I live in Oregon close to Portland and Excalibur comics was my dad's childhood comic shop. He used to take me there when I was a kid. Good times. Love that place.
The friendships you have built from one end of the country to the other tells you how much we all enjoy not only your content but your contribution to this community we all love. The community doesn’t look so small anymore. Coming home on the plane with some of the gifts you received must have been fun! Congrats Mike!
Thanks for the shoutout Mike! I had a great time digging with ya, and let's do it again sometime! Big shoutout to Bigby for being the bringer of people together-er(?). And to Debbie for such a killer store, Excalibur!
I recently picked up my first copy of a minty Swamp Thing 9 and man, that cover in person is GORGEOUS! It’s currently my all time favorite cover. Those colors and line work are beautiful
Oh man! What a trip! What deal did you make the Comic Gods to have such a time?? To be able to hold the first issues of Batman? And gifts of grandeur! What a host Stephen is! I've seen him with the Comic Collector Geek many times. Interesting guy! When Kamandi came out in the early 70's- it rocked my world!! Loved it! I wish Kirby had stayed longer than around 12 issues on the series he did at DC work at that time, (but what a lasting effect those issues have had! Kamandi was named after the bunker he crawled out of when his Grandpa died- "Command D". Thanks for sharing this awesome time Mike!!
Mike thanks for sharing your trip to Oregon with us!! Your friend was very cool to give your that Schomburg commission. A Lovely piece of art. Now you just have to figure out where to hang it!!
Incredible. Not only for the original art, but that comics shop with all the back issues. Man, that looked like heaven and it was so clean and organized. Thank you for a fantastic video.
Oh man! Excalibur is SO GOOD! I really like chatting with Debbie. I was in there maybe the day before you guys were, wish I could have met you both. I love Tasteecat as well. Ken is also great and fun to chat with. Its amazing to see Portland start to get some shine again.
For those who like history. Alex Schomburg was from Puerto Rico. He was an orphan who emigrated to NY when he was 11 years old. Also he is related to Arturo "Arthur" Schomburg also from Puerto Rico. He's a famous historian known as the Father of Black History. Founder of the Schmburg institute of NY, where people like Spike Lee, Lawrence Fishburn and more have studied.
Great pick ups and I loved the spotlight on Debbie and Excalibur, such a great shop with an incredible selection. Also was awesome to see you and Dave run into each other, you both are some of the most genuine guys and creators out there. Although I'm sure the next time we meet will be in your neck of the woods I hope you come back and visit again!!!
This was amazing. The friendships you've developed and the stories that you will have for life. Oh, and the comics, don't forget the comics. Such gracious friends for a gracious youtuber. ❤
I am dying at the idea of Mike shaking kids down for their lunch money. All jokes aside, seems like there are some phenomenal folks in the comics scene all around the Pacific Northwest, so cool to see how uniting this hobby is for folks all over.
Mike!!!!!! Wow!!!!! What an amazing opportunity you had in Portland! I am so happy for you and your haul. Amazing Schomberg gifts you received. Thank you for sharing.
Excalibur looked like an incredible store. I love the fact that its second generation. Most of the stores in suburban Boston are on the smaller side without the giant pile of back issues. I love the idea of "New to the Store" boxes. Thats great for regulars.
Very, very cool! I love Steppo and his absolutely impressive wealth of knowledge! And if you like chicken fried steak, you've got to come down here to Ft. Worth. I could recommend some places that will blow your socks off. Great video, man!
Excalibur is a great shop 😊Debbie is very cool 😎 50 years?! Didn't realize it was around that long. Tastee cat is a good shop as well. I suggest Cosmic monkey and I like comics across the river in Vancouver washington. Glad you liked Portland. 😊
Great update, love the pace and variety of your adventures in comics, that collecto6 is legend and is on comicbookgeek channel...those guys have multimillion collections but still grab common and modern classics, art covers etc...love the superman and josh middleton new mutants pick ups as i picked those up this past year and also last month an "Alec Holland" #9! Best cover i agree...thanks for keeping the show so much fun and balanced!
Last time you were riding shotgun a spit take took place. 😂 I was waiting but glad bigby didnt for your sake! I also love that swamp thing cover. Issue 5 is my close second. The oranges red and yellow is so nice. I just finished up a little swamp thing run. I have 1-14 of the original series so far. Thanks for taking us on your portland tour!
Frame it now! I’m stoked you had a great experience in our town. You got a great slice of experiences. In my 20’s while working at Dark Horse I lived a mere few blocks from the Hotcake House… oh so many drunken nights with friends spent there!
You hit some great spots! I love the pancakes at Hot Cake House. Excalibur is probably my favorite Comic shop in town, Debbie is awesome. Dave is the man, glad you got to run into him. Also, stoked you got to check out Steppo's collection, incredible. Thanks for coming down to our stomping grounds!
I have to give you props for your reading choices the last few months: Sandman, Usagi Yojimbo (one of my personal favorites, I wish I had picked up his first appearance when it was affordable, and All-Star Superman, best Superman run ever). I stopped in 1 comic shop in Portland on FCBD a couple years ago while on a trip to Seattle. Unfortunately it was less than impressive. Small amount of comics, they had a sale going on but no indication of which items were for sale. Anyway, here is a little tip on your Dave Stevens artwork hunt: Hellboy's Weird Tales #7 which has a pin-up of Hellboy by Mr. Stevens himself. Keep up the enjoyable content.
Love the video, sounds like an awesome trip. Loved seeing that Spirit #22. That is one of my all time comic covers, I don't own a copy, but I just love that Eisner piece.
Can't miss a vid even on my birthday cool pickups mike that doctor Strange is awesome.. I got Superman #18 The Death Of Clark Kent this morning nothing huge but it's one I was looking for.

One again binge watching your videos . Amazing. As a new comic book collectors it’s impressive how you know about the different stories . Do you tend to read them first and then pick them up when you see them ? Or do you read them once you pick them up ?
Go comic hunting in these places next: U.K., Italy, Norway, France, Belgium, Germany, Turkey, India, Thailand, Singapore, Philippines, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Brazil, Peru, Mexico....There are so many creators that live in these countries too and they go to cons there. Mark Millar's in the UK, Simone Bianchi in Italy, Fabian Nicieza in South America, I heard Bob Layton now lives in Korea and Mike Zeck now lives in the Philippines. You can meet Stan Sakai and Peach Momoko in Japan and Artgerm in Singapore. Look hard enough and you'll find Alan Moore in Australia and have your Swamp Thing comics signed.
All-Star Superman is a great story… a lot better than the All-Star Batman. Definitely one of the best Superman stories to have come out in the last 20 years, and the animated film serves the comic justice.
Kamandi is a great book,First run I collected. Don't quote me but I think the story Is DC couldn't get the rights to planet of the apes so created Kamandi
Regarding James Gunn and All-Star Superman: as with every announcement and rumour about comics-based movies and series, until it's on the screen it's all just hot air. Nevertheless, All-Star Superman itself is wonderful and should be in every fan's collection.
Those two dudes need to stop eating at Waffle House and guzzling that gravy on "chicken fried steak" for brekkie. Or they won't be around to collect comics much longer.
The best thing about our community is how people support each other through taking them around on tour of their city to giving out such amazing gifts
