- What a comic show! In this video I go to my local show, the Western Mass Comic Show and have one of the best and CRAZIEST comic collecting days ever! I find great comics, buy original art, have dinner with legendary comic book creators, make a big mistake… and play live music? A strange day but an awesome one you absolutely have to see!

13:50 Just coasting past a Weird Science Fantasy #29 with Frazetta's greatest cover like it was nothing! ;) Seeing that book raw in a box and not slabbed on a wall is incredibly rare these days.
Rick Parker's also did letters for Marvel's original Star Wars series in 1977.

As someone who just got back into turtles I’m so jealous of the western Mass comic scene. Out here in Utah the comic scene is limited already but there is no turtles stuff
I bought Freedom Edge from Ben Toz, his book is amazing! The storytelling, the art, the characters; I’m not done reading it, are incredible!
Finding Fantastic Four #353 for a buck is a steal. Price floor on eBay is $12 (not including shipping). Love minor keys. Great finds.
I love the civil War story I collected all the books. One thing neat about the newspaper is there was also a comic called Frontline which was in a journalistic style following and talking about events that happened in civil War... very cool. A very good show and I know what it's like to rush between things that you're interested in all in the same day. I played many a church gig in my younger days. One thing about playing music is I found no matter how tired or run down you are feeling when you get to the performance you get energized maybe it's the adrenaline maybe it's the love of playing music. I've been collecting covers of Fable that have trumpets on them that's kind of cool collecting interest of mine. Mike I said it before and I'll say it again you're a comic book rockstar.

a t-shirt design with the FF 348 cover art specifically for NYCC!!! Now I'm gonna have to rewatch this video because I was so busy writing this comment!!! 🤣

Great video as always. That issue of Sandman is a classic and I was even more impressed when the Netflix series did a good, faithful adaption of it!

It's New England/Northeast , there's almost too many shows here, too many dealers, too much competition for collections
@@User8vfjhejfI'm sure it has its downsides, but where I am, I feel lucky to have an LCS for new books and one vintage shop for older stuff. When I see you Northeast guys going to multiple shops and having shows every other weekend, I am amazed. It's really cool.
@@HaulYeahComics-ft4xl here in the UK there are no decent comic shops it's appalling.I have to rely on comic marts and eBay.

I think I feel same as you, shows with friends are fun, but hunting in the wild is most exciting
I have All 7 Civil war issues signed by Dexter Vines and issue 1b (directors cut) signed by Mark Millar. We used to have a large weekend comic con in London and had a lot of well known artists , writers and inkers present. Got comics signed by Tom Palmer, Neal Adams, Herb Trimpe , Roy Thomas , just to name a few. Really miss the cons now, we don’t get so many big names anymore
Hey made it into a LMC vid lol. Was a great day between His & Her and the Show I added a ton to my Punisher collection. Got my giant TMNT poster of issue #4 signed by Dooney.
I have 10 issues of the Daily Bugle Civil War issues 4-12 & 16 (which has first red hulk on cover) got them all when they came out. Wish I had 1-3 !!
So many times I watch you crawl through a con, and I'm like, hey, can you grab that [insert good deal here] for me? It must be very satisfying to be located near such a nexus of comic-culture events. I git really nice Sandman #8 slab to go up on my wall a week or two ago, incidentally.

That artist you mentioned Gary Smith, his art reminds me of the artwork in star wars: dark empire, back in the 90s. I loved that artwork and Gary's look great!
This was a really fun show! I was able to grab 30 comics from the dollar bins during that opening scrum at His & Hers (and stopped back in after the show to get a couple of the minor wall books from Nachon.) At the show I bought a copy of Ben Toz's book and a whole bunch of issues for my Defenders and Doctor Strange runs. Went through the entire amount I had budgeted for the day. And it was good to finally be able to say hi to you, Mike. I will definitely be making it to next year's show! - Mark C.

I can sympathize. I play bass and sing in a small group at church, too. Occasionally, we play at other churches. No wonder I think of you as a kindred spirit!
I used to play bass most of the time, but then we kept losing piano players so I got relegated to main accompanyment

Enjoyed the show and running into not only you Mike but so many people we know. I also wanted to be there to support our good buddy Ben Toz. He had a table and was promoting his book “Freedom Edge”. Fantastic artist and writer if I might add. As for comics I only picked up a couple of books drawn by Adam Hughes. Turned out to be a great day!
Always enjoy your videos and sharing of comic book knowledge. I've looked over so many books because I didn't know. Im looking forward to Heroescon this weekend in Charlotte, NC. Full of artist, writers and cheaters. But...I think Sam Alexander's first appearance is Marvel Point One #1 from 2011...historically. Nova #1 his his first ....chronologically. Heck if I know what the difference is.

Bought a lot from many of the same people you featured here! So many talents! That Spider Man comic looks killer! Will have to be on the lookout for that !! So cool that you do the music gigs! Loved seeing that!( even at 2x speed! LOL) The show was definitely worth the 2.5 hour drive!! Hope I am able to make another one this summer in you area! Having one up here end of the month! Ah great vid, rockin the Ovation i see.... nice I got a Glen Campbell signature series, never gona sell it. Sold a Ovation many years ago, sellers regret!, then would occasionally run into that distinct sound (helicopter, propeller blade teck/plastic), ha ha 🤣randomly over the years /nothing like it, had to get another a few years back; now a permanent part of the collection. 👍 -Cheers
Haha good eyes! Yeah the ovation is perfect for church and studio stuff but it’s over 20 years old at this point so I’m thinking of a replacement
@@lunchmoneycomics AH hear that, one thing they say though about tone wood in instruments (have watched a few documentary's on the subject) is that the instrument only gets better over time. A example would be I have seen a few guitar players who play the blues and there sporting a Gibson from the 1930's they just cant get enough of that instrument (picture a old rickity/beat up, with dings, scratches) and the musician is just top notch, but he just love's that aged instrument 🤷♂. Not trying to tell you what do , but if its still structurally holding together, just think of all that love and joy put into it,(if you believe in that kinda thing) just sayin... Anyway great channel, really entertaining. -Cheers

It sounds like you should have stayed at that comic shop longer than 10 minutes if they got such a large collection in and everything was only a dollar. I cannot imagine that it was cleaned of all the keys. There must’ve been much more to find.

@@lunchmoneycomics ..those Mirage era turtles artists have such distinctive art styles .. ..Jim and Kathy are fantastic people, Infact I have to say all the Mirage folks are always very gracious..In all my ...35ish years of collecting spacificly turtles, ive never had a bad interaction with any of them...I love shows like that. NE is definitely an independent comic books fan wonderland.
Hey Mike! Been enjoying your videos for some time now! Great work great content! During the summer I live in Northwestern CT (near Great Barrington). I had an Avengers 1 pop into my lap just today! What!? Yup! Cost? Nothing. It was mine from when I was a kid and it was returned to me after 50+ years. It needs a pressing, etc. and I was hoping you could advise as to where in our area a good reliable place would be. I have my guy down in SC, but I won't see hi until September :( Any advice would be greatly appreciated! (sorry for the diatribe)
