RACING from London to Brussels | PLANE (Brussels Airlines) vs TRAIN (Eurostar)

- We raced between the Houses of Parliament in London to the European Parliament in Brussels, Belgium.
Nicky took flew on Brussels Airlines. The total price was £208.60 comprised of a £2.60 tube fare from Westminster to Paddington, £25 for the Heathrow Express service to the airport, a £140 flight from London Heathrow to Brussels, and finally a £40 taxi from Brussels airport to the European Parliament at Place du Luxembourg.
Liam took the Eurostar. The total price paid was £288.60 which was made up of a £2.60 fare on the London Underground from the race start point of Westminster, a £276 Business Premier ticket on the Eurostar Service from London St Pancras International to Brussels-Midi, which included priority access and a comprehensive food and beverage offering and finally a £10 cab from the train station in Brussels to the finish line.

Liam: the eurostar is reliable
Also Liam: gets stuck in the eurostar every video
As a brussels airlines flight attendant who frequently works the bru-lhr route I am absolutely gutted I wasn’t working this flight. Would have loved to have you on board! Glad to see Nicky won!
Prefer the train as I don't have to worry about restrictions in my carry on. Really great to see this compared!
Also the comparison is not entirely fair, without bags, without taking public transport (quite different from BRU than from Zuid station) and they made it so that the one in the train actually spent time in the lounge before departure whilst the plane was so tight that he almost missed the flight. Try arriving tight on the train, with enough time on the plane, public transport and a bag.
My sister got follow by a creepier on a train and she had my niece and nephew with her so it made it scarier
I stick to planes or driving
@@corpselizzy was this on a metro or a long-distance train? It makes sense if the creep was in a subway or bus but it’s pretty rare seeing creepy people on long-distance rail
plus Liam gets to eat a 3 course meal in the train that you don't get in the plane
If travel times are not extremely different, I would always prefer a train. I travel quite a lot for work between Bergen and Oslo, and had the train been only about 4 hours I would choose that over the 45 min plane ride every time. Both cities have the train stations in the middle of the center, while the aiports are a bit outside
I am the opposite I will always prefer the airplane, I hate trains and I love flying. But it comes down to preference i guess :)
@@Driesking Of course :)
@@rowaystarco om du tar nattåget är den effektiva restiden 0 timmar :)
@@rowaystarco men för mig är det ganska lika, på sträckan Östersund-Stockholm tar flyget 50 min och tåget 5+ timmar.
@@jatterhog Yeah, I've used the night train several times. Will probably try the new lie flat seats on the Bergen line the next time around.
Oslo-Bergen with plane is honestly aslo much more than 45/50 min total. Especially if you need to check luggage for the trip. Airport express train from Oslo to the airport (20 minutes) Check in at the airport (at least 30 minutes, but I don't like stressing so usually more). Arrival in Bergen (10 minutes or more if waiting for luggage) and then travel to the city centre (40+ minutes if using the light rail, minimum 20 minutes if going by car)
In the end you can easily end up spending 3 hours from city centre to city centre. With the stress of transferring several times and the security check at the airport. So Oslo Bergen in 4 hours (4 hours that can be spent working on a laptop or relaxing) is absolutely to prefer. But sadly 4 hours is far away, especially with the current government.
Liam is a legend for finding any opportunity to whoosh past Nicky. He’s ready to win EVERYTHING 🔥
Unlucky Liam
Amusing the first time...
I do find it hilarious that you “race” from the start despite the fact the train and plane have pre-determined departure times and you have set tickets for set journeys.
thatas always what i thought with top gear lol. even if it wasnt fixed the fact would be that the car was racing the timetable
Dubu
Yes but the security/passport control/customs are unknown variables, plus traffic in London/Brussels
Loved the edit, as always. And you two are great. This dynamic just keeps getting better and better.
Great Video! A video suggestion: A Race (Train vs Plane) between Zurich and Geneva, Switzerland would be interesting.
Thought about the same.
The Eurostar is basicaly an airline on rails with all the security and pre-boarding area bs. Zürich - Geneva would be very interesting because there's a train every 30min, which means little to no waiting time, and because you can just walk up to the train with no security checks or pre-boarding area or even ticket gates you can arrive at the station very late before departure and still make it.
For example if they started at the Sechseläutenplatz at xx:15 you would manage to take the xx:32 train to Geneva and by the time the other one would arrive at the airport at about xx:45 you would already be on the move since quarter an hour.
I really hope they'll do this race at some point. Because for once the train would have a good chance to win.
That was exciting! A suggestion for a similar close race : between Vienna and Budapest (railjet vs austrian airlines)
I am pretty sure that is a major train win, unless you're going to the South East end of Budapest, but even then...
Superb race - love this series. Stay well and travel light guys x
I love how Liam is working to make the best of the situation to pull it all together no matter the delays. I hope to see a long haul plane, train, and automobile comparison, who makes it first video in the future with the whole crew.
Amazing trip (again) guys. Loved every second of it. Good to see Nicky catching up with another win in his column.
No channel does more appropriate music than #ThePointsGuyUK #Outstanding
I love this content when you compare between plane and train.❤
Thanks for this vlog. Happy week. Ciao. 2023.
I love these challenges and feel a tinge of nostalgia that you ended at my old workplace.
Love these videos! I'm always secretly cheering for the plane to win! hahaha 😝
Nicky’s smile could solve the Energy Crisis. Also, congratulations! 👏🏽
You both are unbeatable👍🏻👍🏻
My favourite duo is back for another round...omg, how did I miss you, Liam.. I work in St Pancras International 😊👏🏽😍
Great fun video! Keep doing them. Would have been nice to see in the video (not only comments) a price breakdown and also total emissions
The bloopers in the beginning was honestly the best
Well done! Great show! U would have won if the blinking Eurostar wouldn’t have had to wait outside Brussels station! Pity! Eurostar is wonderfully amazing! I travelled on quite often! Will use Eurostar from Paris to London as well again!!
Bless U guys!!
Gents, these races are my some of my favorite videos on your channel. Brilliant as always. Nicky, are Liam’s “race trots” a catchy new British thing or just something weird.” Lol. Maybe Liam is a trend setter? Thanks again gents! 😊
Thank you!
Thank you! Trotting is faster than running, trust me. Liam
Sad there was a pillow on the seat on the train. I am sure it would have been pluffy😁
Great video once again! I love the train vs plane competitions you do!
One video suggestion for you guys is doing Montreal to Toronto, plane vs train because im canadian and it would be interestin to see this!
The problem with that route is the plane will win unless it's very heavily delayed (2+ hours). Even Via Rail don't claim it's close, rather they focus on productive time.
very good idea :)
From my experience, the main pain point for the Eurostar is Brussels. I went to London and back from Rotterdam, and both times we got delays around Brussels. Other than that, a great, comfortable journey by train
Brussels is also a pain point for Belgian train traffic. The tracks are just oversaturated with trains that delays are daily occurences
every time i've taken a eurostar i've never had an issue around brussels - but could be purely luck lol. maybe theyve gotten worse over the past couple years idk
@@Unbaguettable It probably has to do with rush hour traffic, both times I was delayed at Brussels, it was the evening
@@Jonago. most times I come into Brussels it’s about midday, so that could very well be it
First! Love your vids! Also, love the blooper intros 😂
Need more videos from you lads.
Missed you guys!!
btw there's a train to Bruxelles-Luxembourg (the station under the parliament) both from Brussels Airport and Brussels North (which I suppose is where the Eurostar arrived). No need of a taxi
Eurostar arrives at Brussels South/Midi. There is a direct train from there too, but the metro and a short walk is quicker. Either way I don't think a car is ever the right choice if you want to race anyone to anywhere in Brussels. Nicky definitely got very lucky with how quickly he got to the centre from the airport
Yes, my thoughts too that taxi was a waste of money for both of them, but espeically after the eurostar
These guys are so cool I bet they’re so cool to vibe with in real life
I feel like if they also took public transport in Brussels, the train might have won
Great video. I'd take the train, just for the relaxation factor. Don't want to handle the stress of air travel
In general trains are more relaxing, but I think the Eurostar is an exception. It's much more similar to the airport experience thanks to all the security, immigration and airport like boarding rituals. All that negates the benefit of taking the train for me.
Caused by the (in)famous Brexitghost.
I have always wanted to see this! I am from Belgium and when i want to come to London i always wonder what whould be the fastest (airplane usually is cheaper than the train for me!)
Whenever the both of you are sprinting, TRUST ME when I say I’m aware it’s not for dramatic effect 😂
can't wait for your air france vid
Please explain the sprinting at the start. How does arriving 5 minutes earlier at a train station or an airport help when taking a scheduled train or plane? It's especially silly if you're travelling Eurostar on Business Premier and you arrive 90 minutes before departures. You only need to arrive 10 minutes before departure.
You’re going to crack up but I was thinking to myself when would the chaotic duo come back? Have a great 2023!
Thank you Pokhraj! We hope you have a brilliant 2023 too
Yeah Nicky finally a win awesome mate 🇦🇺
Would be more fair if both left at the advised time before departure, as most of us would. Also match the train + flight dep time. Gives the image
You guys were there on Tuesday 😍😍😍😍
Next we want a Milan-Rome race!
Race time! Love these videos..do you guys use Top Cashback on Expedia some great rates I got with them and TCB paid high rate as well..
Is that Sony cameras that you guys are using?
You have also to try Rome - Milan plane vs train race
I love your Videos 🔥🔥🔥 to Funny
amazing
Can you clarify something you said. What did you mean when you said the Eurostar was equivalent to 14 flights to Paris. Do you mean it replaces 14 flights? Is it's carbon footprint 1/14th of a flight to Paris? Why compare to Paris when you're going to Brussels?
8:12 I like your top, Liam! Capital Cities in their language.
Liam should have changed at Green Park for the Vic line. Far easier change and a quicker line.
Liam is in the posher part of the carriage. Nice! Also, how many people will recognise him this time?
You were lucky with the taxi from Zaventem Airport to Brussels. Normally there is so much traffic that you'd have hated it.
The train is not that bad, it brings you from the airport directly to the Brussels Midi Station (via Brussels Nord).
Guys you should race from 1 Land's End to John O'Groats, the second one from Southampton or London to Newcastle-upon-Tyne and third one from London to Aberdeen/ Inverness
Would flying from LCY be even quicker?
Do the next race in germany. Also, Eurostar’s monopoly needs to be challenged asap!
We're not building another tunnel!
You guys need to team up with JetLag: the Game for a video series. It would be incredible!
When will the 777 flight come? U were there cuz I saw u in Sam Chui
Considering you both had a specific plane or train to get on, you might as well have just started at the airport and train station respectively considering you aren't just rocking up and grabbing the next available service
"A full hour and 15 minutes late, but we're off." Alright, I have my answer, the train it is.
Shame you forgot to invite Nigel Farage along to give you guided tour of your chosen final destination 😉 Lovely race nevertheless. Keep up the good work lads. 👍
Always love plan vs train😍❤️💕🚉✈️✈️
You should do a race from London to glasgow
I like your guys
hi I am traveling in 2 weeks and I am wondering if you can pay to get inside buissnis launge with economy ticket
I will come UK soon right now I am in Bangladesh I hope I will see you guys in there
Always do the train, less stressful and easier and only ever marginally slower or faster
Do westjet 787 from Calgary to London
Eurostar is the best. If you can get tickets on sale then it's awesome without too many luggage restrictions and I can get it from KC which is 45 mins away on one underground train. Would definitely be into sleeper trains to other parts of Europe with minimal changes if possible
Nicky, your coat is fly!
What magic did you use? No traffic jams in Brussels????
Nicky not wearing a seatbelt in the taxi tut tut :-)
Am I thick or did I miss something. 1 Eurostar journey is the equivalent of 14 flights to Paris. That would mean 1 Eurostar emits the same as 14 flights. I think he meant to say that 1 Eurostar emits 1/14th of the emissions.
I think maybe it means 1 Eurostar carries the same number of passengers as 14 American planes
@@MrStark-up6fi no it’s not that. He meant to say 14 Eurostar trains emit the same co2 as 1 plane.
@@NeilJames1982 oh ok
i'm us based, but when i'm tooling around the uk for pleasure, i like to take trains so i can see the landscape. if the us had a decent railway system, i'd take more longhaul train rides here.
That eco stay seems the round way round. Definitely don’t think 1 Eurostar journey is equivalent to 14 flights to Paris?!?!
If so, I think the train might need an upgrade
Agree I was confused AF when he talked about this.
I swear why is it every time they do a race that involves Eurostar a delay occurs on the train? It almost feels rigged hahaha! 🤣😂 I would still choose to travel Eurostar though, I have done the journey before and in most cases, when running efficiently and on time, it is quicker than flying to Belgium; facts and statistics backup that point.
I guess I must’ve been lucky cause I’ve taken the Eurostar six times up and it’s never been delayed lol. Mainland UK trains on the other hand…
I got a little question right here: Why did you took the taxi? you could also take a train to Brussel Luxembourg from Brussels Airport and Brussel-Midi. (Not hate or something I'm just curious)
He told he missed the train at the airport
@@BlascoMusic you are right, sorry my bad
I’ve got another idea train vs plane from Venice to Rome
0:05 swiftie era ✨
How about Frankfurt to Paris?
PLEASE Could you do a side by side comparison of flying business class on a cheaper connecting route versus a direct route in business class from Heathrow to Dubai to see if it’s worth the extra £££ for the direct route?
Example: LHR to DXB via CDG with Air France in business is £728. Versus LHR to DXB direct with British Airways in business which is £1309. Almost double the cost!
Would be very interesting to watch!!!
Please upvote this comment so they see this!!
Flying euro Business really isn't worth the price.
Trust me.
@@damcoentertainment3956 but it’s a huge difference so it could be very tempting
Train stops:
Jean: I can relate
WTG NICKY!
Nice video, but footage was really shaky. You should try gopro for running scenes.
The Amazing Race was close
why do you run at the beginning? your plane and train are at scheduled times so you know who will win
You should do a video when you compare The SAS seats. There are not really that many good vidoes about SAS yet. Like in reviewes
Why did they say bonjour if their in London?
Do more race travel videos
So if the aircraft was delayed by 1hr or so, then that means of aircraft would have won easily without delays. The train delay was only 15mins or so.
Clearly the main factor in these travel videos is average speed - so the longer the journey means the aircraft will always win as the aircraft is obviously much faster than the train. The travel at either end of the journey for both people to get to the departure point and destination point will be about the same for both people when using local tubes/trains etc.
5:21 i think i heard a child asking his mum for an icecream and she says "piss off"
Liam's shirt says Islamabad on it ❤️
The music in this video is too loud!! Love watching but hate having to constantly adjust the volume!
I always wonder what the conversations with their seat neighbors look like.
Nicky, you sound like you have a cold. Hope you feel better
For that price difference I'd choose business on the train.
We want Jean back!
How come Liam always has to take the train instead of flying?
Are you hiring for job openings?
Great video, but the music is much louder than when you are talking, too loud actually.
oh dear, that cough fit at 0:02
So the plane is the fastest one on that line then?
