Love that you incourge your children 😊 just remember that when your older like myself at 66 there was a point where my "hobby" paid for a community College degree for my oldest....miss those books 😢
Nishon was pretty busy on free comic book day. I was glad to see so many young kids which this hobby surely needs to survive. Nothing sparks the imagination like reading. I also want to mention that I had a great day that day with you, Jack, and Ben. That day flew by but I totally enjoyed. Thx for asking me along Mike!
There isn't a recent sale of a ASM #300 8.0 restored Newsstand (the last one sold for $385 in Oct. 2022). There was a recent sale of an 8.5 restored Newsstand and it went for $330 in May of this year. So your price of $225 is pretty fair, maybe slightly low but within the margin that most people would bargain for. It's a nice pickup :)
Thank you for the kind comments, Mike. It was awesome having you pop in the show, as everyone had a great time. Keep up the great videos and see you on magicgeeks' show or mine, lol. 🍻🍻
Mike can you please make a video on how you display your books. I’m new into the hobby and don’t want to damage my books by displaying them wrong. I also just wanted to say thank you, you are one of the reasons why I started collecting in the first place and why I check my local flea market for comics. You are also the reason I got into x men. I love how you give some details about the books you buy and how you don’t brag about getting all the big books like X Men 1. I hope you continue this channel for years to come, Thank You.
Mike, gotta love those HUGE Marvel Treasuries!! Keep an eye out from the HOward the Duck issue 12!! Great story that's tricky to find!! Have fun with ALL THAT BRUNNER!!
Restoration of color touch is tricky. If you don’t want to use solvents, then the only real option is to have the color touch affected paper removed. This will leave big color breaks on the front cover, but technically the color touch will be gone and the book can grade with a blue label. You can probably expect at least a minus 2 grade level drop, but with a newsstand copy in today’s market, that’s still about a $200-300 book. If you’re interested in pricing and flipping it, that would be an option. Best of luck!
Awesome comic book roundup! Very cool variety of comics and other related stuff! I would like a decent amount of the books you grabbed in my collection!
Yesssss! Great to see you picking up another Treasury. That Doctor Strange treasury is easily one of the best. Frank Brunner is amazing as well. I recommend collecting his comics. He didn’t do many, but the Marvel books he drew in the 70s are all incredible.
I’m glad you like the marvel tin set , I had the same dilemma about putting them in a binder. Couldn’t do it. But you would definitely look at them more if you did. The trade was great love the Spectra. Good hunting.
The problem with that color touch is like what Jeff said, the solvent wash also fades the colors on the book. If you don’t go that route than you use a scraper tool and that compromises the spine
I have a very old school view on cost. Newsstands aren't as rare as they say they are. ASM 300 was not a low print run comic by any means, and the cover is marked on. Plus, as with Marvel, which you can see from their card sets 300 is Venoms 2nd appearance. On the other hand, it is a milestone book with it being number 300. It technically does showcase Todd's first creation more than 299. It was good enough to get an 8.0, which means it's probably in great shape. To me, 8.0 or higher is an absolute grab. (Not the insane 9.8s prices for sure) Great condition for a second-hand item. Which from the 80s can be somewhat hard to find. Especially with a highly hunted book. With all that, I wouldn't have paid more than 150. Although I also am more grounded when it comics to comic prices. Even though I'm a collector. One that would love to find that rare gem! The one that finally gets me out of the poor house. I know that realistically, most comics are not that. 80s and up highest I would ever go would be 150. 70s, maybe 200, it has to be a big key key, though. 60s and back now, those deserve higher costs. Mainly for the burning/destruction of comics that happened back then. Still within reason, of course, though. I know my thought process is rare today, though, mainly because of the huge fever that hit with the comic boom. Everyone wants to try and wheel and deal. Thinking they'll get rich, no matter who they ripe off or hurt in the process. I'm glad it finally died down. Hoping it stays that way. Even though so many are fighting to make it the way it was during the boom. Sorry rant over. Doubt anyone will read this. Also want to say that tin and the collection of the Fatal Attraction cards are awesome finds. I didn't know they had the holograms collected like that. Most important thing is you had a blast collecting. Plus, you got to do it with your son. Stay true Mike you are one of the good ones for sure, sir!😊
I have my original tin from back then that my grandmother bought me as a kid. I keep the tin on display in my den but the set I keep in binder pages...that way I can look through it without worrying about causing any damage like you could from pulling out, looking at the cards, and putting back in.
I have that exact Marvel Masterpieces card set in the tin and I put the set in a binder along with my other marvel card sets to look at and enjoy them. Great video and that X-men Hologram card display set signed is Awesome.
I think I have all 6 of those comics with the holograms! Those ASM s are killer! Been working on my collection of that title also!! Free Comic Book Day was awesome! My first one, amazingly! Other than about 10 from this year, inside, they also had some left over from last one and the Halloween one! That Dr. Strange cover is awesome! Poor Larry! LOL! Love Gumby!! Use to watch him all the time!! I think that seems like a fair price for the ASM 300! Would love to get mine graded( excellent condition) but it costs more than I can afford right now! Loved this video!!! Hope to make it back to your area some time this summer.
Mike my 2 cents on the tin. Keep them I. The tin as long as u can stand it. It’s possible you may come across the inserts a little bit at a time or all at once. How many MIB sets are out there? Maybe not many out in the wild
That Hologram display is RAD 90s nostagia distillate. Easy one of the coolest things ive ever seen and Inhad no idea it existed. I say, you either get the Marvel Masterpiece cards in a binder or track doen another set to display. Theyre meant to be seen! Great video as always, Mike. Thr things we collect pile up quickly, dont they?😅
Keep those cards in the tin! I would treat those cards like your x-men figures, mint in box. As for restored purple labels, those are fine for personal collections because they are often the only way to afford books that have been slabbed and priced out of normal budgets. If you're looking to sell, the purple label is usually undesirable and will sit on shelves for far too long...and yes, goes for about half of grade value. My current collecting project is collecting slabs in every type (blue, green, yellow, purple) and grade (0.5-10) to have one of each including CVR, NG and PG slabs.
I totally picked up the last ronin from Walmart 6 months ago! It's such a sweet story. Makes me want a copy of issue 1! Love your scores from the summer so far
Keep them in the tin. I traded one like that to my local comic shop for some silver age comics. I'm not into cards so much but it made a great trade item for me.
Nice video. I ended up having a great time up in Massachusetts. We actually ended up staying a block away from Holy Moly comics and walked there the second day. I'm currently working on a video of my best garage sales finds over the summer. I plan on working on a video for the great comic shops I visited in Tx and Mass.
Purple label of death. Really it comes down to having a sought after book for what you are willing to spend on it. I have a 5.5 AF 15 but it is purple extensive resto. I bought it nearly 20 years ago from Ebay purchase (those were the days) for a great deal raw and I ended up getting it signed and sig series resto label. I wouldn't be able to afford an AF 15 anyways.
I’d want that ASM 300! I think half the value of its blue label counterpart is the best rule of thumb to use when pricing those. I think it’s iconic enough to still have some value.
I’m jealous of you LMC, you and your son comic hunt a lot together. My 13 yr old son has absolutely no interest in comics. Sad thing is is I have 26,000 books that will one day be his and yet my boy gives our hobby no love
Hey Mike, yet another entertaining and informative video. Silver age Spider-man all day long, my era, nice books. The restored purple label 300 slabbed, not for me on so many levels! I’ll give you £1 U.K. and that’s just so l can free it from its plastic prison 😅
Hey Mike love watching your channel im so jealous of you guys in the States as you have so many ways of finding comic books over here in Australia we ate very limited so how many comic books in your collection? Cheers Gaz
The new x men comic book is very similar to a cover in the nam title. I like your round up shows.Cause it's like Forest Gump. You never know where you're gonna get in a box of chocolates.
Ok so is the resemblance to juggernaut coincidence? Cain MARKO the juggernaut. I can’t be only one seeing the similarities. Bunch of cool stuff. I had to check my speed you talk so fast. Great video as always.
As for the 300 restored I think 225-250 range is fair. Personally I think too much negativity is put on the purple label. I have a 6.0 in blue label. Is it really that more attractive than an 8.0 with purple?? I’d keep it slabbed. Also binder the cards and display with the tin. U can always put them back in the tin later.
Taking those cards out you might loose their mint conditioness(not sure if thats a word). So If you find another full set, put that one in a binder, and keep the tim one inside that box.
I think that Art Adams Gumby won an Award for best drawn single issue that year...nice grab. I grab Adams when I can, juts got his Defenders #2 at the Secret Stash for 3.00.
"I'm not a huge CGC/Slab guy," Mike proclaimed as he sat in front of a wall half covered with CGC slabs. LOL Love the content Mike, thanks for what you do!

I'm familiar with the idea of halving the grade to figure out FMV. I prefer the idea of finding FMV based on what the grade would be if you had the resto removed. Either way, I personally don't mind restoration. I think the hatred is market manipulation. It attempts to reduce the supply. Yes there are 5,000 copies of this book on the census, but only 4,500 of them are universal. It's a supply/demand game. Trimming will always suck because you've lost something you can't get back. But the idea that you completely destroy value because someone colored in a tick with marker? Stop it.
Open the Cards the Marvel ones and show them in a notebook! ASM 300 from 1988 purple label CGC I would free it from the slab and maybe make a trade out of it!
That $0.25 Longshot is awesome! I love getting weird, probably rare stuff for cheap, even if it’s not valuable in the slightest.
Love the silver age Spidey's Mike! I got a print of that ASM 53 on my wall, I absolutely adore that cover.
