Note: I paid a total of $305.49 to ride in Premium class each way + parking at the Miami station ($7).
Base prices for Smart start at $79 and for Premium start at $149. However, booking close to departure can show higher prices. I’ve seen $200+ for premium on same day.
Brightline does offer a deal for families of 4 which gives them 25% off their booking in Smart class only.
Feel ripped off?
I would not feel ripped off at all. Far better than I-95 or the Toll Road.@@wronggg
May I ask how long was the journey back to Miami?
@@gnnascarfan2410 I didn’t time it because I was editing this video but it was definitely faster. No unplanned slow downs, hit top speed out of Orlando.
My biggest issue with Brightline is you can get a round trip econ flight from Miami to Orlando for $188 vs $158 for Brightline or $378 vs $305 for first class for a third of the time. Granted you probably have to get to the airport a bit earlier, but I feel for the time savings Brightline has to be more competitive.
I was born and raised in Miami and took many many road trips to Disney well into my 20s. This was always a dream and I never thought it would happen. I'm going to have to fly down just to experience it.
This is the future of the U.S! We need high-speed trains that go between locations that are too far of a drive and too close to fly. I would even argue that longer routes would definitely be a better option to flying in some cases.
That’s where high speed night trains come into play.
@@ncard00 oh yes exactly! Imagine a high-speed, long distance train from Miami to New York! I can see some major revenue there!
I agree with you but this isn't even high speed rail.
Orlando - Miami , LA - Las Vegas , LA - SFO , NYC - DC all these routes suppose to have bullet trains. Glad that atlest they started with one.
@@KRIPSYNODUTS this doesn't qualify as a bullet train, they are keeping it at 79MPH
118mbit wifi download on a train, wow that’s impressive, the new starlink connection has really made a difference, wish our national rail operator here in Denmark would also implement it on their trains. In fact, I just mailed them, the swedish national operator, and Amtrak about it, and sent along Brightline’s press release, in which I read that they’re the first, and only, rail operator in the world to use this technology, what a game changer, for planes eventually too. Still nothing compared to fiber, which I have at home, but for people who will never get fiber, and haven’t gotten fiber yet, this technology is incredible.
As a born Orlando resident turned SE Florida this price is outrageous. I can see how it will work for tourists that don’t know how to navigate or want to rent a car and cost to keep that rental at a hotel. For locals the price just isn’t worth it.
This is so awesome!! Hopefully Brightline starts working to create a network of these trains throughout the US. It's what we NEED!
Great report. So I read about the things you experienced on your trip: there was a cab signal failure that kept the speed of your particular train to 79 mph on the 125 stretch. Luckily it only affected that one run as you saw on your return trip. Also, I learned that the speed is being held to 90 mph on the FEC 110 mph segments for some trial period before the FRA signs off on 110 mph operation.
Makes sense, there’s also fewer round trips a day for a month or so, before the full total of 16 daily round trips enter service, really should be 40 round trips a day with 10 cars on each train, but gotta start somewhere.
@ncard00: I doubt if inital ridership would support 40 daily roundtrips. Brightline will be lucky to fill the trains running now.
Is that why speeds are currently at 3 hr 30 min? I remember them officially stating a full one way trip would take 2 hrs 59 min, it even was on their website before the booking times were updated. I was confused
You are right on. Brightline lied when they promised a trip at less than 3 hours just like Amtrak was full of shit when it initially promised a 3 hours Acela trip between NYP and BOS that takes nearly 4 hours today. Anyway Brightline better speed up because it faces stiff competitrion from cars and planes.@@dontlookatmypants
Thanks for the update. Liked that surprise interaction with a total stranger. Looking forward to more...
Man this is exciting. I wish the train had a longer segment where it runs 125mph. OH well. Hopefully the west coast route starts construction soon.
That’s what’s great about this line, it has huge upgrade potential, like double track between cocoa and Orlando, electrification, more grade seperation, longer trains, and so on.
Its not true hsr, but it got completed earlier because of that
This is great for the state of Florida in general. They just need more stops to connect the whole state as a community.
Thanks for being there and sharing. 🚂🚃🚃🏝
those "cheese and tomatoes" were a Caprese Salad :)
Thank you for including the speed so frequently on along the way between Miami and Orlando. I didn't know before this that Miami to West Palm Beach was restricted to just 79 mph. I thought all the at-grade sections were to be upgraded to 110 mph. I never heard the Diesel in the premium coach on the way to Orlando and the train never went over 79 mph. On another video when going 125 mph in the premium coach the Diesel noise was annoyingly present and the creak and rattles of the Venture coaches where making themselves known. It maybe the lead Diesel is not used at full throttle unless needed for high speed to keep noise down in the premium coach. The double level Amtrak Superliner II cars are rated to 125 mph and are much more comfortable and quieter than the Venture coaches.
The brightline trains do not show up on google maps when searching for trips with public transportation between all the different stations/cities where Brightline has service. Please share this information with Brightline leadership and staff and people you know, so this issue can be fixed quickly.
Loved seeing this! Thanks for sharing. It looks so nice. Wow.
Thanks for watching!
Excellent review of the Brightline extension! Hope to ride it one day
Thank you!
I was waiting for this video for sometime. Thank you for sharing your experience.
Finally this is here! I could have used this twice in the last 2 years but it was never available. Happy to see others are going to be able to use this service
It’s good I’m eating lunch while watching you eat all the snacks !!
Nice video. I hope this succeeds. I live in Altamonte Springs so it's a 33 mile/40 minutes drive to OIA, plus tolls and$4 /hr parking OR $35 Uber each way. It's an expensive proposition, but I honestly hate the drive so I'll probably do it. I'll be glad I did on the return when I'm tired.😊
Great video Joel! Here's to hoping you can cover Rancho Cucamonga to Las Vegas on Brightline West in 4.5 years!
fast shuttle for casinos
A caprese salad on an American train? My favorite!
Great video Joel. And you were prepared to measure the speed. I loved it.
Can't wait to take brightline from here Orlando to Miami great video
Absolutely a most excellent vlog!
Traveling in Premium is not cheap, and although it takes more time than flying, it's a much more enjoyable experience.
Yeah, this is a luxury service for buisness and leisure travel, not commuting.
Great vid!
Amazing! 👏👏👏
That space dust is cool beer. . .its nice .. thanks for the info, speeds..
Fort what it is worth, looking at flights from Miami to MCO just now and I can book a round trip flight for $81. Flight time is about an hour and 15 minutes. I can also drive from Miami to MCO in about an 3 hours and 20 minutes.
loved your review. objective and very transparent
I really wish they would electrify this corridor. Also, I do think if they want to keep the frequency up they're going to have to make their own right away without as many crossings as there are right now. I also really really really hope they extend sunrail to the airport. So then the transfer between Amtrak and Orlando and brightline is as seamless as possible.
Why? doesn’t that sound extremely expensive and something that will slow the entire project down? when in reality we just need the tracks to be built and a steady stream of passengers actually using this service. Electric wires are going to be a problem, since this is Florida and a hurricane will hit it eventually. So where do you spend your money to maximize the functionality of the rail? That’s precisely the reason a private company is better than the government for a project like this.
They don’t own the track, it’s under FEC control, and also the long distance and few stops make it less appealing to electrify. If they add 5 more stops and also expand to Tampa, then you might see some type of electrification talk because of the number of speed up/slow downs from stopping
Love it ! Thanks 🥰💗🙌🏽👍🏽🇵🇷
Great video..very informational...lots of great video footage too... I wish they would have a Brightline between Naples and Fort Lauderdale...
Great video !! Englishman here. 2 things that surprised me. 1) Security? What? It's a train? & 2) 79mph is very slow. Is there any chance they will up-rate the infrastructure to allow faster rolling stock in the future? UK mainline speed is 125mph and by European standards as you probably know, that's considered slow. UK highspeed rail does 225mph. I presume this is because brightline uses freight standard track or?
Security is cause it’s the US, and they don’t want people bringing their guns and stuff onboard. And as mentioned in the video, the speeds reach both 110 and 125mph, but this train didn’t for some reason, but did on the way back. It’s cause of the many crossings that the train can’t go any faster, but it’s still faster than cars stuck in traffic, and all about the experience.
This. The leg that has 79 mph limit has a bunch of crossings in South Florida. Where we were supposed to go 125 mph (did so on way back) has zero crossings. That’s new track built by Brightline between Cocoa and Orlando.
@@JoelFrancoVlogs125mph* :) 225mph, wow, that would be even faster than the new Amtrak acela trains’s 220mph top speed.
@@ncard00 yeah 125! Sorry 😅
Very nice! Florida is doing great work to bring transport to the masses. I'm in Miami next year for the second time. I think I'll take a ride!@@JoelFrancoVlogs
very nice to see a train station at the airport. even if not everything is perfectly connected now, give them some years to improve bus systems, train connections with local trains to the new stations etc. even in train country Switzerland it took a lot of years to build the connected system of today. 👍🏻☀️
“I am sure you’re all familiar with plantain chips…” Everyone here in Colorado is like 🤷♂️. Great fun and a big thank you for letting us share this awesome trip. It would NEVER live in DeSantis Florida but I definitely want to take a Brightline trip! 👍
Perhaps you will prefer messed NYC? Or fentanilo avenue at Philadelphia? I hope De Santis stays for long..
Wow!! Thnx for the review!!! Sounds quite nice! It is a bit expensive……i live in miami….my son lives in Orlando……i would love to visit more often….& i do hate driving……. I did drive my tesla & it cost me $16 to get there…..but $25 to get home using the superchargers….(price changes per kw/hr after 12p)… i do work for an airline….. so the cost there is $0 for me (standby rate)…but usually the flights are pretty full, so there is no guarantee for a seat! I just found out that they do give airline employees a 20% discount….. i do hope this succeeds! We need more of this…. Fingers crossed for a thriving business!!!! 😊
The weird thing is how they do a airport style security check. It just seems kinda dumb and a hassle to deal with.
we came in 20 minutes late .. but i had food and drank while on the train .. Have Fun in Orlando . PS they agreed to Rebuild the Bridge in Saint Lucie / Martin County that the train was going the speed of 25 . But i do not know when Construction will start . Then the train will speed up there then after the rebuild i bet. I wonder when Brightline will start Construction of their Future route even Closer to the Parks of Orlando and headed to Tampa area .
Great review. How much do the snack boxes cost for regular customers?
cool video i was there over in may i saw brightline in stwert was going 110mph on test run
I will be taking Brightline in May to Miami
If you just parked in The Orlando Airport near Terminal A or B, or someone was picking up there, are you taking the city bus or shuttle then You can take the people mover to get to terminal a or B
Glad there was a food upgrade from the horrible egg salad and cookie combo -- oh man.
Is there a double set of tracks so trains can go in both directions simultaneously? We can't really see the rails from the 528 Beachline between Orlando and Cocoa to see the actual rails if you're in a regular car and view the train as it goes by.
Hi Joel, I follow your RUclips chanel and I love when you talk about old history of Florida cities and also when you post old pictures, i believe you are the only youtuber to do so. I have a request, I think it will be very cool and interesting if you make videos about the history of the diferent neighborhoods of Miami ... Im from North Miami and I fond fascinating that back at the days it was called Town of Miami Shores, them it changed the name as North Miami, also in 1891 a guy purchased 80 acres from the State of Florida at one dollar an acre in the area of today’s N.E. 116th Street and Biscayne Boulevard. The place was so remote that his nearest northern neighbor was thought to live in Ft. Lauderdale... please make videos about these 🙏🙏🙏
do you need to walk to main terminal for rideshare pickup?
If you could, make a video showing the procedure for navigating between Brightline's & Amtrak's passenger rail stations, both: in Miami & in Orlando. Including future plans, using public rail transportation methods. Thanks.
Edit: consider making a "round trip" video, via Amtrak from Miami to Orlando, then return back to the Miami starting point via Brightline, then back to the Amtrak Miami station: comparing speed & pricing.
Navigating from OIA to downtown Orlando would be cinch if local and state politicians would get off their asses and extend SUNRAIL to the airport.
How was the ride quality? Was premium class infested with noise coming from the diesels as one review noted,
Do a Santa’s Enchanted Forest video this year
I’m gonna take it in November
What app is that for showing the speed?
Information and presentation are excellent. Thanks for sharing.
I wish they used the MCO for the Orlando code. I know it’s not an airplane, but it does go to the airport.
I was in the airport just two days ago, but two days too soon to use the train !!
I’m walking distance from the route. I’m 36 miles by road to the West Palm Beach station. Maybe there will someday be a station near me. Maybe there won’t: no current plans for one.
Thanks for monitoring the speed. I am very disappointed that the train didn't zoom past cars doing 110 & 125 mph. I'm curious to know why train didn't reach maximum speed especially since it was running late. Brightline initially said the running time between Orlando and Miami would be 3 hours but I see that was a lie. How you gonna compete with cars at slower speeds and already running late?
Seems to be because the rails were shared with freight and it seemed to be a busy day on the rails.
Passengers traveling on business expect OTP. What is Brightline gonnado when 16 trains a day are running each way?@@MBT06
What you usually get in aMerrika: lots of hype and style over substance.
The segment along 528 is single-track, and protected by a custom block control system with an intricate (and slightly brittle) handshake upon entry. Our train failed the handshake, and was limited to 79mph along the segment as a result. 😞 We were allowed to go faster (89mph) along the north-south FEC mainline tracks shared with freight trains because they're double-tracked.
Wow! How many ? Snack boxes just do they give you when you’re on premium one for each segment ?:)
One between Miami and west palm, and another between west palm and orlando I think.
Did you do anything in Orlando while you’re there besides this train station? If not, state so , and I’ll give you ideas for your next trip.
What's that stuff on the windows preventing a clear view outside?
The train had a wrap advertising Orlando. You can see it when I come on and off.
Are pets allowed besides service animals?
How come on the news and people that record the train inside say that the train was going 125mph now I'm confused.
It went over 125 mph on the return, which is included in the video. However, for some reason on the way to Orlando they had a speed restriction
@@JoelFrancoVlogs oh ok
What's the point of measuring speed when the arrival times are pre-defined. If the train is set to arrive at 3:30 to West Palm Beach, the train won't get there any faster, maybe a few minutes. So who cares it train can reach 125MPH, they will control the speed so the arrival time goes as scheduled.
So it's just a high speed internet train, not a high speed train, ok LOL!
It is high speed, for a portion of the route, meeting the lowest standard for high speed trains. But you gotta start somewhere, there’s always future potential for electrification, more grade seperation, and faster speeds, but cost benefit wise it doesn’t make sense.
@@ncard00 It is "high-speed" for 10 minutes or so. Splendid.
They left off the Aventura stop @0:45 ??
Only put up the main stops I guess. They also left off Boca Raton
First!!!!! Can't wait to watch
What's the app you are using for the speedometer?
Doesn’t matter, just search for speedometer and download one, or the one with the highest rating.
Oscar Alejandro is awesome. I mean you bumped into him and he was gracious enough to gift you the limited version souvenir. I liked this video and the experience seems fine overall although I don't think I will ride the "killer train" in a minute. I do like it but the bad publicity Brightline has been receiving makes me be hesitant on riding it ever again
These train stations seem to have so much wasted space. Do chairs really need to be multiple feet across and ceilings thirty feet tall?
The only people I see at the station are in that picture of people at the station.
👍🏼
The station was opened in 2017 but the actual terminal C has opened for a year
We need a station in Cocoa Beach!!! How can the Brightline, ignore that fact???
That round trip cost more round trip than to Nashville 3 plus hours that's not counting all the cars crashing to the train for less than half you can fly to Orlando 45 minutes I knew if this was expensive it would be crap
Do you get a snack box for each stop?
No, 2 in total I think, between miami and west palm, and then again between west palm and orlando.
Is it close to rental cars?
It is. Filmed it in the part showing me walking to Terminal C
Next time can you show how to connect to the rental cars from Brightline?
You can see it towards end of the video when I’m walking to the rest of Terminal C. The rental car center is not a far walk from Brightline.
Part 2???
Showing what?
@@ncard00 Orlando to Miami when he hit 133 mph
I saw on the news that the train from Orlando to Miami struck and killed someone in Miami.
Nope, it was a different Brightline train... and it was a suicide. If someone decides to jump in front of a train, there isn't much anybody can do to stop them. When someone kills themselves by jumping in front of a train, don't pity the person who killed themself, pity the poor traumatized engineer who's going to have nightmares for the rest of his life from something he'll never be able to un-see.
I hope we spend the infrastructure funds wisely. HSR should be the future and not just have planes as the only way to get to places more efficiently.
Planes and cars aren’t the main issue, dependency on those modes of transportation is the issue, people should have as many options as possible, like cycling and busses too.
That's pretty slow for a high speed train. I was in China, and there high speed trains go over 300 kph and much quieter.
The amount of money it costs and time it takes makes it pointless. Not to mention that you'll wait in traffic in Orlando since it doesn't bring you anywhere near downtown or Disney. A car makes so much more sense. I'm glad Brightline exists, but I won't be surprised if it goes bankrupt.
Americans want to mimic Europe so bad when it comes to high speed train travel but clearly Amtrak is a perfect example of what happens when we try to nationalize anything.... the key to bringing high speed rail to the US is through privatization. I can truly see this expanding to other cities as time goes on. Maybe even new companies popping up to compete with Brightline. For once, I actually have hope in the future of this country lol.
The screens over the windows obscuring the not so spectacular views are very annoying.
Agreed
@@JoelFrancoVlogs They have a purpose though. They decrease the use of the AC in the train, are easier to clean if they get dirty, and are inexpensive. But I do think they should have a section of the screen that is clear. Maybe a line that splits the upper and lower half of the window.
@@MBT06 Brightline normally has them as a strip at the bottom of the window.
Electrify the route

The only people that hate it, don't like that it was built with private money not with government money.
This looks like a uniquely American train experience, partly because how closely it feels like an airline experience: baggage drop off, security checks, security announcements, etc. Brightline stations have an airport feel about them, and not just the one that's within an actual airport terminal. Will it convince Floridians to ride it? I've no idea, time will tell.
It killed someone along the way running into them
That was a southbound train from WPB to MIA. Not related to Orlando service. I heard it did delay the first train up though.
Were you on the train that killed somebody?
No. That was a southbound train not related to Orlando. It was going from WPB to MIA
The train didn’t kill anybody, it was the person’s own fault, most likely suicide.
To expansive..
It's definitely not expansive, only one route between Miami-Orlando and the future leg to Tampa is not even built yet. Though if you meant to say expensive, then yes it is.

I got on "Slow Orange" in Fort Lauderdale on Friday afternoon. I don't recall hearing any announcement in coach 3, but the disappointment along 528 was palpable. You could see a bunch of guys getting all excited, with their phones ready to capture the expected cheer when we broke 100, 110, 120, and 125. Except... it never happened.
After going under 528, you could hear people saying, "well, maybe we have to be west of 95". We went through the tunnel under 95, and... still 79mph. As we approached 520, there was some hope that maybe *that* was going to be the magic moment it happened. Nope.
By the time we went over the curved flyover around the exit a few miles east of the airport, the cold reality and disappointment sank in... 125mph wasn't going to happen.
Then, there was the near-catastrophe at the station when they couldn't get the doors at the top of the platform's escalator unlocked, and people heading up the escalator (from the fully-sold-out train) were literally 4-8 seconds away from falling backwards into the people behind them because they couldn't get off at the top.
The ride home was a huge disappointment. After bending over backwards to make sure my seats were forward-facing, and getting an agent at the station to double check and reassure me... we pulled out of the station backwards anyway, and I spent the next three hours in hell. So far, Brightline has refused to even acknowledge my email complaining, let alone apologize or offer anything to make up for ruining my return trip.
Before last weekend, I was planning another trip to Orlando on Brightline in a couple of weeks. Now, I'm not so sure. Brightline's general customer service attitude right now seems to be, "tell it to the hand, we don't care".
I've spent *years* evangelizing for the Church of Brightline, and at the moment I'm feeling kind of like Leah Remini after she became disillusioned with Scientology.
Brightline also has a bunch of REALLY vicious policies:
* The $10 fee they charge if your carry-on weighs more than 40 pounds. Seriously?!? There are AIRLINES with a more generous weight limit. We're talking about a TRAIN that weighs hundreds of tons. This fee is pure shameless profiteering, and I *guarantee* it's going to cost them more in lost future repeat business than they'll ever collect in one-time fees from it. They'll hit someone who has a 42-pound bag with the fee like a lightning bolt from Zeus, and that person will NEVER take Brightline again. If your bag meets their dimensional limits, and you're able to carry it and lift it over your head without assistance, it shouldn't matter to them whether it's filled with air or concrete.
* The VIOLENTLY expensive, coyly-alluded-to penalty they hit you with if you miss your train. They cheerfully say that if you miss your train, they'll "rebook you on the next train" and "credit your original fare", without coming out and saying, "if you miss the train, we'll charge you the most expensive last-minute walk-up price (like $249), then sneer as we credit the $79 you originally paid, ultimately doubling or tripling your fare".
To see just how bad it is, book a trip on Brightline, then right before you enter the station, go into the app and check to see how much it'll cost to take the next train instead. THAT'S how much they'll rape you for if you miss the train.
If you have to leave your house 2 hours before departure to avoid missing your train, getting raped, and having your vacation completely ruined before it even begins... a huge part of Brightline's value proposition goes up in smoke, because your 3 to 3-1/2 hour trip has now turned into a 5 to 5-1/2 hour trip... with all the stress of knowing that even if you safely make it to departure, you're still just one rental-car-return-gone-badly away from getting savagely beaten-up TWICE (first, by the rental car company... then Brightline, if you miss your train because of it).
They need to replace Amtrak
Amtrak still has an important job serving thhe many small towns and cities along the very unprofitable routes, which the government pays for, but yeah, Brightline should take over service between the big cities, especially on the NEC.
@@ncard00As someone that lives in one of the small towns that Amtrak services, let me make it clear that no one can use it. The train stops once a day at 2:30 in the morning. It's weird to hear people getting excited about a train that is taken for granted in the rest of the modern world. It's even been fazed out in some countries because it's so old. The UK had these trains in 1975 and stopped using them in 2017, almost 50 years ago. All of the people in this video if they are still alive are at least 46 years older. ruclips.net/video/Ddb9YgKz5FA/видео.html
The trainset is actually brand new, the slow speeds are due to mostly old ground level freight tack that it runs on. Even so while many other places have had a father trains for decades, this is the first time we have this in Florida
@@Distress. Of course the train set is new, if you watch the link I gave you will see that it's an old design and an old concept. It's brand new for Florida but very old in the rest of the modern world, about 46 years old to be precise.
