    I honestly didn't realize Mikko Lehtonen was a real hockey player. I just assumed you combined Mikko Rantanen and Lehkonen into a single super Finnish player. It happens.
    Also, there have been many TV announcers call Logan O'Connor, MacKinnon throughout the year. 25 can look like 29 if you're not paying attention, and there are times that LOC is skating like a madman. That's an easy mistake that many have made before.

    I used to volunteer for a local hockey club to do arena announcing. This was in the pre-net days of hockey, and teams would often have a disclaimer announced - usually at the start of the first period. In this case, the first stoppage.
    It was a long winded thing that basically said "Fans are urged to pay attention to the ice surface throughout the contest. , their agents, directors, employees and representatives assume no responsibility or liability for injuries suffered from pucks leaving the playing surface."
    I did this so many times.... dozens. Scores. Excepting for that oooooone time where I did not, for whatever reason, say "pucks" but another word that sounds remarkably similar.
    Thankfully, the rink had the usual crappy municipal rink sound system, because nobody said anything to me about it.

    • @reaganharder1480
      @reaganharder1480 2 года назад +3

      Honestly every hockey game I've been to (which granted, has only been WHL games) has had that announcement, even with the netting. It's just good practice, even with the most dangerous paths netted off, there's still a chance of a dangerously fast puck coming over the side boards.

    1) I'm old enough to remember when "The Wave" first became a thing, and I've always hated it and refused to participate. I was only in my teens, but people thought I was behaving like an old man or a "stick in the mud."
    2) One of the things I dislike about TV in general is that the understandable desire to have everything perfect makes the product boring. People saying funny things, unplanned occurrences, and even mistakes make it more interesting. For example, most sports intermission reports are so boring I turn off the TV, but I'll watch Paul Bissonnette (Biz Nasty) on TNT because he's entertaining. And so are you, Steve Dangle. I don't watch any other highlight videos where the host gets more airtime than the highlights. I think I heard some podcast say their motto is "sports are fun."

    Remember in the era before the "Coaches Challenge" when a coach could just, you know, ask the refs to take a look at it? Why is that no longer a thing?
    If the idea is "to get the call right" as the NHL claims, why is it entirely on the coaches shoulders to make the judgement of what is or isn't reviewable at this extremely high-risk of his team ending up shorthanded.
    Things like offside or a play that should've resulted in a stoppage a minute prior should definitely be relegated to a challenge, but why do you need to 'challenge' whether the goal itself should count? I thought the point was to cover weird stuff that isn't 'normally' reviewable, not to completely negate the standard review process.

      Don’t necessarily disagree, but the fact is there are automatic video reviews of all goals. Here is a list of what the off-ice video review official automatically looks at (according to the rule book, anyway):
      (a) Puck crossing the goal line;
      (b) Puck in the net prior to the goal frame being dislodged;
      (c) Puck in the net prior to (or after) the expiration of time at the end of a
      period;
      (d) With the use of a foot/skate, was a “distinct kicking motion” evident?
      (e) Puck deliberately directed, batted, or thrown into the net by an
      attacking Player by any means (and with any part of his body) other
      than with his stick;
      (f) Puck deflected directly into the net of an On-Ice Official;
      (g) Puck struck or deflected into the net with a high-stick, above the height
      of the crossbar;
      (h) Puck entering the net in a proper manner through goal mouth (ensuring
      puck did not enter net improperly through net meshing or underneath
      the net frame, etc.);
      (i) Puck entering the net as the culmination of a continuous play where the
      result of the play was unaffected by any whistle blown by the Referee upon his losing sight of the puck; and
      (j) The legitimacy of all potential goals on Penalty Shot or Shootout attempts to ensure compliance with applicable rules (e.g., double tap, goalkeeper throwing stick, goalkeeper dislodging goal, shooter cradling puck above the normal height of the shoulders, shooter performing illegal spin-o-rama move, skater’s continued forward advancement of puck, goalkeeper leaving crease prior to puck touch at center ice, etc.)
      In addition, “In the final minute of play in the 3rd Period and at any point in Overtime (Regular Season and Playoffs), the NHL Situation Room will initiate the review of any scenario that would otherwise be subject to a Coach’s Challenge.”

    I'm pretty sure it was not actually Steve saying the wrong name, but actually it was the hockey gods who wanted to give a shoutout to Mikko Lehtonen for winning both Olympic and World Championship gold this year despite starting the season in Cleveland Monsters of all places, and therefore took over Steve's speech center for a brief moment. So instead of calling it a dang-it, I think 'miracle' would be the more appropriate word.

    TL;DR Steve called Artturi Lehkonen “Lehtonen” during game 2 of the Habs/Lightning final last year and I’m the only person in existence that knows this.
    I know I’m late to the party. But I’d like to bring this to the class’ attention. Steve, this isn’t the first time you’ve called Artturi by the wrong name. Nor the first time you’ve called him Lehtonen. It happened last year during Watch the Stanley Cup Finals with Steve Dangle. Game 2. Exactly halfway through the second period. Sergachev lays a hit on him and during the replay, a little slip of the tongue where Steve says “Lehtonen” rather than “Lehkonen”. How do I “remember” this, you ask? I just so happened to be re-watching Steve’s stream of game 2 and it caught my ear 😂 so, in conclusion, are we SURE we can call this an accident if this has happened before?

    Kuch does that kinda stuff all the time going by my eyes. He's just so good he has to do it a few straight shifts for Coop to take away his ice time. They became champs when he mostly eliminated it in the playoffs.

      Yeah it’s something that he’s consistently done, but has improved over the years. I see it as a potential play that he sees and either has inherent risk or he misplays. And he either has become more selective with it or begun executing just a bit better.

    Whenever Darnell Nurse has a Dang-It you should call it a “DARN-IT” or say “If youre a Nurse, Nurse the puck!” and if he ever has a hat-pick can you please consider saying “HELLO NURSE!!” like they did on Animaniacs.

    The challenge rule as it stands now is fantastic. It's in place to overturn obvious errors, not the 50/50, or the wishful thinking, or the let's examine every little pixel play. You should get every opportunity to challenge whatever you want and you should get the opportunity to get punished for it. I wish the NFL had a rule like that.

    • @randalldoane6708
      @randalldoane6708 2 года назад

      I couldn't agree more. I'd love to see the NFL institute something like: If the team on offence fails a challenge it's a 10 yard penalty and loss of a down. If the Defense fails a challenge it's a 10 yard penalty and automatic 1st down for the offence. Depending on the situation, that could hurt a lot more than losing a timeout and hopefully stop the 10 minute frame-by-frame reviews.

    It's one thing to let Draisaitl play injured. Guy had 30+ points playing on one leg. And other thing is to let Nurse play, overpaid D-man, who's game wasn't great even in regular season and who's play often lead to easy goals for the opposing team. I know, they are professional players and much better in hockey than regular average Joe, but sometimes they should evaluate their health and performances and Nurse should definitively do it and let someone else play.

    Steve looks off camera during the Mikko call cause he knows Hat Guy is just staring at him beweildered. Also, the REAL Dang-It on that play was VETERAN Duncan Keith engaging Arturi off face-off and then has a disconnected controller moment and totally loses his guy. Finally a Dang-It hat has to be Hard Hat.
