Greenland belongs to the people of Greenland!
Greenland is currently an autonomous region within the Kingdom of Denmark. We are Danish citizens but our dream is full independence.
We, most emphatically, DO NOT want to become another, abused, neglected overseas territory of the US. The idea that you can just send someone in here with a bunch of money and we’d sell our country, is ludicrous. All we have to do is to see how the US has, and is treating its indigenous populations in Alaska and in the continental US. We have no illusions about being treated any differently under US rule.
Greenland has formally been a territory of Denmark since 1721, long before the U.S. was even a sovereign country.
In 1979, Greenland got autonomy and a Home Rule government was elected. This was achieved, not through bloodshed and war but through peaceful negotiations. A situation pretty unique in a world where most colonized people have had to pay for any independence with their blood.
The authority of the Government of Greenland, and its parliament, was further expanded in 2009. The Greenland government and parliament make unilateral decisions on almost all domestic issues.
The members of the parliament are elected every four years through free and fully democratic elections. However, some areas are still determined by Denmark such as defense, foreign policy, citizenship, and the judiciary system. Denmark does not, however, enact or decide any laws in these areas that concern Greenland without consulting first with our own lawgivers.
The ties between Greenland and Denmark go way beyond history, politics or money. There are many deep family ties. Many people in Greenland have a Danish ancestor or ancestors or Danish family members.
Our society is modeled on the Scandinavian system of tax payed healthcare, education, social services etc. Currently Denmark subsidizes Greenland annually with the equivalent of around 600 million US dollars.
To think that the US would ever willingly pay even a fraction of that to Greenland is insanely naive. The US has never paid as much as a penny in rent to Greenland for the land they have annexed/occupied for their military bases.
The US already strategically controls Greenland, through their military base in the northern part of Greenland. There is no chance of the Russians or the Chinese coming in here with any military might.
No, trump isn’t worried about the Russians or the Chinese coming to Greenland. That is an excuse. No, he wants full control so he can strip mine Greenland with impunity of any and all mineral wealth, raping her blind and leaving nothing but death, destruction and pollution in his wake. This is what his MAGA goons mean when they talk about “development”.
We don’t want your system of government, we don’t want your model of society with its crazed gun culture, insane medical bills and costly education only for the rich. You have no freedoms that we don’t already have. Our society is not perfect, but yours is definitely not worthy of emulation.
We can’t do much if the orange menace wants to act like Hitler and annex/occupy us. Our population is small and not heavily armed.
But such an aggressive act towards a friendly, peaceful neighbor and ally, would certainly not win the US any new friends on the world stage. They would probably lose several of the ones they have now as other countries would justifiable fear a U.S. take over. Trump may think he’s joking or that it’s fun to threaten the sovereignty of other sovereign nations as he has done to Canada, Greenland, Panama and Mexico. But this kind of rhetoric is dangerous in a world as volatile as ours. To dismiss his comments is foolish, as he, like Hitler did, has plenty of followers who are ready and willing to carry out his wishes of a violent take over of territories not belonging to the US.
The US under trump would gain far more through peaceful coexistence and trade…and as our leaders in Greenland have stated: We are open for business, but we are definitely not for sale

There were a reason Trumps farther had to leave Germany after WW2....!
Trump is an insurrectionist and thus constitution provides Americans both guidance and tools that should guide their actions right now!
Section 3 of the 14th Amendment. ~ disqualifies former government officials from holding office if they took an oath to support the Constitution but then betrayed it by engaging in an insurrection.
Constitution does not even demand an insurrectionist are convicted as such in court of law and anyone listening to Trump´s statements 6th of Jan can have no doubt.
Trump holding a speech saying "WE will walk to the Capitol and I will be right there with you" while an exalted crowd shouted "Hang Mike Pence", the many hours he refused to try to calm the crowd storming the capitol or his "I just want you to find 15.000 votes" (that did not exist) are amongst the things that should clear any doubters of Trump being an insurrectionist.
If you love your nation and wants to uphold your constitution I suggest you make sure 14,3 are used as intended and prevent the insurrectionist from ever taking office.

Let's be real, Denmark is treating Greenland way better, than the US ever would. They seem commited to go the way of independence, but the reality is, that Greenland can't stand on its own yet. Besides for free healthcare and access to danish universities, Denmark also covers their defense (which means a lot of backup from the EU) as well as providing about half of their governments entire budget. The US obviously could provide much more financial aid, but I don't think they ever would, considering how they handle healthcare and education for their own citizens.

I do not know why Trump said what he said. Did he get caught off guard with a question he did not think about and just blurted out that he cannot rule out military action? Was he thinking about the Chinese or Russians taking over the Island and a possible US military response? What is Trump talking about that we need Greenland for military security? We already have military bases in Greenland and if we wanted more, I am guessing we could get them. What could we do if we owned Greenland that we are not doing already?

Honestly, my main issue with the buying of Greenland is well, the fact there’s Greenlanders who already want independence from Denmark. I doubt that they would want to be purchased by America and not at the very least have some form of unrest. Basically, think of, say Canada hypothetically buying up Montana. Montana has a smaller population, but would probably want to head back to America instead of being tied to Canada. Hope that helps!

The sad truth is that the US experienced significant deflation in the 19th century, except during the Civil War. This was particularly notable during the "Great Sag" period, which began in the aftermath of the Civil War. The period from 1870 to 1890 saw a sustained decrease in world prices of goods, materials, and labor. This deflationary period was one of the longest in US history, with some metrics suggesting it lasted from 1873 until as late as 1899. $1 in 1867 was only worth 57 cents by 1899. That's cumulative deflation of 47% over the period. So that calculation is not that far off.

As Greenland's PM Múte B. Egede said today "The Greenlanders do not want to be Danes, and they do not want to be Americans either. They want to be Greenlanders,"
As for Denmark it doesn't have the power to sell Greenland to the US anymore than it has the power to sell Alaska to Canada.
This has nothing to do with security, in 1951 Denmark and the US signed the Greenland Defense Agreement, which allowed the US to keep its military bases (from WWII) on Greenland, and to establish new bases or "defense areas" if deemed necessary by NATO. This whole thing is to do with access to the wealth potential of Greenland's minerals and Donald Trump's ego (the Danish PM made him feel little last time he suggested buying Greenland).

And a full-on purchase isnt just unlikely, it is impossible. Its like asking England to sell Scotland. He basically went to the restaurant, where the rounded up ppl wore the hats, they had been given, and gave him a few cheers for a free meal. Half of them didnt even know, who he or his daddy were. The guy, they made the video with, is a serial drug trafficker willing to do anything for money. And the claims about Denmark blcoking them from extracting their own resources are complete bs, the Greenlanders have the final say, in fact the latest big project was cancelled, coz they themselves voted against it.

All five parties in the Greenlandic parliament say no to Greenland becoming part of the USA, and both the Greenlandic and Danish PM have made it crystal clear that selling Greenland is absurd and will never happen. The discussion is not about Greenland cutting their ties to Denmark, but getting more independence, in the sense that they want to go from being more of a territory ruled by Denmark, to a real independent country within the realm of a "United Kingdom of Denmark"

  • @lise1255
    @lise1255 14 дней назад +11

He doesn't even know who "OWNS" Greenland! Greenland is NOT owned by anyone else than Greenland. Greenland is part of the Kingdom of Denmark, NOT the STATE of Denmark.
The Kingdom of Denmark is the Danish equivalent to the British Commonwealth. An organization and union between FORMER colonies and colonizers.
Because of the small population of Greenland and the historical, cultural, and close personal relationship between Denmark and Greenland, the Danish state handles all Greenland's foreign affairs/politics and the defense of Greenland. That's why Greenland is Danish military territory, although it doesn't BELONG to Denmark.
This seems to be very difficult for Americans to understand. Why do they think Greenland belongs to Denmark just because they are part of the Kingdom of Denmark and under its protection?!. It is equivalent to calling Canada property of England, just because they are under the same throne through Commonwealth!?

The Kingdom of Denmark (abbreviated Denmark, which is the same thing officially and legally) is not equivalent to the British Commonwealth, instead it is equivalent to the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the United Kingdom internally: Having a country with multiple constituents within.
Greenland does not have legal sovereignty and the Danish parliament still has legal power to revert the Self-Rule Act of 2009 that changed Greenland's status as a district/country (amt) of Denmark to a constituent.
The territory of Greenland belongs to King Frederik X as for the rest of the Danish Realm, although this is mostly ceremonial, but still official.
