    Few weeks back I flashed this same version of Bios on my MSI B450 Tomahawk MAX using USB BIOS Flash Back feature. You can flash the Bios by keeping the peripherals attached to board. It will work fine. I flashed keeping my CPU, GPU, RAM, SSD, HDD and Coolers on board as well as keeping my wireless dongles for keyboard and mouse attached to the back USB ports and also the Ethernet jack.

  • @trev1481

    Hi Mike- As you suggested, I did flash the current March 2023 Beta Bios to my Tomahawk B450, It was a piece of cake for this 65 yr old. As I stated, my setup was already built, so I did the flash in the Bios itself, not the M-Flash on back of tower. I bought the thumb drive at Walmart for $5, a 32gb, 2.0, SanDisk Cruiser, and I reformatted to get rid of their security files to Fat32, than downloaded the Bios update (I was 7 versions behind) and copy and pasted to thumb drive, then restarted with USB still inserted and hit Delete to get back to Bios board, than clicked MFlash and followed directions that are located on MSI site for this procedure...it was a walk in the park. After the flash is done (You will know from the progress bar at 100% and screen goes black) I pulled the USB out and pressed "Delete" immediatly...it took around a minute or so, just stay on delete, and the Bios came back up showing the update, than I restarted and got back into windows. You do not have to change the boot order or any of that...Also, when I downloaded the Bios update from MSI it also comes with a text file telling what it is, I did not put this on thumb drive, only bios update. A lot of people are complaing about these Sandisk Thum Drives of putting stuff on them and than getting locked out...if you reformat them ait gets rid of their security software. In Widows 10 (Mines Pro) just put the USB Drive in and when widows eplorer opens right click on the drive and format to Fat32 like Mike showed ya! I also have a Anthlon processor my son gave me, and now he's upgraded and gave me a Ryzen 5 1600, so I am doing this swap tonight and just followed watched Mike's vid on this...but first I have to clean it all up! Should I use a razor blade to get the thick stuff off??? I don't think the alchahol and qtip will get all that????

    • @mikesunboxing

    Hi Mike. Good video. I flashed my BIOS Tuesday because it offered improved boot time and memory compatibility. My X570 Unify has the flash BIOS button on the I/O. However, I still prefer to flash it from the UEFI. I like to have a graphic indicator to watch. As you said, most people should not flash their BIOS if their system is running properly. But, I flash mine every time there is a new one, providing that it offers a performance update.
    [NOTE] I would advise everyone planning to flash their BIOS to have their PC connected to a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) as you never know when the power could cut out or spike, and brick your mobo. My PSU keeps my PC and Monitor running for 15+ minutes after a power outage. Thus, flashing my BIOS isn’t such a butt clinching experience for me.

    • @OlettaLiano
      @OlettaLiano 4 года назад +1

      @Ladioz The UEFI, short for "Unified Extensible Firmware Interface" aka the real name of the modern BIOS. I updated the firmware with a USB the same as Mike demonstrated in this video. I simply chose to update it in the BIOS instead of using the button on the I/O. That way I can see the progress bar as the upgrade is taking place. Feel free to ask if you have more questions. I'll answer them the best I can.

    thank you for that vid. First i did it and there wasnt any red light. on second try i changed the USB Device and it started blinking and the fans started. After a couple seconds the RAM lighted up. After 5 minutes it stopped and the pc turned of and immediately turns on. now 15 minutes later. The red light is consistently on and nothing happens( The Fans still going and the RGB is on.

    Hello, thank you for the informative video.
    I have a ryzen 3 2200g with the tomohawk max, and am gonna upgrade to ryzen 7 3800x with GTX 1660ti in December. Is it better to flash the bios or just buy a motherboard which is compatible with the 3rd gen?

    Great guide! I have bought a ryzen 5600 for replacement to my 1600af but now that I am a bit scared to do the flashback. Still considering it and collecting knowledge of what can possibly happen so that I don't ruin my current pc within the process. What if that the power goes off once I begin to flash it or there is a problem with the flash device? If my motherboard gets hurt through the process, will that hurt also some of the other components once I install them again on the motherboard?

    @Mike, funny you where just testing to see if the viewers where paying attention to no graphics card being detected. I have done that myselfs only in my case it was not turning on the power switch. So even Tech pros make errors, though it did not take long to realise the reason for no power. Those MSI boards are a real pain even the graphics seem troublesome. I had the latest BIOS, so it did not like the Corsair 3600MHz RAM, USB 2.0 ports stopped working along with Radeon RX5700XT at times not being recognised.
