Why can't Presidents address the nation in this manner anymore. A heartfelt, staunch, straight-forward speech from a true American hero. I miss the Reagan days, and shake my head at the low depths politics have came to.

Reagan had the character and charisma that one is only born with. He believed what he said and he had strong convictions. He loved his nation and he was not afraid to stand up for it. He didn't apologize for what we are, but rather convinced the world of what we do and our values, that the rest of the world praised and respected. Soviet leader can see a fake and weak. He stood up to them and therefore freed many, hence kept everyone safe. God Bless him and our great nation!!

BTW, that old frail man flew through that speech without a single stumble. Hahahahah he was an actor- you can see how that fact helped us. No one is was going to take him in a debate. MAINLY because he understood risk/reward another point in his intelligence number. There was fire in his belly, oh to hear that in a candidate again.

Great speech from a great man who understood the dangers we face and the way we should deal with those threats, through a position of strength.

Those same Minuteman III missiles Reagan is lamenting here are still the only ICBM the US possesses today (although significantly upgraded).

Thanks for the upload...I added it to my The Reagan Files website, which has a great link of SDI documents from the Reagan Library.

And Canadian's often wonder how the Americans become so patriotic? Hard to not join up after a speech like that.

You mean "straight forward" as in these space lasers not really existing?

Obama's speeches are simply him giving shout outs, saying "Hello, (insert city name) like it's a pep rally, quoting someone else, stuttering to find a word people will react to by talking about how articulate he is, and that's if he's not reading someone else's speech. I think that's why he doesn't use the Oval Office, I don't think he's comfortable in there.
Somber isn't his thing, look at the Giffords speech. Oh and he took way too much credit for the bin Laden raid. I think he's afraid of the public seeing him as ingenuine if he were to continually use that setting, and is afraid someone will "call his bluff". And in that one instant, I think maybe he'd lose. So he just doesn't put himself in that position. He has a habit of evading situations anyway. Pretty funny he couldn't talk to Netanyahu last year about chemical weapons because if he said yes to him he'd have to talk to 10 other leaders, which is so obviously part of the job. Duh. Yet he was so willing to make a 'surprise' visit to White House tourists, who more than likely were there to see THE PEOPLE'S HOUSE, not them specifically. To me this too fits into that category of giving a shout out. He'd rather be Jay-Z than George Washington.

I'm thinking the exact same thing it's like comparing a professional baseball player who's an all star. to some nervous high school baseball player. well is the difference between a man and a mouse obviously Obama is a mouse in comparison to Ronald Reagan

I'm sorry, but I can't get over how lame his ploy for defence spending is, we have a bigger spending budget than all the other nations on the UN security council combined. Ike was right about the military industrial complex.
Also, the bit about America not starting wars is bull.
    I'm not a fan.
