That articulation is impressive! I have no use for any of the tech and luxury stuff, but I'd gladly use a truck with this kind of traction and articulation off-road. Give me a Work Truck version with the same suspension, lockers, and power and I'd be all over it.
EXACTLY
If I paid $80,000 for a truck and I found out they put Rancho shocks on it I would probably cry
Man, it really is a great truck! My wife got hers on Wednesday. 500 miles so far and we love it! I’m so freaking jealous of how nice the massaging seats are in particular 😅
I find it ironic that he says it's supposed to be a test of articulation yet the truck is just rocking back and forth scraping the rock rails 🤣🤣🤣
News flash! This just in! GM finally sees the benefit of a selectable rear locker! .... And then only puts it on 70k plus trucks instead of part of the off road package for all trims like other manufacturers 🧐 ... That said, I still love the truck
One of the reasons why I moved away from GM…
even worse they put 32” tires on a truck with a heavily modified bumper and locking front and rear diffs!!
GM products are garbage my 2022 has been in the shop 3 times
@@toddbob55 we don't believe a guy with two first names.
I thought it was common knowledge, GM vehicles are not ment to go off roading. I'd take a Subaru before a Chevy lol
That's the best looking front end on any modern GM pickup.
The Diablo Drop Off looks pretty intense. Good on the GMC team letting you try something that wasn't in the plan. It shows the confidence they have in the vehicle.
Sounds a little sarcastic
The intro theme beat sounded like PH I can’t be the only one who thought that 😂😂
Fitting, as it’s truck porn to some 😆
Really does… lol
I did the diablo drop off 6 months ago in my 2002 FX4 F150. Easy work, lol I do have the clearance and 35 inch toyo MTs.
El diablo is tough for stock, low vehicles but a couple of mods and you are good to go.
The MUD caves just north of el diablo drop off are amazing BTW
I done this with my 2019 AT4 with a 6" lift coil suspension with 35" tires don't to 18 PSI and yes the clearance and the bigger tires help ALOT and I had 0 issues
another half ton with factory front and rear lockers, this is a good start!
I don’t know what to say. I’ve done this with no lockers. The real test for these trucks would be coming in the other way to start with - narrow canyon entrance and a short steep climb.
Still using leaf springs when a 5 lynk coil spring suspension gives a better ride. Yes leaf springs equate to carrying more weight but most folks buying the trucks use them as passenger cars.
I really like these trucks, I wish they weren't so expensive.
I'd buy one if they gave them a 3.73 axle ratio. 3.23 is good for getting groceries.
These are the vids i love to see..awesome Andrey..thank you
The truck did a great job for ya Andre. Thanks to you and TFL for the review of the GMC A/T4X. I agree it could use an a little more ground clearance.
They're building some very off-road worthy pickup trucks nowadays, but does anybody else remember the not so long ago time when you actually had to be involved in the driving experience?
Locking differentials, good tires, good ground clearance, and low gearing are all you need.
Diablo drop off is probably one of funnest places to wheel in anza. Not gonna lie though, I’ve seen Subarus go up Diablo drop. Anza is a blast. Now I feel Like going back. Lol
Sounded like a plow going down the trail with all that scraping 😂
Nice looking trucks. Pretty impressed with the articulation but think a little bigger tire and a little more ground clearance would be better especially with the prices of trucks now days.
Really great video you guys really know how to test trucks
GM redesign their trucks so frequent while the previous design still looks great.
your the best Andre you and the TFL team!
I think it’s the perfect truck except the tire size. Let’s be honest, most people won’t off-road with the AT4X. The ZR2 has more clearance which really helps.
also horrible gas mileage
The problem isn't what it came with the problem as you really can't get. 35s or can never get 37 under that truck.
Plus hate the shocks are too low.
Great video. Love the editing
GMC is a very cool company do these challenging courses trusting journalists and damaging their trucks. Great looking truck too.
Mine has been on order for what seems like an eternity. Last week ny dealership received an allocation and my build has been approved. Just 4-6 more weeks
Good job Andre
The opener to this video sounds like the opening to a few other videos that someone may also watch at this time of night.
Andrey you are very thorough .... 👍
Definitely needs bigger tires, 34” would be about perfect 👌🏼 super cool otherwise!
That’s a good looking truck!
Good video as always but No thanks on that gm junk
I'm pretty sure the dssv shocks first appeared in the Camaro Z28. Then they showed up on the Colorado. And before that they were on the Aston Martin one 77
You guys should test it without lockers then use it if needed
Great looking truck! The headlight nacelles resembles the Gen 3 Raptor, in my opinion.
The 32" tires are a mystery since it's corporate brother (ZR2) has 33"s. Fuel mileage thing perhaps? 🤔
My guess is because of the stupid wheel well design and bumper. Bigger tires would most likely rub on the back of the bumper and wheel well liners
I would have that face too after GMC didn’t touch the bumper like Chevy did. Wtf were they thinking
Watched this again today. When you asked to go up the otherside? I have wo wonder if that's why the new AEV version is getting 33" tires! Just needed that little touch of clearance!
Zedr2 is preferred to me, the bumper cutouts are helpful
Going down the drop off isn’t too crazy but going up can be tough
I like it.
Impressive
Andre have the same tires on my 2021 Tacoma 2wheel drive
Definitely looks better than the ZR2 in my opinion. Always liked the look of the GMC over the Chevy
It looks like the GMC can’t go to 33 inch tires due to the sqround wheel wells. The ZR2 has more rounded wheel wells so it gets 33s.
Everything is a trade off, you lose flexibility with larger tires.
Not quote true. If you option the AT4 with 20" wheels, they end up with 33s.
@@terrencejones9817 How many inches tall are the factory tires?
@@TheBeatenPaths if you option the 20" wheel it has a 275/60/20. Which is exactly 33"
@@terrencejones9817 Can't get 20's on the AT4X, just the normal AT4, unfortunately.
I just cant get over that the ZR2/AT4X is just a trail boss with a 1 inch lift, multimatic shocks, front selectable locker and badges. And people are paying the premium. Raptor you can see what makes it different from the Tremor and FX4.
nice ,what did you think of my anza desert as close to moab I can get I spent the winter there
It's basically the GMC version of the ZR2
ie. It's actually really capable in the unlikely scenario it's ever taken off-road.
That's exactly what I thought.
Zr2 Colorado is better
Wouldn't want to take this 91000 $ Canadian truck off roading to that extent.
I would buy this truck to definitely put on off-road. I do not understand why someone wouldn’t do it. It’s $80K truck more than capable!
At least it would be capable off road if it didn’t have 32” tires 🤦♂️ epic fail gm! gm must have missed the 1000’s of press releases about the raptors 37” tires!
Why would you use both lockers going DOWN a steep hill? Or either locker for that matter?
What’s the best full size off road truck while pulling an off grid trailer over landing?
Hey Andre, it’s the Anza Borrego desert. And Diablo Drop off is supposed to be one-way only, down only.
Is there a big skid plate under the bumper like the zr2?
Surprised GM didn’t make the front end different on the at4x compared to the normal
At4.
Wow its pretty impresive it looks like a Range Rover or a Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk '17!
Idk what gm did but I have a feeling they are going to sell a ton of these. Extremely capable trucks with luxury. Wonder if the Tahoe and Yukon will get this treatment also. Their z71/at4’s already look great
Front and Rear lockers make all the difference. I still would get this over a Raptor or TRX. It is better for trails, not crazy wide, and is more usable for a daily. I do think they should have gone with 33s like the ZR2 and not a pretty bumper.
Why are the tires smaller on the AT4X than the Silverado ZR2. Still no official response.
This truck had the potential to be so bad-ass, and instead we get a lukewarm version of what could've been. AT4X interior is sweet and the suspension might be great, but it still doesn't make the approach/departure angles any better or give the truck bigger tires. At least the Silverado looks the part from the front end. Both were a missed opportunity by GM, especially at the price they're asking.
Blah blah, still the most luxurious off-road capable high tech machine that don’t cost $100,000 like others.
@@mybro727 @mybro727 yeah only $75k. You know, Raptor and TRX territory.. you're clearly not that bright. Why don't you put your money where your "blah blah" is, and go buy the "most luxurious off-road capable high-tech machine that don't cost $100,000"
You should win an Academy for your this performance..
If you put the ZR2 and the AT4X together, to me the AT4X is the better looking Truck.
Am I wrong I don’t know but it seems to me the ZR2 has more ground clearance and handles better off roading?
Tumbleweed names for Fish Pond obstacles ---- #1 - (PeW) #2 - (ArTeeGrip 34) #4 - (GoodLuck Gully) #5 - (Troubling Disorder) #6 - (Helmet Hill)
any of those have the diesel?
At 3:56 , why are those control arm/ cam bolts brand new?
IMO truck manufacturers are making too many different models . This truck needs an option for at least 34.5's or 35's.
Climb? Diablo? 🤯
What's the actual tire size tho?
Did they have any of the 3.0L diesels out there (if available on the AT4X)? If so, did you talk to anyone that was able to give it a go? That's my preferred combo of trim/engine, but I don't know if they are offering only the 6.2L like they do in the ZR2.
3.0 is only available in the AT4 trim, not the AT4X. I have no idea why 🤦🏻♂️
@@Losky79 it's a shame for sure.
3.0 not available on at4x or zr2 .....Yet lol
I love my 6.2 be nice to get the 25mpg with diesal though
@@sschevmale24 40% more than regular gas. doesn't make sense although cool
Given the need to differentiate between the Silverado ZR2 and the Sierra AT4X, I'm disappointed that one of the pair didn't come with the 3.0L diesel as standard vs. the 6.2L. It would be an easy way to separate the pair, aside from styling.
I wish some of these truck makers would offer a factory winch system
Paying for the name
The new 84 X
When going off-road how much do you lower your tire pressure?
The pressure monitor system on the dash said they were at 25psi.
@@andrewcox7179 thanks! Wanna know so when I go off-road in my Rebel I know now ! Lol
@@henryherrera8071 no problem! I usually run about 20 when I go to the sand dunes here in MI. Don't go too low or you'll run the risk of blowing one off the bead.
@@andrewcox7179 thanks! good to know cause we don’t want that to happen
Did they say why they chose to not raise it a little more, why they went with a lower front bumper, and did not go with a bit larger tire? Seems like if you are bragging about off-road, you really have some obvious things that make it off-road worthy. Still impressive of what it did and the guards did their job. Would just like a bit better approach and clearance, especially in that class and price range.
Where is the Trx ?
I don't know why chevy/gmc uses those massively low hanging rear shock mounts. They need to move those inboard. I've heard so many stories of ZR2's ripping those off or damaging the super expensive multimatic shocks.
It's impressive, but I wish GMC would've had an older truck like my 2015 Z71 crew cab for comparison, would a truck like mine, without the front locker and fancy shocks make the same climb,.? To show why you would need to spend another $35k.! I'm guessing maybe 3% of people who buy these trucks actually go to places like this to see what their truck can do.! And being that GMC already had a planned set course for you to drive on, there wasn't much of a surprise if the truck could make it.
Great video, I don’t think the extra .5in of clearance from a 33 tire would have helped that much. Let’s be honest no one takes their GMC off road so that’s why they did a 32 :)
Thank you! He kept yammering about a 33" tire making a world difference. Give me a break, these trucks are not going to go anywhere near this stuff. Impressive that it did what it did in the end.
They have 32s because GMCs can’t handle as big of a tire as the Chevys. Square wheelhouse vs round. You could fit a 33 on this and 34s on the ZR2 but that’s about it
exactly
With a 3.23 axle ratio, it competes with my Radio Flyer.
didn't hurt performance one bit.
If you were with the GMC team why didn't you ask them about 35s?
The more i see the refresh, i kind of like the exterior look of my 2021 better. I wish i could have this exterior with the new interior.
The front clearance is horrendous. Looks like an old man truck ready to tackle any road towards coffee and a donut. Why wouldn’t they give it the same clearance as the zr2…
Have to agree with Andre. It’s a shame this truck didn’t come with more tire , more ground clearance and less bumper like the ZR2. At this price , the Raptor and TRX are way ahead.
True for off-road capabilities (it does have front and rear lockers). However, the interior is what makes it so expensive IMO.
Are you seriously comparing this interior to a TRX and a Raptor? And also in the same breathe admitting the ZR2 is “way ahead” of the Raptor and ZR2 for the price? If those off-road amenities were e important to you than the luxury of the AT4X then you’d just buy the more capable less expensive Silverado. That’s sort of the point in offering them both side by side.
TRX is plain stupid for everyday use. mpg and permanent 4wd make it a hideous daily driver
Needs 35's as an option
Chrome it out
The people who buy the AT4-X can afford a Raptor or TRX. The AT4-X must suit them better for whatever reason. Maybe they are more concerned about tight spaces. Who knows? I was impressed Andre made it up that crazy hill without too much trouble. It's a great looking truck with some different features and more choice in the market is great. If you want 37s go get em.
I bought mine because it is equipped similar to the Denali Ultimate interior wise and you can take it off road, where with the Denali ultimate you could due what this truck can and does.
My wife had a Raptor and traded for one of these. We drive on sand and unpaved roads regularly, though don’t do crazy off-roading. We do however deal with severe snow in the winter, which is the main appeal of these trucks to us… The interior on this is awesome, and it’s nicer than her 20 Raptor was and our 21 Yukon Denali 😒
for 99% of use wide body is a total waste and hinderance in parking, turning, garages, etc. almost everything is a disadvantage. normal body more maneuverable on trails. Canyon would be even better off road. Beautiful truck
😍😍😍👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Yea it’s very steep and intimidating, but crossovers literally go up this. I’ve cruised up it easily.
Never saw a crossover go up it. Seen rubicons, defenders, xterras, 4.runners. Curious what you drove up it and whether it was stock.
@@milesb4231 my stock rubicon… check JonDZ adventuring. They took crossovers up it plus there are videos on RUclips showing it as well.
Waaay to much coin to be out beating on. Remove some of the bells and whistles, cut the cost by $15k where normal folks can afford it and sell em by the bushel.
Me, I'm waiting for the revised Colorado with a nicer interior, better fuel mpg and tow capabilities and more go with the 2.7 turbo and get rid of my current 6.2 Denalli that even with the 6.2 gets better mpg than my former TRD pro taco.
To a fan of the extra size of this 1500 and looking forward to getting back to a more manageable size truck.
These press events are lame. Glad the boys get to drive all the new trucks though
They went that way cuz their GM. Profit as much as possible
The new front redesign looks better on the Chevy and GMC than the 2019 truck but looking at them from the back they still look like a cardboard box. The design team lost their mo Jo after they got to the back of the cab. Slightly rounded corners would be better. Like the off road goodies but like someone else said GM needs to offer it in a work truck package or SLE trim. Who needs fancy seats. $70,000 isn't exactly lunch money.
Always have thought the at4 was sharp and this as well, reliability steers me away from gm though.
32" tire?🤣🤣🤣
He just wanted to even out the rockers going up the drop off
and only 84 thousand dollars what a bargain !!!!!!!!
Let’s be honest, only RUclipsrs are beating these trucks off-road.
bingo
If you can tell the difference in a 32" vs a 33" tire sidewall flex aired down to 25 psi on soft sand, I would give you 1 Million dollars. Brother, thats only 1/2 difference in height and even less aired down and sunk in the sand. Its all in your head...
yep. big ado about zero
Just a set of 37s with 4 inch lift and voila....
said no GMC owner ever
Would a red carpet event include a blood stained carpet from a failed robbery attempt? Anyway, nice job going back up the hill in a ho-hum very expensive truck.
