As much as the last Blues goal that ruined MacKinnon's goal was a punch in the gut, I could only imagine how much that Helm goal with 5 seconds left hurts.
I was at the game on Friday and yeah it sucked big time.
It was also my first playoff hockey game so really not fun.
The air left my body when they scored with 5 left. No hockey fan in St. Louis got any sleep on Friday
The 10 minutes of cleaning the hats up gave the Blues the opportunity to regroup.
That goal by MacKinnon and the Makar OT winner on Flower earlier in the goal are my two candidates for goal of the year.
Mcdavid rangers goal
As a blues fan that goal by the avs with 5 seconds left was the most painful I’ve experienced. It’s not the loss it’s how they lost. I wasn’t even mad I was stunned I was like ok it’s going to over….wtf! Good luck though avalanche their a good team and have owned the blues unfortunately
Yea Avs have been terrible match up for Blues in recent years, but I do think they would have made final 4 if they played Oilers or Flames instead, problem is they would still have to face Colorado regardless, but when u think 🤔 Abt it Blues might be the deepest team in a way, you guys had like 8 or 9 20+ goal scorers, which is just ridiculous, wish my Caps had that kinda depth.
@@sandrisposeika2921 blues have the team on paper just couldn’t get it done. Colorado wanted it more. But to be the best you gotta beat the best which had me like gotta face Colorado anyways might as well do it early

That Helm winner had huge Uwe Krupp in the stanley cup vibes. A journeyman role player who barely scores seals a series with a game winning goal, just incredible.
Leon draisaitl was on pace for 279 points in a 82 game season from the battle of Alberta series alone.
During that 1:11 madness Leon was on pace for 8315 points/assists in an 82 game season. And Bouch and Hymes each on pace for 4157 goals.

its crazy to think were about to see MacKinnon and McDavid 2 of the fastest and strongest skaters around go head to head were going to see some amazing highlights

being a wings fan i knew exactly where he was. Helm is a great depth player, great speed.
Chytil is player who keeps having so much potential and its so good to see him play big in big games.
The oilers and rangers have the hardest path so far, if either of them make it to the finals they deserve to win it all

Dude the oilers went through LA and CAL, I’d argue only Calgary is a threat out of those. I would say Tampa bay and New York have had the toughest paths thus far, and will now face eachother for king of the east.

Oilers vs. Avs have the potential to be a total wild west shootout, while thr Rangers vs. Lightning series have the potential to be a major goalie duel. Expect plenty more Hat Picks.

Anyone can be stopped. Hull and Mikita were stopped. Lemieux and Jagr were stopped. Phil Esposito and Orr were stopped as were other great combos. The Avs have players that can make their lives more difficult - especially MacKinnon with his blinding speed. Centers are difficult to shadow, but a good defensive winger can shadow and make life difficult for his opposite.
I've seen this happen for over 50 years.
It will prove to be a very, very interesting series.
Darren Helm did that because he's old and he wanted to go home and get some sleep. "OT? Not on my watch. I'm tired."

The Edmonton vs Calgary series was amazing! Watched every game! It had more action than cheesy 90's Holyrood blockbusters staring overly muscular men with weird one liners.

As a Red Wings fan who has a Helm jersey, I was very well aware that he now played for our old rivals the Avs. Good for him though, he's a grinder who makes his presence felt on the ice, but usually not on the scoresheet. Happy for him, and right now I hope he wins another cup, even if it's for the hated Avs.
The McKinnon goal looks like Pavel Datsyuk flying through Nashville Predators about 2012ish!
I'm an Uber driver and a die hard Avs fan. If I can't watch the game because I'm working, I listen to it on the radio. I was parked in a Safeway parking lot while I was taking a break and when Helm scored I got out of the car and ran around screaming LET'S GO AAAAAAVS! No shame lol

Those 15 goals in elimination games puts Kreider in some pretty good company. Also with 15: Jaromir Jagr, Maurice "The Pocket Rocket" Richard, Gil Perrault, and Justin Williams. The all time leader, Mark Messier, with 16. I'm tempted to break my rule about not saying, "I told you so," and text some Ranger fans I've argued with over the years about trading or keeping Chris.

Darren Helm is 35 years old. If scoring a game winner in the playoffs at 35 is impressive, look up Mark Recchi's goal from the 2011 playoffs where he scored a game winner for Boston at FOURTY THREE (43) years old!
Literally all the Avs need to do is shut down Draisaitl and McDavid. Do that, and our depth scoring will take over.

I remember when Chytil couldn't speak English and was bouncing between the minors and the NHL. David Quinn, who I did not like as the head coach (who hires a guy with almost no experience as a head coach from outside the organization when you've got a future hall of fame head coach already behind the bench as an assistant coach?) took Chytil under his wing, and literally out to breakfast every day to build his confidence. Chytil has been a favorite of mine since then, and he continues to be a great player.
And shut you flippin' mouth about trading Krieder! NOBODY gets Krieder, you understand? He's a lifer. He'll play his entire career as a Ranger, and when he's done, there's a good chance that they'll hang his number up there next to the like of Gilbert and Hadfield. So just stop talking about trading Krieder.
Also, I'm looking forward to joining you in telling Igor Shesterkin, the new King of New York, that as a goaltender, he needs to "TEND THE GOAL!"

Paryko helped throw that Game 6. Husso was trash 90% of the playoffs, but we made a good push against a team who everyone thought would roll us. Was a good series.
Except in Game 2 of the semi finals against the Av's.
Amazing the Rangers missed the playoffs last season now in final 4, yes programs can be turned around fast, Lou L in 2nd season there for the Islanders in final 4 ( actually 2 years in a row) last season and then you have a certain team still looking for the 2nd round in too long…
