Great video Bob! I was interested to see how this doodad worked. For me though, I’m waiting for HD remakes on the Switch. The price tag is just too high to justify the purchase in my book.
I just play my gamecube games on my Wii with component cables. I never understand why people don't think of doing this because Wii component cables are dirt cheap.
I have both a Wii with component and a GameCube with the HDMI V3 by Zeldaxpro. Paid $102.50. I tested it by moving my Cube side to side and no loss of image, sound, and no system damage. For any of these HDMI solutions, I'd say if you don't mind spending it then get it. If you're not going to play a lot of the GameCube then maybe not worth the purchase. I don't regret the purchase since I saved up for it, but on my tv i do notice some jaggies in some games. So your experience may vary depending on your tv as well. These devices can only do so much since they don't have an upscaler.
You can play All your GameCube Games On the Original Nintendo White Wii console. It holds 4 wired controller inputs on top of the Wii Console and memory cards. Thats the best way to play The Cube.
The component output is great on it. Bad component cables on the Wii can ruin the signal though. I have good cables and bad cables and there is a big difference.
AND YOU GET CONPONANT 3 CABLE TV INPUTS SO YOU GET A WAY BETTER TV SIGNAL THEN YOU HD TV MAKES IT PRO SCAN BY DEFAULT so you get pro scan vs interlace and you tv is scaling it also wii looked great on samsung 768p tvs and lg xd engine upscaler colour aa optermiser 768p tvs I SHOULD KNOW THATS WHAT I DID looks awful on 1080p tvs tho
I missed out on gaming from the start as well I was able to go out back then hehe. But I feel I missed so much. Got a few old consoles but the burn my eyes. Same with game boy advanced games now. I really like the idea of this. You have a great face
I've been wanting one of these since Metal Jesus did his video on this newer, better one... They keep giving loads of review The only reason I haven't bought one is because it's more money than I'd be willing to pay I'd pay £40 MAX (and that would be me paying more than I'd think would be a fair price, as I'm an enthusiast... A fair price would be £20 imo)
thanks for telling me the difference between 480i and 480p i wondered why my frame rate dropped on most of my computer apps it auto set it to 1080i when i plugged it into my tv
Just bought myself my first gamecube with this adapter for only $100. Even four years after this video, this adapter is at least $150 and a GC console is around $50-$100 with controller and cables. Feel like I got a steal, though it does smell like smoke and is currently undergoing odor treatment... hopefully it will turn out otherwise I am going to have to sell it and buy another one...
My Samsung Smart TV Series 6 allows you to push the picture into 3:4 ratio. But I use Nintendont on my Wii homebrew, which allows you to force the video to 16:9, not STRETCHING, true 16:9 ratio. Although the front screen textures are stretched(similar to the health counter on SMS or the clock on AC) I can get used to it.
For my Playstation 2, I have RCA to Scart converter and it works wonderfully. Also the quality of the game on my new tv looks a lot better than I remember back in the day 😂
GCHD is running GCvideo which you can buy on much cheaper FPGA cards called the Pluto II if you are willing to do some soldering to get it installed. Same HD output and menu (plus you can solder controller input to the board so you don't have to use IR to change the GCvideo settings)
The black bars were vibrating because you didn't enable progressive scan mode on the games. You showed us a cleaner 480i signal throughout the video, 5:09 says the signal is interlaced.
What kind of television doesn’t have Standard definition input? Every TV I’ve ever owned has at least had a SCART input and I’ve never seen a TV without an RF port.
eBay’s GCPlug HDMI adapter for GameCube is $50 cheaper, and fits into any GameCube or Panasonic Q system without any problems. The downside is that GCVideo software is not built in, and the Remote Sync button does nothing and serves as a useless dummy button.
At that price you could get a GC compatible Wii and a HDMI adapter for the the Wii (they are awesome BTW) Or did everyone forget the Wii was GC HD (at least thats why I bought mine back in the day)
For GC I settle with a Wii with component, for NES and PS2 (the only non-hd consoles I own instead of emulating) I just keep a nice CRT TV next to my HDTV for. And yes, I do have component cables for my PS2, but not enough games support widescreen/progressive scan, and I think in general PS2 games just look better on a CRT.
I use my old Sony Trinitron for all my retro game systems hooked into surround sound digital for the best sound possible I go old school cause thats how it was when these systems came out which gives me more of a nostalgic feeling but everyone has there own thing and opinion this is just mine
0:30 "The cleanest footage of Melee you will ever see," I know he meant on official hardware, but I think this would have to earn that title: ruclips.net/video/VsxZSTpvn9c/видео.html
What I usually did is her HD Wii component cables at use that and the games looked great for like 6 bucks on eBay. I bought one from Best buy years ago and one for 6 bucks from China on eBay. They both work the same. I recently bought a new 4k TV and it only has the red white and yellow plugs instead of all of them which sucks because my old flat insignia flat screen had all of them
Hi there! I'm Pierre the maker of RetroStone retrogaming console that I launched on Kickstarter some time ago. They are almost ready, if you'd like one for review I'll gladly send you one!
Once you set it up you can play game cube games on dolphin just like an original gamecube (u can use original gamecube controller with it.)but with just better graphics
But why buy this over the other HDMI adapter? They fixed the issue with breaking gamecubes in the new model, and the two adapters should still be running the same software made by someone else...so what’s the difference? What are you getting with that extra 50$ that you do not get with the new Model 3?
I was waiting for this device to be released, then i was devastated by the news that it doesn't support PAL (interlaced) games. So I'm waiting again till EON releases a PAL friendly version.
I just use my SNES RGB cable, colors look really good, the edges are much sharper and it's 4:3 and that cable coasted me 12€ ( it's still interlaced but I just don't see it on my tv maybe it just hides it ) The issue is that it only works on pal consoles but not a problem for me as I live in Europe :)
EPS5000 Sorry from all of these videos it makes it seem like nobody had these things so I assumed you didn't have them. The only benefit that the GC Video (the open source project that made the HDMI adapter possible) has over the original component is the DAC is a tiny bit faster. It probably isn't noticeable though.
nerdyneedsalife Nintendo's mistake was selling the cable exclusively through their own online store. Not many people even knew it existed at the time, which resulted in Nintendo discontinuing the cable due to slow sales. If Nintendo had made the cable available at other retailer, it would have sold better and they would have produced more of them.
That’s not how progressive scan works it sends a hole image in one frame while interleaved is what you said sends a half image every frame. That’s why when you convert 480i to 480p through a converter the frame rate is lower idk why can some one tell me why I hear that all the time that the frame rate lowers.
Mario sunshine definitely looks a lot better on the switch even though you hate it Ps i told you on your stream that I watch a lot of your old vids lol
Uh oh. You brought up Metal Jesus. Fanboys incoming to tell you it was his fault even though the maker of that adapter admitted the defect in their product and created a new version that fixes it.
I feel that on the Wii U if you emulate the GameCube it'll be brighter crisper and upscaled a lot better than trying it on the Wii not compared to the original GameCube backwards compatibility if you emulated or use a real disc on the Wii it is significantly a 6 out of 10 compared to the Wii U emulation of GameCube gives you a more crispr feel no lag I would say 8 to 9 out of 10 especially if you play Triforce games which blew my mind that's just what I think I'm very happy with doing it that way works really well
Dolphin 🐬 FTW I love the Gamecube but being in a big city I can barely find good deals on the Gamecube and games, yes there’s Amazon and yes there’s eBay but if I can get the games for free off of a website that’s my best bet. Yes it’s got problems if you don’t know how to set it up but there’s a RUclipsr named simply Austin that gives a thorough and detailed walkthrough of the settings and such. I love playing Windwaker at a full 1080p at 60FPS and Simpson’s Hit and Run at that same resolution the only problem is that it takes a good gaming PC to be able to deal with running it and old PC will barely work. But I have an excellent gaming PC so I won’t need to worry about it
But afaik the original Nintendo ones (or third party ones based on the original ones) work better, having more defined edges/pixels and more accurate colour. Though that's just hearsay, as I've been only looking into it and haven't bought anything of it, yet. That's also the reason, why this video got me interested.
Rgb scart for Gamecube can only fo 480i If your using a pvm or a crt that has scart or rgb support then itl look great but 480i on a hd tv looks terrible and 480p with a pvm that supports component looks stunning
I could have said in the past that Dolphin Emulator was the solution... but Nintendo's been suing ROM & ISO hosting sites. Even Emuparadise decided to play it safe and close up their legacy (It was a good site, hundreds of old games could be freely downloaded in up to 20 seperate parts, merged, repaired, and sometimes repaired a second time to get an old game.) I personally disagree with Nintendo's actions because, ahem, *They don't sell the vast majority of those games anymore, so they're essentially making it impossible to play older Nintendo titles altogether*
"This ist The cleanest fotage of melee you will ever See!"
RUclips switches to 120p
Or just use an emulator at 4k
144p
Yup
*Uses an emulator on 1080p with the highest anti aliasing setting, had textures, and widescreen patch plus gamecube controllers*
Sammy Cochrane RUclips Emulator? Where?
Or just get in a real fight in the street now that's melee hd
Touché
Strontiummuffin Two shay
This reminds me of the time Bob beat AJ in Smash
I hope this becomes popular in competitive smash tournaments and streams
Alex Franco Correct me if I'm wrong, but would this eliminate the need for Melee players to hunt down and search for old CRTV's?
Gavin D wut
Gavin D no, because the input lag is why we need crts. Not because of how the game looks.
Socaran Ectien 7:15 there's our answer
LCDs will never have the response time of a CRT, this is why this will never work in a tournament setting.
I tune in to learn about GameCube cables and get Bob AND Dan?
Weird.... I sneezed and tapped on this video by mistake.
FanatixFour r/oopsdidntmeanto
I have a bit of a theory here: Fanatix and Wulff are brothers.
FanatixFour Now thats using your head
"this is the cleanest footage of melee you will ever see!"
Me with an Mclassic: "are you sure about that?"
It's an option for a very small minority of gamers. Me? I'll use my Wii via Component - which is fairly inexpensive - and the image is nice and clean.
Idk why people hate Mario Sunshine. Its my second favorite Mario game after Mario 64. It was, and still is, an awesome game.
Great video Bob! I was interested to see how this doodad worked. For me though, I’m waiting for HD remakes on the Switch. The price tag is just too high to justify the purchase in my book.

That's certainly a good option.

What do you mean by "not?"

I play GameCube games on my black Wii. (Some support GameCube games.)
They keep giving loads of review
The only reason I haven't bought one is because it's more money than I'd be willing to pay
I'd pay £40 MAX (and that would be me paying more than I'd think would be a fair price, as I'm an enthusiast... A fair price would be £20 imo)
Behar Bros makes an HDMI box for the Dreamcast, the Akura Box. Works pretty good.
thanks for telling me the difference between 480i and 480p i wondered why my frame rate dropped on most of my computer apps it auto set it to 1080i when i plugged it into my tv

Subscribed and liked JUST cause of this! huge GameCube lover from Greece here! keep up the good work, mate!
one day we'll have quantum fpga chips and will be able to use those to play original hardware at whatever fidelity with whatever enhancements you want
This is the best image you will ever get..
*raises hand and wants to talk about Dolphin*
.. Out of a Nintendo GameCube.
*slowly lowers hand*
8:19 HOO MAN DID THAT MAKE ME JUMP OR WHAT!!
Doggy Doggy Nintendont for the win! I hated playing GC on my wii with Dios Mios until I discovered Nintendont, then I sold my GC.
I bought a cheap Gamecube RGB Scart cable for £15 .. Games look amazing crystal clear and razor sharp.
Carby is better imo since its the same image quality but half the price and also has a better metal connector. Also the Carby includes a remote.
For my Playstation 2, I have RCA to Scart converter and it works wonderfully. Also the quality of the game on my new tv looks a lot better than I remember back in the day 😂
Wait, you were at TooManyGames? D: I could've met you...
In order to stop the flickering on the top and bottom of the screen, need to enable progressive scan mode by holding b whenever you boot up the game
But can it play Melee?
Watching that GameCube hang from the cables horrifying. I felt like I was watching a lynching or something.
I just picked up a $10 27" CRT for my gameroom and it looks fine to me.
I did not know you uploaded
Loved the Gamecube, still play it sometimes. Very underrated console.
GCHD is running GCvideo which you can buy on much cheaper FPGA cards called the Pluto II if you are willing to do some soldering to get it installed. Same HD output and menu (plus you can solder controller input to the board so you don't have to use IR to change the GCvideo settings)
Great videos like always
Thank you I love your channel I think you're doing an incredible job and I love your delivery thank you so much for all the hard work that you do
Why doesn't the word "sure" have an H in it?
cuz englash.
Sugar
The microphone company Shure does.
Shirley they didn't think it needed it.
The correct "its" you want is "its". "It's" means "it is"
god damn it
Did grammar Naziing actually work?!? Praise fucking Talos!
The black bars were vibrating because you didn't enable progressive scan mode on the games. You showed us a cleaner 480i signal throughout the video, 5:09 says the signal is interlaced.
To me, more progress was made from N64 to Gamecube than any other generational leap. (Aside from SNES to N64, but that's a different story)
Sunshine > 64 fight me!
I tend to avoid physical altercations with insane people, and crack heads. You have to be one of the two to hold this opinion.
Collin McRae true
M64 is overrated trash. Galaxy 2 or Odyssey were the best 3D Mario games.
Nikki Seven what’s wrong with galaxy 1?
SmashyPlays Nothing, but Galaxy 2 is the better game overall.

i have used the same tv for 12 years so yes
What kind of television doesn’t have Standard definition input? Every TV I’ve ever owned has at least had a SCART input and I’ve never seen a TV without an RF port.
Windwaker looks godly with 480p cables...it legitimately rivals Windwaker HD for the Wii U
eBay’s GCPlug HDMI adapter for GameCube is $50 cheaper, and fits into any GameCube or Panasonic Q system without any problems. The downside is that GCVideo software is not built in, and the Remote Sync button does nothing and serves as a useless dummy button.

Yes I have a standard definition tv kept one around for retro consoles. A nice Sony Trinitron 32 inch widescreen. It is Heavy as hell to move though.
What about S-Video? I know it got phased out on the newer HDTVs, but it can make a big improvement over composite on a compatible set
GameCube/Xbox/ps2 is my fav gen also. Best games, ever!!
I love how you say the word “crisp”. Have you ever considered doing ASMR?
Thanks! Great info :)
*insert "can it run crisis" joke here*

I've got me an old AV only TV. Works great.
Simple soloution for this. Use a PC and play it in native 4K. It also works for Wii games. And Wii U games.
Hey great video. Put the thing you’re reading off of behind the camera though, it looks like you’re talking to someone off camera.

Technically dolphin is the high definition of GameCube
This is cool and something I need...
Too bad this is also too expensive.
$150-$300
Also I had a Wii and played Wind Waker on it and noticed no difference between playing it on Gamecube.
Just here to say I love Bob
Inb4 "Actually you can use the dolphin emulator for the best quality"
YOURE TOO LATE CAUSE ITS IN THE VIDEO
RIP
It really is though. 😂
Pwnt, damn son, you got REVERSED TROLLED! AWWWWW YEEEEEEAAAAA!
Freaking 1337 h4x0R...
Welp. Time to buy a Gamecube with both video ports. :0
Maybe one of these days if this adapter ever gets cheaper, I’ll try it. In the meantime, I use component cables.
The GameCube component cables or expensive though. Unless you were referring to composite or a Wii with component cables.
nerdyneedsalife Back in the day, the component cable for GameCube wasn't *that* expensive. It's way more expensive now.
EPS5000 Sorry from all of these videos it makes it seem like nobody had these things so I assumed you didn't have them. CRT. These games deserve to be played the way they were meant to.
I want something like this for my N64. Guess I'll have to shell out a good chunk for a ultra hdmi soon...
That’s not how progressive scan works it sends a hole image in one frame while interleaved is what you said sends a half image every frame. You're a gem
RGB cable (~50$, compatible with SNES, N64 and Cube) + Framemeister (~300-350$)? More expensive, but not only for the Cube.
Krzysztof Chmara You can find way cheaper RGB cables. I have one for like 10 dollars and works great.
But afaik the original Nintendo ones (or third party ones based on the original ones) work better, having more defined edges/pixels and more accurate colour.
Though that's just hearsay, as I've been only looking into it and haven't bought anything of it, yet. That's also the reason, why this video got me interested.
Scart RGB is only supported on PAL GameCubes. The US/JP GameCubes only support S-Video.
Krzysztof Chmara You can’t even use them with NTSC GameCubes
Rgb scart for Gamecube can only fo 480i If your using a pvm or a crt that has scart or rgb support then itl look great but 480i on a hd tv looks terrible and 480p with a pvm that supports component looks stunning

Gamecube was the best to this day!
I would rather just install Dolphin and play at 4K... all for free. Instead of over $100 dollars.
Yeah
So you have a choice pay $100 or commit a crime
Man this video is interesting and the final conclusion is great but the way you get there isn't the most correct?
Hm having the hardware is super great but so is dolphin sooo
Thumbs up for the Metal Jesus shout out.
I’d say I want to see Super Monkey Ball, but that’s what I’m using Dolphin for.
Wob Bulff
That's kind of a dumb question to ask. All the TV's in my house besides the living room tv have AV support. Not everything has to 4k UHD capable.
One word. Dolphin.
Whoa u got a haircut
Sooo, a $150 Eon huh. No sir I don’t think I have any use for an EON. I tell you what though....do you have any rubber walrus protectors?
I lol'd
I would certainly like to use a physical setup for my GameCube games
But I wanna play Path of Radiance and god I am NOT willing to pay that much money
We got the better Zelda too but it sure as hell wasn't windwaker! TWILIGHT. PRINCESS.
Metroid Prime on this... Going to have to fix it up.
You can soft mod and unlock framerate, FOV, and change resolutions too.
First to say first! Great Video!
