Mikko Rantanen. The guy turned into a machine of a playmaker once the regular season ended. He made his linemates around him way better all playoff long, but turned it up even more in the finals. The amount of incredible plays he had, and the amount of times he gave his linemates amazing scoring chances just had my jaw on the floor. For me, one of the few irreplaceable lynchpins of the avs cup run.
And Sakic now looks like a god damn genius with the whole Lehkonen trade. I knew he'd be a good, reliable two-way forward with a super high compete level and finals experience, but I sure didn't expect him to just casually add in elite level scoring. @Windows Pinball Boston Bruins, which of course brings me no sympathy and possibly undermines my credibility. When the Avalanche last won the Cup in 2001, I and many other Bruins fans shed more than a few tears. Why? Because of Ray Bourque. I was 9 when he joined the Bruins in 1979, so I have no clear memories of the team before he was there. He was there until a few days after my 30th birthday in 2000. He had been there basically my entire life, and he will always be my favorite player. He asked to be traded, and the Bruins honored his request. I don't know whether it counted as his one day with the Cup, but in June of 2001 Bourque attended a rally in his honor in Boston and brought the Cup with him, after winning it in a different city.

the Avs kinda lucky on that Stanley Cup winning goal : if it doesn't bounce on the defenseman skate, Lekhonen doesn't get it, would Manson have scored? guess we'll never know and I'm quite happy with that

Lightning got lucky on their first and only goal of game 6. It bounced off of Palat’s skate and onto Stamkos’ stick

Was it any "luckier" than the Stamkos goal that won the ECF? If the puck comes out just about anywhere else, it doesn't hit off his leg and end up in the net.
If that doesn't happen, then maybe the Rangers score, force a game 7 at home where they win, and it's a completely different Cup Final. Guess we'll never know.

15:56 can you imagine winning a first round via a sweep. Jokes aside, props to the Leafs, they took the Bolts to seven, not even "cup-contender" New York could do that. Hope we can get a 4-0 Avalanche sweep of the leaves next year xD

I always ask the same question at the end of the year, but I would be curious to know the amount of painkillers players had in their vein by the 3rd game of the final. I think the answer would surprise us, and show a huge issue in the NHL that we should focus on..

I think Johnson being the first person handed the cup should've made it to hat picks. From first overall to a long career, almost retiring, getting through some years on bad teams, he finally got his moment with the cup. Special stuff.

We need more love for the Hedman goal song! I had goosebumps when I heard it was "when the spirits are calling my name" in Swedish, that song is a national treasure and was our winner in the national version of Eurovision. Later it didn't go so well in the big competition but people should hear it, it's called "När vindarna viskar mitt namn" and it's a really good song! Loved hearing it in amalie arena!

You can have 7 guys on the ice if 2 are within 5 feet of the boards at the bench, and their replacements coming on the ice don’t play the puck till the first two guys are off. That is legal and exactly what happened. Kadri was 40 feel off the bench playing the puck with the player he was changing with, Mackinnon, still on the ice. Not even close to being comparable. Still, Kadri made an unbelievable move to score and the Av’s were the better team.

      "Hello darkness my old friend"
Every passing year, Joe Sakic looks more and more like a genius, and that trade was his best. I honestly think that is why MacK transformed into the animal he is today. Before they got him, Duchene was supposed to be the guy they built the team around. Then it was kind of up in the air between him and MacK (seems ridiculous looking back). I think MacK knew the trade was about to happen and knew that it was finally his team. I think that took a huge weight off his shoulders. That game against Vegas 10 days before the trade is when something switched on in MacKinnon. In my mind Sakic fleeced Ottawa and the Preds, and while Bowen Byram and Sam Girard are huge, the biggest win in that trade was the message to MacKinnon that this was his team.
