    A7rIII seems to be the best value camera now for purely photography. I plan to buy it early summer (upgrade from my canon 80D) with the sony 20-70 f4 G lens in addition with the great pancake lenses sony have made.

    Best Sony sensor ever made imo. I returned my Riv shortly after using it. The Rii/Riii sensor is much better in low light and on par with the 24mp counterparts. I wish they built more on the sensor. I need a Riii mark ii lol.

      This is awesome insight!
      I have wanted to go to the R5 eventually
      Is the sensor better here? Or again is the R3 better and should I stay on this body?

      @@solomongarcia72 from what I've seen the Riii still beats the Rv in lowlight but the Rv is better than the Riv. Just depends on what you shoot and your needs. If the AF of the Riii does everything you need I'd be hard pressed to upgrade.

    I come form 30 years of shooting film cameras. I currently own the Nikon F2A and FE2. I got into Sony cameras, glad I did as Sony is really kicking it, because of the a6000. There it sat at BB, a baby Leica style camera. My next purchase was the A7R3. There it was, a true successor to my Nikons in the digital world. And I absolutely love this camera. I wanted a high-resolution sensor as I shoot a lot of photos, and often it is of small birds and far off objects. This camera's sensor is so good that I easily crop and maintain excellent quality. I don't use the R3 for videos, I have the ZV-E1 for that. But my love is for stills. I grew up shooting stills, worked at my job shooting stills. Video is OK but not really in my blood.
    Even today, I'd rather use the R3 for photography over any other camera. Sony made a near perfect camera with the R3. Anyone who loves to shoot stills with a sprinkling of video will love this camera. It's that good.
    You might want to ask why I love stills, this is my feeling. Stills are forever, videos get lost on a hard drive.

    Still very good. Even with lenses that are more budget-friendly like Tamron 35/2.8 or Samyang 50/1.4, this camera gives outstanding images.

    Still using the A7Riii and the results are NO different than when it was released. I use it for portrait and sports photography.. sure looking at the newer models and how crazy fast and sticky the new auto focus are now a days, the a7riii still just works. I almost got fomo, but in the end the autofocus is still fine for needs when it was released and still today.

    Good video and have to agree with the majority of what you've said... like you - I switched from Canon (a 5DS) to Sony (A7R III) - the main reasons I swapped was wanting to move onto mirrorless and benefit from a lot of the modern features that mirrorless introduced - as well as a lighter model to lug around.. being spoiled with a 50MP sensor on the 5DS - I have a limited pool of alternatives to pick from (once you've had a large MP camera and have benefitted in post from large crops without losing detail - it's impossible to go back!! LOL!) - the Sony A7RIII performance is very good in this regard - it has a much better dynamic range than the 5DS and is a far better performer over a larger ISO range as well (especially in low light). Can't see me switching or 'upgrading' again..

      Honestly unless Sony comes out with something that is much much better, I feel the same way, no need to “upgrade” any more haha

    I have both cameras and in practice I cannot see any difference in AF performance, the viewfinder is much better in the RIII and the most important thing (in addition to a better construction) is that the 42 Mp allow better use of the APS -C mode. I often use the III with vintage lenses, many of them "prefer" 24 Mp.

    I've had the A7RIII since probably 2019 and its been the best photography camera. Suitable for corporate and sports videos as well, however the audio jack now malfunctions so I bought an old FS7 and now I run the A7RIII as a b-cam and stills camera.
    I rent more up-to-date equipment if the client requires it. But 90% don't 😁

    Thanks, Zach! I recognized Garden of the Gods in the first two minutes. What a great place! I am thinking about adding an used A7R iii to get access to E mount lenses. I love my Canon R5 and collection of EF and RF lenses, but it's no new flash that Canon still hasn't committed to open up the RF mount.

    • @Zacharytm
      @Zacharytm  5 месяцев назад

      Glad you enjoyed! The E-mount lenses are a game changer. There’s just so many options.
      I’ve also noticed that the a7riii’s colors are actually kind of similar to canon.
      That was my big gripe with Sony when I switched over from Canon. I just didn’t like the colors, but now with the newer models, I feel like they have gotten a lot better.

    Is still worth to get an used A7Riii with the sony 16-35mm f/2.8 (GM) both going together for 2k???
    I’m trying to decide what’s going to be my first camera, and I want one hybrid camera that I could use for at least 5 years, and I will probably be using only this lens in the first 2 years so Idk if is a good choice.
    (The shutter count of the camera is 21,000)

      Shutter life rating for the R series cameras is 500 000, so if it wasn't dropped too many times and abused, you should be fine. As far as the lens goes, it greatly depends on what you want to shoot, so for landscapes etc, it should be a good combo.

    • @Zacharytm
      @Zacharytm  4 месяца назад

      Sounds like a good deal, but yeah just look out for scratches, and that shutter count doesn’t seem too bad

    A7iii is superior. Far better autofocus, about $500 cheaper, faster in almost every way, better battery life. The only advantage the R has is resolution. Anything else that people try and say is really not worth mentioning

      I appreciate your sentiments. I own both cameras and enjoy using each. I find that focus acquisition with the Riii to be immediate and I haven’t had any issues with battery life as I regularly shoot 3 hours worth of continuous one minute subs of deep sky objects plus a full suite of calibration frames (dark, flat and bias) with plenty of battery life to spare. Where the Riii really shines is that sensor, in that regard it’s almost unfair to compare the two. The level with which you can push the Riii data in post and crop if necessary dwarfs my a7iii. That said, I use the a7iii for other purposes and it’s certainly a capable hybrid camera. I don’t believe you can go wrong with either one.

      The AF really isn't leaps and bounds different. I've owned both and it really isn't substantially better. R has better evf, full magnesium body, twice the rated shutter count, not prone to premature shutter failure. R is most certainly a better camera unless you are strictly doing sports and wildlife but even then the III isn't that noticeably better. I sold the III long ago and have no problem with sports or bif with the R.
