How Drones Are Revolutionizing the Economics of War

- Israel and its allies, including the US, UK, and France, managed to mostly foil a massive drone and missile attack by Iran, retaliation for a strike on its consulate in Syria. The unprecedented onslaught showed how much drones have changed war. While worries about Israel’s response and regional escalation increase, one thing is clear: the manufacturing of Iran's Shahed-136 drones has changed the economics of war. Their use by Houthis in the Red Sea and Russia in Ukraine illustrate the new reality, that inexpensive but accurate technology allows anyone who wields it to wreak asymmetrical damage in any theater of war.

Bloomberg’s audaciously saying Israel bombed a building close to Iran’s Embassy? 😅. The reality Israel bombed a annex building of Iran’s Embassy
it was the iranian consulate annex that was adjacent iran's embassy. Not the embassy itself.
@@alt51801 that very silly wording, the embassy was hit, most embassies don't exist on their own but by just renting few room/floor.
that like if the US said in the 90s it didn't attach china embassy but another room inside the building.

That doesn't, in any way, 'hurt' the military industrial complex. They will gladly sell nations $250k air defense missiles for shooting down $20k drones.
Until they respond. The United Kingdom just shot down drones with their lasers making this tactic moot at best.

Nice discussion, btw the building that was bombed next to the Iranian embassy was the iranian consulate.
What do you expect when they started with "Iran's unprecedented attack" lie?
@@YakrifZee Was there a "precedented" attack of such magnitude from Iran?
"Israel hit a building near the Iranian embassy." 😂 😂 😂 wow you gotta be kidding me...
So, in a nutshell, defence companies which make tens of billions of dollars selling weapons would need government promise/money to consider production of cheap drones 👍

It was not a building, it was Iranian consulate targeted by Israeli state terrorism. Don’t mischaracterize and deceive your audience.
What do you expect when they started with "Iran's unprecedented attack" lie?
Wait why is Irans attack labeled as unprecedented?
I think because of the financial damage it costs to Israel as they spent 10 million to take out 4 million in drones. Now they have to wait a while to replenish as they are running out of money as the US hasn't sent money.
Because they’ve never directly attacked Israel before
well for usa and its minions its "unpercedented" for a country to retaliate after getting bombed them or attacking their embassies/consulates
@@xpythonxx7771 what about Israels unprecedented attack on an embassy?
@@AbdullahNaeem-il4bw Can't both be unprecedented?
With this attack, Iran wanted to prove that a country with a history of 75 years cannot attack Iran with a history of 5000 years
the U.S. and israel spent about 1.3 billion dollars on that day with missiles to defend israel... iran probably with those older drone models they used were just in the few millions along with their missiles, that shows how utterly insanely cheap these things are
and the thing is, we still don't know Iran's highest attacking capabilities but now everyone knows Israel's highest defensive capabilities

There was a quite a policy war in DC about decade ago whether to spend hundreds of millions on planes or millions on drones... Planes won at the time and that may have been an error..
It wasn't an error. What you are seeing now are relatively small-scale conflicts. In a conventional war between great powers, you'd be left at a serious disadvantage without combat aircraft, while only relying on cheap drones.

This reminds me of the impact of the longbow during the 100 years war. During one battle the longbow gave the English and advantage over French Knights that were bogged down in the mud. Cheaper weapon system(longbow) had an advantage over the more costly and fewer mounted knight. If I was running an Air Force, I might start considering buying fewer manned jets and spend more money on cheap drones that can be massed produced.

American air forces and their jets and navies have been obsoleted by cheap little Zergling drones. That many other nations can now buy practically infinite amounts of them.
Even without needing a monstrous GDP to fight places like the USA indefinitely with such effective Zergling crafts of low cost for their potential.
The kind of thing that could be made easy to overwhelm and sweep away any number of man operated fighter jet armies and navies with ease of effort and cost.
Where little Zergling crafts can be equipped with extreme explosives and maneuvering abilities to take advantage of their small and light weight size for superior advantages.
Therefore to be able to fly and maneuver faster than any practical man piloted crafts could be made to fly and maneuver.
This would also render any current navies and air forces as extremely easy to completely devour in a short period of time. But with hoards of drone like crafts at cheap cost flying upon them like green flies landing upon dung in waves.
Yet the USA response is that their pride and shame is hurt... That their supposed ultra expensive big maned crafts are now nothing but a barbaric relic in the 21st century. And that they are effectively rendered just another nation by things like the little Zergling drones.
So the USA stutters and say: We will build better man piloted crafts, ships and tanks to try to combat them at better cost effective rates...
Is the microphone bad or is it my speaker?
unfortunately major defense contractors are incapable of selling anything cheap, due to their sheer cost of operation, they would have to downsize their labor force, R&D funding, and tools cost to an unimaginable level to even consider competing with the weapons created for maximum utility, instead of maximum profit
American and allied armaments companies too took huge profits from production. Plus officials also asked for considerable rations.
I wish they'd revolutionize peace.
As long as humans exist that won’t happen
The Iranians were praying for peace I’m sure. 😂
And Putin warned us about it in Munich in 2008. But the U.S. refused to classify drones as subjects of the now defunct INF treaty.
Everybody get your popcorn and sit back and relax and enjoy the show
The Shahed is 136 is based on the Shahed 131 and the Shahed 131 is based on the Kentron ARD 10 drone designed in South Africa in the 80s as an Anti Radiation Drone and the data packs were sold to Iran in 2004.
I am still not sure what's the difference between a kamikaze drone and a self guided missile?
I guess the speed
The drone can relax in the sky, circle the target like a bird before diving to it. Missile can't do that
One can remain stationary the other must be moving constantly
which defense & aerospace company stands to profit the most off this??
Super informative piece
Agree but the last topic. If the governments want to buy military drones or drone defense systems, companies will produce them. To what price is another animal. But they won't overproduce equipment that is not ordered 🤔
Bloomberg is the only Western big news company that still uphold the principle of journalism. I don't always agree with their reporting, but overall they doing great journalism.
yea sure saying israel bombed a building near iran embassy is very very different from saying it bombed the annex of the embassy itself and killing high ranked iraniens a general included
next time if another country bomb the annex usa embassy we will see the title of the video : x country declared war on usa by targeting their embassy killing its innocent people
Oh man
On the long term drones might not change much because armies will adapt to this new threat. Now it's still new and therefore effective.
it would change what functional, for example it might be the drone make tanks just a practice target, or air power redundant or big navy ship just a sitting duck.
we have no idea how drones will change the battlefield but we already can see its success.
Quality have its own quality

Due to war in Ukraine Russia is building it’s own drone industry. Thnx a lot to our enemies and their allies for such chance to get hitech industry in short term
Drones, also known as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), have revolutionized the economics of war in several ways:
Cost-Effective Operations: Drones are generally more cost-effective than traditional military aircraft, reducing the expense associated with manned missions and training pilots. This allows for more frequent and sustained operations without the same level of financial investment.
Risk Reduction for Personnel: By removing the need for human pilots, drones reduce the risk to military personnel. This can impact the long-term costs associated with loss of life, injury, or capture during conflicts.
Enhanced Surveillance and Reconnaissance: Drones provide real-time intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities at a fraction of the cost of manned operations. This improves decision-making and the effectiveness of military strategies.
Iran must be crazy to try the tactics mentioned.
If they do so they there wont be a long time before response
