One of the reasons I started taking the Bible seriously was the fact that it described the human condition, and human behavior so well, at least from my experience.

Psychology is wonderful. Many people have been helped by receiving psychological services however as Christians we should be very weary of new age practices like meditation and such. I don't mean cause any contention but I think mindfulness would also fall in this category.

The first scripture used was incomplete and this was an immediate cause of concern for me. Luke 10:27 actually says, "And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; AND YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.” This was when Jesus was praising God after the 72 returned with joyous results. Jesus was then speaking privately with His disciples when a lawyer tested Him about eternal life. Jesus asked him about what was written in the law and It was THE LAWYER who replied in verse 27 (and he was quoting Deuteronomy 6:5 and Leviticus 19:18). Jesus did not say this verse although He told the lawyer he had answered correctly. This lead into the parable of the good Samaritan. The focus was on love and "Who is my neighbor". The focus was not on "God is interested in the way I think." This is what psychology does though because at its root is humanism - which is essentially that man and his knowledge have the answer, God does not have the answer (just what the serpent told Eve in the garden). There is no way possible for psychology to bear good fruit because it is a bad tree (Matthew 7:15-19, Luke 6:43-45 explain this). Also, CBT is not biblical because it puts power in man's theories and abilities, not in Christ (Colossians 2:8 "Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ.") CBT is dangerously close to the occultic "Power of Positive Thinking" concept by Norman Vincent Peale (the power of your mind). The renewing of our mind comes through Christ alone. Romans 12:2 and Ephesians 4:17-24 explain about how we are to be renewed in the spirit of our minds, which is the new self that has been created in the likeness of God. CBT is also a 'method', which has nearly the same definition of 'technique', and that can swiftly dive into the realm of the occult. Philippians 4:6-7 "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and pleading with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus." Be blessed brothers and sisters! Stay strong in the faith!

This is a great response to this video, I was thinking the exact same thing. However, there are times when God uses the expertise of the people on Earth to help others gain healing. God can absolutely heal anything that burdens us. However, the means to which he does this is not always directly from him. For instance, if someone has a diagnosis of a severe illness and they pray to Him for help, God may, in fact, directly remove the illness himself OR he may put a doctor that specializes in this illness to watch over your case to ensure that you are healed through the best possible care.
The same goes for mental health. Dr. Mike Shapiro listed the characteristics that christians must uphold to live a healthy life. But sometimes, we as people struggle to uphold those characteristics. God may guide you through a journey to overcome these struggles and a part of that journey may be to call you into counseling so that someone who is anointed is able to provide the help you seek.
Just because humans are better able to understand creation does not take away from the power that God wields. It is shown throughout the Bible how God uses people of varying expertise to heal others, such as in the case of his apostles. God will not anoint someone who he believes does not wield the expertise that is needed for God to do his work in a persons' life. I don't think Psychology or any science is supporting an "occult" belief but rather provides God a means of working in our lives.

This is also one of those things you can frame as a “Sufficiency of Christ” problems: Is Christ insufficient and we need Christ + psychology? Is Christ sufficient and we need Jesus + nothing?
When it’s presented this way, it seems like the devout who really believe ought to all weigh in on Jesus side and make him sufficient without needing anything further.
The problem with this view is that we don’t forgo: water, food, medicine, education and we never ask the question can’t God feed us without going to the grocery store? Can’t God cure us without medicine? Isn’t the teaching of the bible sufficient (why should I have a math text)? God is our teacher, our provider, our healer but it doesn’t render him “Insufficient in Himself” that he cares for us through these secondary means.
Psychology, when it’s helpful isn’t proof that God can’t heal us but it’s another way in which he does heal us.

One thing is the spritual and other thing is the carnal. I think your argument isn't fairly stated. I do believe Christ is more than sufficient for our spiritual/psycological needs. If people want to go to therapy I respect it but I think that talking(praying) to God and reading the scriptures(soul's food) is much better time spent and ultimately the only thing that can really deliver you completely from your spiritual/psycological issues. There are no therapies in the world that can help you like when the Holy Spirit works in you.

The Apostle Paul was talking to Christians not demon possessed souls who are slaves to sin. So you apply secular humanist theories that want to remove the existence of God to try a heal someone. Trying to Christianise those theories to make them kosher is very deceptive. People need to come to the end of their sinful selves via the cross. Bow to Christ as Lord. Then build on that foundation with the Word of God and His Spirit to renew their minds. Not on Nichie or Yung.

For Mindfulness Therapy, a good Bible scripture is “Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.”

These techniques DO help a person manage their thought processes. But taken out of context, it can make it seem as if the person has autonomy and control vs. God being sovereign and able to also intervene in our well-being and health. I don't think that's what's being presented here, thankfully. We just have to be diligent to always acknowledge God's rightful place in our lives, as well as His power and involvement (Prov. 3:6).
As a Christian counselor, I can say with great certainty that much of "mainstream" psychology today is bunk, as it denies many fundamental inherent truths about reality and human characteristics that were designed by God. It often relies on group-think and secular faux science to prop up its view of people; one that views as a series of biological processes, while denying the eternal spirit, the true soul (mind, will, emotions and consciousness), and the nature of sin.
This goes further, acknowledging that even our molecular / biological structure is formed and maintained (held together) by Christ Himself (John 1:3, 10; Col 1:16-17, 8:6; Prov 20:27; Psalm 119:73; 139:13-14; Heb 4:12; Isa 44:24). These truths are fundamental to the Christian faith and permeate the Bible from cover to cover. To properly address and deal with the human mind and soul, we must balance with the practical with the supernatural; the flesh vs. the Spirit.

You have it all wrong doc.It is Jesus who renews the mind not your training how to think. It is Jesus who said “ The mind is deceitful above all else, who can know it ,come to me I am your Physician.”There is no psychology in the bible.Psychology is a religion on its own and in opposition to the bible it doesn’t know sin, repentance, being born again or the Holy Spirit.Psychology cannot get you into heaven or forgiven it has no eternal or temporary value. No one goes to hell for OCD,PTSD,ADHD,BIPOLAR or any other so called mental illnesses they go to hell for sin.Why not name the sin in every imaginary “ mental illness” by biblical terminology such as ,greed, anger, lust, selfishness, pride, envy, jealousy, gluttony, sloth etc.,at least then you can deal with the real problem.Psychology is only describing sin by other names,it has no solution to the problems of mankind it was begun by atheists and is riddled with atheists.Pastoral Psychology? The psychology part is still the theories of atheists.Psychology is no science at all ,since when can science examine the soul anyway. As a christian you should rather stick with Jesus alone and stop wasting your time and lead people to Christ,He is the only cure and solution,He doesn’t need help,He is the help.

Reading the books of the New Testament, we probably asked ourselves more than once: *"Why 2000 years we do not see those miracles that accompanied the Сhurch of Christ in the I century, as described in the New Testament?"* Why do the so-called preachers of Christ have to prove that Jesus really existed and atheists boldly deny the historicity or divine origin of Christ? Maybe because the Сhurch of Christ has not existed for 2000 years?
The Сhurch does not exist in the form in which it is presented in the books of the New Testament, but there are Catholic, Orthodox, Protestant and other christian sects claiming to be the place of the Church, but they not have the only thing that distinguishes the divine from the human and is characteristic of just the Сhurch of Christ -the reinforcement of the word with signs, that is, miracles (Mark 16:15-20). Therefore, some researchers doubt the historicity of Christ, and some of them are not opposed to declaring him a an ordinary philosopher, teacher. But even if Jesus were an ordinary philosopher, his disciples would be ordinary followers of Jesus. And they would not dare to write about the miracles that not only Jesus, but also his disciples, could perform. In this world, the great fertility of atheism can be explained by the fact that there is no main opponent of critics of the Bible - the Church. If there were the Church in our time as described by the authors of the New Testament books, where miracles are performed, the sick are healed, where prophesied, and the dead are raised, no one would doubt the historicity of Christ. Then there would be the same controversy throughout the world as in the first century - Jesus the Son of God or the false prophet who seduces the world by miracles. As a result, we can say that the emergence and development of christian sects and atheism was the result of the fact that over the 2000 years the Сhurch of Christ did not exist.
Find *"The Mystery about the Church of Christ"* video on RUclips. The video reveals the prophecy of the disappearance and reappearance of the Church of Christ before the End of the World. There is no communication formula that is universal.
Each person who works with psychologists is a unique case.
The Bible can help psychology and communication.
Psychology and communication do not have formulas to help the bible that will guarantee results.
The affairs related to Heaven and Hell are bigger in complexity for psychology and communication.
Cults are simple, based on psychology and communication.
Everything about psychology and communication is not enough for the content in the Bible.
