The Ovi - Sid debate is fun, but it's also really weird because those two are really not comparable. They play entirely different games on the ice. Ovi is Ovi and Sid is Sid, and neither plays like the other. Other than both being hockey players (and forwards, and captains), it feels like apples and oranges.
I hate him on the ice obviously but I have a deep respect for Crosby's game (as a Caps fan if it wasn't clear). He has incredible skill and only a fool would think otherwise. His skill set is completely different than Ovi's though. It's a bit like comparing a defenseman to a goalie (to a lesser degree, naturally). There's never going to be a clear answer and I've resolved to just appreciating them both for what they do.

    • @Finetales

Ovechkin is nearly at 780 goals..sitting at 3rd all-time in goals.
Ovechkin as an individual; beat Sid to death with the softest pillow in the world. Crosby has had the better teams; which helped pave Sids amazing Playoff Career. I dunno, personally I think it's more impressive that it's done in the first 50 games, with a cold start. Seems to be a harder task to accomplish too, with guys at a higher skill level seem to have been the ones to accomplish the feat... Gretzky, Hull, Lemieux... There's also the excitement of what the player will do with the rest of the season after such a start and now that they have the ball rolling and line chemistry firing for the end of the season stretch. There's a reason a classic 50 in 50 is such a rare feat.
Matthews run is still an impressive feat, but the list of guys who have also done it get much longer once you change it to be 50 goals in ANY 50 game stretch. Nobody is saying Matthews isn't as good as Charlie Simmer, Cam Neely or Alexander Mogilny. But it's not QUITE the same as the short list of guys who managed to get themselves and their line going right out of the gate, notching 50 goals by the 50th game of the season.

I mean, considering every time i hear someone talk about Norris votes they ALWAYS bring up Josi in the context of "no one talks about him enough" ....i feel like people are talking about him enough lol

It's so hard being a Devils fan and knowing what they're capable of, but they can't seem to find any consistency.

I’m not a Preds fan, but Josi is filthy. So is Barkov. I guess they’re not underrated, but they def don’t get enough shine

This is nothing against Sidney Crosby, who I don’t think we can really call the kid anymore, but he’s a legend of the game and will go down in the conversation with guys like Yzerman, Messier, Lemieux and whoever you got that’s prolific both as a playmaker and assist man who can also put it in the net when they need to, except one or two… However, the conversation with Ovie is Howe, Gretzky, Jagr, Hull, Dionne. I mean, nobody is Gretzky but in a time where goalies are not kicking at pucks on their feet while flailing around meaninglessly hoping it hits them, he’s as close as we’re going to get from a goal scorer, and honestly I think he’s better than Gretzky as a goal scorer. I don’t even know if Crosby gets to 600 goals, I’d bet he may… but if Ovi plays another 5 years he’s likely going to pass Gretzky and 900. I don’t doubt he could do 1000. Steve Yzerman only has 63 more assists than that. He’s already the only player in history to score more goals than assists and finish with at least 1400 points. He’s gonna pass Jagr’s 766 in goals in 500 less games. Assists are nice but they’re absolutely nowhere near as valuable as goals in most peoples minds, especially when you consider secondary ones… and nobody has ever done it better in that department as far as I’m concerned… especially given the level of defensive and goaltending excellence we’ve seen in the last 20 years. Unreal.

Sid was on an absolute mission that game, two of the three goals and an assist on the other. Crosby's Really turned it on at the end of the season which is impressive considering no camp because of wrist surgery and missing games because of COVID and sickness.
