This was back when leaders were more concerned with maintaining our freedom rather than "keeping us safe". What a shift in priorities.
Well... the world is a lot more free now. The soviet union has fallen. Fighting communism is no longer a fight for the imminent survival of the democratic world and our individual liberties. China is still a communist state, yes. But it is not the soviet union. It does not seek to be the new soviet union. The cold war is over.
Oskar Förberg We're far less free in America now as compared to then. Also, I wouldn't trust Putin. He's up to some very sneaky stuff. Did you know he has control over North American uranium? He's made life miserable for his fellow Russians. Since his "adventures" started in Ukraine, there has been a huge loss of foreign investment in Russia.
***** The Russians and Chinese love Putin because he stands up to the western world.
Great point. Our current leader seems more like a traitor to Western Nations.
Reagan was the BEST!
Reagan was the greatest American President since Eisenhower, and one of the greatest of all time. Proud.
I got chills listening to this amazing speech.
How would Ronald Reagan have re-acted to 9/11
He would have opened up a can of woop-ass
This video reminds all of us why he was the most remarkable leader of the last 50 years.
No wonder Poland has dozens of statues, parks, squares, metro station named after Reagan and Woodrow Wilson America was always a friend. Polish heroes fought for America also from Pulaski and Kosciuszko in the Revolutionary War to Polish military contingents in Iraq and Afghanistan.
What a great man.
It is sad that we have gone from Reagan to what we have today. Great speech
ezview243 No kidding. This unchecked immigration, among other things, is going to kill our nation.
+Anon54387 I agree, but our politicians can't fix the problems, yet want to increase the variables to the problem with no answer to the equation. If someone says fix the problem your racist. I'm a racist because I want answers to our (all people) problems.
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES CAN ANYONE VOTE FOR HILLARY CLINTON. A CIVIL WAR IS KNOCKING AT THE DOOR.
we could use a man like Reagan in these trying days!
WOW, Two Leaders in Total Harmony!!
my children don't know what they missed. I tell them but they live in a different time.
Masterful
I am a freedom loving American and I love Churchill. I hope god gives us another Churchill to help Britain restore her freedom from the socialist policies that burden her so.
Why couldnt America have a president like Ronald Reagan? Instead of the British hating Obama.
true hero!
Not only did the USA prosper but the entire world.
Reagan didn't waste time trying to ban sagging pants, ban guns, ban french fries from school lunches, or tell us how to behave.
Indeed, saintpeeter. Last true POTUS we've had.
The Man............I watch old stuff like this and remember....how smart he was. Thank God.
I love watching him too. This is one of my favorites, I was born in '92 I don't understand the Churchhill China shop bit and can't seem to find anything about it online.
Thanks for replying. Americans have a reputation for being loud, crude, big-ish. ... There is an old joke about an American that 'Walks into a china shop'.....who can't turn around without. messing everything up. That's his refrence. He is making a joke about himself.
Those who sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither.
You should at least state that it was Mr. Franklin that uttered those hollowed words.
No teleprompter. Try it Obama, see how well you do.
What a great speech, delivered with purpose but humility. How different to the petty mud slinging associated with current Republican nominees.
He is a fan of Churchill it seems. My favourite Churchill quote is "ohhhhh yeasssssss"
Reagan was a statesman, Romney is a businessman
Don't agree with him, but gotta say I'm impressed with this. Never visited the US, but I'm sure tempted to now
You'd be welcomed, agree or not.
Sure you agree with him. nobody likes commies :)
splinterbyrd Why don't you agree with him? What tempts you to visit America?
***** Economic and defence policies screwed the poor and brought east/west to near nuclear confrontation. But I like the Americans' attitude to life in general
+splinterbyrd Engaging Russia in an arms race is what brought Russia to its knees. Now Obama is letting them up off the mat
I can't help but wonder how Reagan would have dealt with September 11.
As our president becomes just another, more dangerous Carter, I think a proper reaction is another, more constitutional Reagan.
at least reagan knew how to give a speech and carry a big stick in the process.Obama could learn from reagan.
When Reagan gave this speech I was but a infant.
well, when he lowered taxes, reagan did it for everyone, COMRADE
He already did, I saw no teleprompter in site in that huge room. Look up barack obama addresses the british parliament.
does anyone else hear something in the background near the end?
smezec,
I surely hope you are not comparing the United States to the Soviet Union??? The Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan for more power and control...the U.S. went there in retaliation for its leadership and part in the 911 terroristic attacks. If your comment is a smack against Reagan, comparing the two events and reasons as similar are absurd.
Wow
Romney is no Reagan.
The British Embassy technically isn't HM's land. The grounds of the British Embassy are US soil.
Actually the land an embassy is on is owned by that country.
NOPE!!!! The British Embassy is British Soil. as goes for the American Embassy in the UK is American Soil just as the American Bases in the UK is American Soil

Not what the U.S. State Department thinks:
diplomacy.state.gov/discoverdiplomacy/diplomacy101/places/170537.htm
These guys think that's a no-no as well:

treaties.un.org/doc/Treaties/1964/06/19640624%2002-10%20AM/Ch_III_3p.pdf
Official document in articles 22+ regards the contents of the mission as property of the sending nation, not territory. Otherwise, the U.S. would have OFFICIALLY declared war on North Vietnam on 29 December 1975.
*****
There is however a 10 meter by 10 meter block of concrete in the UK in Runnymede Park surrounding a JFK statue that is technically part of the U.S.
+Ti Ng (吳悌) wrong
...and Churchill was more anti-Nazi than Obama.
Only fools repeat history.
And we seem to be the biggest fools on Earth.
Haha I don't think they took the rebellion jokes well
But does he know the speech by hart, it seems he doesn't read !
+iTube22100 He was an actor. He should have been good at learning his lines.
Eamonn But more than half an hour official speach !! I am a stranger and Ronald Reagan is one of the few I totally understand bacause of his diction. Thank you Ronald :o))
+iTube22100 You can see the teleprompter at 1:55 .
Just "a businessman."
You know what they said about Reagan in his day? He was "just an actor."
Romney/Ryan 2012
@DokktorDeth I sincerely hope you've personally (not just from what your professors have said) studied the conservative viewpoint before saying that.
10:27 Irony anyone?
Actually he does. They are out of frame.
Someone who admires Josip Broz Tito the dictator of the artificial country of Yugoslavia who ruled a country for half a century wants to say something about the great Mr. Ronald Regan. You're watching the wrong youtube video. I suggest you watch Gadhafi and Saddam dictatorships as well.
Dear Gawd...H Clinton, Trump...How we mighty have fallen.
Mott mix send -------('
@forexrobots212 nope. John Foster Dulles.
@forexrobots212 yes he was
Is it or does it seem to me that every single politician only speaks about inflation unemployment and economic restrain??? In every era???!!!
its
Why is Nancy dressed for a funeral?
He was wearing a Stuart wig. I was expecting him to wear a Georgian wig.
Well Ronald Reagan was an actor..so..
