I think the point is, Brightline is not competing with cars. It’s competing with planes. I think it has an edge now since air travel is frankly agonizing.

Absolutely. I just went through a horrific experience flying American from Bozeman through DFW to Richmond. I just wish I could take a train from my home area to Orlando. The flying experience is one reason I’m canceling my January Disney World trip.

The drive from Orlando to South Florida is damn near a Fury Road experience. A train is a welcome option.
Agree 100%. Florida has the worst traffic and it's only getting worse as more people move down here. Even if car owners never use trains, it benefits them to have less cars on the road.

More trains , fewer cars; we absolutely need more and better mass transit! After taking the Brightline from Miami to Ft Lauderdale I found it profoundly relaxing not to have to deal with traffic- especially high speed traffic on I95 and the Turnpike!

@@electrictroy2010 Do you think that the public roads you drive on also cover operating costs? Roads don't generate their own revenue. Building and maintaining public roads is a huge investment without any clear ROI. It's the same way for train tracks. It's an investment in infrastructure which will increase overall profits of the country, as good quality infrastructure helps the economy grow in more ways than one. Besides that trains are a much cleaner and greener form of transportation compared to cars and planes.
Trains in itself don't need to be profitable when it makes the area around it more profitable because of better infrastructure.

Same. I live in Orlando and having to make that drive twice in a day is brutal. I had to make that drive after seeing Taylor Swift’s tour and barely made it back in time to get enough sleep to be at work the next day. If I want to do anything Busch Gardens, or even Halloween related where I’ll be there late, I have to plan on leaving early no matter what.
Please build it. A trip to Orlando recently was a nightmare.

I’ve heard some of the mega cruises they’re building now can’t pass under the skyway. So in a way the cruise industry is outgrowing Tampa. Still you’ve got a point tho

You could fly into Dublin and be in Belfast, Galway, Tralee or Cork in a few hours - and increasing numbers of Irish trains now have a first class option, just like here in the U.K. - I’ve tried the overnight coach from Manchester to Dublin via the ferry from Holyhead and it’s not good and it’s even worse on the overnight coach from London to Dublin via Holyhead

As a European it gives me great joy to see this kind of train available; granted it’s just the beginning but eventually it will catch on. The main problems, I’d say, are that tracks belong to diverse freight companies and second is the huge distances across the USA. In any case, I loved the video and hopefully will jump aboard very soon. Thanks for posting.
Don't get too excited, its more expensive than Europe trains plus, it only goes to the airport which is outside of town.... plus the flight is cheaper. No one will ride this at their pricing, I know I won't

@korneliacevasco9939 this is nothing like high speed rail. It's a slow train. The usa is decades behind Europe for a reason. Our cities are much farther apart and air is much more economical. Money talks. I absolutely loved the High-speed rail system throughout Europe. Beautiful views, awesome speeds. Sadly, this isn't practical in the US.

As an Atlanta native, having high speed rail lines linking us to Charlotte would be huge. If Brightline can do this, then I hope they build all over the US. We BADLY need this.
I think the biggest critique I would offer is that the Orlando station is at the airport, a great place for a stop, but service should be from city center to city center. One of the main advantages to train vs air travel is that airports tend to be very peripheral to population centers, while most train terminuses are in the downtown areas.
While this is true, I believe the placing of the station can fixed if Orlando builds a rapid transit line such as a light metro from the airport to the city center to make a seamless and quick connection from airport to city.
dr Orlando should be the 1st stop especially for travelers or at least the theme parks
I would ride Sunrail if it actually went to MCO .. the fact that you have to take the bus to get between the train and the airport is annoying.
Who wants to go to any US city centre? for example, have you been to San Francisco lately? It's like the set of a dystopian movie, but for real!

Car dependency is destroying cities, which are now devoid of affordable housing and basic services, while being replaced by surface parking lots and parking garages. This should be happening all over the US and across state lines connecting states. This will mean more job opportunities, etc.

City to City would be a great thing to have. No stops.
I really wish they would add some stations along that northern part of the track before it curves towards Orlando. As a resident on the space coast, we have this insanely awesome and fast train going right through our backyard but we can’t even utilize it without driving an hour to the nearest station. If they added a Cocoa or Melbourne station, it would be fantastic.

I just moved from Florida space coast to Puerto Rico but i couldn’t agree more!!! That would’ve been so ideal! This is great too but that extra hour to get to Orlando whether for plane or train is such an inconvenience. You’re spot on!

If ridership increases and demand is there they will probably add local services that stop at local, smaller stations as well as express services that only stop at big cities. This is what they do in Asia and Europe. So keep pushing and they might do it!
Good job Brightline, you making transportation much easier with reasonable cost. I will take this high speed train in the upcoming summer from Orlando to West Palm Beach.

It takes you to the Orlando airport and then what? You still need transportation to Disney World or your hotel. An Uber or taxi will probably cost you $50.

To me, the biggest perk of using Brightline is saving personal vehicle wear and tear while being able to work via WI-FI. Great video!!!
I think avoiding traffic, maybe not paying parking fees and convenient. There will be shuttles from the station to all the big places to go and hotels.
Also it opens up Orlando's airport to south Florida travels which might save enough to offset the cost of the train and or find a direct flight. Going to Europe or peru and the countries below it, a direct flight is really nice. It's 9 hours to Europe. Add a stop and your going to push it to like 15 hours airport to airport.
@theodoresmith5272 very good thought. Many people who have family in Orlando/Miami but traveling internationally from either airport can now look at this option to reach their destination easier without the hassle of a connecting flight.

I wish those areas that are troublesome, where people continue to believe that if they play chicken with the train they will win, having an elevated railway, just like they have at the Miami Central, would avoid all those troublesome crossing points, and speed up, cutting down on time. The USA, like Japan, could have “Bullet Trains” all over the place. But politics/politicians are always in the way
@@theodoresmith5272very true! Having that option to fly into a bigger intl airport hub in Europe with direct trains to a neighboring region (Frankfurt to Utrecht) was very convenient.
This is promising to see. As major cities in the US continue to experience housing shortages and affordability issues, I hope that we can see more expansion of our rail system. This would allow for more growth and development in areas just outside the cities and smaller cities nearby.

I was recently in town in South Florida from Maryland and I used Brightline to commute from Boca Raton to Miami. I was really impressed with everything that Brightline had to offer. I would use Brightline as long as they are still in business. Brightline is amazing feature to add to an already beautiful state of Florida and I hope they extend to connect the entire state of Florida. I heard rumors that Brightline is currently has in testing a faster train and also Tampa is the next station to add.

For real they need to make the express lane on I-4 from Orlando to Tampa
This new train service is fantastic for all the seniors, snowbirds and retirees living in South Florida. Many want to take their grandchildren to Disney World, but don’t feel comfortable driving with them on a highway or turnpike. The train also gives the grandparents more time with the little ones on the trip. I hope Brightline will offer seniors rates to help them visit Disney World. And hopefully, Brightline will have a stop close to Disney property to make it convenient for older guests coming from South Florida.
This train is for everybody at any age not just for seniors is for young ones

Your best bet is to rent a car at Orlando Airport.
@@mikeymutual5489 I hope they are able to connect Port Canaveral so people going on cruises dont have to rent a car to sit at the port while they are on the cruise because they flew into mco or even MLB and have no other option lol
I live in Miami and go to Disney very often. I love this idea because its more relaxing and stress-free.
However, being a couple with no kids....our drive to Orlando is usually a 3 hour drive. At a cost of about 80.00 (gas and tolls). So we plan to do a trip on Brightline for the experience, but I'm not sure i would do it all the time.
I have traveled all over Europe and using the train system made life so easy. I have always wondered why we dont have the same here in the US.

Excellent review! My son (8) and I are very excited for this opportunity. We're in Tallahassee, and residents here have been begging for even Amtrak to come back ever since we lost service due to Hurricane Ivan in 2004. We travel through the Orlando area about 3-4 times per year, and I'm already starting to think about a trip from Orlando to Miami to visit the zoo. My son's a huge train enthusiast, and I've wanted for years to take him on a train trip. This actually makes it a possibility!

"Too long to drive, too short to fly" is the perfect, practical reason for passenger trains. I hope this is an idea that takes off. Having used the trains in Europe, I know how great this could be.
But once you get off the train you have no ride
@@TheAnnoyingBoss I suppose no one will anticipate the needs of those exiting the trains. Cities won't rework their public transportation to connect to depots, rental car companies won't recognize a new customer base and provide service, Uber/Lift won't be interested...

Driving on the Interstate is too stressful and dangerous. Being able to relax and enjoy the ride is worth it.
The other factor that was not mentioned is the issue of weather. Since Florida does fairly frequently get thunderstorm, which make flights impossible and driving potentially dangerous, the train does make a lot more sense and end up more then likely being faster than both driving and flying.
Yeah, that too, also why they didn’t electrify the line to begin with, would’ve been very expensive to build electric wires strong enough to withstand that weather, it’s possible, but very expensive, and of course just takes longer too, pushing back the time for when service can begin.
@@ncard00 Japan has typhoons too but they have a government and companies willing to invest in rail. Brightline can’t afford a risk of no repairs in the USA due to lack of political will.
My wife went to Orlando this weekend with her sister and family. We priced out everything as she didn't want to drive. It was $100 and 3.5 hours to take Brightline. What a RIP! I checked buses and it was $45 and a shorter trip, 3 hours ten mins. They advertised these trains going super fast and they are a joke (so far). How could a bus get there faster than a train with no traffic and slower speeds? But the bus was right on time and she got their like 5 mins earlier than expected. So they can take these trains and shove them where the sun don't shine (Alaska)!
@@Fifth313ment Was your wife able to get WiFi or premium snack/lunch service on the bus? No? Where specifically in Orlando/South Florida was the pickup or drop off for this bus?
I’m still taking the train regardless, far more comfortable than a bus.
@gnnascarfan2410 the bus had wifi and charging ports at her seat. No snacks but I don't think snacks are worth $50+ more. The biggest thing is time and if the train can't beat a bus I don't know what is going on?
We have a drop off by 95 for the bus and it dropped her off by Universal studios.
I live in Tampa, I really hope they extend it. Getting from Tampa to Orlando in a hour while missing I4 would mean everything to me. Also just in general more trains need to be in use, cars are becoming an issue here in Florida

Let's assume you want to train from Tampa to Miami:
1) How much is parking at the antiquated station in Tampa and at what cost per day?
2) How do I get from the MIA Brightline if my destination is not recreation?
3) How many people will be killed per year in road vehicles crossing at high speed on the many intersections in the small Florida towns along the way? Were are at 5 that I am aware of this year just between Tampa and Orlando this year. Pretty cheap and easy to travel to MIA from TPA and the support infrastructure at each end is vastly superior.

I4 is a straight shot and there isn't much traffic until you enter the major metro area of Tampa or orlando and even then it depends on time of day.
No reason for trains except that they are a novelty. This one only is possible because the rail already existed and it's not really faster than driving by car. Again, the Florida interstate is pretty empty outside of the major cities. After the novelty wears off I don't see this being profitable.

Nice to know that this phase of the Brightline train is already working. It would be awesome to see the other phases done, too, from Orlando to Cape Canaveral and from Orlando to Tampa. It is very good to have this other option for transportation between our main cities in Florida! It was about time to do it!
I would take Brightline. Everytime I drive down to South Florida, I'm always in heavy traffic on I-95 or the turnpike due to a bad accident.
IF the train were to get in an 'accident' at one of the grade crossings, it would be stopped near the site for hours while the 'inspectors' investigated and ask nearly everyone on board "What did you hear or see?" That lumber truck was an example of what COULD happen from dumb drivers crossing the tracks as well.
Hope they can keep expanding this to Tampa and Jacksonville. And I hope other states work on more projects like this
Agreed. The car went from assisting Americans - to Americans assisting the car (urban sprawl /past city planning /highway systems leave us stuck without one) unlike Europe. 😂
They will keep expanding since it was the original plan before the private companies took over.

I’d go for it if they’d made a connection to Lakeland because the work commute to Tampa is rough and would love to avoid I4 traffic/accidents.

The journey is much more practical than using planes, even compared to cars in some use cases. It's the same time, but those who wants to get job done or just enjoy the ride instead of focusing on the road, its better. Plus, cars have unpredictable journey times depending on the time of the day, traffic and stoppages.
Yeah, and for buisness people, they really value time and being able to work while travelling.
A well planned train route is even better than a self driving car in traffic. I even get someone else to worry about the driving.

@@Elder-Bryant if you were taking the plane, then you’d be doing that anyhow. As for the destinations, the rest is up to the cities to improve urban planning (mixed zoning, public transit, etc).
Twice the time, less passengers, absurdly expensive to build per mile, and more carbon output per mile then planes. Just saying trains are not all that great.
As a train nut, I'm super excited to see this finally completed! I hope that 1. This finally starts getting more rail corridors like this built in the U.S., and 2., the success of this will hopefully lead to the Orlando to Tampa line being started on. (Perhaps Disney will finally see the value in a station on their property as well?)
Brightline will get to Tampa through or around Disney property in some way.
Yes, but they need to double track projects. Single tracking, though less expensive, is a shortsighted mistake.
@@mrxman581 I thought the only reason they didn’t add a second track was that they didn’t need it for initial operations. I thought all the pieces were in place to add a second track as soon as the projected growth would demand it.
@@jeffreysnyder290 I don't think that was the reason. It's cost. So they would rather sacrifice some level of efficiency for now until they start making money. I understand that, but in the interim the train can't run as fast. This video proves that because at one point the train had to wait for another train due to the single tracking. Yes, they might not need it now most of the time but it's also not a good look when the train is late due to some issue on that single track. No way to get around it which you would be able to avoid with a dual track system.

@@JSmith-oc5jh I know that trains are used in the US, but compare it to The Netherlands which is basically a state in Europe. We have trains going every 5 minutes on the busiest networks, I can get anywhere in the country with a train and possibly a short bus connection. The longest you wait here for the next train is 30 minutes, and that is on a trip to really small villages.

That looks fantastic! None of the hassle of flying and none of the stress and tiring of driving. I've traveled around the world and the US needs to rebuild it's passenger train routes. Particularly with an aging population that really cannot drive 5 to 8 hours a day safely and stay alert constantly.
I have young family members living in South Florida. After working hard all week, they would much rather get some sleep on the train instead of driving. Florida is not just for Seniors anymore.

Great video, thanks for an honest and thorough presentation in your video. It is of excellent video quality and editing.
I realize that building the entire line elevated would’ve been much more costly, but at-grade crossings have major drawbacks. There are people that make very poor choices in their driving judgment, people that are impatient, and sadly people that sometimes want to commit suicide. It’s a bummer because if the line has a reputation for delays, less people are likely to take it.
They could easily just not slow down and send Darwin awards to the families of the deceased.

It sounds simplistic, but we need to build overpasses or underpasses, to let cars and the train keep going, without any stops!
I used to be pissed there were going to be more trains crossing, but then I experienced a bright line crossing and it only took a few seconds.
@@matthew8153I've started lowering my windows while crossing the tracks, just in case the crossing gates and lights don't work.
I look forward to using Brightline in February. I'm going to fly to Orlando. Take the train to WPB to visit family. return to Orlando for a few days at WDW. No car rental, no driving. I can't wait to see how I like it. This train is almost like having a true robot car drive for you.

I love that they finally finished this. I really hope that Brightline, and passenger trains in general, expand greatly in the future so that I don’t have to risk my safety and my sanity driving a car everywhere.

Wow, they got this done surprisingly fast. Feels like not that long ago that I was hearing about construction and now it's completed. Gives me a lot of hope for the LA to Vegas project.
It is truly amazing what happens when you let a private company solve the problem instead of government project. The CaHSR system will be great once completed but this one in Florida is actually usable. 15 years ago we were 15 years away from the first leg of the project being completed. Now we're 10 years away from the project being completed, and in 10 years we'll be 7 years away from the completion date.

The california project has been stalled for years because of government red tape.
The California rail is going to take forever to get done. And by the time it finally does it will never pay for itself. For comparison, installing suicide netting on the golden gate bridge was years behind schedule and way over budget. It cost almost as much to hang nets as it did to build the bridge itself. Glad Florida was smart enough to reject the rail proposal and allowed California to continue to make poor decisions.

I'd pay for this. I think yes, it'd be great to drive and have your car but AT THE SAME TIME it's like you said, you can get work done. THAT'S the selling point. You don't have to worry about what time you have to leave to miss traffic. I think it's a great addition and I hope more get used across the U.S. A speed rail from here (Boston) to NYC would be AMAZING!
The Winter storms have been a problem for regular trains, I can’t imagine what would happen at high speeds.

Understand this is not a high speed rail. Those are so expensive to build and operate I'm not sure we ever will. Passenger drones are the future in my opion, and Dubai has set a goal of 30% of it's commuter traffic being passenger drones by 2030. Many companies working on this.

i worked on the orlando site as a sprinkler guy, did one of the parking garages by myself, i also fit the mains, and the bathrooms and main part of the station its so cool to see it finished! :)
I absolutely love your enthusiasm about these trains and this entire project. I felt the exact same way when walked through the sliding doors of the high speeds trains coming from Hong Kong Airport, 15 years ago. Finally we're catching up with our first line.
Can't wait ride that soon from Orlando to Miami me living in Orlando can't wait for sure to take it someday see family down there and go to dolphin games

As a replacement for MCO/MIA flights, I love it. As a south Floridian who's never done that flight in my life because I'd just need a car when I get to Orlando, it's probably not for me lol
As a German, I am totally fascinated by how you celebrate something that is common practice in every small town here in Germany. At the same time, I am also looking forward to being able to travel by train in Florida in the future.
Because American's (Who have never been out of the country) debate anything that's a threat to automobiles.
Distances in Europe are much smaller.
I'm certain that as Americans, they were totally fascinated by how Germans celebrated the unification of East and West as that is something that the United States had for so long.
Germans had an advantage, no buildings to get in the way of new rail lines, my Uncle helped with at as a belly gunner on a bomber, 28 missions. You're welcome!
The ICE is a wonderful system that perfectly integrats high speed rails with local rail systems. I've enjoyed taking advantage of it on several trips to Germany. Taking the train from Frankfurt Airport directly into downtown Cologne is wonderful.

I’m so excited for this. We have a transatlantic cruise out of Ft. Lauderdale next April with a week long stay in Rome after and driving from central Florida the morning of and paying for 3 weeks of parking then having to fly back to Ft. Lauderdale from Rome just to get the car would be terrible. Family can drop us off at this terminal in Orlando and makes our trip so much more convenient.
Freedom is having more travel options like your case! Certainly a more liberating way to start your vacation than driving the interstates. But carbrained Floridians think you should only drive between Orlando and South FL

As a Brit, this was really interesting as I've looked at doing some cruises either from Fort Laud or Miami, so having an option from Orlando without having to rent a car does make this a good alternative for international travellers. though its kinda of weird seeing a train trip being explained in so much detail, since this isn't much different from the trains we have all the time. I kinda think to make the trains more safer, you need the crossings to either become bridges or have fences come down when the train is coming, safer for everyone that way

The train system in Europe is so fine tuned and easy to navigate. However, as a tourist in Europe, I elect to get a car to enjoy all the "off the beaten path" things to see and I always hire a college student to drive me around.
I just checked on google maps and the crossing where the lumber truck was had fences.
They do have fences at the rail crossings.
Yes. Other train tracks have crossing arms that come down so drivers know to stop before the oncoming train passes. Adding them to Brightline tracks makes sense.

We live close to where that lumber truck was and hoo boy we sure did hear them laying on the horn. Great review. I'm stunned the stops were so fast, I thought they might be 10-15 mins each.
Why would they be 15 minutes? Even if every single passenger were to disembark, that would be a matter of 5 minutes at most. 1-3 minute stops are the norm basically everywhere in the world.

I plan take a round trip from where I live in South Florida on the Brightline one day soon when visiting Central Florida. I've driven up and back in a day and it a bit much. I've taken commuter rail in the northeast/mid atlantic before and is way more enjoyable and relaxing that driving. Good work.

The car is a way of life in the US, I get it. But here you have a chance to avoid road rage, traffic jams, and other hassles. What a great way go get a day in Miami AND Orlando on the same day. Pretty freaking amazing!
Fantastic presentation, Brayden! Driving in Florida is agonizing. We are used to options and convenience in the U.S. and so having travel by rail take so long to construct is flustering to the mind. I used to live in Chicago and would take the train into the city along with my bike. Cycling and traveling by train provided a whole other life experience and perspective of the city around you than traveling in a car. It was healthier in many ways both physically and mentally. Quality of life went up with alternative modes of transportation. I'm excited to try Brightline soon.

Good coverage! Trains bear the pants off driving and flying. As you said, even if it doesn’t save time, the rides are so much more relaxing and enjoyable.
I’m doing trains from now on. If I can’t get there by train, I guess I’m not going. A long drive in August stressed me out so much it took a week to recover. My last experience flying has made me swear off flying.
@@birbluv9595Same, I do’t have a drivers license here in Denmark, scandinavia europe, so that’s easy, and I only fly if the trains takes over 6 hours, and I don’t really like night trains.
people are starting to realize how train travel was 60 years ago. history is repeating it self. the country is better off with more trains. they are clean energy, and move quickly and safely, you are relaxed, there's food, bathrooms, LEG ROOM and even sleeper cars on longer trips. the main downside to trains is cost and grade crossings, cost... cant do much but if you built more bridges for cars to not effect rains then yeah, way more sense

I work for Marriott regionally on the East Coast mostly in Miami through Palm Beach. I dreaded the days I would drive up to 6 hours a day from Miami to FTL and back with rush hour traffic. I look forward to be able to make my work time productive on trains instead of driving and taking calls.

An accident on the turnpike changed travel time from 4 hours to 6.5 hours one morning from Tampa. I will happily drive to Orlando the day of or the night before and take Briteline to Miami. This is game changing.
I love that the snack menu has reasonable prices. One of the things I hate about AMTRAK is that all the concessions on the train charge crazy gouging prices. Imagine if you knew when you got on an amtrak you could get a very good hamburger or hot dog and a soda for a very reasonable price. Not only would you be more likely to purchase, but the whole train experience would be more pleasant. Knowing that I'll be gouged for food on the train just makes me want to take my car instead.
Say what? Im looking at Amtrak menu right now. The most expensive thing are the sandwiches and burgers for 7.50. Everything's super cheap.
@@eric3434 Last time I road Amtrak, cheapest thing on the menu was a crappy $9 hot dog, roughly equivalent to what one would get at a 7/11 for $.5. If they fixed that, it's too late for me.

@@eric34347.50 for a sandwhicg isnt cheap. My samdwhich is 7.99 but its only that much because i get one thats 2 feet long so i chop itnup and rewrap it and i ration it for 2 or 3 days and so my expense is actually like 75 cents each sandwhich. The guy i get them from makes 100 in a batch so they have all the toppings i just add the mayo. Im talking it has two meats two cheeses a quality long and wide bread. Lettuce, poppy seeds, other seeds i dont even know the names of bro and it costs me i eat two segments per day for like 1-2 dollars. So its not cheap. A big mac costs a little bit more and its overpriced. You eat that sandwhich or a big mac in one sitting and i have a sandwhich that laats me 2 or 3 days for the same price and i eat 2 giant pieces every day
