Must have been journeys of 5 to mostly 6 ours. Co2 by train was 6kg, by plane 63 kg. Doesn't that make it quite easy to choose, when the taveltimes differ 4,5%?
And beware: traveling from (more common) Heathrow or Gatwick is a complete other storie, because it takes a lot more time to get to those airports then to City Airport.

I've binged all your train vs plane races and I love your style. It's really funny how the train is only slightly late for both Amsterdam and Edinburgh, when I would expect the train to be faster option for the latter. As a fan of trains I think a drawback of Eurostar is that you still need to do the passport control (even if you got away easy this time). I know you are UK based, but it would be really interesting to compare journeys in the Schengen area, eg Amsterdam-Frankfurt or Paris-Milan, as you can literally just hop on the train minutes before departure. Amsterdam-Frankfurt should take only about 4.5 hours, but DB trains are notorious for being delayed which might add to the suspense. Paris-Milan takes somewhat longer at almost 7 h, but you get views of the Alps and the executive seats on the frecciarossa are really luxurious from what I've seen on youtube, so it would be a nice comfortable ride at 300 kph. To make this one comparable maybe try travelling with luggage and take public transport to the airport. Looking forward to the next race!

A 4hr train ride is in the sweetest spot where it is the most preferable mode to take over air. However, given the the fact that the flight was from City Airport to Schiphol (which is extremely close and well connected to the Amsterdam Central) it negated a lot of benefits offered by rail. Great race and I'd still take rail any day of the week.

Some others numbers (corrected): there are about 60 flights a day from the 6 airports of London to Amsterdam Schiphol, 12.000 seats vv. A full Eurostar train consisting of 2 engines and 18 coaches carry 750 seats. To replace air traffic, 16 of those Eurostars a day would be needed. That is one train every hour in each direction. Currently thera are 4.
Anybody wondering why short term train tickets are expensive?

Another advantage of the train over the plane, which people tend to forget to consider, is the following: If you have work to do, reading or writing on a laptop, for example, on the train you start working even before the train leaves and you can work without interruption until reaching the final destination. On the plane, you have to wait for the plane to take off and have gained height and stability to start working - hoping there is no turbulence on the way. When the plane is about to land, you must stop working. As the train goes smoothly all the way, on a two-hour train journey, you may work for two hours. On a two-hour plane trip, you may work at most for one and even then with a lower degree of concentration and performance.

Next time y'all's are in the states, you should do a train vs plane between Miami and Orlando once Brightline starts service between the two. The flight takes approx 1 hr & 15 minutes while the train (which is a diesel powered Siemens trainset similar to Austria's Railjet) is expected to take around 3 hours.

I am from Amsterdam but lived in London for three years. Therefore I made this journey about 50 times. Unfortunately, the tickets of KLM are usually about 1/3 of the price compared to Eurostar. In case you fly EasyJet (LHR - AMS) it can be even cheaper. That said, I would have definitely chosen train over plane if the prices were not that high. Not sure what the price differences are at the moment.

Well done guys, you have done London to Paris,
    London to Edinburgh,
    London to Amsterdam and
    London to Brussels now.
But I still think that you could reasonably do 2 or 3 more like that which would obviously be good races to see.
The 3 I had in mind would all leave from London but go to 3 other European countries within reach.
    1) Germany (Frankfurt, Munich or Berlin - you choose the city you feel would be best for a race)
    2) Italy (Milan, Rome or Naples)
    3) Switzerland (Zurich).
You can obviously space them out like a month apart or whatever.
But I think they would be right up your street and given that you are both such great European citizens I am sure that you would thoroughly enjoy the races and visiting the different nations and their cultures.
I apologise if I seemed too pushy, after all it's really just a suggestion.
    Sorry, guys.😳
