I am amazed that Kennedy is accurately describing the costs and risks of the space program, without losing its persuasive value. Today, our politicians ignore all trade offs of the programs they propose when addressing the public.
Yeah, that struck me too. He acknowledged the costs, and it even broke it down to the person (40 cent per person, to go up to 50 cent), to make it understandable. A gallon of gas in 1960 was about 31 cent, so it would be equivalent to maybe $4 per person today. So it's not zero, but not overly burdensome. Still great to hear honesty there.

The bravery, the commitment, the passion that Kennedy brought to his vision for this country and it's citizens truly lit up the world. What a gift Kennedy was. Take a snapshot for your mind. You will not see his like again.
This man was more than revolutionary. He was absolutely correct. God bless the memory of a charismatic leader. A life cut short, a purpose that was not, and a legacy that helps others to survive. Peace is the ultimate objective. Nothing with me has changed. Times change, people change, it was said. No, the audacity of hope. Five years later, his brother Robert, and a negro spiritual known as Dr. Martin Luther King. The security for what remains must be absolute. Again, a beleaguered family represents what someone considers as an opportunity. No, because the same man that said to forgive also said that sometimes one has to shake the dust from one’s sandals as one leaves. Knowing the circumstances that surround indifference that refuses to change is what prompted the dedication for the conditions of absolute security.
Smooth operator, handsome, youthful with a gorgeous wife & small kids, JFK was magnetic back then & this country's not seen the likes of someone like him since that day in Dallas.

A visionary and enthusiastic speaker and leader. What a gift to the US this man was.
The more I listen to this speech, the more I realize JFK was one of, if not the most intelligent US President of all time, he was also a great speaker.
Perhaps JFK's greatest speech (among many) and one of the best addresses by a President in the last 150 years.
An indisputably great man, God bless America.
This man got me involved in politics about fifty years ago! One of our greatest presidents. Love ❤️ JFK and RFK.
Jack was great. Thoughtful. Witty, charming, intelligent, respectful, thorough. You did your part Jack. May the Lord keep your soul.
@MADELINE SAUNDERS that's what he was called outside the office
He was catholic so he had to die. Can't threaten southern Baptist Christians, all hail union baptist church.

Not too much respect for Jackie tho, sadly. Public perception is everything to a politician
Of course God loved this little rascal
JFK’s greatest speech on a very hot Texas day.
President Kennedy was a statesman ❤ One of the greatest speaches of the last century ❤
I watch this and weep tears of joy pride and sorrow.
What a man. What a speech. What a president.
Nobody speaks like this anymore. Nobody who really needs to inspire people can REALLY inspire. What a shame
RFK Jr does
What might we have accomplished as a country had this man lived
Right, i was thinking the same thing. But i was like what could we have accomplished. If the Christian white supremacist deep state didn't kill him.
You mean the Mob and Johnson?
@@doogieanese he had to go as he was on his way, on that fateful day in Dallas, to reveal the truth about extraterrestrial existance here on earth ... that was not going to be allowed.

This is what attracts immigrants and talents around the world coming to US, not just opportunities but also idealism and great leaders
Kennedy and Lincoln were our two greatest presidents at giving speeches which inspired people to believe in something greater
This is easily the highest quality audio of this speech I have heard. Normally the JFK Library audio files are crystal clear, but for some reason missed the mark on this one. I really appreciate you all posting this.
Much love,
James ❤
This needs to be mandatory viewing in every school in America.
Now, we can barely grasp how far and how fast we have fallen in the last sixty years since we reached that lofty summit.
Biden would be stuttering, mumbling and fallling down the stairs if he had to give this speech
This is why I love JFK so much! He had a great belief that America could once and for all stay at peace and go to the moon. And because he was so kind and had a good sense of humor.
John Kennedy was a great, inspirational president.
JFK is not before my time. He is of my time. He is my man. He was my Daddy's man, when he served three tours in Vietnam. My belief is that he had incredible wisdom and believed fervently in the little man.
Listen to how charismatic this guy is and can move people. Now look at what we have…unreal.
Cheetolini 🗑️🔥
It's so sad that he didn't live to see that great dream realized. God Tier speech for sure!
imagine the speech after succeeding the dream!
President Kennedy already saw his dream come true before he made this speech. The rest of us had to wait until 1969 to see his dream come true.
I love this Man legacy. Love everything about his character. THE MAN.
I listen to JFK and can't help but thinking of Joe Biden. Oh, can't we have a president of JFK caliber? God bless America.
JFK said, we choose to go to the moon, , not because it is hard, but because it is the right thing to do. How uplifting is the speech. .
Best speech in the history of humanity.
Such an inspirational and witty speech. Love the interspersed comment about Rice football playing Texas ! He woke up a few people with that comment !
Kennedy was before my time , but I listen to his speeches whenever I need an uplift .
The Rice football team?

I was 6years old when this most wonderful speech was given. JACK,WE SO DEEPLY MISS YOU AND YOUR BROTHER BOBBY!
Dude.. who delivers a speech like that these days. Legendary.
“causing heat about half that on the temperature of the Sun. Almost as hot as it is here today.”
Even Kennedy knew Houston was hot as hell
We choose to go to the Moon. We choose to go to the Moon...We choose to go to the Moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard; because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one we intend to win, and the others, too.
@John F. Kennedy
Amen.✝️😂
And he could of said, save our earth from greed and stupidly
What an inspiration after all these years🙌🏻He’ll forever lived in the hearts of people even non Americans!
This speech will motivate you to do anything. One of the best ever done!!
RIP JFK May you be drinking god’s sweet nectar in heaven ❤️❤️
i am such a nerd for space exploration, and learning about what else is out there in the stars. every time i see new pictures from the james web telescope, or hear of plans to send people back to the moon/to mars i always think back to this speech and think how far we've come.
i feel like whenever in the future humanity has colonies on other planets this video will be playing on a loop somewhere in a museum on those colonies.
The bravery, the commitment, the passion that Kennedy brought to his vision for this country and it's citizens truly lit up the world. What a gift Kennedy was. Take a snapshot for your mind. You will not see his like again.
I regret not listening to this speech earlier .So confident and full of conviction. Very honest .
Back when one could be proud of it's president...
Such a inspirational speech from JFK ! He absolutely knew America could & would put a Man on the moon by the end of the decade ! Such a young and dynamic President Of The United States ! Thank God for giving us such a leader as JFK ! 👍👍👍
His death changed everything

Kepler wrote to Galileo that there will be ships to sail the voids between the stars, and there will be men to sail those ships. Kennedy did it.

This speech, the Gettysburg Address, Churchill's bone - chilling
"We shall fight...", FDR's " A day which will live in infamy..."
Don't know if this sort of thing is even taught in schools anymore...but if it is, students, if you closely examine these examples, and utilize the knowledge therein, you will get a 4.0....
Been watching this a bazillion times...always makes me tear up...
Godspeed, Jack.
Very well said. Those are truly great speeches, nothing like what passes for oratory today. We can but hope the pendulum will swing back to this sort of speech.
Thank you.
of course it is taught in school

I wanna say the best American president in history along with Lincoln
Listening to this, I can but keep from asking - why this country can no longer have a man like this for its leader.
Because there are evil forces still present that don’t want us to have this type of leader.
It's now a month past the 60th anniversary of this monumental speech. "WE CHOOSE TO GO TO THE MOON IN THIS DECADE..." replays in my head over and over after the successful launch of the SLS for the (ongoing as of this post 11/18/22) Artemis I mission.
We will be returning to the moon in this decade, not to visit, but to stay! GO ARTEMIS!
May God bless the memory of John Fitzgerald Kennedy. May the Union and the Constitution live forever. May God bless the United States of America.
I rem as a child how my mom and her mom both cried together and mourned when we lost this great Leader of the free world.
