Eddie's death was really quite tragic, It was talked about in a show called Dark Side of the Ring during an episode talking about another wrestler Chris Benoit. Chavo Guerrero (Eddie's uncle) starts by saying that Eddie would pass out in the middle of a conversation they were having and found out that this happened in other situations as well. After checking in at the hotel they were staying in at Minneapolis, Chavo got a call from the front desk in the morning saying that something was wrong with Eddie and a security guard says that he didn't answer his wake up call. They go to his room and Chavo finds Eddie face down in the bathroom as if he was about to brush his teeth and he shakes him and cleanes his face and Eddie is just gurgling and passes in Chavo's arms. He was 38
There were two Chavos, one was Eddie's cousin, and the other (his son, the WWE wrestler) was Eddie's nephew. Neither were his uncle.
@@Undivided-XOlder Chavo was Eddie's eldest brother, not cousin. Their age difference was just so vast that Eddie was basically the same age as Chavo Jr
Say no to drugs.
I think that Dr. Mik would understand so much more if he brings a wrestler to analyze the injuries together! He would explain what's scripted, what's not, when they know they have stop, etc.
Maven Huffman?
Simon Miller?
Mike and Maven, we need it
I'd call in another doctor, Doctor Stevie!
@@Whirlpool730 Mave would be a great collaboration!
The worst part between Edge and Christian is they’re actually childhood best friends. I can just imagine Edge felt so bad for actually hurting him.
they all get actually hurt. You can attempt to mitigate damage but these guys' bodies take an extreme beating. Doctor Mike should react to their medical records/ surgeries
Hi
Ouch
Yeah, the trick with the chair moves is to hit the lip of the chair on the other lip, and miss the guys head completely. It'll be really close, but your goal is to miss the guys head. I think with Edge being on the ladder, not having the right angle, etc caused him to miss the chair shot in the worst way possible.
The funny part is that Edge in real life is married to Beth Phoenix who accidentally injured Candice Michelle. And Beth Phoenix is a very real life muscular and tough woman ( former amateur wrestler).
I love the guy who lost the top half of his ear. His sense of humor about an injury that would give many people body image issues, not to mention how bad it must've hurt. S tier.
You can see him just straight up punching the other guy after that, and honestly don't blame him.
"The guy...."???? Holy hell, what have we become?
@@jasonnoble3971 Old. We've become Old.
"The guy" has a name, a most legendary name.
I'd love to see Dr. Mike review one of the most infamous matches of all time. The Hell in the Cell, Undertaker vs Mankind. The fight literally stopped for medical reasons at one pt.
Doctor appointment
He looked at that moment in his first WWE injuries video
The weird thing about pro wrestling is that because it's dismissed as "not real" the performers often feel like they want to try harder to be "tough" and as it's not a traditional sport there isn't really any mandatory doctor stoppage.
They are actors. The only time an actor wants to break character while filming is intentional 4th wall breaks. It's more that because people want to think it is entirely fictional, the injuries that are suffered are also fictional.
There have been matches called off due to medical reasons both kayfabe and real
They do have ringside medics, and they do their best, like in an MMA fight, to decide how bad an injury is. For better or worse, they're not really supposed to get injured at all, but considering the contact, they're not getting their heads knocked in like in boxing or MMA, and that means you can't always see the injuries if there's not broken skin or something bent the wrong way or nobody seemed concussed.
regardless of real or not, it's crazy to me how we call what is essentially peole beating each other up (sometimes to life threatening deegree) a "sport".
@@koutsioj4762 well I hate sports and violence, so it's a surprise even to myself how into wrestling I am
1:18 This match took place in Germany under WCW. The other wrestler, Vader, wasn't the only factor playing into Mick's ear getting ripped off. They had previously done a maneuver where Mick tumbles over the top rope and gets his head/neck twisted up between the 2nd and 3rd ropes. At that point he's hanging on the outside of the ring with extreme pressure on the sides of his neck. Another wrestler had complained that the "ropes" (WCW used elevator cables covered in rubber) were too loose and had been tightened earlier in the evening, now causing Mick to become trapped and begin passing out. He (rightfully) panicked and managed to push his head through the ropes. Tearing his right ear most of the way off in the process. Regardless of whether he knew it or not at the time (he didn't), on with the match.
Kofi Kingston has actually stated that his pectoral malformation has been lifelong issue, even seen in his early Jamaican days, this is just how his chest looks, which I can confirm as I have a similar issue
0:45 bro got the spongebob elbow
I recently started watching Vice’s docu-series Dark Side of the Ring and though I’ve never had any interest in pro wrestling, it’s definitely given me a lot of insight into the controversies and darker aspects of wrestling. If anything, it’s at least allowed me to recognize more of these people instead of just knowing the “big ones” ie Undertaker, Stone Cold, John Cena, etc.
I like the fact that there are always more views than comments on the video itself. By the way, keep up the good work on your videos, Dr. Mike!
The injury in the women’s clip was basically because one of them got mad in the middle of the match and decided to purposely injure the other. That kind un unprofessional behavior happens often in Mexican wrestling.
You can make a whole video with horrific stuff happening there. Years ago one wrestler even threw a cinder block at the back of the head of his opponent 😬
Yup it's called "shooting" which is a big no no and instant firing if not being sued
How very "surprising" that ppl in that sport struggle with emotional regulation (-_-#)
@@KxNOxUTAactually those who go into these types of sports aren't angry people and therapists recommend people with anger issues take on like boxing, wrestling all that cuz it helps and they learn to control their anger this was just an instance of someone taking it too far for no reason and rightfully lost their career over it
there was a match like this between Act Yakusawa and Yoshiko that was just brutal and for a time career ending
The wrestler who refused to let go during the submission has been blacklisted from essentially every wrestling promotion due to her actions
3:06 Fun fact Dr.! The conchairto is still performed to this day *however* it now is done by slamming the tip of the chair onto the other end of the chair, gives the same effect of hitting the person on the head without actually giving them... Ya know... brain damage... Its often used to writing people off TV for a while.
1:07 I was drinking my Pepsi when I saw this 😭
i have never heard a more sad thing in my whole life
The worst part about the undertaker getting burned, was that he told the guy who was doing his pyro that it was too close to him, but he said it was fine. The undertaker said he wasn’t there when he got backstage, and he never saw him again. Hopefully he got fired.
0:15 (i immediately change my arm position)
Number one was my favourite video from you and now that you made a part two makes me happy, plus I'm learning lots from you man, thanks so much dude🙏🙏, and you reacting to tap out is amazing, I also love that dude
Two things, first, Rest In Peace Eddie, you will be missed, and second, Dr. Mike since we are doing sports injuries, why not try Rodeo Injuries
in 3:34 , usually wrestlers stay in there place and accept there fate , but the undertaker was fast and got away just in time , one of many reasons undertaker is my favorite wrestler
You talking about the incarcerated bowel with no blood flow reminds me of an emergency surgery I needed in February. Turns out I had a 10cm teratoma that caused an ovarian and fallopian tube torsion. I'd love for you to cover this in a video! My husband still doesn't understand the incredible pain I was in and how serious it could have been had I not gone to the hospital when I did. I had to have surgery on a Monday morning instead of being on a plane to Vegas for vacation with him. And holy mackerel, the pain AFTER surgery was worse than the pain before surgery. The pain you're in from how they position you on the OR table, the pain from the gas they inject into your abdomen and even the neck pain from being intubated is crazy! I felt like someone pushed me down a concrete staircase and then beat my whole body with a metal baseball bat! They pulled the teratoma out through an incision right below my bellybutton and I never knew your bellybutton could hurt so bad!!
Ouch glad you gotten it taken care of
@@Chuck_EL Thank you! 😊 It's kind of crazy to be just be living normal life one minute (getting ready for vacation) and then all of a sudden be in horrible pain and end up needing emergency surgery. I'm so glad it's all behind me! It's just crazy how things can turn on a dime! It was a good lesson to be thankful when you're healthy!
@@SamanthaLeigh7 you're welcome 😁
@bzyspecial that's not funny
Does it hurt to poop now?
7:19 Doctor Mike: That’s not *that* cool 😂
As a WWE fan since the late 90s, i always love these type of videos, btw sidenote, if a superstar has a legitimate, the referee will throw up a X, letting EMTs know hey we got a real injury over here
I have the same heart condition that Eddie Guerrero had, though it wasn’t steroids in my case, it was working physical 58 hour weeks for 24 years while being a moderate smoker - I have since stopped smoking, I’m on medication for the rest of my life and I still get breathless just going up a few flights of stairs sometimes - we really do need to look after our bodies since none of us are invincible
New fears unlocked
The "conchairto" on the top of the ladder probably would've been fine on the ground. Edge wasn't high enough on the ladder to get the right angle of the chair shot to hit the chair behind Christian's head rather than his head itself. Brutal move that is rough to get just right.
I think the One Man Con-Chair-to is normally one of the safer chair shots to take because of how easy it usually is to hide the fact you're not hitting them in the head. What usually happens is that they smash the tip of the chair they're holding into the chair under the head or the mat. And you can tell their head is not on the chair by how much chair you can see. But in the case of this clip, Christian's head was resting on a chair which was resting on a ladder. That is probably what caused it. It's more common for someone to get hit in the shoulder than they are to take a shot to the head because they aren't lying flat.
Great job doctor Mike! Love your vids!
Mick Foley would be happy that you actually laughed at his joke.
As someone who got a severe 2nd degree burn in their one eyed snake area from boiling water im impressed dude was still standing from having bubbling skin
LMFAOOOOOOOOO👁️🐍💀💀💀
I feel like Mick Foley’s injuries history can be one whole video itself, man has gone through lots of dangerous spots
I was sitting ringside for some of those injuries. I remember the first time he broke his back. Having scoliosis myself, the sound of a vertebrae snapping was one you really don’t forget.
Explains alot about my elbow, thanks Dr Mike
10:17 "Why would you wanna hurt another performer?" That's kindda the point of wrestiling Mike...💀💀💀
That point isn't to actually go out of your way to injury somebody 😂
Around 6:20, I'm pretty sure Kofi Kingston was born without those muscles instead of either steroid use or harmed throughout his career
Dr Mike has the best reactions to this disgusting stuff
I would love to see you react to hockey injuries!
I grew up watching them and loving their matches and I gotta say, it's a fricking miracle that Edge & Christian and the Hardy Boys are still able to wrestle today, after all the high risk stunts they pulled back in the day and all the injuries they had
Thanks for a very good and detailed explanation❤
I don't know if you know this but somebody died in the ring From the ladder
Who are you talking about I don't remember that. Owen hart died in the ring but he fell while kinda flying into to ring on a rope.
I kinda wish Mike would look at non-WWE Wrestling spots/injuries mostly because of morbid curiosity because the stuff they do is sometimes much more dangerous than WWE
"Why would you want to hurt another performer?"
Backstage grievances spilling out into the ring. Also, you've yet to see *the* worst in-ring injury (that didn't result in death) - Sid Vicious' 2nd-rope standing kick, in which he landed wrong and suffered a compound fracture, breaking *both* tibia and fibula.
12:19 I’m a healthcare professional with a macabre interest in the anatomy/phys behind these injuries, so most of it is just part of the gig. But man, nothing can make me pucker quite like watching a muscle bunch up after one of the tendons tears, especially the pecs or biceps. UGH. 😭
Doctor Mike should go through the Magnum Opus of Mick Foley. A man whose body went through so much hell. You could have a diagram of Mick and every body part that sustained an injury and what years they happened in.
@DoctorMike, I commented on your other wrestling injury video, but will here also. You should watch the Undertaker and Mick Foley video where they discuss their infamous match where Mich gets launched off the cage, then later slammed through it. Worth a watch!
To explain the conchairto (The move edge hit christian with ontop of the ladder)
The move is normally don while the opponent is laying down and you are standing over them, you swing the chair in a way that the tip of the chair you are swinging hits the edge of the other chair (Creating the loud boom) without causing physical damage to the opponent (Some ringing in the ears aside)
Ontop of the ladder edge was unable to angle the chair in order to do this so he ended up hitting christian in the side and back of the head due to this
This spot is a major problem as the only way to make it work would be for edge to move further up the ladder. which could lead to both of them falling unexpectedly etc.
Yoo u never dissapoint its always entertaining to watch you!
The armbar incident involving the woman resulted in sexy star (the woman who put the arm bar on Rosemary) becoming blackballed from the business. Rule number one is you always take care of your opponent! This is my area of expertise but I greatly appreciate yours
W - Woah,
W - Wow,
E - Emergency!
Not me watching this shut about the elbow whilst leaning on my elbow💀
3:00 since WWE’s inception, up until Chris Benoit incident (partially or fully caused by the huge amount of CTE caused by flying headbutts and chair shots), the chairshot to the head was as normal as taking a stomp to the head on the steps, or a punch lol
Need to see you react to Joey Mercury's injury at Armageddon 2006 or any of Shane McMahon's injuries, there's a lot of them
Dr Mike the Undertaker ALONE could be his own episode
For the chair slam on the ladders, he was supposed hit the chair under his head at a 45⁰ angle, but looks like it didn't hit properly and his head got hit more than it should've of
Speaking of someone who refrains from pain medicine, I've lived of a similar mindset but potentially for different or the same reasons.
Being taught pain was my friend helped me avoid hurting something worse or getting hurt to begin with. So in such a serious case I guess it could be some degree of sense to always know if something is bothering a dangerous injury like a skull fracture over blanketing it with pain medications and have the risk of pushing it to what the drug says, not what your body says.
I only use pain medication if I actually really need it.
I rarely get injured, but do get my fair share of bruises from bumping into every surface in my house. (Which I don't put ice on, I let them heal on their own.)
I never used pain medication for when one of the tips of my thumbnails (Halfway down the nail) actually shattered from the impact of taking off a seatbelt. (I had no idea a seatbelt could do that, but technically it's a tight space and in the right circumstances if the metal part collides with your thumbnail hard enough your fingernail can shatter.)
Sure, it was painful at first but it got bearable after a few hours. Yes, the nail healed well.
Long story short, BE AWARE OF TAKING OFF SEATBELTS!
Love the wrestling injuries, I would love you to keep doing these!
Couple of months ago I completely tore my MPFL but now it is doing good:) and I am 14 lol so it felt great….
9:44 isn't WWE
These videos always make me shiver from how uncomfortable it makes me feel
Mick Foley was such a beast . Please make a video just on Micks injuries
Sam needs a raise, Doc😂 he's working hard with these edits.
I always forget that people can injure their knee caps.. Like I have various knee issues including unstable knee caps (Never caused any sort of problems) but the last thing you would think someone would say when they hurt their knee that they have a loose knee cap
The two worst pains i uave ever felt are as follows: being burned, and being cut. I have burned myself so bad i needed special medicine rubbed on and cut so bad i felt light headed. Being burned is much worse as the pain lingers for longer
I would love to see mike review the kengan ashura injuries
omg yeah dr mike j unlocked a memory of mine i used to have a lazy eye when i was younger and acc got strabismus surgery when i was 13!
An a person who has torn her patella ligament and actually chipped off a piece of my kneecap. I can say that is a pain you never want to feel
That Olecranon Bursa is yhe bane of my life. Swelling comes and goes regularly. I'm a programmer, sit at a desk. Looks horrible but doesn't really hurt until it kinda pushes on the nerves.
2:02 nom nom
Sexy Star, the woman who held that armbar, immediately got stripped of her title and is basically blacklisted. Years later, she tried to blame Rosemary, saying she wasn't actually hurt. Luckily, Rosemary didn't suffer any long-term damage.
One of the rules of pro wrestling is to protect your opponent. There’s a long history of animosity between these competitors and lots of times they hurt their opponents for real.
I am all over my bed squirming oh my god. I hope they all stay safe this was so painful to watch I can't imagine living it
"This can happen to people who lean-" *immediately stops leaning*
The same elbow injury happened to me and yeah, just a little bit of time and went away
3:35 out of every injury possible, a hernia is not what I thought would happen
Umbilical Hernia is a new fear that I have now unlocked.
I misheard "We send it for Scientology". You had me worried there Mike!
8:30 huh I wonder why he's not making sure that those brain cells to keep the left arm tough sense not using it. It's like he's focused on something else... ;) if you know what I'm sayin'
"why would you do that to your fellow wrestler" well let me tell you something about wrestler ego's. This case was "a shoot wrestling" where she went "business for herself" and decided to really attack the opponent. It's not adviced in the industry because it usually gets you blacklisted from everything, but back in territory days it wasnt uncommon that people would legit injure people out of the profession they didnt like or got in their way.
I have a bursa on my knee that is very painful. Injured just kneeling down on a piece of wood, 10 years still not healed.
He should just do an entire video of Mick Foley injuries because he would be impressed by how Mick is still walking
Me when a head injury comes up: “HAR HAR HAR HAR HAR HAR HAR HAR HAR HAR!”
Please do rugby!! There have been some gruesome injuries in rugby since it is a high contact sport. And a whole lot of cauliflower ear!! I play rugby and would love to know the common injuries and extremes! Thank dr mike❤
Lacrosse too!
Honestly the chairshot one is because usually that trick is done with one standing and one lying on the floor, and they're basically hitting the ground next to them at an angle to make it LOOK like they're getting their head hit.
They didn't account for the fact Edge was standing lower on a ladder so he'd be swinging at a different angle.
Bro just flicked us off 4:46
The amount of drops I have seen where a lifeless drop was the only reason a person survived would contradict Mikes statement.
It is amazing how much you now about medical things.❤the videos
I was hoping Dr. Mike would explain Triple H's quad tear back in 2001.
Yea headshots with chairs are banned now because of concussions. I've worked in indy wrestling for 10 years as a photographer. Ive been lucky not to witness a major injury but thats because wrestling is trained falling. They rarely hit their heads when they fall unless they fall wrong which happens. The trained falls still hurt but its mostly focused on the back muscles when falling back and the force of front blows is spread out by sprawling the body out a bit so its not direct force on the wrists or knees.
This guy is so awesome, with all this great content, I had to watch this one twice. Not sure if he will ever see this comment but " Good morning, Dr. MIKE. Stay safe out there. "
do more basketball injuries! It would really make my day!
0:21 Small sack
I haven't watched wrestling in a long time, but i still respect wrestlers for how much they put themselv a through.
The death of Eddie was tragic and rocked the wrestling industry and fans across the world.
Everyone knows that Eddie not only has used steroids but had battled addiction. Which was something he eventually became known for in fighting against in wrestling and making known that it was prevalent and advocated on cleaning up wrestling entertainment.
This is what made his passing so tragic.
That after going through so much and becoming a voice for so much good..he passed away because of the after effects of such abuses to his body.
Yooo he is watching tap out corner I love his channel
These guys always manage to get the most nieche and brutal injuries. “Bellybutton hernia” is one wild ass injury
I'd love to see Maven Huffman on here one day to go into the technical/mechanical side of some of the moves wrestler's do so that they can dig more into which moves are actually causing injury and what actually happens/goes wrong in order for injuries to occur, like the con-chair-to between Edge and Christian, for example.
I always thought they just hit the edge of the other chair with the concerto, I didn't think they actually hit the guy lying down on the head since headshots were banned
Dr. Mike, please do a video on AEW, more specifically, Darby Allin. what he puts his body through is insance, but incredible
Fun fact, I knew someone who had the surname "Patella" and that person loved to joke about it.
The top two wrestlers I respect for finishing a match with major injuries are Mark Calaway (undertaker) and Mick Foley
