My husband gifted me the makers crates for my birthday. So far I have done the lettering cup and a lamp made from wire, they had everything in the box and were very good quality. I think the Makers crate is good for someone that wants to do crafts but doesn't know what they want to try. I learned I don't like working with wire! 😂🤣😂
The best handlettering tip I ever heard was not to be afraid to lift your marker! It's not cursive! You can lift your marker as often as you like. I think of handlettering in strokes rather than letters.
I subscribed to Kiwi Crate for me, an adult, for a while. One thing I liked was the sheer variety of projects. Everything from printing fabric to making soap to making mini lanterns. Even though I COULD buy the supplies for each project every month, I wouldn’t try most things on my own, and you get just the right amount to try out a new thing. If you want to continue it, then you know you like it already. Or if you’re like ehhh not for me, you aren’t stuck with a bunch of supplies you’ll never use
I have seen sponsorships for this of a million times, this video is the first one that actually made me want to buy it. You did an amazing job. Absolutely love all the flora on the second one.
Stencil syggestion: use fine tip to trace the stencil then fill in afterwards with brush tip. Much cleaner and quicker. Also less likely to move the stencil.
Three years of Japanese in high school plus some occasional studying when I find the time as an adult here - Japanese symbols are very simple. It's (with a couple exceptions) always either a vowel by itself or a consonant + vowel combo and the vowels all have just one pronunciation. A [ah]; I [ee]; U [oo]; E [eh] & O [oh]. So the word is pronounced "oo-kee-yoh"
I have two kids, 6& 7, and having been getting the kiwi crate for over a year now. They love them. They look forward to getting them in the mail and it's one of the few things they will just set still for. There is any where from 1-3 projects per box and my kids play with them for days after making them. Plus they come with a book that has a story to go with the project as well as STEM info and other at home activities. Our last one had a simple fruit dip recipe that they could make on their own and they LOVED it. Also for other parents on the fence, both of my kids are high energy, demolition crew set of girls and these kits hold their interest.
Chloe messing things up is the most relatable thing & I love that she doesn't cut that out to remind us that nobody is perfect & we're all just human beings & make mistakes 💜💜 Ps that dog patting the water to see if it's dry is the cutest thing😍
I haven't tried this line of Kiwico, but my son was subscribed to another line from them for a year and we really enjoyed doing them. They always included everything you need, except for maybe a pair of scissors and the instructions were always extremely clear. Usually they also had an instructional video. The material included was of a good quality. They usually also included some extra's which is nice if you do something for the first time and might mess it up! The project in the box was always very reasonable compared to the price, especially taken into account that I don’t live in the US and it included international shipping. It was always fun and kept us occupied for like an hour, after which we could play with the project. It always was something that held up extremely well. As said, I don’t live in the US and shipping usually took a bit longer, but never too long. Stuff always arrived undamaged. In short, I highly recommend these boxes.
To be completely honest, you are much better at hand lettering as a beginner than I was when I started. No matter what you think, yours does look pretty good.
Your perfect imperfections and brave showing of them are one of the things I just absolutely adore about your videos. Eg. "I don't know how to do this well, but I'm going to give it a go". Eg. "Look at my new studio. It's lovely and wonderful"... A few months later... "Ok, that studio sucked. Look at my new studio! It's lovely and wonderful". I just freaking love it all!
I’ve watched quite a few of your videos and I really enjoy them! You’re a wonderful artist with a bubbly personality and a wicked sense of humour. Can I just say one thing - the wild zooming in and out and back and forth… I know it’s all the rage with youtubers now, but I enjoyed your “old” way of cutting videos a lot more. I know you’re free to do however you wish and I’m not saying do it differently, but - does anyone have a similar problem? I really do get seasick. But then again, I’m a whimp. Anyways, you’re doing an awesome job here. So thank you.
My great grandson Loves these Kiwi crates since he was 4 years old and I started him from the 5-8 yo category and he just absorbed it all. Every year I go up one level and the beginning of each month he starts looking for his special crate. Best thing ever for children to learn from simple instructions and fabricate things without using a computer… just brains and everyday items. Amazing!
I've gotten the Maker Crate on and off for a couple years now, and they can be real hit or miss, but you always get some new tool or supply that you can reuse, which is nice. And I like combining different boxes into a single larger project when I can't think of what to do with the project as-is. My one complaint though is that they give you a paper inspiration book and make you watch videos for explanations of the tools and project, which can get a bit frustrating. I'd much rather have it the other way around. But the videos are very helpful, the woman narrating them has the most soothing voice ever, and, it does answer all the questions you're likely to have- including for example, answers to the question of how to wash the travel mugs. I know that when you're filming a video, you can't always stop and watch a 10-minute instructional video. But for anyone considering this box, I just want to make it clear that you're not just given a bunch of stuff and expected to figure it out on your own.
This box was great and I loved what you did. I think the stencil is actually a guide for if you want to write a word in a different shape like a curve. I’ve had something similar in a calligraphy set before. 💜
I believe the stencil is not for making rainbows but rather to use it as a guidelines if u wanna write your text in arch or that triangular shape and make each letter different size :D
@@nephfey2605 I'm sorry I never saw you commented on this. It depends on the crate really. Each month has a theme. The Koala crate is appropriate for kids ages 3 to 5. One crate was night time. So we got a slow in the dark sock lightning bug stuffed animal, a toilet paper roll mushroom, and one other activity. It literally comes with everything you need to do the project. If you go to their site it will give you a ton of info about each crate option.
I grew up with the tinker crates when I was younger. No one really knew about them then. They were absolutely amazing! Such a wonderful diverse set of kits, my favorite was a spin art kit where you build your own motor. Would get them for my own kids (if I had any)
I've gotten their Maker Crate in the past, now my daughter and I each get the Doodle Crates. We get to art and craft together! I really enjoy their crates.
Chloe attempting Hand Lettering and writing beautifully: "Ewh, that's awful" Me attempting to write a simple note and ending up pooping on a piece of paper: "Wooow that came out good!" I honestly need to sort out my brain :D Anyway, the "mindset is everything" cup is honestly wonderful!! I still need to finish the video I'll be back on the comment section in a few seconds
I should've done the Maker crate for my kids. We've done the doodle and tinker before. While they are fun, we ended up with pieces all over the house and the last 3 doodle boxes haven't even been opened. If I renew, I'll get this one, then at least I can do it if they don't 😅
Stencil tip! - You only draw around the edge of the stencil while it's on the page, you don't try and colour it in while holding. With these pens, they have the small nib, so you could draw around the stencil with the right colour, remove the stencil, then colour it in. It means you can colour more slowly, be more precise, and you don't have to worry about accidently moving the stencil out of place
My kids have been doing the kids Kiwi kits for years. They are always entertaining and my kids still have some of the products of the kits that they made a long time ago. I definitely recommend them
The word Ukiyo is pronounced oo-kee- soft y sound with oh. So kind of oo-kee-oh. Awesome work, I think I tend to over work things with my art as well. Simple but purposeful is very difficult 😂

I like the rainbow marker one! I just did a whole video on my channel about stencils! I would definitely recommend using the smaller bullet tip when doing stencils and getting an outline of the stencil then going back and coloring. :)
Handlettering tip: space out your letters way more than you think is enough, like how when you're reading aloud or delivering a speech you're advised to speak way slower than you think is reasonable. Even massively overspaced it looks cool, whereas underspaced only looks good in sans serif fonts, not cursive.

Great video, the project looks like fun! but near the end I freaked out cause I could only hear you on one side of my headphones. I freaked out thinking I had broken another new set 😂 tested it on some music and it's fine, but oh boy XD
Me, a 28 year old woman, got extremely excited when my sister in law sent me a few kiwi co Eureka boxes to build a year ago lol. I think kiwi co is so fantastic on what they're doing to get kids (and adults) interested in STEM/STEAM 💜
Looks like you had lots of fun with it. Top tip for brush lettering, try not to think of it as writing but as individual sections/brush strokes even within a single letter you might want to lift your pen.
My auntie subsribed to kiwi co for my birthday and while sometimes i didn't manage to finish it in the same month from the ones i have done i actually really enjoy them.
The stencil can help to put words in shape...like write in the form is given with the stancil. I would use a pencil to trace the form and go on from there. If you have difficulties with holding the stencil right just tape one side down (washi tape, painterstape etc). It is fun to watsh you explore these boxes, thats how I came to your channel...maybe 4 years ago...or something.
I use a dry fluffy brush with little bit of paint for the stencil’s not markers. Lighter on the inside push harder for the outer to give a highlight. That’s how I use stencil’s .
My niece got the doodle crate for awhile and I would have had fun with it too - she got these cool lanterns to make (like decorate and then fold the paper into the right form) to put on twinkle lights and I traced one to make a template for myself, lol. I might try maker crate sometime. Somehow I hadn't realized they had one directed at including adults.
7 months late, but I honestly love both of the mugs! If I absolutely had to choose, I would have to choose the Ukiyo mug, I love all the little designs you've added to it :)
Lol @ the stencil 😂 I love your innocence or idk if that’s the right word lol it’s so cute!! I love lettering.. the curved lines are for lettering patterns… I srsly enjoyed this video!!
It would have helped if you watched the tuitorials that came with the QR code. It showed it multiple times on the box and things. The video is not just content that’s the instructions, I would not recommend doing any other boxes without watching them furst

TO USE STENCILS:
1.) Use micron end to trace the entire stencil
1.5) Remove stencil
2.) Color it in
3.) Enjoy
However, I do believe this particular stencil was designed to help with letter placement.

I have done the paper pulp, terrazzo, and the one you did. I love it. I've been slowly working on the punch needle pillow one.
The mindset is everything is perfect because there’s no white space where it looks boring
I get the science ones and I think it's pretty well thought out. It's got everything it takes, and they're a lot of fun.
I love both designs so much!
This looks like a great value for all you get.
I love you chloe my favourite is the second one but they both look so good!
Okay, the dog paw SENT ME! 😂😍
I like the box, but I love your pigtails even more! You look so cute!
I did the doodle crate and loved it very much!!
Lol @ the stencil 😂
I love your innocence or idk if that’s the right word lol it’s so cute!! I love lettering.. the curved lines are for lettering patterns…
I srsly enjoyed this video!!
It would have helped if you watched the tuitorials that came with the QR code. It showed it multiple times on the box and things. The video is not just content that’s the instructions, I would not recommend doing any other boxes without watching them furst
Hi Chloe! Love your videos they always makes me happy and gets me in a positive mood . I loved both mugs but the pink is my favorite 🤩 . Please let us know when ever you have more items on your store to buy
As a fellow lefty I completely understand the struggle of hand lettering
I follow a lot of DIY, sciencey channels and I always see KiwiCo on them, the STEM stuff for kids but I didn't realize they also did craft stuff, or anything for adults. :O I was expecting to see you build a cool lamp or something lol
The jewel tip markers were the best. It took me a good 5 seconds to realize it must be dual tip.
I love your handlettering =( im jealous! lol you write beautifully! was fun to watch thats for sure.
A key tip for handlettering GO SLOW and dont be afraid to lift the pen. The slower you go the easier it should be to control the brush tip.
