Today we’re looking at some prototype polishes that almost never were released! But mooncat decided to spoil us by releasing this little quartet called Band of Misfits 😈 can you guess which shade belongs to which collection? What do you think of releasing prototypes?? I personally love this idea and would love to see more 🙈

i think the idea of releasing scrapped polishes is such a cool idea! as a swiftie, it gives me the same vibes as when she puts vault tracks on her re-recorded albums! it’s so fun to see what almost was released and to extend an album (or polish collection) that we already love!

Yess Sin Eater is probs my top fav esp for the fall season haha but lovee Space Oddity too! Omg yes Hallucinate is unreal, it basically is a dupe for that one Clarins 230 unicorn pee polish from years ago 🤣 & so glad you love the comparisons!! 🥰🫶🏼

I love Mooncat polish, they are really stepping up the game in the nail polish business, and their formulas keep getting better and better.

Michelle posted that Heavenmetal was just a rogue prototype that the team loved. Also thought it was super similar to GoH! It honestly seems like a GoH-fied version of Moonrise. I actually wonder if a thin coat of Moonrise over GoH could achieve something similar 🤔 Moonicorn looks pretty but I just got Lumen’s Space Cloud so I should probably pass 😅 I may get Sin Eater during the sale though!
oh okay cool! oo yeah i def get what you mean where its a mix of GoH and moonrise haha! i think Moonrise would tint the base of GoH to be a superrr light pink but other than that it probably would be close! omg i def would love to see a comparison to Space Cloud, i just saw someone post it and regretted not getting it but you’re right it does look similar to Moonicorn 😅 yay for Sin Eater making your wishlist!! its stunning 🤩🤩
@@PolishedYogi space cloud is a little more delicate in person than some of the online swatches of it that I saw so I think they’re super similar! Probably decent dupes of each other so don’t regret it haha

I love this idea of releasing prototypes too! Heavenmetal is certainly very close to Ghosts of Hecate, but I guess it gives a chance to pick a favourite for those who don't have any of the two. I mean flakies can make someone change their mind lol. Thanks for including Gravity Hold me Back because I own that one and wanted to see that comparison. I will get Sin Eater and Moonicorn first. Thanks again for another great video.

Oh thank goodness Sin Eater wasn't too similar to Cyborg and Illusionist!! I pounced all over Sin Eater this morning. I have ILNP Hallucinate too, and which one do I like better? I'm not sure.... I think probably Hallucinate. I gotta stop giving in to fomo pressure!!
yeah I was happy to see how different Sin Eater was to those too! but also surprised to see just how similar it was to Hallucinate 😅 i can’t choose between them though, i reallyyy loved Hallucinate but i’ve been loving these more reddish purple bases lately 😍
I’m really in love with Sun Eater, and I don’t typically go for reds. But the depth and complexity is sooo lovely!

I did not expect to love these as much as I do! The only one I think I’ll pass on is Sun Eater. I actually like ILNP hallucinate so much more! I know they are not dupes though. But I love the purple in the ILNP. And I really love heavenmetal more than ghosts of Hecate! I think the extra sparkle factor just speaks to my soul! 🥰✨But my fav of this band of misfits is hands down Space Oddity! What a beauty! 🩷✨

I love Moonicorn! 😂 But in person I think I would like Ohana better, because blue shimmer!! I remember KBShimmer did a misfits sale a few years ago. They called them misfits too! 😉
its soo pretty! and agh yes Ohana was def a fav from that release, I think that one is on sale rn too 👀 and oh how cool!! I don’t follow KB as closely as other brands but they have some gorgeous polishes too, so i bet the prototypes were just as fun 🤩
How do you think Moonjelly compares to Heavenmetal? In my mind they would be quite similar too? Otherwise I'd say Space Oddity is definitely my favourite, glad they are staying around :)
hmm moonjelly to me would be most similar to Curiosity’s Prey if you’re familiar with that one! but compared to Heavenmetal, MJ is more of a true white crelly base (like Ghosts of Hecate) and has iridescent flakies with no silver/holo flakies. they do share a strong blue shimmer though, but otherwise i’d say they’re very different! you can DM me on insta if you wanna see a side by side :) glad you love Space Oddity and yes, def happy these are here to stay!!

thank you!! Curiosity’s Prey is almost more similar to Ghosts of Hecate with the white crelly base. while it has flakies, they’re more iridescent while the flakies in Heavenmetal are smaller and silver/metallic/holo. so theres more color in Curiosity’s Prey with the flakies!
Adding these to my list for the next lunar eclipse sale…. It’s getting to be a very long list 😭😭

I like the release, but I’ve come to realise I don’t like when polishes look different in the bottle to the nail. So many of Mooncat polishes are very sheer or have a coloured base you can’t see in the bottle… I feel like if I buy a polish I won’t know what I’m purchasing until I get it on my nail (or watch a swatch video like yours).
I totally get what you mean! yeah I think that’s why I really value watching swatch videos so much, the photos are always beautiful but usually you’re missing info like what base coat they’re using, how many coats, etc which all can factor into how the polish ends up looking!
I love this brand and I can't wait until Hypnotic reopens so we can get it in Europe again.

How does moonicorn compare to Artemis deathkiss?
moonicorn is a much lighter lilac or pinky purple base color while Artemis Deathkiss is grey and has a purple shimmer. i think the shimmer color is close to the color of moonicorn’s base which might make them look similar at first glance, but definitely very different vibes!
So many thoughts! I’m not the biggest fan of the misfits idea honestly, it feels kinda lazy to me and can result in awkward color stories, but at the end of the day when we’re shopping we don’t really care what collection they polishes come from. I also think perhaps part of the reason they didn’t release Moonicorn is because it’s too similar to BKL Doomicorn. It kinda puts a bad taste in my mouth honestly. Lastly, I love that combo you did with flakie HT at the end, it looks just like heavenmetal!
Thank you for sharing them all! Yeah I can see how these might seem random lol but I do think this first set was well curated! And ugh yeah I kinda did an eye roll too reading Moonicorn lol. I did see comparisons to Doomicorn in @sunbeamnails and @polishedbookwoem on IG & they’re actually a lot more different than I thought.. but idk the initial association did feel like they just copied and I didn’t like that either. I’m glad you liked the last combo though!! 🤍✨
