eye out for a reasonably priced brand new DOL-001 console. Already have a couple games. Metroid, XIII, Star Wars.....
I bought the GCHD-MK2 when I was rebuilding my console collection and chose it over the Carby for two reasons, neither being the price: Feature list and that it looked like a more professional product to me. Having the Wii RCA/Component as an option as well as having an optical audio jack were things that the Carby just didn't have when I was shopping around.
The best way to play Gamecube games is to buy off Ebay a Wii for $15 and a Wii2hdmi Adaptor for $3. Been playing Smash Bros Melee, Mario Sunshine, Mario Kart Double Dash & Metroid Prime on it. Looks amazing!
Wow - I had no idea it was that rare. Like you I bought the component cable way back then and being a regular Lik-Sang customer maybe from there as well. Still have it somewhere.
The biggest reason for someone like me to get this is to use it with GameBoy Interface and a CRT. It’s a niche audience, but it’s great for people who want the best picture possible for GameBoy games on an analog TV. Hopefully in the future this goes down in price then I can enjoy using it with my Trinitron.
Could you do a video comparing the MKII to the Dolphin emulator? I hear you can get the same video quality via Dolphin. Id really like to know if this is true.
You can probably get better video quality in Dolphin, if you've got a beefy GPU you can pump up the internal resolution, apply texture filtering, antialiasing and even install HD texture packs. Still love my real GC though, somehow emulators always have enough little problems with them to put me off.
What interests me as an European the most: Does it also work on PAL Consoles or is it NTSC only? Another thing I don't quite understand is how do you switch between progressive scan and interlaced mode? I know that the Wii gives you the option of choosing between an HD TV 480p or regular 480i output, but I don't remember the GameCube having that same options available in the settings menu?
It's cheaper to get a launch day wii and an hdmi adapter for the wii than to buy just this gamecube adapter. As an added bonus, you don't need to change discs on the wii. I have all sort of nastalgia for the gamecube console, but given that the wii has improved the user experience so much (no need to change discs when playing backups) I don't see the need for the actual console itself.

They really need to keep this stuff in the $20-30 ballpark, saving some of those added features and bigger price tags for the streamers who need it.
The funny thing is they didnt do any of the work. The gcvideo software used by these hdmi adapters is open source, anyone can use it. Eon simply made their own but had the nerve to charge $150 for theirs as if they are having to recoup the cost of developement. Their second adapter (also $150) rips off the Mike Chi's retrotink2x line of of products, which arent open source. Yes, I noticed the delay too. This & the Carby have an audio delay that is really annoying. Not sure why no reviews or comments mention it? I got around it by using the Carby & plugging the composite audio connections into a soundbar & used the Carby for video, though for the price of these I wish it just worked.
You didn't mention the input lag, whether it's still there, I have the original component cables for gamecube, and playing games such as F-Zero GX can be nearly unplayable because of the massive input lag

I have a component cable, but I think it's for the Wii. But if I remember right, it seems like I could never really see any big difference in video quality. But that was so long ago that I might have just forgot. My new 4K TV doesn't even have component cable plugs on the back. Only composite.
Wait, there wasn't any Gamecube with built in sandwich maker? :( Nice video, i really likes your reviews. My life in Gaming did a video about the same topic on the same time and with your video it's amazing what kind of a picture I got as a consumer do buy a hdmi solution for my Gamecube. One last thing, there is a HDMI Cable for the xbox classic out from mascarry, it works very well and maybe you are quite interested to get one of these.
Here in Canada, they actually sold those component cables at retail. They were in a local Royal Canadian Superstore, where I bought my GameCube network adaptor. Unfortunately I never bought the component cables as back then I was still using an old CRT without that input, and I parted ways with the network adaptor which I got on sale at one point for $1.
Seems like a stellar offering and great upgrade from the original for streaming. I will say the Carby is the better buy IMO if you just want to hook up the gamecube via HDMI to a modern TV for sure. I will say this and could be youtube or my monitor, but the official component cables seemed to have more detail vs the HDMI when done side by side. Now to be fair it is very minuet, and you would have to be really trying to split hairs. I would say for the absolute best picture go for the official component cables if money is no big deal and your not worried about TV's no longer having component hook ups. However, for damn near the same thing, less money, and somewhat future proof hook up (compared to component cables) the modern GCHD or Carby are the way to go hands down, and to be honest the slight detail increase in the component cables don't justify the price or lack of future ease of access for me at least.
I had a GC component cable about 10 years ago, even then they we starting to get expensive and harder to find. Sold it with the GC for an unremarkable amount of money, kicking myself now!

"I can't seem anyway this thing can work on a Panasonic Gamecube"
Spawnwave knows a way
Lmao this guy puts Spawnwave to shame. Anybody with a screwdriver and half a brain can take stuff apart.
Gamecube . . . the one (system) that got away (from me, anyway). I need to get one.
just get a wii or wii u.
unless you are planing on using the gameboy player.
Someone needs to make these things so that EVERYONE can afford to get one. Somewhere within the $25-$50 range. Because the current prices are INSANE!
Carby is more reasonable at $79. Still expensive but far less scummy then Eon's ridiculous $150. Especially considering how cheaply made it is in comparison to the Carby.
@@ians_parks Does the Carby one have the extra output for streaming like the Eon one does? I'm not a streamer, but sometimes I like to make my own personal game reviews and stuff.
@@jaym5118 No it doesnt have the 2nd output for component cables. It was added in the 2nd revision of Eon's GCHD adapter. The Carby one never did this.
Wow, I remember lik-sang!!!!
I bought mine off Kijiji. Some dude in a small town about 10 hour drive away was selling em for 10bucks. i asked if he'd ship at my expense, he did... yay!
I really enjoy your channel. Keep going with your awesome projects too.
Lmfao that clip at 0:50 was perfection mate!
Does this one have the sound lag (about 1 second or so) like the original GCHD? And why does no one talk about this? I have a GCHD
It appears to have a lag in this video. Not sure why he wouldn’t mention it?
I have a MK-II and get no audio lag. From what I understand the original GCHD had lag due to it pulling audio through the digital port somehow.
Nice video, i really likes your reviews.
How about using Wii with component cable VS devices you takling about?
Here in Canada, they actually sold those component cables at retail. They were in a local Royal Canadian Superstore, where I bought my GameCube network adaptor. Unfortunately I never bought the component cables as back then I was still using an old CRT without that input, and I parted ways with the network adaptor which I got on sale at one point for $1.
HELLO FROM AUSTRALIA!!!
Dude, finally been noticed by my favourite australian youtuber, cool.
Love the dance Lol, love that Panasonic Q even more though. I still regret not investing in one.
Why don't they make 3rd party component cables for GameCube?
I love this and saving up for one in purple am I the only one that has fallen in love with the box 😂😂
Love the little dance haha
I used to have a GameCube component cable, but when I saw the crazy prices on it nowadays, I cashed in.
i got ym original gamecube but use my nintendo wii with component cable
Love your work mate. Thank you.
I use the like button to mark the videos I watched. Cheers MVG :)
I had a GC component cable about 10 years ago, even then they we starting to get expensive and harder to find. Sold it with the GC for an unremarkable amount of money, kicking myself now!
lol
I actually use the last revision of Zeldaxpro's original GC hdmi adapter, works like a charm.... still want this one though, just looks nicer and I like how sturdy it is
