I live in Orlando. Couple weeks ago there was a high end car show in Miami. Drive time would have been about 7 hours round trip via 450 miles. Gotta think about gas and tolls also. A roundtrip ticket for Brightline was $95. I took at 5am train down, was at the show before it started, enjoy that, went to to museums while I was in Miami and took the 9:30pm train home. All in all it was an excellent day. I slept on the way down, and watched a movie on my way home. I highly suggest the Brightline to everyone.
I live in Orlando, nearby, and I enjoyed the Brightline to Fort Lauderdale and saw cereal museums there and there is a boat show in Miami at the same time. I saw many yachts go down on their way there I guess very interesting. Very comfortable
You guys have your cameras set to 50 Hz framerate (European). In America our power grid (and therefore our indoor lighting) has 60 Hz frequency, that's what causes that weird horizontal scanning effect on the indoor video shots!
I think Brightline will be even more competitive if they build a second Orlando station near the parks (though I know that those plans are on thin ice). Also, it doesn't help that along the new section from West Palm Beach to Cocoa, it rarely hits the 110 mph speed limit and only goes 125 mph in the short section between Cocoa and Orlando. That said, still way better than driving (especially in Florida) and less stressful than most airport chaos.
@@danieljk826 nowhere near "high speed" as I've experienced in Spain and Italy (300 kpm - 186 mph), but this is still a huge step forward for the US. It's clearly less stressful that driving. About the same time as flying if there aren't extra long security lines, weather, etc to slow down flying. Train from city center to city center is super convenient. I live in Miami. 5 months ago, I took Brightline in Smart Class from Miami to Orlando in 3.5 hours each way. Took the first morning train to Orlando to spend a day at Universal Islands of Adventure prior to Kesha's Only Love concert at Universal Hard Rock. The concert started at night and went all night, necessitating an overnight stay at an airport hotel prior to taking the 3rd morning train back home. Easier than driving.
What's cool is the possibility for future expansion, Brightline could (with a few regulatory hurdles) extend right up to Disney and have a station there, or any of the other attractions, which would massively reduce road traffic and travel time on that end, something that isn't possible with air.
So what is the time difference between both of your arrival? Who wins can important, but by how much is even more important, it can still make taking the train an attractive option!
Brightline is about 3 hours, 15 minutes or so. Figure he timed it tightly, 20 minutes to get there, 20 minutes before boarding, 30 minute uber in Orlando, I'll go with 4 hours 30 minutes, beach to Magic Kingdom.
The main difference between train and plane for distances this short is the price you pay for short notice tickets and frequency options. A plane ticket is pretty cheap if you buy a month or two in advance but if you decided to buy day-of, it's unlikely to be the case. As for a train, you can usually buy a few hours before hand without huge price penalty and there are 28 different departure times to choose from. And finally, the time it takes to get to your final destination. In most circumstances, the train station is centrally located to downtown (I know that isn't the case for Orlando Brightline) but when the extend the line to include an Orlando proper station, that's an additional time savings.
@@enjoystraveling goes to show how much of flying involves waiting, be it in the terminal, at the gate, taxiing, etc. That's how trains can compete with planes up to certain distances. Brightline isn't even high speed rail and it's still competitive to air travel between Miami and Orlando.
It helped the flying time a ton that you didn't check bags and that you didn't book coach. To say nothing of how much faster you can get off of a plane in first class and how much faster it is to claim your bag from the train if you check luggage. If you factor those concepts in for people who have to check bags and can't afford first class the time advantage of flying is cut down considerably.

The travel time for Brightline to get to Disney will only improve in the coming years. The next Orlando station will be at the convention center via the Sunshine Corridor which is much closer to the theme parks. There might even be a Disney Springs station on the way to Tampa. As long as the train's time is close enough to the total travel time of flying, it'll be the preffered method of travel. We've seen this countless times in Europe, we've seen this in the Northeast Corridor, and we're seeing it in Florida with Brightline. Brightline West will likely follow the same trend.
Nicky has a better rating so gets picked up faster than Liam! The truth hurts!!😂 In all seriousness, this was a great idea for a video, people take Disney planning VERY seriously!
I’ve tried it three times now, and the train is so comfortable, I like reading on my e-books, and I noticed many watching movies, or maybe actually working I sometimes glance up and look at the scenery. It goes by some beautiful bays, to be honest. Mostly, it’s the scenery is just, not so exciting. as european, $79 seems crazy expensive for such a comparibly quick train ride, i can travel on the all high speed hamburg - munich line (via berlin) for 5 hours and 17€, and they have a monopoly on that route-
One thing to note about the wrapping on the Brightline trains, you're probably better off not getting the full view because it gets proper toasty in Florida without that shading the sun and also, there's not much to look at anyways.
Loved this video. Just came across yall channel. And I would def take the train instead of the plane. I was not aware that train systems, well Brightline was set up like the airline (checking in luggage, being served meals etc) Just WOW!!! All about diversifying transportation options.
Ngl, when I saw it was Nicky and Liam going to Disney by plane and train, I assumed it was London to Paris - I'd forgotten that the US is finally trying to make trains happen again.
I have yet to ride brightline but some have likened it as a diesel railjet as the trainset is similar to the high speed rail in Austria. ÖBB's railjet is comprised of a Siemens Sprinter electric locomotive & Siemens Viaggio Comfort coaches having a streamlined control cab on the opposite end. Brightline consists of Siemens Venture coaches (based off the Austrian counterpart) powered by a Siemens Charger diesel locomotive.
The Brightline Orlando station is literally at the airport, could have ended your race there. 😅 To be a bit more serious, as a Miami resident I'm not very inclined to use Brightline due to 1) the cost (much more than driving or a comparable trip in Europe), especially when you have more than 1 person traveling, and 2) the fact that the station is at MCO and not the middle of Orlando proper. All of their other stations are city stations so the Orlando location is both bizarre and very inconvenient.
I understand all these points. There are only 4 reasons I can see using this service. 1) You've landed in MIA and need to get to MCO, or vice versa. 2) You're in MCO and you have a good amount of luggage and need to get to the Port of Miami or Port Everglades for a cruise. 3) You have a fear of flying and this is a way better experience than AMTRAK. 4) You really hate dealing with the hassle that is both MIA and MCO.
@@beckeb00No disagreement from me. That's why I prefaced my comment with "as a Miami resident" since the train is better for visitors than anyone else. (At least, for the full length between Miami and Orlando; the segments within South Florida are actually pretty popular with commuters) The ticket prices are still a total ripoff, though.
@@beckeb00 or like me you are too stressed by the toll road from Orlando to southern Florida and I simply like trains and so the train is the way for me to go and two times I have found specials on the Brightline website of $39 all the way to Southern Florida and $59 another month. Of course, I could take a plane since I’m not afraid of flying, but when it’s about three hours or less a train makes more sense to me.
That Broghtline train is where’s it at…that would be great for cruise passengers or travelers wanting to combine Miami and Orlando vacation trips. To save time you should have taken the cab from the airport to the Contemporary Resort and walked over to magic kingdom to skip that annoying monorail from TTC.
I did wonder about going to Contemporary BLT and walking. Would still have had bag check, but might be a shorter queue coming from the bus/boat side. That said - not sure they would have let you do Uber drop off without a reservation - but could always lie or just booking a dining reservation.
@@sethanix3969 the time it took both of them to get to their respective stations was roughly the same. The time from their destinations to Disney was also roughly the same. But the FLIGHT was an hour and a half and TRAIN was THREE HOURS, you think you ate here or something lol
You just forget some minor details like going thru security (I have stood in line for an hour), mega terminals where you need to find and get to the gate and then the long walk to the exit at arrival (hoping you don't need to wait 20-30min for your luggage that can get stolen), boarding completing 20min before departure or you've missed it, etc etc. These small things add up and make the train competitive and a lot more convenient.
@@raleigh5683Have a seat. MIA airport is 20+ minutes west of downtown Miami where the Brightline station is conveniently located. You arrive ~60 minutes before your flight, 1 hour flight time, 20 minutes of deboarding, 20 minutes at baggage claim if you did luggage. That equates to ~2 hours 40 minutes to 3 hours in total travel time. All that with a higher ticket price and less space, comfort, and amenities than the train.. You thought you were telling somebody something here. 😏
As someone who lives at the beach, “running in the sand” you’re right “totally not a vibe “😂 And I love this race, I’ve been wanting to try the bright line train. I’m definitely have to do it soon. It’s sad that the Orlando sunrail doesn’t run from the airport to the theme parks. It would’ve been perfect. But hopefully Americo start to understand how to network their train systems soon . 🙄😂
Even in its current state, Brightline really does compete with flying, and it could be so much more. Right now trains are limited to 79mph because of at-grade crossings with streets, which there are over 300 of along the Miami-Orlando route. It would be cost prohibitive to elevate the line above traffic but who knows maybe in this century that could happen. Elevating the lines would allow the trains to run much faster and cut down that travel time by up to an hour. A more immediate fix is to add additional trackage to the main FEC line - I have ridden Brightline before on the full route and round trip, and from Orlando to Miami, there was a small delay around Ft. Lauderdale because a freight train was passing through and our train had to wait on a siding. They really should have built three tracks at the smaller South FL stations - two for Brightline at each end, and a middle one for the odd freight train passing through. Otherwise the train was much less stressful and comfortable than a plane. In Orlando, I could be dropped off at the station near Terminal C and largely avoid the typical airport BS, but the real game changer was that the train got me right in downtown Miami. Now only if Orlando ever builds that extension of their Sunrail commuter train to the airport (and actually run it more frequently and on weekends) then it could be a relatively painless downtown to downtown ride with one transfer.
Something they mentioned which should not be understated is that it is direct competition with airlines and driving. In this way it should keep plane tickets relatively modest and keep more people off the road during congested hours. I'm a huge proponent of trains ever since living in Japan/traveling in Europe. They are nice, comfortable, and usually cheaper than alternative ways (albeit longer...there's no way a train beats a plane time-wise).
Maybe you should race: From Paris to Amsterdam: 3 hours and 22 minutes by train vs. 1 hour and 15 minutes flight. From Zurich to Milan: 3 hours and 17 minutes by train vs. 55 minute flight. From Milan to Rome: 3 hours and 5 minutes by train vs. 1 hour and 10 minutes flight. From Beijing to Shanghai: 4 hours and 24 minutes by train vs. 1 hour and 55 minutes flight.
If you weren’t so much in a hurry, like a race you could’ve done this very much cheaper than an Uber. Miami has public transportation. I forgot how much it is but you can get from Miami Beach to the airport with just public transportation and then you could even take from the airport to Disney Springs, you can take by the local Orlando transportation called Lynx. And that is only two dollars and then you can get a boat from Disney Springs to get the rest of the way and the boat I believe is free
Wish this would expand towards the other part of Florida as I would gladly take a train to Orlando or Tampa versus driving 6+ hours from the panhandle.
@@FlyingMaxFr Usually but the Orlando international airport is an incredibly busy airport. Sometimes I have a domestic flight from Orlando to out of state and I’ve waited in line for 45 minutes at least or more.
It's worth noting on the Brightline West project, that it's only going as far as Rancho Cucamonga, a city 40 miles east of LA, where it'll connect with Metrolink, SoCal's regional rail service, that people can transfer to in order to get to/from LA. That's a 74-minute ride, which combined with BLW's anticipated 2 hour 10 minute ride to Las Vegas, plus time to transfer at RC, totals about 3 1/2 hours of travel time from LA's Union Station to BLW's Las Vegas station, and closer to four hours for downtown LA to the Las Vegas Strip using transit/rideshare. Flying will still remain the faster option for that route, though as Liam mentioned here the train will offer a nicer travel experience than an airplane.
The higher levels of service on the train will make the longer travel time on the train worth it. Also, eventually the train will make it into LA Union via CAHSR link with the High Desert Corridor.
@@Ven100 many an online skeptic says that train will never get past the Central Valley. I fortunately am not among them, nor are the majority of Californians. When CAHSR reaches Palmdale does remain unclear though, the sooner that gets funded the sooner it'll happen. My guess is mid-2030s, and ideally their LA-SF service begins by 2039, the centennial year of both LA Union Station and SF's original Transbay Terminal. I could see CAHSR and Brightline West pooling their resources and working together to build the Palmdale-LA segment, in return for BLW's shared use of it. One needs to consider the capacity restrictions of LAUS though, between increased Metrolink service, Amtrak, and CAHSR, even with the run-through tracks which sadly won't include a return loop. Maybe BLW could run a few trains there per day, with the remainder either terminating at Palmdale or continuing to go to RC.
What was the time difference? It must have been significant for you to have omitted it. Even with a long taxi time, a 30 minute flight has a more than two hours advantage vs the train. It would have been great if you had included someone driving in this race.
Like the video, great to see, looking at the prices they are close (unless that 50 dollar uber gets a cheaper alternative) But there's (important) info missing, like how long had he been waiting, just 5 mins? or longer then an hour? Also what's the regularity of these services? (as Dutchy we are used to trains running every 15 - 30 min, depending destination, during rush hour/season/events it can even be more frequent -note that our busses are just as frequent 15 - 30 depending on the route and rush hour/season/events with a few exceptions in small villages where it might be hourly when it's off season)
I'm not surprised that flying was quicker in the U.S. However, the train would be more adventurous where I can stretch my legs. Less stressful, I feel too. More laid back.
Liam's UBER to Disney was very pricey considering he was closer to the TTC at Disney than Nicky was. I know this was filmed near Christmas, but nevertheless, welcome to my turf, gents!!
5:19 why would they put a window then later just cover it for good completely obstructing the views that one wants to enjoy? Train companies should find alternatives or fix this!
Just FYI regarding the luggage, it does fill up. We had pre booked and by the time we got to the station it was totally full. They gave us a credit… which was very difficult to obtain a refund for as international guests who wouldn’t have an opportunity to use the credit at all. It took us 6 weeks to obtain a refund.
I just was on the bright line website and it takes 3hrs 30 min to go from Miami to Orlando. Why does the video make it look like it was a close race ? Am I missing something, since Nick's flight was only 35 minutes
Total journey time flying is more than wheels up to wheels down. The flight gate to gate is an hour itself. You can find plenty of MIA-MCO full flight videos on youtube. Then there's the time to get to the airport before departure for security.

So how close were the timings?
I’ve actually gone on the bright line from Miami to Orlando and it was so fun
Liam’s alive! 😍
The running makes sense given the flight time is set in stone regardless of when you get to the airport...
I've been to Miami, Orlando and Disney the same days as you and I wish I have seen you guys
Loved this video. Just came across yall channel. And I would def take the train instead of the plane. I was not aware that train systems, well Brightline was set up like the airline (checking in luggage, being served meals etc) Just WOW!!! All about diversifying transportation options.
Why are the windows covered with this net? A crucial part of the train experience is looking outside... Sad
Ngl, when I saw it was Nicky and Liam going to Disney by plane and train, I assumed it was London to Paris - I'd forgotten that the US is finally trying to make trains happen again.
Can’t believe I live so close to it!!!!!❤❤❤
I have yet to ride brightline but some have likened it as a diesel railjet as the trainset is similar to the high speed rail in Austria.
Brightline is definitely more of a car alternative but this is a fun race nevertheless.
Can you guys say difference in time between both options? How long it took each to get there?
The Brightline Orlando station is literally at the airport, could have ended your race there. 😅
To be a bit more serious, as a Miami resident I'm not very inclined to use Brightline due to 1) the cost (much more than driving or a comparable trip in Europe), especially when you have more than 1 person traveling, and 2) the fact that the station is at MCO and not the middle of Orlando proper.
Not the wrong Disney Castle at the end 😅
That Broghtline train is where’s it at…that would be great for cruise passengers or travelers wanting to combine Miami and Orlando vacation trips.
To save time you should have taken the cab from the airport to the Contemporary Resort and walked over to magic kingdom to skip that annoying monorail from TTC.
I did wonder about going to Contemporary BLT and walking. Would still have had bag check, but might be a shorter queue coming from the bus/boat side.
That said - not sure they would have let you do Uber drop off without a reservation - but could always lie or just booking a dining reservation.
I love how they conveniently leave out the fact that the Brightline from Miami to Orlando, takes THREE hours lol. But still a fun video lol
Yeah, and taking a flight city center to city center generally also takes three hours. Funny how that works, right?
@@oskarsrode2167 LOL ok sis
@@raleigh5683Have a seat. MIA airport is 20+ minutes west of downtown Miami where the Brightline station is conveniently located. You arrive ~60 minutes before your flight, 1 hour flight time, 20 minutes of deboarding, 20 minutes at baggage claim if you did luggage. That equates to ~2 hours 40 minutes to 3 hours in total travel time. All that with a higher ticket price and less space, comfort, and amenities than the train.. You thought you were telling somebody something here. 😏
As someone who lives at the beach, “running in the sand” you’re right “totally not a vibe “😂
And I love this race, I’ve been wanting to try the bright line train. I’m definitely have to do it soon. It’s sad that the Orlando sunrail doesn’t run from the airport to the theme parks. It would’ve been perfect. But hopefully Americo start to understand how to network their train systems soon . 🙄😂
The Sunshine Corridor will solve this.
Maybe you should race:
From Paris to Amsterdam: 3 hours and 22 minutes by train vs.
Brightline!
Why didn’t you guys do 1 Uber with 1 extra stop?
Wish this would expand towards the other part of Florida as I would gladly take a train to Orlando or Tampa versus driving 6+ hours from the panhandle.
Liam, are we trying to bring back mom jeans with tucked in tees? I'm not sure it's gonna stick, bud 😂
I'm always rooting for Liam!! Lol
I left Orlando before this was built but it looks like the Brightline station is at the airport?
How long did you get to the aiport? You need to be there 2 hours before your flight departs
2 hours on a short domestic flight? That sounds a bit much
In reality at most airports arriving 1 hour before departure is plenty...
yes, for domestic flights and without checked luggage.@@FlyingMaxFr
I would say Paddington is kind of a station of one operator- GWR
And tubes, Elizabeth line, Heathrow Express...
Did they say how much time between each other was the delay on arrival?
What was the time difference? It must have been significant for you to have omitted it. Even with a long taxi time, a 30 minute flight has a more than two hours advantage vs the train. It would have been great if you had included someone driving in this race.
30 minute flight is just wheels up to wheels down. The flight block is still 1 hour.
I only watch the vid's that these two are in. They are brilliant!
Why was the two Uber ride from mco to MK price was a huge difference?
Like the video, great to see, looking at the prices they are close (unless that 50 dollar uber gets a cheaper alternative)
But there's (important) info missing, like how long had he been waiting, just 5 mins? or longer then an hour?
Also what's the regularity of these services?
(as Dutchy we are used to trains running every 15 - 30 min, depending destination, during rush hour/season/events it can even be more frequent
-note that our busses are just as frequent 15 - 30 depending on the route and rush hour/season/events with a few exceptions in small villages where it might be hourly when it's off season)
Had there been checked luggage the train would have won easily.
So how much ahead did you arrive?
Why didn't you stop at Brightline Miami Central first and then to MIA?
8:31 Bruh thats my school lmaoo
So what was the difference in time?
Missed you two ❤❤
5:19 why would they put a window then later just cover it for good completely obstructing the views that one wants to enjoy? Train companies should find alternatives or fix this!
You guys know that Miami Beach (the city with the beach) is a different city than Miami? Guys?
Just FYI regarding the luggage, it does fill up. We had pre booked and by the time we got to the station it was totally full. They gave us a credit… which was very difficult to obtain a refund for as international guests who wouldn’t have an opportunity to use the credit at all. It took us 6 weeks to obtain a refund.
"That is niceeeee"
Sir that's water
Brightline seems better overall, its much faster and more efficient than a car.
Train operator with their own station = Chiltern Trains, Marylebone Station, London
WTH?! What was the actual time for both trips?!
Not the mom jeans Liam!
The train is quite nice, but it's sad that you have to catch ubers at either end :(
You don't have to, especially not in Miami.
They did it because it’s race and that was the quickest option, not because it was the only option
What a fun video! I love watching y'all. 🤣👍🏻
But what was the total travel time for each?!?
You’ll be very happy to have those train windows covered in the summer.
They have window shades on the train. No nee to cover the windows in advertisements.
I do like MCO but yep the satellite terminals is a pain sometimes. thankfully the train might be a good think to reduce the stress of airports and brightline premium have free shuttles or car hire if you wanna go to something within 1/4 mile radius
Should have a third guy drive because i bet it would win
