Welcome to a new series called The Best Of where I go over my Brand Favorites! So many of you have asked for a series like this for a while & I figured i should start with mooncat since their Lunar Eclipse Sale is right around the corner 👀
I hope you enjoyed this style of video where its me talking about one brand specifically. obviously since its the BEST of, i’m gonna focus on my favs/recs, but I still think its important to mention some things I don’t like! I hope I did a good job in sharing some of those concerns that have existed up until a few months ago, I know mooncat definitely had a bit of a bad rap for a while when it came to their formulas and even swatch photos, but I genuinely think they’ve listened to the customer feedback and improved those issues. But let me know what you think so I can improve on it for the next video :)

LOLL I knoww, I don’t exactly want to like encourage people to shop more than necessary, and it doesn’t help I have a lot of favorites haha 🙈 but I had this series in mind to go up before any sales so at least it’ll be “worth it” for those planning to shop anyway 😅

Great new series! I’m excited. I have a HUGE Mooncat collection, but I’ve only opened a few bottles thus far. You made me want to go and swatch them all haha, to see what my absolute favorites are. Definitely continue talking about issues you’ve had with each brand you review because that helps your viewers make an informed decision and make you look and sound more credible. Will you please do ILNP next? I love that brand so much and I reach for their lacquers often. I’m curious to see if any of your favorites will align with mine :)

Let me tell you the OBSESSION 🤩that I have with Mooncat and ILNP is as intense as the same obsession I have with your and Kelli Marissa’s channel. Your comparisons make the difference in my nail polish decision process.
I like to hear, you consider yourself as a cute and airy person, because I’m also like that. I just can’t stop repeating this throughout my comments. This also helps me to decide what to add to my collection.
On the other hand, I truly believe that “Curse of Calypso” and “Ghost of Hecate” should be sell just as a duo. Those two are my HOLY GRAILS from mooncat. I recently got “Mermaid bait and I’m waiting until January to wear it because it gives me icy vibes even though it is a summer shade. I feel like it going to become in another sacred shade like these two that you also love.
You also made me buy for this lunar sale the shade “Take me to your leader”. You accurately described my sensation when I got “Flight of the Monarch’s”. I want that deep purple to stand out more and I can’t wait to have it.
Lastly, I’d like to tell you that I loveeeee this series. So perfect for this Black Friday/ sale season. Watching this series I came up with the idea if you could consider creating a series of your favorite shades from each brand that have departed/discontinue that we could posible buy from a distash.
I had so many things to tell you. I truly appreciate your content and thanks for the wonderful videos. I love to watch them to distress at the end of the day.

I couldnt agree more about Curse of Calypso and Ghosts of Hecate being a duo!! maybe they will at some point, i love when brands put together little duos or bundles! omg Mermaid Bait is sooo pretty!! that and High Fructose are so so mesmerizing and i neeed like a true tinkerbell green in that finish 🤩
and omg yay I hope you LOVE Take Me To Your Leader!! i know everyone and their mom loves/recommends FotM (and for good reason lol) but people neeeed to remember TMTYL exists!! it really is such a pretty purple!
I’m so happy you love this series!! 💓💓 and OMG I had a similar idea before wanting to do a video on discontinued polishes that i want to come back or yeah to be on the lookout for in destashes! but I figured for me it would be one video talking about multiple brands only bc I’m not familiar with that many discontinued shades to do a series 😅 I’ll have to flesh it out but i’m so glad you’re already excited for something like that!

Love this style of video!! I got into indie polish about a year ago, and even that was a gradual progression from one brand, to a few, to many, so there are lots of collections, shades, and backstories about different brands that I missed out on, so these kind of videos are always super helpful! Now if I'm shopping destashes I can keep my eye out for some older colors I want to pick up!

It's a cool concept, but I think I'd like it better if you did a new swatch, at least one nail for each polish featured, but I get that would be a lot more work.
thank you! i appreciate the feedback and definitely do think including a swatch clip would be helpful too, but yeah it just would take too long esp considering i want to get these up in the next few weeks 😅 will def keep it in mind if i continue this series or revisit it though :)

Love this series! And I agree it would help but I do get why you can’t. Maybe you can add in your old swatch vids since you’ve swatched a couple of them before!
Polishes dry via solvents evaporating. Quick dry top coats have solvents picked specifically because they evaporate quickly. Quick dry top coats will get thicker after a while because every time you open the bottle, solvents evaporate from the bottle. If the bottle neck and cap threads have polish on them, the cap won’t close tightly. Any time the cap isn’t closed tightly, tiny amounts of air gets in and solvents escape. All of that happens in all polishes, but especially quick dry top coats because their solvents evaporate quicker than others. I always have to add thinner to my top coats and my base coats after a bit. (I’m sure you know that. This information is just for anyone interested. I’m a nail information nerd and love facts about nails and nail products.)

Great idea to feature the best of…in a brand. I’m still a newbie to polish but especially to Indies and boutique polish brands and find this series extremely helpful. Thanks for sharing your favorites and getting these videos out in time for the sales. I would love you to feature KBShimmer and ILNP. Do they also have Black Friday sales? You mentioned you use thinner to make thick polishes more manageable…which one do you like best? Thanks again and I look forward to the other videos😊🫶🏼
thank you!! so glad to hear this series is insightful, hopefully future videos will be too! i definitely was planning on ILNP but I sadly don’t have enough KB Shimmers to do a video on them i think 😖 i know ILNP does 25% off but don’t remember how much KB does, i would imagine 20% like other indie brands.
for thinners i actually have 2! the one i usually use is from Beauty Secrets found at Sallys, that gets the job done for the majority of polishes but it contains heptane which is actually bad for glitter polishes! so i also have a bottle of OPI’s thinner exclusively for glitters. i actually think KB shimmer has a heptane free thinner so maybe you can add that to your cart, its always recommended on reddit!

Love this idea for a series! I may have to add House of Hades to my wishlist! Velvet Rose too, I wasn't too happy with Cirque's Bae, it just didn't seem pink enough for me, but Velvet Rose looks like it would hit the spot!

love this favorite video for a specific brand! If you do it for another brand would you be able to swatch them in the video? It would be helpful to better see all the dimensions and colors of the polishes.
i will definitely try that for the next videos! it just adds a lot more work that idk if i have time for considering i want to have them up before any of their respective sales 😅 but i do have swatches of almost all of them on my channel already :)
Love this idea. The Halloween nightmare before Christmas box was my first order with them and I added in stumped. I’m very impressed with them so it’s nice to see more to consider

Thanks for sharing, this gave me some ideas for my Mooncat wishlist. Would be great if the you continue, and if the search pictures could be bigger. It's hard to get a good sense of the polish from the small pictures, although your descriptions were detailed enough to get the idea

I love this idea! But definitely feel like I need to go hunt around for swatches, so would love if you added swatches. I know it seems redundant to you but I think it makes it more cohesive.

no not negative at all! i completely understand and even agree - it just would be a lot of extra work to include swatch clips which is why i tried to include photos i had 😅 i’m gonna try my best for the next video though! 🙏 and yes i was actually planning for that to be ILNP!! but yayy i’m glad you’re convinced on those shades, they really are so so pretty I know you’re gonna love them! 🤩🤩

I only just got into indie nail polish (or nail polish at all) and Mooncat was the first I discovered. I've got a lot of the same ones you have, though I'm not a pale pink person, but the shimmers, shines, and flakes, yummmm. Thank you for sharing. I do like favorites videos, because it means people have used the polishes enough to know if the formula works in the 'real world', not just for a swatch.

Love this video! I could listen to you talk about polish all day! 🥰👏🏻💖 Can’t wait to see you go over some other brands! I am also a BIG fan of the getting even nail primer! It is prob my fav I have tried. Last sale I picked up a few backups ☺️, and also of the nail elixir! It is such a good oil! And getting it during the sale makes it seem like such a better value! I’m not going to pick up a ton during the MC sale this time, but for sure I’ll be getting the new Red Magnetic they are launching for the sale. I love Mooncat! They’re always doing something interesting. My top recommendations from this brand (in no particular order) are:
Curiosity’s Prey,
Mercury’s Tears,
Raven,
Abandoned Boardwalks,
Poseidon’s Prize,
Weeping Willow,
Shroomdom,
Strangeberry,
Gates of Hell,
Merekitten and
Midnight Rider.
I also agree about their base and top coats being great and I love their nail oil. Last, I also love the topper Moondust.
totally agree! they have some gorgeous finishes 🤩 you have great recs too! and omg yess i loveeee moondust, but I can’t in good conscious recommend it when i know you can get China Glaze’s Fairy Dust for a fraction of the price 🙈 still gorgeous though lol ✨
I agree with creams being two coater max. If it's reviewed as a 3 coater I won't buy it.

I’ve been tweaking my mooncat wishlist planning ahead for black friday! I’m coveting sand viper, stumped, forbidden cove and haunted forest 🖤 i love their technicolor shades! That collection was my intro to the brand. I got paradise found & neverland. I will probably get sweet nightmare spring/summer if its still around. i collect peris.💜 buuut, my favorites from them so far are flying submarine & poisonberry. Poisonberry is just unreal! And flying submarine is just so cool and scrumptious.
yayy thats awesome! such a great haul 🤩🤩 and omg yeah Neverland is such a great green too!! it really is so hard to pick favs lol. i”m sure Sweet Nightmare will still be around tho, it seems like a popular color! yeah Poisonberry is another pretty one, soo glowy! i wish I liked Flying Submarine more 🙈 but i can’t get rid of it and ruin the rainbow! i wonder if they plan on releasing something to fill that gap 🤔

Moon Fairy is beautiful. I also love the Fool’s Gold topper!
Tectonic Shift is my fave between that and Catfished.

I just now bought my first order of Mooncat (ppg collection, hope I like it) and thought of a video idea (feel free to ignore tho lol). I was trying to find what finishes Mooncat does best, since each brand has different strengths and realized I’ve never seen anyone make a master video for some of the best and worst finishes for different indie/boutique brands (ex- something like holo taco has great glitters but their magnetics are weak, or cirque has great jellies but their holo is lackluster, etc). I thought of it for people trying different brands to just get an idea of finishes a brand does best, since Im new to the indie community and had a hard time finding what’s good from Mooncat now, and bought some meh holo glitter from cirque before. Ik it’s also all about personal preference, but I trust yours:)

I just bought my 1st 3 Mooncat to try - Molten Lava, House of Hades, & Artemis’ Deathkiss. People seem to either love or hate this brand so I’m a little nervous 😂
yayy so exciting, those are beautiful polishes!! and agh yeah it sucks how hit & miss their formulas were for a while, but yours should feel a lot better esp with the new brushes! i think HoH is the only one that has had a disclaimer about getting thicker over time bc of the pigment.
How close are Rue Morgue and The 13th Hour? I have RM but considering 13th for the sale tomorrow.
i can share a comparison in my IG stories after lunch lol, but 13th Hour is like the blue version of Access Denied where its a black base with tiny blue shimmers, but Rue Morgue is a deep sapphire/indigo base with slightly larger shimmer that also shifts to purple. so overall more blue while 13th has more of a black base, similar but not dupes imo!

I love flight of the monarchs, but overall struggle with the formulas from this brand for some reason.
Yeah some of their formulas are a little thick :/ it seems to be hit or miss depending on the batches? I had thought they refined their formulas in recent months, but Michelle confirmed somewhere that they didn’t, that the new brushes are actually what helped with application, so maybe if you have a few other shades you can pick up some replacement brushes to try out?
How does the mooncat speed demon top coat compare to holo taco glossy top coat?
i’ve only recently started using Holo Taco’s but I would say they’re pretty similar in terms of dry time, but Holo Taco feels thinner to me, like its a little less plump than mooncat? but my HT bottle is newer, i havent had to add thinner to it yet.
I contacted customer service about the thicker brush for the creme polish, they sent me a replacement brush which was the new paddle thinner brush that are in the new polishes

There is Serpent's Tongue and Sealed with a Hiss. I don't know if you meant Serpent's Tongue not Serpent's Hiss? I have both of those polishes so caught that (okay - I have 71 Mooncat polishes but who doesn't LOL)...

I think they've discontinued all the chonky holo polishes except BLAME MY STAR SIGN (superclusterfck and i'm a mf supernova are dearly departed).

Kind of annoying that considering you own all of these and considering how drastically different they can be from bottle to nail, you didn't show swatches for all of them. Like you even said, "I can't find my swatch for this" on one of them...but you're holding the bottle right there. 🤔
i didn’t have time to reswatch all of these for this video specifically, but almost all of them do exist on my channel. all the ones i shared I would say have very accurate website photos too if you wanted to go off of those 😊
