About The Boys: THE BOYS is an irreverent take on what happens when superheroes, who are as popular as celebrities, as influential as politicians and as revered as Gods, abuse their superpowers rather than use them for good. It's the powerless against the super powerful as The Boys embark on a heroic quest to expose the truth about “The Seven,” and their formidable Vought backing.

Deep down, Hughie always knew, despite what Translucent said, that he could never go back to his old life. Not when people like Translucent, A-Train, Homelander exist. When A-Train killed his girlfriend, he lost his chance to be "normal"
Then laughed at him about it
I love the show but if his skin was as tough as he said it was wouldnt hughie been shredded by shrapnel? I really need to stop asking questions and enjoy life
At this point Billy was still pretending Homelander was “a saint” to Hughie, so not him.
@@jayb0g Ah, but if A-Train hadn't turned his girlfriend into a fine red mist, Hughie and Billy would have been just a happenstance meeting that would ultimately mean nothing.
Translucent would have people go after Hughie.
The fact that Frenchie controlled his heartbeat says a lot about him.
I mean if his heart was beating fast he could just say he was excited to see Homelander as an excuse
Or that he was on coke heheheh
Just a pity it’s gonna be broken when he hears about Herogasm.

After he killed Translucent, 'Keep You Hands Clean' had a whole new meaning, it went from be a good guy to don't get caught
@Social Injustice Goblin L'avocat de Chronik City est plein de ressources ;)
I don't think that's the symbolism being portrayed here. The whole show up until this point Hughie was afraid to "get his hands dirty" so to speak. Always teetering the line by assisting the boys, but being too fearful to go all the way past the point of no return. At this point, it seems as he is looking at the poster on the wall, this is the moment he is tired of keeping his hands clean. Despite his father, Translucent, the boys, and even the world telling him to. Killing Translucent was the moment he truly got his hands dirty. He's no longer innocent, as he just took a life, and he can no longer go back. He will always be looking over his shoulder and will always have to live with the consequences. He likely still couldn't go back to a normal life before killing him, but this sealed the deal.

anthony starr is brilliant in this. I won’t say he makes or carries the show because it’s pretty good all around, but if not for the fact that he is essentially the main character and arguably the focal point already i’d would say he steals the show.
He’s just so believable. and like you said hes legitimately terrifying.
He’s so good at being Homelander that he thought he was Homelander.
I thought he was Jason Bateman because they look similar enough and both have that smile that doesn't reach their eyes
The biggest clue that Translucent was about to murder Hughie was when he used the line "you'll be the one who saved Translucent." Superheroes are basically seen as gods in their world, the Seven even more so. A god having to be saved by a _normal human_ would be anathema to them. The idea of hughie being his savior was meant for hughie and hughie alone to hear
He probably didn't mean that
Interesting observation
I don't think he was gonna try in that moment cause Hughie still had the detonator, but he was definitely going to come back and kill him and the boys with Homelander
Yeah there's no reason he would turn invisible except to turn around and attack him
@@abdulazizmohammed8797he did

@@godlessandlovingitI doubt he was actually leaving, he probably would’ve went back to disarm Hughie and kill him while he’s not expecting it after going invisible
It's easy to think Translucent didn't deserve this but I forgot about him showing up to hughies work and trying to kill him cause he found the bugs they planted. I always wondered that when translucent turned invisible after he thought hughie was going to let him go if he wasn't going to turn right back around and kill hughie and get the detonator.
Good point never thought of that
Also, he was a creep. He would sexually harrass women with his invisibility
He was Butt ass naked. Try walking down the street like that
That would’ve been awesome if Hughie pulled the trigger only to find out that Translucent was not in that hallway anymore, but somewhere in the room behind him.
It's very true translucent could have just waited a few seconds stayed quiet and pretended like he had walked out of the hallway and then he could just turn around and kill Hughie
It would've been cool if they showed that translucent blew up closer than he appeared to go.
Like he's immediately coming after Hughie after turning invisible.
Imagine if he blew right behind Hughie
Would have made little sense because he had to leave first. He would have come back with a Vought strike team later.

Translucent probably shouldn't have left the detonator there with Hughie, this all could've been easily avoided if they thought things through once and a while.
If he had tried to take it from him or asked for it then it might have backfired so his best bet was to ask him to just let him go.
Hubris.
The entire point of the heroes is that they are all cocky gods who think they are unkillable and that everyone will do as they say. Every other time Tranlucent asked for something from someone, he got it. Why should he thin Hughie is any different? From his perspective, Hughie was the fish out water (he pretty much was) and Hughie didn’t give off “murderer” vibes. For a guy like that, vibes is all it takes. If the heroes weren’t cocky and actually thought things through there wouldn’t be a show. It is brains over brawn the entire show that’s the main physical conflict of killing people and what not.

Gamora:skin has the same density on the inside as it does on the outside
Hughie: I have single handedly defeated my foe
Imagine Hughie stands still…
Yea, but an internal explosion is much more devastating than an exterior one, because all of that energy is blowing outward from the inside.
The body blowing up didn’t make much sense ngl but I think it was purely for spectacle and to show, “yup! He’s dead!” Bc his organs were never said to be as durable as his skin. In reality, he probably would have just had all his organs blown up from the inside and drop dead like an empty bombshell. But would still be invisible and what not. Overall. I’m glad they had his entire body blow up. Who knows! Maybe when his body is out of compound V Ie: gets blown up, his entire power goes away instantaneously which made his skin normal again and blow up. I don’t mind. He was dead either way one just looked cooler
His organs would have sprayed out of every orifice like a sloppy joe. Likely too gruesome compared to generic body explosion
@@nerdthatcantfit1079 An explosion from inside would deal tenfold the damage from an exterior explosion. The reason why explosions hurt in the first place is because its an insane amount of force exerted in an instant. Take that force, and confine it into a cramped space like… a human body. All that force packed tightly into a small area would certainly kill someone even as tough as Translucent.

How it feels to chew 5 Gum:
For those wondering how a guy with diamond hard skin exploded, the human body is 85% water and water doesn't compress. The explosion would have liquified Translucent's still very squishy innards and the equal pressure pushing over everything would have still caused an explosion. Though in the off chance he did still contain the explosion, he'd still be dead and instead of merely exploding his mouth and asshole would have fire out a nice big blobs of freshly pulverized guts.

He didn’t laugh it off. He seemed genuinely shocked
At first I thought it Translucent was being forgetful when he walked off with hughie still holding the trigger, or that the writing was off, but then I realized Translucent was so arrogant that he never thought Hughie would press the button. Great writing
I love this show, blemishes and all. It has it’s occasional issues, but overall it’s a fun watch. Obviously, there are many instances where I wish they had remained more faithful to the source material, but in contrast I absolutely love when they clearly mock, satirize, and criticize the MCU and other supe franchises in the show. Aside from that, Urban and Starr’s performances are just downright enjoyable and captivating. Starr’s frightening and uncomfortable portrayal of a far too powerful, unstable and volatile man-child who just be coddled and affirmed at all times is fantastic. He really sells the crazy, when watching a Homelander scene is genuinely feel like he could lash out in genocidal rage if someone brings him the wrong flavor of ice cream.
In addition, Urban’s Butcher is extremely captivating and compelling to watch. He’s rough and ruthless, clever and charismatic and despite lapses in loyalty and questionable choices(and what can be considered a heel turn in the comics) he truly cares for the boys and even takes a pseudo paternal role with Hughie.
Watching Urban and Starr butt heads, match wits and clash as Butcher and Homelander is always exciting television in my opinion.
The changes in the show are much better than the comics imo
Much better than the comics, the comic is good but very edgy at times, more than the show.
A lot of people think Translucent was about to kill Hughie after going invisible but I don't think he'd have risked that detonator being triggered. He got a good look at it and it only takes half a second to detonate. No way Translucent could have snatched it from Hughie in time. Sure, he was definitely going to turn on Hughie upon getting back to Vought Tower (instead of letting him go back to his life like he promised), but not right here.
and if you think about it, the super heroes all have spun stories. They COULD have spun up a story for Hugie, but there's no way they would.
@@Ocyla Yeah it was well within Translucent's means to save Hughie from Vought's wrath in return for setting him loose, but Translucent's actor does an amazing job of seeming just that little bit off, a little bit too dishonest no matter how logical his arguments are for Hughie letting him go.
Like I think I'd have done the same thing in Hughie's position, not because "of course I'd have the guts or something", but because like Hughie I'd be terrified out of my mind, but know Translucent's offer is just a little too good to be true, because Translucent just isn't a master liar. He's decent, but he's JUST not convincing enough.
Once Translucent's back at Vought Tower, then the Boys have nothing on him. No bomb, no blackmail (like with Pop-Claw or Homelander later) no favour they could provide like with Mesmer later (and he still betrayed them). With nothing on him, he'd throw them to the wolves.
Looking back on Voughts Supes proclivity towards tyranny and violence, the fact that Homelander let Frenchie go on a ‘warrant technicality’ and don’t just rip open the doors and violate his privacy is mindblowing
I mean at this point, Homelander isn’t as psychotic as he is now
That was brilliant! Now I have to binge-watch all of them!
0:39 need to know if there's a full song to that riff, or just a 10 hour loop
The only thing that would make this scene better is Translucid suddenly exploding not at the end of the halway where he went invisible but directly in front of Hughie proving that he was not going to escape but instead turned around to attack him

The fact that Homelander's skin bends and folds when it touches his collar is kind of a problem for the concept of super invulnerability.
How? His skin is very very very very difficult to pierce, but it doesn't have the actual qualities of metal.
@@lolaandjoe123 No one said anything about metal. But If his skin reacts to even slight forces his entire physiology would be different than what we see in the show. If negligible forces have an impact, large forces would obviously have a large impact. If his skin bends against a soft piece of cloth, imagine what a large powerful high velocity shell would do. It would go through his body, but I guess by your logic it would rubberband back out, because his skin is soft and stretchy yet super durable? You're taking a small plot hole in filming/cinematography and trying to form a logical explanation around it. That's the root of why what you're saying is false.
@@artistryartistry7239 Something can be difficult to pierce without being cartoonishly stretchy. This Homelander isn't as Godlike as the comic version, Maeve can make him bleed, his skin can obviously inflect or else it would take great exertion for him to simply move.
@@lolaandjoe123 Why exactly would something extremely soft be difficult to pierce WITHOUT being cartoonishly stretchy? Calling it "cartoonish" has nothing to do with its physics. Again, if small forces cause his skin to bend, this means his skin has the property of pliability -- that's a fact. Add to that the property of extreme durability, and you have something that WOULD absolutely be cartoonishly stretchy. It already has the property of giving way to slight forces, simple physics says that stronger forces would have an equal and opposite reaction, which equals "cartoonish" elasticity.
And now you're trying to compare Maeve's super-powered impacts to his skin, with his skin conforming to a soft piece of cloth. You're basically just saying anything you can think of not to be wrong, but none of what you're saying is driven by logic.
And no, if his skin is extremely durable and requires great force to be impacted, and he is incredibly strong (which he is), then we would expect his strength to be sufficient to affect his own tissue. Otherwise he couldn't move. But whatever the case, we would not expect his skin to have all of these properties simultaneously: super durable, inelastic, and able to be heavily impacted by a flimsy piece of cloth. So my original statement stands.
@@artistryartistry7239 You're just being difficult.
