“There is one sign the Soviets can make that would be unmistakable, that would advance dramatically the cause of freedom and peace. General Secretary Gorbachev, if you seek peace, if you seek prosperity for the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, if you seek liberalization: Come here to this gate! Mr. Gorbachev, open this gate! Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!” - Ronald Reagan, June 12, 1987 ruclips.net/video/5MDFX-dNtsM/видео.html
The DNC isn't the party it once was. The DNC has been hijacked by radicals who the former patriototic Democrats once fought from imposing their Bolshevism.
This man was not perfect but had what our present leader does not have .......a pair of brass ones. God Bless President Ronald Wilson Reagan. We miss you and need someone like you more than ever.
So powerful, I was a young elementary school boy in America, almost utopia like growing up upper middle class , considering the present situation is completely foreign . Oh well, it was great while it lasted! Reality bites right So glad to hear from folks who he genuinely had the same impact on in other countries.
I'm in no position to pass judgement on any American president but for me Reagan will always be the embodiment of how leaders should be. I lived under communism and each time I saw him on TV he gave us hope that one day our ordeal would end.
A great man. A true leader. THANK YOU, MR. REAGAN! I am а young citizen of the Republic of Bulgaria, which was a part of the Eastern block. Thank you for ending the era of communism in Europe, thus bringing freedom to all Eastern countries. Thank you!
Vadigor - There are 8 seconds of audio that was missing from our archival betacam video tape where this video came from. We apologize for any inconvenience.
I was a democrat voter at that time. I dismissed his speech when I heard him say tear down that wall, because it was just a speech. I didn't realize that Gorbachev would actually listen and actually implement it. I thought words wouldn't make a difference. I was wrong.
+Ted Baxter It wasn't just words, although words spoken with conviction can change things in some cases. It was also that we were in an arms race with the USSR that they couldn't match. This contributed to their collapse.
Its sad beyond words that I have to go to RUclips and watch a video from the 80s to be reminded what America once was. Strong, proud, prosperous, freedom for all. I can tell from most of the.comments I'm not the only American who wants a real leader like this man. I damn near ache in my bones I want real American, constitutional leadership so bad.
You know, a lot of politicians go up to the podiums and claim to support ideals such as these. But Reagan embodies them. He speaks honest to goodness what he believes. He knew how to play politics, and he knew how to keep our country free. He wouldn't take crap from anyone, yet at the same time we was willing to sit down and discuss peace. Thank you, President Reagan.
He was the last politician I actually cared about, because he cared about something more than getting himself re-elected. He had the guts to stand for something. I miss him.
"East and West do no mistrust each other because we're armed. We're armed because we mistrust each other." Reagan was as much a politician as he was a poet. That speed does more than communicate, it's a work of art.
@Dominic Cecy At 1:58, I think he says: "Ich hab(e) noch keinen Koffer in Berlin" which translates to "I haven't got a suitcase in Berlin yet". At 9:09, he says: "Berliner Herz (heart), Berliner Humor, ja, und Berliner Schnauze (= berlin dialect)" I hope I could be of help :)
An Actor Made President. Nobody would have guessed he could become so Incredible. A Truly loved American President. God Bless Ronald Reagan. You Sir were a GREAT President!!!
This was a historic speech because President Reagan spoke truth as he foretold the dying of communism without insult or condescension. At a time of descending economies he brought hope to the German people as well as to all the world. We need a Reagan today more than ever.
I'm only 31 but watching this reminds me of what a true president looks like. Not by race or color but content of character. Most snowflakes in my generation will never understand this. Sad.
25 years ago now, and yet this speech is still just as inspiring as it was the day it was given. I always recall the Mahatma Gandhi quote: 'When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love has always won. There have been tyrants and murderers and for a time they seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall - think of it. Always.'
I just watched a U.S. President give a great speech. ....No, not Obama at Selma - although I did like the first 15 minutes, the 2nd half was all about his agenda(s). I wanted to wash away the stink by listening to a great speech, back when I was a young, ignorant lad who couldn't have cared less about the world at large. Today, the world is a smaller place. We need to unify with one another in this country, rebuild the alliance of nations we once had, which now lies in tatters. Rekindle our American pride, not for the love of power, control, or admiration, but for the cause of standing on righteous principles on which our nation was founded and built, and the nations of the world have emulated in their own lands. The American experiment was started because we didn't accept the status quo of rule under a monarchy. There is change for freedom's sake, and there is change for change's sake. Our current President seems to believe wholeheartedly that his change is as righteous and necessary as the change spurred on by the great MLK, Jr, and the many men and women, black and white, who took a stand for the rights that were promised to ALL men at the inception of America, the rights and dignity that was still being withheld even after the blood of tens of thousands of American citizens was shed to abolish segregation and unequal rights. Our President seems to think this inequality is still systemically present, and injustice is perpetrated by one class of citizens upon another. While I agree that such injustices do exist, they are sporadic and localized, often quickly chastised and corrected, and the America we live in today (as President Obama himself said) is NOT the same America that existed during the Civil Rights movement. It was a hard-fought battle through peaceful protests that often resulted in clashes and violence, but eventually, peace reigned, and the oppressors were beaten. We still hold for all men, "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness," for themselves AND to protect it for their neighboring American citizens. There is no room for those who would take the liberties granted by our nation and subvert our government and its laws against its own citizens, and perpetrate a betrayal of the values and principles which are the foundation of our nation. We protect and defend the Constitution, because by it and God's grace we resist tyranny, we fight oppression, we retain freedom, and support unalienable human rights worldwide. America has changed this world; it is not something to be ashamed of, but to be humbly thankful for, that our Creator in his sovereignty has chosen a group of courageous rebels to start a new chapter in world history... a chapter in which the world has benefited more than it suffered, has improved more than it has been undone. It is a chapter which we continue to write so long as we have our Constitution, our Flag, and the Lord God to guide us.
I was a teenager in the Carter years. I saw record unemployment, 21 percent interest rates, and high unemployment. I watched as gasoline prices tripled. I saw him disparage the producers of society and reward the nonproducers. Tehn, as if by magic, Carter gave us this phenomenal man, Reagan. Today, I feel eerily like I did in the late 70s, and I can only hope that history repeats itself yet again...but this time, we'll get someone even better than Reagan, would that it was possible...
I still get chills everytime Reagan says to Gorbachev to tear down this wall like he's God forcefully telling Gorbachev let my people go or I'll bomb you to hell. Then the crowd goes wild.
I almost forgot what it's like to have a real leader as President! A good & decent man who not only loves his country and wants what's best for it's people, but loves FREEDOM for everyone. What we have today is Reagan's polar opposite. God help us.
25:19 Amen. I'm a Democrat and an Obama fan, but they were truly the right men at the right time - Gorbachev himself has said, and he's probably right, that the Cold War wouldn't have ended without Reagan, because it would've been politically impossible for a President without Reagan's anti-communist bona fides - even a more moderate Republican, much less a Democrat - to take the steps that led to that Wall being drunkenly danced on two years later.
One of the best PRESIDENT US had ever in history. I'm wondering if US will have Reagan alike President in the future. But I'm still hopping one day we will see one powerful US leader in the future.
habe die Rede auf rias und afn verfolgt .Ich bin Ostberlin . Bin dankbar dass alles so friedlich ausgegangen ist. Danke an alle die daran geglaubt und geholfen haben .
@seenoevil760 i agree with you, obama is just the worse president we have ever had BY FAR he's all talk and no do, i cannot wait to turn 18 so i can vote!!!
The Best Speech ever I saw this speech live as it happen on TV and later that night on the news ... Three years later I went to Berlin in the Summer of 1990 and I was able to go from west to east without a passport it was cool
Thank you for your reply, it is unfortunate that the recording is missing a segment, but it's still amazing that this video is out there in full. Many thanks again for uploading such a powerful piece of history.
Such a great man, as a kid born in Northern England in 1977, growing up reading Marvel comics and savouring all the great american movies of the 80's and music and art etc, i feel blessed to of had such a fantastic man at the helm. As i reach the age of 35 and being a loyal father and husband, only now does his work really make sense. Thank you for all the wonderful memories Ronald and family.
That is the most stupid thing I´ve ever heard. It was not Reagan who brought the wall down. The peaceful revolution of the East German (wir sind das Volk) people together with OK from the Russian PM Gorbatschow, who had seen the signs of the time even to change his own country brought the wall down. In fact the English and the Americans didn´t want that to happen in the first place plus Germany had to give up their Deutsch Mark to get the OK from the French. Greetz from a German.
My high school years. Thank you, Mr. President, for an amazingly powerful speech, with a quote which will echo forever. Peace to you and Nancy. We will always love you both.
Teleprompter or notes,it doesn't matter. The substance of the man behind the podium is what matters. This man has a great deal of substance. You are missed President Reagan.
Well better than all the Yanks where knowing not more about germany than Hitler and the Nazis(under evry german video on youtube is yank whit Nazi comment).
Ben Franklin You need to look at the bigger picture, even though the fall of communism and the Berlin Wall was a good thing, U.S.A didn't do this out of pure kindness, the Soviet Union and U.S.A were political enemies at the time and West Germany shared a common enemy.
I have to give Clinton and Reagan credit, they relished the job of president, they were willing to work the other side of the aisle and they both had leadership skills - we lack anything close to that now.
shaqpopcorn34 You might wanna tell Bill that, because I'm sure he doesn't know he was a Marxist during his presidency. There's not the remotest evidence that he was anything but the massive capitalist he appeared to be - but if you say he was a commie, then, well, in your own little fantasy kingdom, he was.
I love the fact that he addresses Gorbachev specifically. That really gets, me he calls out one man to change this.
Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!” - Ronald Reagan, June 12, 1987
ruclips.net/video/5MDFX-dNtsM/видео.html
+ReaganFoundation They advised Reagan not to say that. But Reagan, the head strong conservative he is, said it anyway.
Ronald Reagan is my hero , he is America's hero
Thank god for Ronald!
+ReaganFoundation G-d bless America, the land of the free and the home of the brave(c)!
yeah we know. we just watched the video
This is the first presidential speech that I remember. I will never forget that moment. President Reagan will always be my President!
Does anyone have any footage of the 21 gun salute firing when he arrived that day? I was on one of the salute guns.
I'm a Democrat and I love Ronald Reagan. I don't agree with everything he stood for policy-wise, but he's very likable.
The DNC isn't the party it once was. The DNC has been hijacked by radicals who the former patriototic Democrats once fought from imposing their Bolshevism.
Same here man
This man was not perfect but had what our present leader does not have .......a pair of brass ones. God Bless President Ronald Wilson Reagan. We miss you and need someone like you more than ever.
So powerful, I was a young elementary school boy in America, almost utopia like growing up upper middle class , considering the present situation is completely foreign . Oh well, it was great while it lasted! Reality bites right
So glad to hear from folks who he genuinely had the same impact on in other countries.
Thanks for Regan's speking! I wish China: tear down the Great Fire Wall!
Freedom leads to prosperity. Freedom replaces the ancient hatreds among the nations with comity and peace. Freedom is the victor.
I'm in no position to pass judgement on any American president but for me Reagan will always be the embodiment of how leaders should be. I lived under communism and each time I saw him on TV he gave us hope that one day our ordeal would end.

"Mr. Gorbachev, open this gate"
probably the most iconic speech of all time.
A great man. A true leader. THANK YOU, MR. REAGAN! I am а young citizen of the Republic of Bulgaria, which was a part of the Eastern block. Thank you for ending the era of communism in Europe, thus bringing freedom to all Eastern countries. Thank you!
I am by no means a Republican - but this is one of the greatest speeches by any President ever. The "Tear down this wall" part had me in tears.
Vadigor - There are 8 seconds of audio that was missing from our archival betacam video tape where this video came from. We apologize for any inconvenience.
This is what a real president sounds like.
True!
You mean what a real vegetable sounds like?
For those wondering. He says "there is only one Berlin" in German
I will NEVER understand liberal's hatred of Reagan......

He was the last politician I actually cared about, because he cared about something more than getting himself re-elected. He had the guts to stand for something. I miss him.

*Sigh* Anyone remember when we had leaders willing to confront and defeat evil?
And the Wall came tumbling down.
Those 68 dislikes must be Commies.
Mr. President, the Free World misses you! Today, more than ever before...
Will be remembered as one of the most positive personalities of the 20th century. Respect! Salute!
"East and West do no mistrust each other because we're armed. We're armed because we mistrust each other." Reagan was as much a politician as he was a poet. That speed does more than communicate, it's a work of art.
A great speech, for a great cause, with a great line, by a great hero.
President Reagan, please come back and fix our beloved United States
HE WAS ONE OF THE MOST TRUTHFUL PRESIDENTS AMERICA HAD...R.I.P. PRESIDENT REGAN 🇺🇸

Ben Weber OMG, a country full of Kool Aid drinkers
Danke Reagan!!!
This speech sends chills down my spine. All done by a true American hero!!
Reagan is one of my favourite US Presidents. His memorable quote-"Tear down this wall"- is spoken at 11:59-12:04.
Our nation was surely blessed by Reagan 's service as our President.
This was a historic speech because President Reagan spoke truth as he foretold the dying of communism without insult or condescension. At a time of descending economies he brought hope to the German people as well as to all the world. We need a Reagan today more than ever.
Commemorating 30 years! Reagan's speech echoed far and wide, the enduring truths of liberating freedom!
I'm only 31 but watching this reminds me of what a true president looks like. Not by race or color but content of character. Most snowflakes in my generation will never understand this. Sad.
This'd have to be his most memorable speech. BRING BACK REAGAN!!
[OFFICIAL] xP4NC4K35x With all of the perks of today's science and technology, I'm sure they can find some sort of way of resurrecting him.
+Stu Pidity I wish we could
one of the greatest speeches of all time

At exactly 12:00 in... "Mr Gorbechev, Tear Down This Wall." That's the good part.

On one was better; Abraham Lincoln
How about Lincoln?
11:19
One of the most powerful spoken moments in history.
25:19 Amen.

One of the best PRESIDENT US had ever in history. I'm wondering if US will have Reagan alike President in the future. But I'm still hopping one day we will see one powerful US leader in the future.
An incredible and amazing President! I was a teen and remember watching this on tv. This country needs another Reagan in office!
True Americans love this man
what happened to those Freedom Values?? What happened to that basic right of people to pursue happiness??
Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!- Ronald Reagan 1987
I am going to build the greatest wall!-Donald Trump 2016
I LOVE THIS MAN -in my meaning the best president you ever had ...his speeches are better than any film Hollywood ever produced
Best president
I thought about this speech when I was at the Brandenburg gate
Truly an amazing speaker. Many thanks for uploading the entire speech.
habe die Rede auf rias und afn verfolgt .Ich bin Ostberlin .
A real leader.
Wow, he was amazing!!
Reagan's theme was always FREEDOM. The Democrat's today is always FREE STUFF.
When I went to Berlin I stood and that exact spot and thought of this speech. Great city and a great country too.
how many Americans really know about this speech?
Not enough.
Teleprompter or notes,it doesn't matter. The substance of the man behind the podium is what matters. This man has a great deal of substance. You are missed President Reagan.
I really wish you Germans would remember who was there for you when you make your nasty little comments about the U.S.A....
Well better than all the Yanks where knowing not more about germany than Hitler and the Nazis(under evry german video on youtube is yank whit Nazi comment).
Youre right, but the usa destroy this relationship themself. maybe bush was an idiot but obama is a liar.
Patrick Berger What would you like for me to learn about Germany?
Sidderix How did we destroy the relationship? Because Obama got caught spying?
Ben Franklin You need to look at the bigger picture, even though the fall of communism and the Berlin Wall was a good thing, U.S.A didn't do this out of pure kindness, the Soviet Union and U.S.A were political enemies at the time and West Germany shared a common enemy.
If my only duty left in life, is to spread the legacy of Ronald Reagan, then I will do my duty with honor.
Ronald Reagan made it possible for his successor Barack Obama to deliver a speech on the other side of the Brandenburg Gate 26 years later.
There's not the remotest evidence that he was anything but the massive capitalist he appeared to be - but if you say he was a commie, then, well, in your own little fantasy kingdom, he was.
shaqpopcorn34 Clinton is a coward!
shaqpopcorn34 um wut
+BloodRedCars Clinton lied to us and gave us NAFTA. He's no good.
Did Reagan go to Nicosia as well? No, United States would never irritate Turkey...
