3D Scanning is very impressive. the newest Yakuza games have characters with lifelike skin and dimples because they're all scanned in very high quality
i just really love how the game made super earth treating war and soldiers dying like its nothing. Yet they still treat the soldiers with honor and as a hero
even if you're just fodder, respect the fallen. they died so you could complete the mission. no mission too difficult, no sacrifice too great, duty first.
I mean if you look at the stats next to the mission select map, deaths are in the millions-billions at this point, death is just a statistic so the ones who do come back are treated like heroes

I love that you can hear the propaganda reflected in your character's voicelines while you're shooting bugs. Game starts off telling you you've got a 20% chance of survival, but your character is screaming "DEMOCRACYYYYYYYYY" in the face of 3,000 killer robots.
"See exotic new lifeforms" has the same energy as that one skit about enviromental conversation where the guy says "we should keep an eye out for endangered species. Oh look, there's one now!" and then pulls out a rifle and shoots it.
The gameplay often mimics the ‘not taking itself too seriously’ vibe because of the patriotic voice lines and the ragdoll physics. Top tier game, best coop game to come out in a decade or more if you ask me.

The detail that none of the liberator guns shown in the trailer have a magazine inside of them is crazy. The more you watch this the more layers there are, truly a masterpiece of our time.
This might be the best intro I've seen in a while. It captures the source material and its style of humor so perfectly, while making a compelling pitch for this genre of game. And I used to think Starcraft's "I'm totally not Warhammer 40k" was the most brazen case of something walking right up to the line of stealing an IP but changing just enough of the homework to avoid infringement. This takes the cake by far. Keep doing your part, Helldivers. I do hope that you double checked that every instance of "Starship Troop" had been replaced by "Helldiv" though since...well that is all you changed.

They'd hired Blizzard to make a Warhammer Fantasy game, and it was coming along so well that another part of Blizzard made a proof-of-concept for a 40k game in anticipation of a fruitful partnership. Then GW pulled out without paying and expected Blizzard to abandon all that work or get sued. Blizzard instead retooled the games into their own IPs. The more blatant ripoff is that, after Starcraft came out, Games Workshop redesigned the Tyranids to rip off the Zerg.

Fantastic. I was watching Starship Troopers for the umpteenth time the other day. Was thinking it was a surprise nobody had ever made a Starship Troopers game. It's tailor made for it.
