I agree with the other commenter, I started buying the smaller tubes instead of the big ones, this way if it does happen you don't lose as much product.
I had a plastic tube of adhesive OPEN on the seam. I SIMPLY DUCT TAPED the seam, THEN PVC electrical taped that DUCT TAPE. And I will NOT buy that big tube size AGAIN! ALSO, to help roll up tubes, I have made a 12×12 mm wood with a sawn slit in it, SLIDE that on the tubes end, as soon as you have squeezed out some product. On ONE END of that wood, I glued a handle, and I "crank" the product out of the tube, NEVER leaving the tube partially filled, FROM the very beginning. Hope that helps, philip from the Great Pacific NorthWET Oregon Division USA
That dry erase marker hack = 🤯 I normally use hand sanitizer because it tends to dissolve the alcohol-based ink of a sharpie, but that can damage the dry erase board over time. Totally just tested it successfully. I am amazed!
Paint palettes - plastic bottles such as soda are perfect for throw away palettes because they have 4 or 5 ready-made compartments at the bottom. Just cut the bottoms off and recycle the rest. Also those plastic lids - let the paint dry on the lid and it will peel off in a single piece. If the pieces are large enough or the paint is running together, you can cut into a shape and use it as "fake leather" adornments in your junk journal or other craft.
You can also use it to clean up paint spilled on carpet--that is, assuming you've spilled one of the 2 oz bottles of decorative paint. I know this because my dog got into my paints and took a burnt orange bottle downstairs to our pale grey carpet and bit down on it squirting a burnt orange puddle onto the carpet. I used paper towels to get up as much paint as I could and then hit it with lots of hand sanitizer, wiping it with more paper towels and repeating until I got it all out, then cold water to remove the sanitizer. Yes, you have to be careful because it might lighten the color of the carpet but my thought was it couldn't be worse than a puddle of burnt orange. It also works on clothing if you clean it up while still wet. (we decorative painters find paint in the oddest places--shirt fronts, laps, elbows, hair).
My favorite paint pallette for decades - a plain white corelle plate. Oil paint will clean off easily and acrylics can dry completely and a quick soak in warm water only will allow the paint to just peel off.
An old teacher’s hack for removing permanent marker is to keep a can of cheap hairspray on hand. Cleans up with a soft cloth. Works on white boards, desks, even SKIN!
Another option for the forgotten paintbrush, Murphy's Oil Soap. I've used it for years to clean brushes. I leave just a little in the brush after cleaning and it will condition the brush and keep it soft.
I have been using lids for decades for paint palettes! I also use matching plastic lids like from whipped topping as card holders for tots and grands. Thanks for sharing!
Oh my gosh!!! Thank you so much for the many hacks. I don’t know how many paint brushes I have thrown away. I am sitting here asking myself why I didn’t think of that. Thanks for the many ideas…

Never knew about how to remove the worn section of a craft knife!! Had to pause your video while I immediately took off the old portion of all my craft knives. Great hack as were all the other 35! Thanks!
I've been making a wizard of oz theme in my front garden, so the lint roller will come in handy as I'm about to start the Emerald City with Green bottles, this will hold it while I make the details 👍
I've been using cardboard tubes for extension cords for years. I write the cord length right on the tube. I also put them around rolls of gift wrap to keep them from unwinding without tape. I keep my stencils in plastic sheet protectors in a 3 ring binder--makes it easy to flip through and find what I'm looking for. I put painter's tape (blue masking tape) on the back of my ruler to keep it from sliding. I keep every lid from any jar going into the recycle bin to use as disposable (or reusable) palettes for mixing paint. Lint roller for picking up glitter is genius!
I learned a few things from this😊. Also, you can soak the peeled off tag with the packing tape in hot water, rub the paper off, and the words stay put. That can be used as a sticker and used, say in journal making ❤.
I'm only 4 minutes into your video and have already been blown away. Snapped off the dull tips of my exacto blades. Ready to do more. Loved the bread tabs on my tape idea!! How do you come up with all these ideas!!
Wonderful hacks. Many blew my mind. I really liked the one taking the bread thing for your packing tape or any tape. Thanks so much for these great hacks. ♥️😊👍👍
I had been watching you for years and one day you mentioned this would be great for your junk journaling, I googled what is JJ . That was three years ago and I obsessed with it, I craft every day and the ideas still keep coming. I want to say thanks Deirdre for changing my life.❤️
No to the "store and clean your brushes" in the parmesan container, never soak your brushes in water, the water will get inside the ferule and destroy the bonding agent that keeps your bristles in place, destroying your brushes.
I was wondering if someone was going to catch that. If you have several brushes that you are cleaning at the same time, that's a nice little bathtub for them, so to speak, but you are correct, never store them like that. The same goes for storing them brush up before they are dry. 😉
As soon as I saw that "tip" my eyes shot open as I yelled NOOOOOOOO! Never, Ever, Never leave your brushes in water--wash them, squeeze the water out of the bristles, and position them brush side DOWN while they dry. It's good to take a dry brush and wet it really well and towel-pat it prior to painting with it, just never leave a brush soaking in water.
so many great hacks... now I just have to remember all of them. for the stencil hack. I use a binder with clear sleeves and put them in each pocket with colored paper then you can flip thru to find the one you want. I wish I could of hit like --- 36 times!!1
Love this! I find lots of ways to use binders with sheet protectors! I take apart coloring books and store them this way so you can organize them anyway you want. For example I have one binder that's has very simple pictures so my granddaughter can pick one without getting frustrated! Plus if I really like a certain picture I could make a few photocopies and store them behind the original picture. Love the use of colored paper also!
Usually hacks are silly and I’d never go to the trouble.,…but all your’s were very helpful ideas!! I will incorporate a lot of them in projects. Loved the paper towel center for cord organization!!!
Great hacks! It's hard to pick just one, but the cardboard tube for cords was one I'll try soon. About paintbrushes: my dad taught me to clip the brush to the edge of the container with a clothespins so the brushes don't touch the bottom and bend out of shape. Thank you so much for sharing your ideas!
@@OurUpcycledLife Well, except the first one isn't really a "hack". The blade was snapped off using the tool the correct way the tool was intended to be used.
Thank you so much for sharing this! Oh my gosh, nr. 1 is my favorite. I never even notice that back part of a craft knife can come off and I'm always so afraid of that flying piece. The masking tape to cover the broken off part, is just as clever!
I'm not sure if I commented on this already but I keep coming back to watch this video😄 it's just so handy and fun, so many great tips. I love the ruler and rubber band hack so much! I don't know how many times my ruler has moved while cutting expensive paper! I will definitely try this. I've done the plastic lid palette hack before and it's a great way to get children painting without getting palettes for them. A hack I saw on a kids craft show many years ago was to take old greeting cards and turn them into small gift boxes. Use the back of the card as the bottom and the card front for the lid. Just measure and adjust accordingly, making the lid slightly larger than the bottom. It turns out so pretty and functional. Thanks for the tips and always sharing all the many ideas your genius mind generates!
1. Old rotary blades in a spare handle for paper cutting. Much faster than scissors for straight lines and open curves. 2. To get dried on white board marker off cheap white boards just use diluted alcohol. You can use straight alcohol if you want, but I dilute mine cause it saves alcohol and still works. 3. Those fabric scraps that are too tiny for even the smallest quilting project - save them. Shred them into string and use as stuffing for felt ornaments, pet beds, outdoor cushions, or DIY dress forms.
I usually just fold over the end of the tape about one eighth of an inch so I can find the end the next time, tear off the folded end, use what I need, then make a new fold. All in all, I waste very little tape and I can always, immediately find the end. 😊
Cleaning the brush was my favorite. I recently saw that I my brush with Modge Podge was left out overnight and hardened so badly. Not a single bend to it. I figured the hot heat from my hair dryer should melt the glue, it did, but took a while. The hardest area is the clumping near the area connected to the handle. I ran a razor through it vertically and horizontally to help loosen it. I lost some fibers but it did help. Soaking it in boiling water didn’t help at all. So now I’ll try the sanitizer after the heat and see how that works. Great tip.
If it doesn't, try some Murphy's oil soap. It works on acrylic. Also,if the comb is too wide try one of those small wire brushes. I also paint houses, and this works well on my large brushes. Good luck!
Follow up to this comment: I cleaned my brushes with Murphy Oil and it worked like magic, instantly. I soaked them overnight then washed with soap and water. Spray bottle from HD cost under 3.00!! I’m thrilled with the results!!.
Do same thing on your kitchen tongs. I take my SS tongs and wrap rubber bands around the tips. No more slipping when trying to grasp ovenware or baking sheets. I prefer that to silicone tipped ones!
I used wallpaper to cover my little cut up tubes for cords, to make them pretty. It also helped them last longer. I had one for years before it gave up the ghost. The little tubes work so well.
Sooo many great hacks! I especially love the idea for whitewashing beads and for containing cords. Nail polish for stiffening thread and hacks for sharpening scissors! Thanks for this awesome video!!!

😱😱😱THANK YOU FOR THESE!!! 🤩🤩😍😍 I knew a few of them but not most!!! Definitely knew about the dry erase marker taking off the sharpie because I’m a teacher and make that mistake aaaalll the time!!🤦🏻♀️🤣
These are FABULOUS tips! I do have to say, every painting teacher I've had insisted on storing paintbrushes on their end with the bristles up so they do not get bent out of shape. Thanks for the great and clever hacks! Most of these are so simple, but never crossed my mind!
Simply Beautiful 😍 I enjoyed your video as I am new to crafting. I am going to send it to my sister in Florida, she has been crafting for years. Her motto is who needs Tiffany's when you have Hobby Lobby!
Hi after seeing the hack with the Parmesan jar I went into my recycle bin and got out my empty jar .and now using it to soak my brushes. Thanks for sharing ❤😊
If you really care about your paint brushes, you will ruin them using that jar and letting them sit there. If it was just for a minute or two you might be alright, but longer than that and you’re taking a chance on putting a permanent bend in an otherwise good brush. It will destroy the bristles. That was the first thing I learned about brush care in art class.
Found out from an artist (painter)Just that Old English liquid wood polish Will take out the paint And condition your brushes. Just let brushes soak and walaa
@@begoodbebetterbeblessedix3766So will Murphy's oil soap. They both work wonders. Rubbing alcohol will get acrylic paint out like a charm. Hope that helps. 😊
The scissor hack is so helpful. I struggle with gummy dull scissors all the time. Combing the brush bristles is so genius too. 😊❤❤😊 Thank you for sharing these hacks.
Nice. But you should put what ever you cutting yo the edge of the paper or fabric, saving it and only making two cuts. Most I knew already. The glue line with the ruler is new. You can also glitter on a sheet of paper, then crese and put back into the container.

I wish the makers of e6000 would come up with a better packaging of their product.

Everyone really needs to know these! Love the Parmesan container one😉thanks and the socks
The best!
Did not know about the end of your razor knife having a slot to help you break off the end of the used blade. TFS!
Right!! Nice hack ❤️
I really loved the easier way to paint my beads. Thanks
So simple
And you get a 2-in-1 if you choose a jar which you would have liked to be painted in that color on the inside also :-)
Omg! I absolutely loved this video! I have been following your content since long. Love how you upcycle even a tiny strip of tape! All 36 hacks are my faves❤
So glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching.
The whitewash jar. Very clever idea
Wow. So many. Too many to chose. This was some of the greatest craft tips ever. Time well spent. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for the dental floss idea! I have a dental floss that is sooo thick it doesn't do its job. I'm sure I can use it now in my crafting!!
You are so welcome!
Thank you. These are useful, inexpensive, and clever.
Glad you like them!
😱😱😱THANK YOU FOR THESE!!! 🤩🤩😍😍 I knew a few of them but not most!!! Definitely knew about the dry erase marker taking off the sharpie because I’m a teacher and make that mistake aaaalll the time!!🤦🏻♀️🤣
You are so welcome!
These are FABULOUS tips! I do have to say, every painting teacher I've had insisted on storing paintbrushes on their end with the bristles up so they do not get bent out of shape. Thanks for the great and clever hacks! Most of these are so simple, but never crossed my mind!
You are so welcome!
Never leave your paint brushes standing in water. It ruins them.
Yes! I cringed when I saw that. It's fine if you don't care much about your brushes.
🤯🤯🤯
Upcycling is my latest craze for teaching children too
I wish I could give you a Thumbs Up for each hack. These were WONDERFUL!
Thank you so much for watching. Glad you enjoyed.
I love all of these but the glitter one is definitely up there. 😊❤
Thanks for watching
Glitter is the herpes of the craft world. You can never get rid of it.
Simply Beautiful 😍 I enjoyed your video as I am new to crafting. I am going to send it to my sister in Florida, she has been crafting for years. Her motto is who needs Tiffany's when you have Hobby Lobby!
Glad you enjoyed
Such great ideas! Be kind to each other. Stay safe. Love to all
Thank you! You too!
Wonderful!
Thank you for your very helpful ideas. I especially love how you used a hairdryer to peel off a label. I really needed that one! 😊
You are so welcome!
Acetone nail polish remover works great for removing paint from my paint brushes
Great tip!
My my my I have so many crafty friends with loads of ideas 🥰thanks for sharing your ideas.
Glad you enjoyed
If sanitizer will resolve the paint, what is it doing to our skin ?? WOW
I wouldn’t touch that poison let alone put it on my hands
Found out from an artist (painter)Just that Old English liquid wood polish Will take out the paint And condition your brushes. Just let brushes soak and walaa
The sanitizer webyse at work is predominantly alcohol...
Voíla 😺
@@begoodbebetterbeblessedix3766So will Murphy's oil soap. They both work wonders. Rubbing alcohol will get acrylic paint out like a charm. Hope that helps. 😊
Some of these I have already found very useful. I’m eager to try some of the other ones out. Thank you for sharing.
Glad you like them!
there ought to be a card that smoothes out bubbles and wrinkles
on facial skin hahas
Right! ❤️
The scissor hack is so helpful. I struggle with gummy dull scissors all the time. Combing the brush bristles is so genius too. 😊❤❤😊 Thank you for sharing these hacks.
You are so welcome!
Nice. But you should put what ever you cutting yo the edge of the paper or fabric, saving it and only making two cuts. Most I knew already. The glue line with the ruler is new. You can also glitter on a sheet of paper, then crese and put back into the container.
Glad you enjoyed
Super! Loved this. The tag was my fave.
Yay! Thank you!
