during the mask mandate, the spirit crew i had said “please keep your masks on as there is a 14k fee for breaking the mandate. if you are on spirit you clearly won’t be able to afford that”
Did they really? I would assume this is a joke but judging by this video and my last experience with Frontier ten years ago (when I ditched them forever for being horrible) I'm not convinced.
I had a frontier captain that said on the announcement "attention from the captains deck, these are your two VERY low cost captains speaking, the flight attendants are on their last leg of their shift today so we are gonna fly this plane like we STOLE IT" i laughed mega hard
LMAO that's hilarious. I don't know if this is common among US airlines but the crew are so entertaining. Here in Australia, while the crew are always nice and engaging, they're never joking around like I've seen from these US carriers which is a bit sad.
@@madamebkrtThe mainline legacies in the US are very serious (American, Delta, and United). Southwest and Spirit have a reputation for being more relaxed and down-to-earth.
@raelamaestra Yes, and I really don't see what's wrong with Spirit airlines. Other than a couple weeks ago hearing about some nasty lowdown passengers flying on them, but that's the passengers fault. And hearing about management forcing the pilots to go on strike, but then I read somewhere how that story was blown way out of proportion. You can't believe everything you read on the internet anyway, and I'm referring to the strike stuff. I think that there's nothing wrong with Spirit airlines. Whatever complaints have been made have been mostly made by Karen passengers, and the other issues it's had have not been that often, no more often than on other airlines
That’s false. Last month I bought a ticket to LAX for $15.14. I just went for two days. Packed a back pack, and allowed them to choose my seat. Nothing bad at all. I had CCD a NEO so plane was newer. Seats aren’t the best yet not too bad but it’s a cheap ticket. I do this a lot actually and they’ve saved me a lot of trip money
I'm about fly with my two kids this weekend so I decided to try spirit since I'm paying for three people. It makes a difference online but I'm still worried because I heard about Spirit having the habit of canceling flights last minute without notice. But fingers crossed for a safe and comfortable flight.
UPDATE: the flight went well. No serious issues. However, on both flights the boarding time differed about an hour from what they stated on our passes. I guess they wanted to make sure everyone boards on time. But dont tell me were boarding at 7:30am if we're boarding at about 8:30am. And no it wasnt a delay. We arrived on time for one city and ahead of time for another city. I'm probably missing something, but I havent had this done on any other airline.
I appreciate the fight attendant on the Frontier flight. I like her authenticity about the low level of service. At least she is honest about how basic the flight is.
I love the fact that Frontier flight attendants were trying their best for the lack of what the airplane actually had available to passengers. It always puts people in a good mood when the flight attendants are animated 😄
It’s a sorry substitute! They take your money and give you jokes instead of a comfortable seat, a pillow and an inflight meal! You get the bare minimum to get you from point A to B: fuel and a fuselage! Also the safety of flight is probably reduced by 50% of what it used to be!
I’ve had a phobia of flying my whole life . I’m nearly 40 now 😂 I recently wanted to overcome my fear and decided to take a flight from Las vegas to San francisco. I booked a flight with spirit . I informed the flight attendants that i was very nervous and that id never flown before . they made sure to check on my periodically & even offered me water . When I exited the plane they cheered for me and told me how good I did and one said “See I told you you’d make it , Stop playing with spirit “ 😂 Needless to say it was a wonderful experience for me and im happy I chose spirit because the crew made it so easy for me to relax ..Don’t sleep on spirit it’s not a bad airline at all .
Honestly, spirit is no different than any other economy airliner, normally. It can be a great choice if you’re flying without much baggage and not too far. But one in tenish flights will be delayed and you’re not gonna get the best help from customer service. Delta is more reliable, but Spirit definitely has its own role and I find it to be a perfectly legitimate and respectable airline. I’ve had round trip flights from the Midwest to the east coast for under a hundred dollars multiple times with Spirit without any problems
@@DeezyNLTUnited Airlines' little incident with a pulmonologist. Basically, an attendant chose four passengers to leave the plane. One of them was a doctor who had to see a patient the next day, so he refused to leave. He ended up beat up by security officers and had his face slammed against an armrest before they threw him off and the CEO called him unruly. The internet had a field day with this.
Just flew Spirit from Orlando to Kansas City. There was a medical emergency occurring on board and as a I and another RN and EMT assisted in patient care the crew were very responsive to our request. The crew was versed in basic care and the plane was equipped with extra oxygen, blood pressure cuff, stethoscope, emergency medicine, IV insertion needles and IV fluids. The captain was responsive to the need to land and have paramedics take patient to a medical facility. The staff on Spirit were GREAT!!!! After landing and heading home we received and thank you from Spirit with a discount on our next flight. The crew were a class act. And the captain was very appreciative and concerned for his passenger as they all were. The passengers were soooo supportive as well. All were respectful for the person experiencing this event. Not one complaint for the delay in their trip. Go passengers on this flight best people ever
My son just became a Spirit flight attendant and from what he told me, the training is very intense. He was in Las Vegas for a month with daily tests and if they didn't pass each day they were dismissed.
No need to be scared of flying, You have more of a chance of falling out of your bed and dying than Being involved in a plane crash! I’m only 14 and I’ve been on over 50 flights! On all different airlines all over the world! And not once have I been involved in a Crash or even a problem with the plans, I know it can be nerve racking but you have to rember these pilots have put their lives into training to become one! And they are all checked every couple months to make sure they are still top notch! So next time you feel scared just remember that everything will be ok! Hope that helped a small bit :)
@@murray3914 thanks for that. I get over the fear by watching vids like Noel's and reading things like your wonderful reply putting it all into perspective. I have to fly between China and Europe a lot but will take the long route via train through Russia when I'm not in a rush - and I do enjoy that journey so it's not much of a burden. I'll never be a confident flyer but the facts like you've highlighted makes it easier. Thanks for that reply tho, didn't realise the pilots are checked up on so often, so that's another fact to out my mind at ease the next time I'm flying ☺️

I think the company that made them used to make Folding lawn chairs. Or those flimsy plastic chairs that the edgy Aunt or Uncle bought on Wish to use for tailgating.
@@LMC-xz6qh you got that correct. Those seats are miserable. If you are 6 foot tall, it is pure hell crammed in Frontier's cattle cars in the sky! And water only comes in a bottle and you pay for that!
I am a flight attendant with Spirit. I love the job and love all guests… everyone has a bad experience one time on any airline but I truly enjoy Spirit.
I've never had an issue with them. I think it's people that go in there expecting a champagne flight and a foot rub and they don't quite get that. For the amount of money you pay it's absolutely fine. Maybe even a little better than fine
Unless you show up to the airport a little pressed for time, in which case they won't let you pass the check-in desk, and charge a $100.00 re-booking fee. Oh and they cancel and change flights without notifying you ahead of time so you show up to the airport to find out you don't have a flight. Their customer service is a joke, so don't expect to get refunded for them charging you an arm and a leg to re-book a flight that you wouldn't have missed to begin with. The only bad experiences I've had flying have all been with Spirit and it has ALL been them cancelling shit on me and then charging me for it.
@@giovannid1457 FYI They are really there for your safety. When crap hits the fan in the air and ends up being a ground emergency, they make your chances of surviving increase tenfold.
@@joeaardvark9214 unlucky... I've flown thousands of miles on spirit never once had an issue. I've changed flights, switched airports no extra charge no hassle. Oh and they have the newest fleet of planes, flew to newark last week right next to my 2018 a-330 was a delta md-80 had to be 20 years old ahh yeah ill pass lol
You were very lucky. The biggest problem with those airlines is delays and cancellations. When you look at the stats, you've got almost a 30 percent chance of a delayed or cancelled flight.
That's a very valid point. In my home airport, American is notorious for that. They give you a 35 minute connection time and a 72% on time rate with more than one option. I always end up choosing Delta. Most everything is through Atlanta but it's the same concourse and they run a well oiled machine.
@@getmeouttatennessee4473 I couldn’t agree more about Delta vs American. I have had horror stories on American and dropped my credit card with them because their service was so bad. I lived in the Virgin Islands for a year and they were the only option, other than Continental (which is now United). With American I almost always had to change planes in Puerto Rico when coming back to the states, whereas Continental had direct flights to Newark. I live in San Francisco, and usually fly Delta when I have a choice. I took them to Barcelona in 2020 and it was a pleasant experience. I love the fact they will reroute you when there’s an issue and they have so many hubs in the middle of the country- Detroit, Minneapolis, etc. it helps a lot on the way to the East Coast.
This is exactly the big problem. Yes, the seats suck and they charge for every little thing. I know that when im booking with one of these airlines. With that being said, my experience with frontier regarding delays and cancellations has been awful. When things don't go as planned, it all really goes to shit quickly. And getting any sort of customer service when things dont go as planned is near impossible.
& in the end it's only $20- $40 more expensive to fly on an airline that atleast has WiFi so u can watch movies, plug in your device get a personal & carry on for free & likely 1 checked for free.
As a retired airline employee I can tell you all how an airline should be judged and it's never when things are running smoothly. Judge an airline when there is a major irregularity.
Define “bad.” I’ve flown spirit many times for less than $100 and have never regretted it. Is it cramped? Yes. It’s inexpensive. You get what pay for. I arrived and am alive so who cares?
Frontier is evil when it comes to canceling and rebooking flights without any notice. I've shown up for a flight to find that they rescheduled it to 12 hours before the original flight. In other words, I arrived for my flight only to be told it took off 9 hours ago. I was told it was "my problem" and not given any restitution till I filed complaints with the FAA, TSA, BBB and trashed them on every review website I could find. I love Southwest, they got me home with no issues.
Wait 'til they move up your flight time by twelve hours with an 8-hour layover (on a 3-hour flight), put on hold for 40 minutes only to get your call hang up, spend a total of 3 hours trying to get a hold of a live person then be put on a standby, you won't be happy.
I’m a private commercial pilot here in the states and want to make it clear that spirit really isn’t that bad. You get exactly what you pay for and they make that clear. If you’re surprised by that when you get on a flight with them and don’t like the high carryon prices, the fact you have to pay for drinks etc, then you should just pay the extra cost for a United, southwest flight etc. most of the issues I find when I go on spirit flights are the passengers. A lot of them seem to always be rowdy and don’t like to follow rules. Then take it out on the cabin crew. It’s a shame.
I flew my first flight, three days ago. I was nervous but no more than I would’ve been with another airline. I’m thankful that their prices allowed me and my family to finally travel
@@genocash8436 same here! My family never even went near the airport it was just a dream or even worse. But when spirit came around we could finally go see family that lived over 1k miles away and even go on some sort of “vacation” while there. Never had a bad time on sprite and I’ve flown with them 12+ times now
The whole ultra cheap model was a path to raising prices by stripping services and adding them back as options at a higher price than they cost. Eventually even the base (stripped) fare creeps up as well.
I’d agree that most of their rowdy customer base are infrequent fliers. After already being stressed out after not knowing how to efficiently navigate an airport and then not expecting charges for their oversized carry-ons, it spread the bad word of mouth. Although I’d say by now that most people know what they’re getting into with LCCs.
I have always loved Frontier! I flew with an undiagnosed broken foot(I had 4 or 5 fractures in my foot) and the Frontier staff was amazing! They got me ice, let me have my bag in a good position for my foot, and arranged for a wheelchair when I didn’t ask for one, and needed it! They truly cared!
On the question of why they have such a bad name - I've personally always found low cost carriers pretty much perfect when things run to plan and you don't want anything above and beyond the basics. However, as soon as something goes wrong they can be a nightmare to deal with. The more established players seem to be a lot better set up to deal with issues/cancellations etc.
Jacob Greenwood I agree I am from the uk and most often fly easyJet as they literally have the best value flights and give me all I need, I have sufficient room and I get to my destination, so you can’t complain. I do find the big companies are better at dealing with things, but that is as they have more reserve aircraft as they have the money to afford it, and I find people hate on the low cost airlines as they always want to try and find something wrong.
Having experience with both the EU/UK and the US Low Cost carriers, the US ones are way worst. They are tolerable if everything is smooth, but if something goes wrong it turns into a nightmare. Also the upselling and the trying to get you to spend more money is way more annoying. In contrast the EU/UK ones are pretty much just no frills airlines. The more important thing is that the EU/UK ones are way cheaper.
I never flew Frontier or Spirit, but a friend of mine flew on Frontier and said she got the "First Class" seats - they reclined two inches! The other seats in the cabin didn't recline at all.
@@vicegrip_P honestly its my dream to become a pilot but most flight attends dont become one because its expensive to be one the best case scenario youre going to be 30-40k down the drain and are going to work all week to make 30k at the end of the year at the start of your carreer and you need a colledge degree to get into a good airline which alot of people cant afford there are many logistics to becoming a pilot and to some being a flight attending is better
xaifer, while the starting salary for pilots is pretty low, after just a few years, you can make like 70k at regional airlines, and then a few years later, you can easily be making six figures as a pilot. Ask any pilot out there, and the majority will tell you that they do it because they love their job. The joy of flying is enough, to be willing to start with a very low salary. And some regional airlines hire people without college degrees, who will typically fly the smaller jets, but if you want to fly the very large planes, across the whole country, or even all around the world, then the best path is an aviation university, where they combine professional flight training with a 4 year degree. These programs usually are very expensive, but if you take out a loan, and you finish the program, then you get to be a pilot, and you can pay off the loan after a few years. There are also airlines, that make a deal with you, where they 100% cover the cost of your flight training, as long as you agree to work with them for a specific amount of years.
The measure isn’t when things go as expected. In that instance, I find that most airlines are about the same. If you fly often enough, things will go wrong and that is when you’ll see the difference. The questions are; how frequently do things go wrong and how does the airline manage or mismanage them.
This right here!! Most of the time I fly with spirit I always manage get delayed over an hour and that level of consistency is the reason I always try to avoid spirit whenever I can.
Nice comment👍🏻People who dont fly often many times dont realise that. Same with the ammount of fees adding to your total cost if your flying for vacation with lots of luggage for example. And if its your first or only flight in ten years maybe with your whole family the amount disappointment and stress in that situation when youre left lost at an airport because the airline does not or can not care for you although it is often times their fault (overbooked flights for example) is so much higher than if youre a frequent flyer. And bad expierences with flying are often a constant reminder making you have negative emotions towards flying in general. If you fly enough to have missed a few flights and have spent a night on an airport bench you dont care as much anymore😂But it makes you appreciate service more and makes you give it a healthier balance against cost
Back when the Russia/Ukraine thing went up there was also a storm system on the East coast. I was on my way to Amsterdam (from Malaga) to connect to a Boston flight. I was already delayed by an hour. I got an email on my phone (as soon as I got data) at the gate telling me I was re-booked on the ATL flight, which was an even tighter connection. This is big shit when you're at an airport you don't know, are sleep-deprived, and just want to get home. I _just_ made it, thanks not to KLM but to the AMS airport staff that expedited me through the checks and called the gate to let them know I was coming. I jogged the length of Schipol and of course once on the plane the f*cking thing sat there for an hour, so I had to run in Atlanta too. Ah, the joys of travel... I was lucky in that I had access to email, otherwise I would have burned all the time trying to figure it all out at the xfer desk in AMS, and also I only had carry-on, so no luggage to worry about. This was actually the very first time I'd travelled light and it paid off handsomely.
I must admit when you said the seats were fixed on Frontier my first thought was disgust. But it's actually a fantastic idea for economy. They can make the seats smaller, which gives precious inches for leg room, and it stops people in front constantly moving their chairs back and forward all the time. I would gladly give up reclining for more leg room.
@@xcalibertrekker6693 That's unavoidable in economy. Most seats (on the same aircraft) are about the same width on all airlines because they can't make the plane any wider or narrower. The only way would be to change the number of seats in a row, which no airline does on these planes (they're all 3-3 in economy) because it would either be too thin for anyone to sit (4-3) or you lose out on 30 or so passengers and the seats become extremely wide (3-2).
The fact that they charge more for carry-on baggage than checked baggage is brilliant and helpful for customers. You don’t have people doing what they do on other airlines: trying to stuff all of their goods and chattel in overhead compartments. They board the plane in half the time and empty the plane in about a third of the time that other airlines take.
You must be a single person. As a mother who has traveled all over with my daughter, we can fit both of our stuff in one large suitcase but still always need to bring at least 1 carry on.
Spot-on brother! As a flight attendant with a different airline I totally agree with you & am envious of both these airlines for not taking shit from passengers. I often hang out near their gates just to watch them board. My favorite is when someone tries the "no credit card" game, and the gate agent plays the "then you're not boarding" game. Free drinks for you if you're ever on one of my flights 😁
I saw this as, Keeping the cabin emptier for more room for people. I know sticking a bag under a chair takes up legroom, so its kind of smart that if you're gonna charge for fuel/cargo weight, to incentivize getting it out of the way.
@@alainabunnell8432 - usually you have better chance in US if you keep travel within the LOW TIDES (February - the Thursday before Palm Sunday and mid-September - one week before Thanksgiving). Otherwise keep peeled to the SUDDEN OFFERS. ....and don't try to book TOO CLOSE to departure.
I agree. Spirit & Frontier 🐻 are fine for short flights. 2hr 2.5hr. I paid about $260 round trip; MCO to BNA May 2021. I checked 1 large bag. No serious problems. Decent weather.
As far as cost efficiency goes Southwest is great. When you book everything is inclusive, even taxes and fees and you get a free carryon,1 free checked bag, complimentary water and soda and a snack. The service is decent as well. the catch that some complain about is having to check in one day before the flight to secure a good position in line when waiting to board but at least you can seat with party if applicable for no charge
Southwest is my goto. Have been for over a decade. Like someone else said...my only grip is lack of direct location flights... I only rode Delta once for their direct to Atlanta. I guess also a bit of Pride that Southwest is based in Phoenix adds on to my bias.
I lost my flight from Vegas to Newark on Spirit. The person at the gate was a gem of a person. She helped me find another flight , kept out family together on the next two flights and didn’t charge me a dime. Her name was Mercedes.
The flight crew on Frontier was great. Theres something to be said about employees being to express themselves, and allowed to be real with you. Most of y'all are going to sleep anyways.. -whispers- "We're gunna watch ya sleep" Had me dying. Real recognize real.
@@ottomanfred2473 there not that bad. I fly them frequently. You get what you pay for, your not going to get cheap flights and Emirates quality service.
The only bad experience I had was when I had to wait two hours for them to get me my bags. Not sure if that was the fault of spirit or the airport though.
Same here, I used spirit as a last minute resort and it went fine, ofc nothing fancy but for the price can’t complain. However, their customer service is a complete different topic, it’s nonexistent
Give Frontier a try during weekly peak travel times, that is where they struggle. Taking the red-eye on a half-full plane is not a good measure of their performance capabilities.
Back in 2005-2007 I used to fly Frontier from San Diego to Ohio every so often to visit family. I don’t remember Frontier having those terrible seats or even being a discount airline. I really enjoyed my flights with them! They weren’t a discount carrier back then… were they??
Spirit cancelled my flight from Orlando to Atlanta for “weather” when no other airlines cancelled any flights and almost made me miss my grandmother’s funeral. They tried to not give me a refund.
For us, hating Frontier kicked in with our checked bags. When flying from NYC to Salt Lake for Christmas a few years ago, they lost all of our checked bags on the flight there. We got a full refund and it only took a day or so to get the bags back. I can hear you thinking "well that's not too bad".... until I tell you that they then lost all of our bags again on the flight back and this time it took over a week to get it back.
Yup but I think most people get aniexty thinking of the pressure of them being the go to during Emergency situations on the plane being in the exit isles
@@troyarrington5492 I guess to “reserve”, but I’ve NEVER had to pay to “volunteer” for an exit seat... They literally can’t start taxiing until the exit seats are taken. Sometimes I ask at check in & they’ll give it to you if it’s not filled because they need it to be occupied.
I'm a flight attendant for a low cost carrier. In my career, I did fly for a major for over 8 years. There is obviously a vast difference between full service and ultra low cost service. Like someone else said, you get what you pay for. Your fare buys you a seat only. You have to pay for everything else including water. I think a lot of people who flew years ago expect that same level of service. I love my job and have a lot of fun with my passengers, but I have had to explain these two big differences quite a lot to people. The most important goal of any airline is to get everyone to their destination safely and on-time. Unfortunately, we aren't always able to do that and that's what we feel bad the most for. 😞
I don’t think Frontier is too terrible. I laughed when I saw the seats myself, especially the trays. But it’s not like you get a tray of food, and it’s a great size to hold your phone or tablet. You get what you pay for, and when I need a cheaper way to get around, I’m grateful for Frontier.
Hawaiian Airlines uses the same seat for its B717 inter-island flights. The flights are all less 1 hr so the tray table size is no issue. You only need the space for your cup of water or fruit punch.
The 'you get what you pay for' is just a way if saying 'go ahead, abuse me!' Everybody has a bag, and the average height in this country is NOT 5'6", nor is it 140 pounds for weight!!! So don't configure the plane that way. Treat us like human beings. Just give us something that resembles our size and charge accordingly. But STOP ABUSING US!!!!
yeah I thought the worst was United lol. And the problem with them wasn't the people, but the work culture. Take care of the employees and they'll take care of your business.
Frontier was horrible even back in the day when I traveled with USAF service member husband. We needed cheap and lived out west, and even back then flight delays and cancelled flights were usual. There was another one then too called Rocky Mtn Airways, we called them Rocky Mountain Scareways because flying across the Rocky's in a crop duster would have been safer! I think they went bankrupt. We are spoiled now, and thank goodness my hubby's height almost always means we purchase an upgrade! :) Thanks for the video.
The first time I flew Southwest we had an entertaining flight crew. When we landed, after being instructed not to remove our seatbelts yet, we were told, "Not yet... Wait for it... (*ding* seatbelt light off) Get out!" 😂
would love to see more entertaining crew on Ryanair flights. there you either find the ones that are friendly and have a laugh, or the ones that just don't care at all.
Flew with Spirit for the second time in my life. First time, both inbound and outbound flight were delayed for 4 hours. Second time, the first one was delayed for 6 hours, second was cancelled. Ended up paying extra 500 dollars for another flight and a hotel at last minute exorbitant prices.
Other than the thinner seats, the reason Spirit and Frontier get a bad rap is their habit of cancelling flights with no recourse or refunds. You were lucky on these flights. The other issue is that although the prices, as you said, are roughly similar as the better airlines (which also have "Basic Economy" fares to compete with these airlines), the frequent flier miles earned are obviously more valuable on Alaska, American, Delta, or United.
Yep! I flew to DFW with spirit and it was great. Upgrade to the big front seats at the gate and it’s as low as20 bucks for a domestic first class size seat. But…my return flight…a horror. Spirit took off five hours late so I missed my connection (also spirit). They didn’t have a flight till the next day and they do not give hotel vouchers. And it took hours to find anyone from spirit to put me on the next days plane. Most personnel were gone for the day. So I had to pay for a last minute hotel room, long waits, no service, and it ended up costing me more than I saved with a cheap spirit ticket.
I fly Spirit Airlines all the time. I frequently fly them between Tampa and Atlanta, because it's cheaper to fly than drive. I've even flown them to Colombia. It was so much cheaper, and it gave me more money to spend on activities.
I flew once in Spirit to Colombia with my daughter. Pretty disappointed. Next trips were done with JetBlue. ... Love that airline; all the seats are like first class and it's not so pricey!
Back in the old days, the competition between airlines were how much more they can cheaply, comfortably and quickly they can get you to your destination. Nowadays, they are competing them among themselves how much they can delay, make you uncomfortable, and torture the daylight out of you before throwing you off at your destination.
I’ve heard on more than one occasion that low-cost airlines like Frontier are absolutely horrendous when flights are cancelled or severely delayed, offering little help to passengers and frequently leaving them stranded. My understanding has been that poor customer service has been a great factor in the low ratings (along with the exorbitant fees).
Lots of LLCs in America never had an accident. Frontier, Spirit, Virgin America, Allegiant, JetBlue, Volaris, Interjet, etc. People need to realize the low cost attitude on the service side doesn’t apply to the safety side, they’re extremely safe.
I love that cabin crew on the frontier flight. Friendly staff like that are worth their weight in gold despite the no frills nature of the flight itself.
The staff was extra nice because they saw you filming. Go undercover next time and see how fast you get thrown to the last boarding group and no luggage.
Two years ago, in May, I flew Frontier from Savannah to Denver, then Denver to San Jose. The flight was on time, made the connection easily in Denver and the next flight was just as pleasant. I had nice seatmates and landed on time in San Jose. The seat was a little hard, but otherwise comfortable and plenty of legroom. Bring a book and a fully charged audio device for entertainment. I enjoyed it.
I fly both frequently and my expectations are adjusted accordingly. I get where I want to go - on time - safely - often at a fraction of the cost. EVERY airline has nightmare stories so as long as you adjust your expectations it will all be fine.
I had a frontier flight with the same seat models as yours. They were the most uncomfortable seats I've ever been on. My bum was sorry and couldn't sit down at all and had to stand for mostly the entire flight to Vegas from SFO. The frontier flight back to SFO was much better because the seats were significantly more comfortable.
These two airlines seem to be perfectly acceptable no-frills airlines. In my part of the world Jetstar and Air Asia are clearly better with much cheaper rates for luggage and prepaid food. But they give you what they claim to give you. As for the "hate", I think that might be just empty talk. The Spirit flight was full, obviously not full of haters.
The one time I flew Spirit, my impression was much the same as yours. I think the airplaine I was on was equiped with the same (or at least very similar) seats to the ones you had on Frontier. It struck me as making all the right tradeoffs in a cramped seating arrangement as you said. I also don't know why people hate on them.
Because it's still extremely cramped seating, which isn't even necessary for the flights to be cheap. Look at Southwest and JetBlue, they are also low-cost carriers, but they offer more legroom than the "Big 3" legacy carriers. In fact, JetBlue offers more legroom in economy than any other airline.
@@wta1518 My experience at least price was is that Southwest or JetBlue charges more than Spirit or Frontier. Now granted like you said, there are more perks like more leg room, Southwest gives you two free bags (But no assigned seating which is why I am scared to fly with them. I picture it being like hunger games and everyone fighting over seats lol) etc. But I think it depends on what is important to you. The pain thing I look for is price and I am happy to give up a few extras to save some $ that I can spend elsewhere on my trip. Other people may say they would rather pay more money and get more leg room or bring more luggage and that is fine. We live in a free market and can choose where we want to spend our money.
I've flown Frontier several times. i had great experiences every time i flew with them. if your just going somewhere and basically don't care about all them EXTRAS then i suggest you fly Frontier. their planes are clean & new and the crews i had interactions with were friendly.
I love flight attendants with a sense of humor. The Frontier flight attendant was a real gem! I think Frontier and Spirit are perfectly fine for flights that are under 2 hours, especially if you only have a backpack for a personal item. Otherwise, as you pointed out, the extra charges add up very quickly.
I flew for business every two to three weeks per month for over 20 years. With discount airlines like these it’s hard to be critical and I can’t really say that I have ever had a problem with any airline. Just as you can’t pick your family, you also can’t pick the passengers on a plane which is were any issue comes from when flying.
Having flown Spirit I can say that I didn't like the lack of leg room especially having to sit for two-and-a-half hours. I would say that having to pay for bags would be another negative, but unless you're flying Southwest, all airlines have baggage fees. The other thing I didn't like with Spirit was the additional fees that tend to surprise you which if you're not a frequent Spirit flyer, can make you feel as if you've been "shaken-down". If I flew Spirit more frequently, I'd get used to this; however, I'm not sure I'd get used to feeling cramped. Loved your review. Cheers.
I recently had a Spirit flight attendant say on the announcement "for those of you that said they would NEVER EVER fly Spirit again...welcome back."

Spirit usually isn’t cheaper once you pay for a seat, luggage and oxygen.

On the question of why they have such a bad name - I've personally always found low cost carriers pretty much perfect when things run to plan and you don't want anything above and beyond the basics.

She needs to get onto the Emirates a380 mate
The pay is by seniority (how long you've been with the company)
The measure isn’t when things go as expected. In that instance, I find that most airlines are about the same. If you fly often enough, things will go wrong and that is when you’ll see the difference. The questions are; how frequently do things go wrong and how does the airline manage or mismanage them.
Perfectly said. Underrated comment.
I'm with you on that!!!
Seats are very narrow though if you sit next to anyone slightly overweight there is a good chance they will spill over into you area.
What's with those tray tables, though? I have never seen tray tables that small before.

It took my frontier flight 15 minutes for everyone to get off the plane, longer than southwest. 🤷

As far as cost efficiency goes Southwest is great. When you book everything is inclusive, even taxes and fees and you get a free carryon,1 free checked bag, complimentary water and soda and a snack. The service is decent as well. the catch that some complain about is having to check in one day before the flight to secure a good position in line when waiting to board but at least you can seat with party if applicable for no charge
you get 2 free checked bags with southwest
@@301jerm it’s awesome
My mom works for southwest and she’s loves it
The problem with southwest is not many direct flights to places
Southwest is my goto. Have been for over a decade. Like someone else said...my only grip is lack of direct location flights...
I only rode Delta once for their direct to Atlanta.
I guess also a bit of Pride that Southwest is based in Phoenix adds on to my bias.
I lost my flight from Vegas to Newark on Spirit. The person at the gate was a gem of a person. She helped me find another flight , kept out family together on the next two flights and didn’t charge me a dime. Her name was Mercedes.
This makes me sad, right before COVID literally ruined everything.
And before the world completely lost its mind.

The flight crew on Frontier was great. Theres something to be said about employees being to express themselves, and allowed to be real with you. Most of y'all are going to sleep anyways.. -whispers- "We're gunna watch ya sleep" Had me dying. Real recognize real.
The crew on frontier seem so so lovely!! I’d definitely choose frontier over spirit!!!
bucky468, I already know her! She’s so lovely, so is Hunter Lihas!! Just that Frontier is usually my best option! :)

The Frontier attendant was way too funny. I love her attitude! What a fun flight
I have flown once of Spirit. I didn’t think of it as “bad.” I accepted they just have a different business model and went with it.
Same, 1999. And I haven’t flown them since. Best decision ever.
The only bad experience I had was when I had to wait two hours for them to get me my bags. Not sure if that was the fault of spirit or the airport though.
Fine for a last minute quick trip in my opinion. Don’t raise expectations and you’ll be fine.
@@Red_Ryan_Red Yeah! Took a quick trip to Texas for 2 days. It was my first time on a plane and it went alright.
Same here, I used spirit as a last minute resort and it went fine, ofc nothing fancy but for the price can’t complain. However, their customer service is a complete different topic, it’s nonexistent
I like the giant vending machine that says “pharmacy”.
It is! Tylanol, Advil, mouthwash , etc. what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas!
Give Frontier a try during weekly peak travel times, that is where they struggle. Taking the red-eye on a half-full plane is not a good measure of their performance capabilities.
Bruh he can’t right now
Back in 2005-2007 I used to fly Frontier from San Diego to Ohio every so often to visit family.
Maybe they have a higher level of safety. Getting there safely instead of dying is my vote.
Almost made you miss the funeral? But they didn’t so all’s good right?
I wouldn’t have a problem with that. You’d be surprised how many aviation accidents are caused by “get there”-itis
They canceled my return flight can they do that
Typical Spirit. Refunds? What the hell is that? You're lucky if they a voucher.
Frontier feels more like a school assembly than a flight briefing lmao
“It was a pleasure watching you sleep tonight” 😂
That flight attendant is the best😀
Hello Fly Guy!
If you’re worried about leg room just volunteer for the exit seat 💯
Yup but I think most people get aniexty thinking of the pressure of them being the go to during Emergency situations on the plane being in the exit isles
Gotta pay for that
@@troyarrington5492 I guess to “reserve”, but I’ve NEVER had to pay to “volunteer” for an exit seat... They literally can’t start taxiing until the exit seats are taken. Sometimes I ask at check in & they’ll give it to you if it’s not filled because they need it to be occupied.
Usually cost extra to change your seat on budget airlines and they are usually taken up
@@SoKelly there is no requirement to have the exit row seats occupied.
That frontier flight attendant deserves a raise I loved that. Makes it light hearted and fun
Overheard on my last Spirit flight: "Don't worry about accidents. We're too broke to crash."
The 'you get what you pay for' is just a way if saying 'go ahead, abuse me!'
Everybody has a bag, and the average height in this country is NOT 5'6", nor is it 140 pounds for weight!!!
So don't configure the plane that way.
Treat us like human beings.
Just give us something that resembles our size and charge accordingly.
But STOP ABUSING US!!!!
I’ve traveled with those airlines both and I could say that the pilots have the best and most legroom on the flight
yeah I thought the worst was United lol. And the problem with them wasn't the people, but the work culture. Take care of the employees and they'll take care of your business.
@@PlymouthNeon never a truer word said, look after people and hopefully they will look after you.
I should think so en all, they are flying the fucking thing. But saying that it’s a bucket of rust but at least it got him there.
Love a crew with a sense of humor, makes you smile from the beginning of the flight which makes it feel like fun. Enjoyed the comparison, thank you.
The flight attendant is wonderful. She is an asset to this airline
The first time I flew Southwest we had an entertaining flight crew. When we landed, after being instructed not to remove our seatbelts yet, we were told, "Not yet... Wait for it... (*ding* seatbelt light off) Get out!" 😂
Mr Sparkle! 😄
Sounds like a Southwest crew. They've always been great, fun, & professional.
would love to see more entertaining crew on Ryanair flights. there you either find the ones that are friendly and have a laugh, or the ones that just don't care at all.
Had flight attendants do the same thing on an American Airlines flight.
"smoking and vaping is not allowed on this flight, you shouldn't have started in the first place" - southwest flight attendant
With the low cost choices I have found the few times I have gone its all about the crew. You get a good crew it makes the whole difference.
Well that Frontier attendant was fun, thanks for the emotional support during my wifi withdrawals. Couldn't have done this without you, boo!
I loved the frontier flight attendant
i love how when you fly you hear all the seatbelts clicking its like the best sound ever
Great response… you answered the question which was asked!!
Everything from the tiny little tray to the puke on the floor (yes literally) Spirit Airlines is a gutter airline.
Nothings worse than frontier!
@@pbgremy0079 Exactly.
Spirit # 1.
@@pbgremy0079 I frequently fly frontier and haven’t had an issue.
What tiny tray?!? Spirit has full size trays. You sure mean frontier?
I fly Spirit Airlines all the time. I frequently fly them between Tampa and Atlanta, because it's cheaper to fly than drive. I've even flown them to Colombia. It was so much cheaper, and it gave me more money to spend on activities.
Thing is when you get there you have to rent a car (which can cost as much as the flight!). but yeah, the convenience (and the clean car) is nice xD
@@pdraggy I have family and friends in Atlanta. So I just roll around with them. But renting a car is pretty expensive there days .
Colombia?! Nah I'm not risking that blood clot in my leg 🤣
gladitsnotme you know you can stand up and do lunges in the isles right?
As an 8 year spirit employee glad you had a good flight
Spirit is usually has tray tables smaller than Frontier! That is one of their old designs. Like here if Frontier is way better!!
I usually prefer Spirit as they have more destinations and the price is usually better, $27 to go from Detroit to Tampa!
Frontier has lawn chairs and tiny tray tables!
say what you want about spirit but in all their years they've never had a fatal crash.
@dauntlaspog !!! All im saying its cheap for a reason, but at least you wont die. Even the most luxurious flights cant say that.
Don’t curse them.
Yeah you probably jinxed then and its going to happen again. A
Lots of LLCs in America never had an accident. Frontier, Spirit, Virgin America, Allegiant, JetBlue, Volaris, Interjet, etc. People need to realize the low cost attitude on the service side doesn’t apply to the safety side, they’re extremely safe.
That's because midflight they open the baggage door and elt all your shit fly down onto some cornfield somewhere
I love that cabin crew on the frontier flight. Friendly staff like that are worth their weight in gold despite the no frills nature of the flight itself.
The staff was extra nice because they saw you filming. Go undercover next time and see how fast you get thrown to the last boarding group and no luggage.
8:18 Walked under a sign telling his where d gate is. 2 seconds later said “I don’t know where d gate is as there are hardly any signs”.
I’ve done that, walked past a sign and then promptly wondered where the information was...
😂🤦🏿♂️
Two years ago, in May, I flew Frontier from Savannah to Denver, then Denver to San Jose. The flight was on time, made the connection easily in Denver and the next flight was just as pleasant. I had nice seatmates and landed on time in San Jose. The seat was a little hard, but otherwise comfortable and plenty of legroom. Bring a book and a fully charged audio device for entertainment. I enjoyed it.
I love how much fun the Frontier staff were having!
Spirit is cheap and on time. I drank a double rum and flew three ours from Houston to Oakland
***New Subscriber ****** because you survived Frontier Airlines. I'm DELTA BOUGIE I could never fly any other airline. Enjoy the skies
Just flew Frontier. Nice to see they’ve retrofitted with smaller, harder seats:)
Awesome. I was a Flight Attendant for Spirit Airlines 20 years ago. All MD 80 fleet and we even had First Class seating called Spirit Plus.
Spirit flew MD-80s?
I love Spirit
Just as you can’t pick your family, you also can’t pick the passengers on a plane which is were any issue comes from when flying.
unrelated but what did you do that required that kind of travel? recent business grad interested in traveling.
Cheers.
