This whole video is about how important Greenland is about to become in the "great power's" race to control the arctic over the coming century and why, and Trump is trying to bring Greenland into the US for these exact same reasons to make sure America doesn't lose that race to the Chinese and Russians... and you say that's sad. You should be clapping and cheering, because Harris and Biden sure weren't going to. Their administration is still trying to bankrupt us in Ukraine because NATO still thinks it's 1982 and Russia is going to invade Germany through Poland. Trump has been looking ahead for opportunities that can benefit the US throughout his first presidency, and clearly has that goal in mind going into the next one. Orange man bad syndrome isn't cool anymore, people have started thinking for themselves again. Maybe you should too? No shame in it.

A video about geopolitics of Greenland that doesn't clearly discuss Greenland's relationship to Denmark is strange. Not once was it explicitly mentioned that Greenland is a part of The Kingdom of Denmark (now by choice), which makes Denmark a central player in the arctic too. I actually had a professor researching this topic via Camp Century (the biggest US camp on Iceland). Ok there he also was able to access Ice cores that no one had ever really accessed. He? This is about keeping China influence out. Once shipping lanes opens up there, Russia and Chinese ships will be circling Greenland. And the Chinese coast guard will be there protecting 1200 trawlers fishing right in view of you having your evening dinner at night. This strategic place is necessary for world peace. Over the years,, the US saved Denmark and basically Greenland too, not once but twice. I think it's a shame how they are interested in Chinese influence. I hate to see if 25 years from now China cross over and start dragging nets and taking away money from the fishing industries. I don't know why a dollar can influence selling your entire future down the drain but if the influence is there,,why shouldn't the US cut of all aid
Let Greenland go. And never protect Denmark, Greenland again and just drop out of Nato and all trade. If Greenland is going to take advantage of the biggest offer then let Chinese or Russia get it. AFTER All there lack of loyalty is obvious. And let them sell there country and future down the drain. The US can use all that aid money from Greenland and saved money from the military base for something beneficial in are own country.

As someone in the Space Force, I think you mixed up the intent of Thule Air Base. It's not meant to detect a Russian invasion over the arctic (a crazy idea that should never be attempted in the first place), it's meant as the newer version of the very radars you visited. It's a phased array radar site to detect Russian ICBMs. Due to the shorter distance between Russia and the U.S over the Arctic, Russian nuclear missiles have always been anticipated to fly over the North Pole. Thus, Thule is THE most strategically important base for the U.S in the event of Nuclear war. When it's not detecting missiles though, it's tracking space objects. Hence why it's becoming a Space Force base.

I don't expect that the Space Force folks are doing anything much different than the Air Force folks were doing during my PCS and TAD contractor assignments at Thule. I had two PCS and two TAD assignments there between 1976 and 1994. As best I could tell USAF provided security and communications for the entire base and all US tenants. Beyond that it appeared that there were a couple of officers and enlisted at the various facilities on base to serve as the front facing presence and mainly be contract monitors. The American and Danish contractors always outnumbered the USAF personnel and during my last tour it looked like the Greenlanders were becoming a larger portion of the non-American contractors. Maybe things have changed but it was always less expensive to have contractors than military working many of the jobs at Thule. SF or AF won't matter much.

Especially driving around the gravel roads around the base and taking in the glaciers entering the ocean across the fjord from BMEWS or driving up to the top of P mountain where the lone Picnic table abandoned there was still covered in ice in above freezing temperatures in August where the sun was shining around the clock. And of course the raging river running through the base fed by the melting polar ice cap. Meant to drive out to the ice cap one day but time was short and rumor was the road had been blocked off and it was another 30-60 minute hike from the edge of the road to the ice cap.

Puerto Rico has people who can make suggestions in congress but get no real vote. The 2022 last season of the Danish, brilliant political drama series "Borgen", is all about this conflict exactly. Raises all the issues about alcoholism and depression in Greenland's youth that you mentioned in your previous video.

Alcoholism helps to keep the people docile and dependent which is good, or you get too many funny ideas in a country where half the time of the year you are stuck indoor.

I am sure it would be facinating for the team to research or even make a video on the Norweigen Annexation of East Greenland "Erik den rødes land". Then furthermore how this conflict led to a new understanding in claiming desolate areas, and the requirement for Denmark to uptain sovereignty in NE Greenland with the Sirius Patrol.
I think this story is really interesting, especially in modern terms with the wish to be independant, how will the rules of desolate sovereignty work today.
