I love you for posting this simple recipe! My favourite as a child! A suggestion: I use a oversized large Tupperware bowl for melting marshmallows in strong plastic ware as it does not stick to edges, as tends to so with glass. Another thought is to use a stiff heavy duty plastic/vinyl/stiff silicone lifter like one uses for flipping eggs. Again, it does not stick as bad and should sustain the strength to stir. In Italian nougat, I think a final step of very light dusting of icing sugar is a barrier for preventing some sticking before wrapping. When I have time, I will try this! Thank you! 😊
I wish stores still had Brach’s Pick a Mix displays. But, then I wish there was still Penny Candy, for a penny. And Candy Bars for a nickel, and Dairy Queen cones for 10 cents. Those were the days!
Me too. Remember grandpa taking us with him to pick up animal feed and he would give us each a dime to go to the little home store and we would get our favorite candies.. Oh my those were the days. I wish my grandchildren could enjoy just a simpler and more caring world. Great memories.
I’m 51 Noreen and this reminds me so much of my childhood!!! Our next door neighbor, when I was little...(we lived out in the country in Oregon) he was a little old man and he always had these candy squares wrapped in plastic in his shirt pocket..... he and his wife would buy the candy just to give to me, because it was my VERY favorite. ......and he would always give me one..... just like magic...I fell for it every time! I really did think it was magic, that my favorite nougat candy would end up in his shirt pocket somehow!!! It’s one of my very first memories..... him picking me up, walking me around the garden, looking at all the pretty flowers, while I enjoyed my magic candy!! Our neighbors were an elderly couple, they didn’t have any children and they absolutely adored me. They treated me just like their own ..... what lovely people they were 💕❤️🙏 I had a very painful childhood and I’m so grateful for Mr and Mrs Cooper loving on me the way they did!! They made a huge difference in my life and it all started with that nougat candy!! (That you can’t find in the store any more.... I bet I haven’t seen it in 20 years or more) Can’t wait to make this 💕❤️ thank you!
What a lovely memory of two people who should have been grandparents..... well they were grandma and grandpa to you. Thank you for sharing. It's nice to hear you all had each other for a time.
Thank you for sharing your story. Brachs still makes the candy nougat at Easter time. I find them at Dollar General stores. This year I found 14 bags.... bought them all.
What a lovely memory for you. It sounds like you made a big difference in the older couples lives too. I live in a very small town in Mid Michigan and we have a small fruit market that still carries all the Brach's candies. The nougats are my favorite and I treat myself to a few every time I go there
I was just THINKING about these candies last night, wondering whatever happened to them, and rather wanting to eat them again now. Then today, this video shows up in my recommendeds! Talk about perfect timing!
I made this candy this morning using the red & green Dots for Christmas tomorrow. Eating these bring back fond childhood memories. Thank you so much for sharing.
I was tempted to make nougat for the holidays a couple years ago, and they sell a rice paper that is totally edible (!) that acts like parchment, but you leave it on the nougat, because you can eat it. I think it would be a game changer here.
@@cstar44b91 Not perfectly exactly, but it was pretty close, and the nougat was very delicious. What kind of gummy candies you use will make a difference. If you like to experiment, you can also potentially add all kinds of goodies to the basic nougat also.
I just made this for Christmas and EVERYONE loved it. They ate it all! They were actually texting me asking if they could have more. This was such a hit I'm gonna make it every Christmas. Double or triple batch. Thank you for the super easy recipe.
I made it and it was yummy to your tummy.... here a suggestion tape the parchment paper to side of pan it won't lift up. Making more today for Christmas...
These are just so beautiful and festive.... who wouldn't want to receive these as a gift.. and they would look great in your gingerbread houses for stained glass windows sliced real thinly.. you have really outdone yourself.. beautiful
Wow! Love this...one of my favorite childhood memories is seeing the Branch’s display at the grocery store. I would always get the fruit nougat. Don’t think they make them anymore so this is a treasure. Oh, and the Italian candy you reference in your video is Torrone. I know because it’s also my favorite Italian nougat with sliced almonds that I grew up with.
Bet this would work with peppermint candy. It seems there was Brachs soft nougat in peppermint that was round and had a Christmas tree in the middle. My Grandmother had a candy jar filled with the assorted flavored chewy toffees in the shiny metallic wrappers. I'd pick out butter rum, coffee, vanilla. Then Neopolatian coconut squares.
I love this candy wow. Making it. I just did potato pinwheel candy. Mom had alot of kids so I'm happy to make them. Ten kids back in 1965 mom did everything.
Oh my goodness, I remember going to Winn Dixie and pivcking out the candies from that big display they had. My favs were definitely these jellies and the neopolitan coconuts 🤗 what sweet memories
I am 51 and I remember this candy was one of about 4 or 5 kinds my grandma would put in a baggy for me and my brothers as young children. I havent seen them in about 25 or 30 years. I cant wait to make them thank you so much for sharing
Wow talking about a throwback . And the memories of the candies sold like that at the grocery store. I wouldn't have ever thought about in my lifetime. 😮
Made it in a pot on the stove and it turned out perfect. Sprayed my hands with oil and smoothed it out. Can't wait to taste it. Thank you very much for this recipe ❤️🇨🇦
I made this recipe for my Christmas gift boxes last year. My parents, sisters, brother, and kids are always after me to make more. Thank you so much for this recipe.
Bracks candies of days that have gone by . Grabbed all kinds of different flavors. Through them in a brown paper bag . To be weighed by the pound . Jelly Nougats was always my Daddy's and I favorite candy . Thank you so much for sharing your recipe . Definitely keeping this recipe . Merry Christmas . To You And Family.
I remember these and the Brach's candy center but not from my childhood but from my kids childhood. I lived too far out in the country to have the Brach's candy center in the store.
Hi Noreen I have make this every year for xmas but only using green red and yellow. Your recipe is a much larger on than I have so I like that. I like that you used the microwave much easier. I spray everything too cause so sticky. I have used jube jube for this as it's hard to get the dots and it turned out really nice.
I just made four batches of this candy. I put the chips, butter and marshmallows all together in the glass bowl and run it for 20 seconds at a time in the microwave until it is melted sufficiently to put in the dots. I also cut the Dots in half, but that's probably not necessaary, though it allows them to go a bit farther (Dots are hard to find in this location this year). I just go right to a dish lined with parchment paper sprayed with cooking oil, then wrap tightly and refrigerate for a couple of hours before cutting. This candy is great and is well received by everyone who gets a chance to sample it. It brings back memories of never getting enough of it when I was a kid.
Thank you so much for this recipe. I made these a year ago and it was the best thing I've ever made. I haven't made it since because I want to eat it all. I'm going to make it again. It is so unbelievably good.
Yessss! Thank you! This brings back such beautiful memories of reaching into the huge glass Lance jar my Grandma had on the counter and bringing out these nougats! My favorite!!! Thanks for sharing! I’ll be making these soon!
I have always wondered about these candies & what exactly were in them. I’m definitely going to give it a try. Thanks Noreen!! I had no idea that was marshmallows & white chocolate. I always thought it was a taffy kind of stuff. 47 years old & I learned something new....lol
Just days ago, I was thinking of this candy.. I love nougat with jelly’s in it. Thank you and I know this is an older video, none the less I saw it and I will be marked and make it my self.
This look incredible! I love jelly nougats. You can still buy Brach’s jelly nougats during Easter, but these were still available all year, even in the 90’s. They also used to make these cream truffles that were just perfect for kids. I have a bad sweet tooth, and those truffles were so big and so rich that I’d only have one piece of candy. Oh, I miss them! I can’t wait to make these. They’re an all time favorite.
Oh my goodness, I was just saying that I missed those pic a mix centers cause you could get exactly what you wanted. The jelly nougats were one of my favorites and I never see them more. Look forward to trying this recipe.

You can find a printable version of this recipe here: bit.ly/3rfqHRP
Could we use wax paper instead of parchment? I'm so making this.
It has been my experience that wax paper will not release hot things like parchment paper.
Bought back memories! I will be making it!
Thank you! ❤️
