  • In this video, Guy answers the question “Can you be gay and a Christian?" Or, in other words, "Is it a sin to live a gay lifestyle?" Tell us what you think in the comments.
    After living an active gay life for ten years, Guy Hammond decided to leave homosexuality behind in order to follow Jesus. It’s been over 30 years and although he is still sexually attracted to men, he hasn’t acted on those desires since his conversion. He is now the executive director of Strength in Weakness Ministries. This online community is dedicated to helping same-sex attracted Christians all over the world. In this toolbox series, Guy and his staff will be answering some of the most controversial and complex questions that face Christians today.

    Wow. First I want to say God chose you to experience life as a christain and to ponder and teach a current day taboo. No easy life but 2nd as a disciple therapist I beleive someone living with same sex attraction is the same as any temptation like those with heterosexual urges and still remains abstinant as a single professional or adulterous urges for fighting against sex outside the marriage. All three cases are about denying of self and picking up your cross. So yes you can have same sex attraction and be a disciple. It's all about repentance.

    There are beliefs for people who want to be happy and an active homosexual while being Christian. Here is a site that talks about how the Bible could very well have been mistranslated and misinterpreted to be against homosexuality: wouldjesusdiscriminate.org
    It talks about how the numerous stages of translation and alterations to the Bible may have lead to very human and fallible people using the Word to advocate their own opinions. Bottom line, believe as you see fit. It is your right, but be wary of using matters of faith to coerce, litigate, or denigrate other people unless you are prepared to have the same attitudes and actions thrown back at you from the multitudes of people that believe differently. Peace be with you.

    • @darunzahn3171
      @darunzahn3171 5 лет назад

      @@markanthony3275 "Believe as you see fit" is my message to others in a secular sense. One of the right to believe and practice ones own religion without persecution. Since faith is not cultivated by fact, but rather by belief and trust in what has been taught to us, it is impossible to say with absolute certainty and objectivity that my belief, your belief, or anyone else's is the one true belief. Instead of attempting to be theocratic and force others to believe similarly to ourselves under threat of systematic punishment, it is more moral to respect another persons right to believe, explore their faith, and share with others our own exploration and experience of faith.
      That bit from Proverbs can just as easily be turned around back on you and those that believe homosexuality is a sin by saying that the false teachings of mistranslations has lead men astray and because of this, it causes men to be lead to death. Death through homophobia and hate, death from ostrcization, fear, and suicide, death of faith in the message of Jesus as people are spurned and pushed away from His teachings.
      15 The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going.

      @@darunzahn3171 You should know that there is only one source of objectivity...and it isn't scientific, for the simple reason that science necessarily involves subjective humans...it's God. Yes Homosexuals have been persecuted, and no , Christians are not to participate in the coercion or persecution of anyone...however...there's a BIG difference between beating, torturing and killing someone...and merely stating the obviously true facts about sexuality that God calls abhorrent, medical science calls lethal, and psychology calls addictive and compulsive behaviour. And Christians are not supposed to just deliver the "bad news"...they are supposed to include the "good news"..."For the wages of sin is death...BUT...the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord". And the key is REPENTANCE...admitting that God is right in calling homosexual behaviour, and many many other behaviours SIN, and that the only way you be free of those chains is by going against your PRIDE, and admitting you need God's help.

    • @darunzahn3171
      @darunzahn3171 5 лет назад

      @@markanthony3275 Frankly, we disagree on what objectivity is, and what is the best source of it. Yes, science can be twisted and misunderstood to include opinion over data, but science is also willing to adapt and correct itself when challenged with disproving data regardless of source. Religion is a terrible source of objectivity because there is no data given to base from, and if challenged with disagreeing data there is no correction to be in line with fact. The only people that have been given power to alter a religions stance are those culturally believed to have been given divine authority like kings, Popes, and "prophets". When they do alter a stance on something, all that believe in a similar divinity don't necessarily agree and that creates fractions and different sects of belief. Since we are not in direct communication with any divine entity, the only thing we base our understanding of Its stances on is passed down information like the Bible, Quran, etc, which may have been altered by aforementioned humans. So what one group says is God's will and decree can disagree with what another group says, and objectivity does not hold multiple conflicting stances based on people's opinions, feelings and beliefs.
      Also, citing God as the source of objectivity when faced with the fact that others require objective proof God exists is a cyclical and nonsense argument like defining a word by using the word in the definition.
      I appreciate that you do not believe Christians should persecute and harm homosexuals. Sometimes the faithful can forget the entirety of their doctrine when faced with one part of it, and that can lead to hypocritical and selfish ends.
      Again, some Christians do it believe God thinks homosexuality is abhorrent and neither side knows for sure which translation is closer to the original authors intent, Jesus' teachings, or God's intentions. You can believe your translations while others are free to believe theirs, and when we move on and face the Almighty then things will be revealed. I don't begrudge you the right to express your beliefs in a respectful manner to try to warn others of what you think is sin, but then also be prepared to be warned back from others that are expressing their beliefs hopefully respectfully as well. In my beliefs, I have things to repent and beg forgiveness for, but homosexuality is not one of them. I am solid in my faith, and you do not have the knowledge or authority to change it. Perhaps you'll see why many find arguing with others about differing beliefs can be so difficult and frustrating.
      Finally, you're just completely incorrect in saying that homosexuality is lethal according to medical science and that modern psychology describes it as compulsive and addictive. The whole reason homosexuality was removed from the DSM 5 was because medical and psych professionals agreed by majority that it is not harmful to the person or others. It is seen as a natural, normal and comparable to heterosexuality. If you want to explain or cite why you think that way then I'd be willing to debate the topic civilly.
      Good day to you.

    There are two Greek words in 1 Corinthians 6:9 that have been taken and misused. The writer of that verse never used any Greek words that were used in reference to what they would have known as homosexuality then. However, that didn't stop some anti-homosexual people around the 50's from putting the word homosexuals in there.

      I see lots of oppinions, but no facts regarding the issue at hand. Same sex attraction is no more idolatrous than opposite sex attraction. And, anyone who compares what we know of as homosexuality to beastiality, incest, fornication and adultery are comparing something that is not born of harm to things that are. The inhabitants of S&G were idolaters and wollowed in many sins. They were not loving caring homosexuals.
      The only reason you see some homosexuals placing more emphasis on their sexual orientation is because of the harm and death caused and perpetuated by those who oppose them. If it were not for the likes of you, homosexuals would have simply been just another aspect of God's obvious love of diversity with all of creation.
      "Homosexuality is the sins of Sodom" is a lie created by humans with an anti-homosexuality agenda. It has been exposed as a lie for all to see.

    So I'm trying to find the verse Corinthians and... How the fuck do you read a Bible

    • @yuhz1m1
      @yuhz1m1 Год назад +2

      Hey, I hope I understand the question that you're asking and that this response is helpful and not overly simplistic: The Bible is more like a library than a single continuous book. It is a collection of narratives, poetry, letters, etc. that all come together to give an account of God's love for humanity, and His plan for redeeming us to Him. Each item in the collection is called a "book". So Genesis is a book, Leviticus is a book, 1st Corinthians is a book, etc. Each book has been broken down into chapters, and each chapter has further been broken down into verses. This subdivision of the books into chapters and verses is just there for ease of reference.
      Brief segue here: The best way to read a book of the Bible is the same way that you would read any other book of it's type. So in most cases that be that you start at the beginning and read to the end. An, example of an exception to this may be the book of Psalms, which is a book of Hebrew poetry - each chapter is a single complete poem, and can be read accordingly. But for the most part you can just start at the beginning of a book and read through til the end. A great resource to help guide you through this is the BibleProject (bibleproject.com/ ). They use animations to give you a brief overview of each book. This includes background and historical and other context to help you understand what you are reading.
      Anyway, back to chapter and verse. There are times when people may want to locate or discuss a specific section of a book, and that's where chapters and verses come in handy because you can use them to point someone to the exact sentences in the Bible that you are referring too. When written, the format looks like this "Book" "Chapter":"Verse". So if you see "Leviticus 18:22", for example, it is referring to the 18th chapter of the book of Leviticus, and specifically to the 22nd verse of that chapter. The reference that you mentioned in your comment is tiny bit trickier - it is "1 Corinthians 6:9-10". First of all, that "1" in front of "Corinthians" is super important. That's because there are two books called Corinthians in the Bible, so to differentiate between the two of them, we call one "First Corinthians" (1 Corinthians) and the other one is called "Second Corinthians" (2 Corinthians). The next thing to notice is the hyphen (the "-") between the "9" and the "10". That just means that you are to read everything from verse 9 through to verse 10. If, for example, it had been "9 - 13" then you would read everything from the beginning of verse 9 all the way through to the end of verse 13 (i.e. verse 9, verse 10, verse 11, verse 12, and verse 13). So, to sum up, 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 refers to the sixth chapter in the book of 1 Corinthians, specifically reading just from the beginning of verse 9 of the chapter through to the end of verse 10. You can find it here: www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1+cor+6%3A+9-10&version=HCSB . That website, BibleGateway, is another great resource as it gives you access to the Bible online.
      If you're using a paper Bible, there is typically a Table of Contents at the front of it that tells you the page number that each book of the Bible starts at. Often there will actually be 2 Tables of Contents. One of them lists the books in the order in which they are found in the Bible, and the other lists the books in alphabetical order. That alphabetical listing is super useful. 10 out of 10, highly recommend lol.
      One last thing that I'll say about chapters and verses is that sometimes you'll see one or more commas used instead of a hyphen, for example "Galatians 5:19, 21". Remember how I said that if it had been a hyphen there, that would have meant that you should read the whole section starting at the beginning of verse 19 and ending at the end of verse 21? The comma means something different - it means that you should read just those specific verses that were listed. So in this example it means that the person is specifically directing you to read just verse 19 and verse 21 (not verse 20). I mean, ultimately you can read whatever you want, but the reference is directing you only to verses 19 and 21.
      That was a lot. Hopefully something in there is helpful to someone.

    • @yuhz1m1
      @yuhz1m1 Год назад +1

      This is a side note, in case anyone was wondering why there are two books called "Corinthians" in the Bible. Both 1st Corinthians and 2nd Corinthians are letters that were written to Christians in a city called Corinth. The people who lived in Corinth were called Corinthians. So 1st and 2nd Corinthians are two separate letters that were written to Corinthian Christians.

    romans 1,Paul says idol worship of statues causes gay lust. yet its Wrong for anyone to assume it causes gayness in all gays. he speaks of heterosexuality as normal but pagan gay rituals and lust as sinful,and not gay people in general! while leviticus 18 and 20 mention the hebrew words Shakab and not shekobeth. THis means forced sex and not consentual sex. God has not said all homosexuality is condemned in that chapter. That misreading they have been accusing all gays these past 100 plus years is dishonest.

If he chooses to not partake, he is not participating in the same way any LGBT+ person would, therefore it makes no sense to put himself under the same umbrella as them. We have the same urges but we do not view life the same way. Our identity is found in Jesus, not our sexuality, and the LGBT+ community is 100% all about labeling yourself based on who or what you're attracted to physically and romantically. We have no shame for our temptations but we also have no pride in them either. A natural feeling is not necessarily a feeling we should follow/entertain because it may not be good for us. @@DIBBY40 as it relates to polygamy, the question I pose to you is is that how God designed it in the beginning when there was no sin in the world? If not, when did polygamy start - was it before or after sin entered the world? The Bible records many actions without specifically saying whether they were righteous or not. We are left to come to those conclusions for ourselves by comparing the action/behaviour that was described to what the Bible teaches us is wrong or right.
      The Bible tells us that King Solomon had hundreds of wives and concubines. However, the Bible also outlined what was expected of Israel's kings - "He must not acquire many wives for himself so that his heart won't go astray." (Deut. 17:16 HCSB). As it turns out, that is exactly what happened with Solomon (1 Kings 11:3-4). So the Bible tells us that Solomon had hundreds of wives and concubines. However the Bible also teaches us that in doing that he broke God's law.
      God over and over uses imperfect, sometimes even highly flawed people to carry out His perfect plan. This includes even heroes of the faith. God's plan retains it's perfection not because the people that He uses are perfect (where would He even find such a person outside of Himself?). It retains its perfection because God is perfect. We are called to study the Scriptures to learn how to live righteously. We are called to initiate the persons recorded in Scripture when they are acting righteously, but not when they act unrighteously. When they act unrighteously we have the opportunity to learn from their mistakes and not make them as well.

Now after christ, we have the bible. Bible maintains one man to one woman. You see...medical science, and educational institutions show that the Bible is correct in saying that any sexuality outside of one man marrying one woman for life is TOXIC and results in death.

    It's okay to be a gay Christian. Gay people know what it's like to be Jesus because they are terrorized by the religious people. There's no bigger advocate for the LGBT then Jesus Christ

      Truly? I've read the gospels (first four books of the New Testament that tell of Jesus' life while on earth) many times, and He never even mentions homosexuality. Hmmm.

      I really think if you make the bible the foundation of your values - study it. Homosexuality, heterosexuality are wrong. Actually the sinful list is damn long so let's not cast the first stone at others while we have other sins perhaps not as visible. So let us not be judgy here but reflect on our lives whether we self deny. Carry our cross and walk w God. If you believe in the bible and choose to be a disciple, follow it whole heartedly and read the bible else you won't know what God is commanding us to do. Remember the bible never promise life is what we want and life is cushy.... Its sacrifice and denial but it is a choice if you want to follow christ.

    Hey Guy,
    There's a word for you, it's not homosexual, it's not gay. It's... Bisexual. It's also... Religious hypocrite.

      No, bisexual wouldn't fit him. He has very clearly stated at other times that he is attracted to men and is not attracted to women. The only woman he was ever attracted to was his wife, and even there the physical attraction doesn't seem to have been what is generally typical of a marriage. So no, he is not bisexual, nor is he heterosexual.
