    The cost of the AEV package is actually a good value. If you tried to replicate the same options, Bumpers, wheels & tires, skid plates, sliders, from the after market granted of lesser quality & engineering, you would spend that amount or more between parts and installation. So you can buy it off the lot with top quality engineered parts and a warranty cheaper than you can do it yourself.

    • @anthonymrskipt9252
      @anthonymrskipt9252 8 месяцев назад +6

      I would add that you get a warranty that will actually be recognized at the dealer. In addition, the payload of a the same truck with all the same sort of equipment added aftermarket is the same. The fact that this comes this way means you’re actually being told what the payload really is rather than guessing or pretending that all that stuff you added yourself doesn’t have exactly the same impact. I drove the non-AEV version of this truck with the 6.2, but am seriously looking at exactly this truck to use as an overlander with a canopy camper. I am concerned that the payload may be an issue, but the fact that AEV has worked with GM and everything comes with at least some kind of warranty is extremely appealing. Yes, it’s expensive, but for what you’re getting it seems like a fair price. I’m hoping that the glut of pick-ups works in my favor over the next few months and that I might be able to get one of these at a more reasonable price with a bit of patience.

    I think the AEV package is worthy every penny if you're actually going to use this truck off-road. A truck this large needs armor off-road. The the bumpers, rock sliders, and skid plates are essential. You're going to drag the belly with this. You're going to hit the bumpers on ledges. The AEV package gives you all that and unlike going aftermarket you know its covered by warranty and works properly with the safety systems.

    I’ve ordered a 2024 ZR2 Silverado with 3.0 DuraMax. If I can get 24.7 MPG I’ll be elated. My 2023 ZR2 with 26K and 6.2L has overall average 15.2. Premium gas is $0.30/gal more than diesel. And the 3.0 is $2K cheaper than 6.2 in 2024. No brainer on 3.0 DuraMax!

    This is a really awesome truck. I do wonder, though, if anyone who buys an 88k truck would actually drive it off road like that. A straight six makes much more sense for a diesel than a V8. The usual reason to have more cylinders is to rev higher, and diesels don't rev. Plus why would you want two cylinder banks, two head gaskets, two banks of intake and exhaust, etc. Plus you get less friction with a six, which makes it more efficient, which is what diesels are good for. If a six works best for long-haul trucks and even giant ship engines, it should work well enough in a pickup. Good job GM.

      In line 6 length kills that idea. The pay off in fuel savings is completely wiped out by an oil pump belt service at 150K (200k On the revised 3.0 diesel). removing transfer case and then transmission to get rear engine cover off is not going to be less than $2500. If the list of other things it is wise to do while you're there, like timing chain and guides ("ought to do that now, those won't go another 200k and we're already in it") then the price goes up up up.

    I wish I could have the cash to buy TWO big trucks! I'd pick this one and the F350 Tremor! THe AT4x AEV as my daily off-road work driver and as a seriously off-roady-looking mall crawler AND for the big tow jobs the F350.
    Since I don't have that sort of cash, I have to make do with the company-car F150 Lightning which is a GREAT vehicle and does do SOME small amounts of off-road use (i.e. it tows surprisingly well even on FSR roads!).
    Depending on the finance rate of the bank, if I can get $890 per month at 3.5% per year over 7 Years for an F350 mid-trim 4x4 Lariat model ($68,000 USD) with the heavy tow package ($3500 USD) which I can upgrade to my hearts delight, we is good on a monthly payments basis! When you include insurance, you SHOULD ensure everything comes out to just under $1000 per month after a $3000 to $5000 downpayment which is doable by MANY tradespeople and contractors if you are grossing $4500+ a month! Keep track of your mileage, fuel costs and contractor time card and submit the info to IRS/CRA and you can get around 12% up to 17% back so you effectively have a lower monthly payment!
    In Canada, you go for TDbank vehicle financing for decent rates even with lower FICO/BEACON scores around 600 to 660 or Carfinco if you are lower in credit scores! If you are in the U.S., Wells Fargo, Chase and Bank of America are your best bets for truck financing! Anything above 660 FICO/BEACON credit score, go for Ford, GMC/Chevy, Ram and Toyota-offered manufacturer financing at the lowest interest rates for 6 to 8 years!

    I will never buy another GMC truck. They screwed everyone over that had the faulty lifters in the 6.2L and 5.3L gas engines. I had a 2020 AT4. I sold it after my lifters failed and it literally blew up one side of my engine. Luckily, It was still covered by the engine and powertrain warranty (by just a few thousand miles). They put the same faulty parts in it for the repair. It would totally not be reliable on a long trip or in the wilderness. Could not be trusted. GM should have recalled all vehicles with these lifters. There are multiple class action lawsuits regarding this. Never by a GMC vehicle. They will screw over their customers for a buck.. I am surprised how many videos TFL has put out on the gas powered 6.2L AT4 Sierra 1500 without mentioning this. Of course this video is about a Duramax Diesel. One main difference is pricing, Chevy would probably be cheaper than GMC. And you're probably missing out on luxury features from GMC if you pick Chevy. That's what I think is the difference between the two, but other than that they're pretty much the same truck.

      @@triedproven9908 25mpg is nice, but burning oil a quality issue. I've read that some of these engines burn up to a quart every 1000 miles. It's just poor quality, or maybe a design flaw, for them to burn that much.

    You guys don't keep vehicles long enough to realize total cost of ownership. Your never going to get great range while towing. The DEF fluid requirements along with the engine oil consumption is incredible. The maintenance costs are also higher. Add up the cost the DSL engine option,the higher cost of fuel, cost of DEF, cost of engine oil, the extra weight load on the brakes and front end. Don't forget the EGR, EGR cooler along with the DPF and sensors replacement.
    Not even close with the lifetime ownership cost
    of a gas engine. The automotive press is living with a romance from days long ago. The modern DSL engine is going away, outside of towing over 15,000 lbs.
