It always inspires me how the Sorry Girls don't feel sorry about sharing their failures which makes the learning even more fruitful and not only the beautiful end products but celebrates the whole process as well! Have a great year ahead and keep inspiring girls!!
The biggest issue I can see with the alligator roller is that the pattern is made backwards; the little oblong squares and rectangles should be cut out and the lines between them are what needs to be on the roller. This way it presses IN the lines and leaves the 'puffy' shapes behind
I knew it looked a bit off but I couldn't figure out why! I never do anything alligator pattern related, so I didn't realize what it was until I saw this comment lol. :D
Omg that Mod Podge "rehydrated" looks like a freakin' NIGHTMARE... so inspiring!! xD Maybe you could reuse that "trick" and do red bottles to "rehydrate" Mod Podge in around Halloween, and make creepy AF little bottles?! I know we usually make things cute on this channel, but I could go for a "Gory Girls" Halloween special!! 👻 lol
For the amber bottles: maybe try dishwasher safe mod podge? It should hold up to water. And maybe letting them dry longer than 2 hours before putting in the oven might help with the drips? Just brainstorming 🤷♀️
I think the table would be absolutely lovely in my back garden! I could see myself adhering a stone bowl on it as well to make a bird bath or feeder. So cute and so easy.
Thanks Danielle, I'm so glad you like the idea! It's honestly one of my faves, and I've made a coffee table version if you want to check that out on my IG.
Good try on the crocodile roller! The key to a realistic pattern is to have bigger rectangles in the center, gradually going to the smallest rectangles at the sides. The bigger scales are on a crocodiles back and the tinier ones are on his belly.
I think with the small amount of input you had about how these things were made, you did pretty well. The glass looks really cool, and personally I like imperfections, it adds detail and makes things look unique.
not gonna lie I got SO excited when I saw one of Geneva's best diys getting noticed in Canada bc she's an Aussie like myself! the travertine table is just incredible 😩
🤔 To mimic travertine thickness, could tiles be glued together back to back, and the visible "seam" filled in? The table turned out great though, and I imagine substantially lighter in weight than the travertine would be.
I like the paper tube crocodile look. I was thinking if you had covered your paper tube in contact paper before putting on the foam then it wouldn't get saturated from the paint. Thanks so much for sharing these.
@@missdamzlroost yes as I said "typically" used indoors not never used outside but you can find it inside at most home hardware store with the kitchen and bathroom tiles.
Depends, I live in CA, and travertine is definitely used in outdoor landscaping. Maybe it has to do with not having to be concerned about freezing that could cause cracks and chipping.
Thank you so much, I'm so glad you like the idea! I was planning to use the tiles as a dining table but made a side table instead and I love it! I also made a coffee table version you can find on my IG :)
Kelsey some times I am so impressed with what your brain can do and other times I’m screaming “girl you coulda just bought a silicon rolling pin or a wood one!”
I think the roller would have worked better if you cut the shapes out of a single bigger piece and then glued the remaining lines to the roller (gluing the shapes on inverts the $65 roller)
The last one you killed it. The gator board you should have used a lighter color and thicker foam board. The glass vases you did not give up and the second try was fabulous.
I’ve seen the amber bottles on Tik Tok several times now and always wonder if you could use some kind of clear sealant or resin to finish the insides. Even if you didn’t use a food safe sealant, you could then use them for storage (paperclips, Q tips, pens, etc.) or for other diy projects.
When you tint glass using that method you first need to set them sit upside down on some newspaper to get all the excess Mod Podge out. I usually let them sit about an hour or so. Set them right side up when you put them in the oven. It also helps to turn the oven off when they’re done and let them cool off slowly in the oven as the temperature cools in the oven. They make dishwasher safe Mod Podge if you want to use water with them too
I was listening to a podcast and apparently accidentally clicked my notification while putting my phone down. I definitely thought this was a Sorry Girls ad in the podcast for a solid 10 seconds.
I did the "amber glass bottles" hack a few years ago with a round fish bowl looking glass bowl from dollar tree and used blue acrylic paint and modpodge. I just painted the inside with a thin layer and let it dry( right side up if I remember correctly) then painted again(about 3 times total), let it dry and never needed to put it in the oven.(Took 2 days because I had to go to work between layers.) Then I tied together a twine net and tightened it around the bowl, I left the bottom uncovered from the net so it sat flat. It turned out to look like a really cool glass float look alike bowl. It was a gift for my sister, who always wanted glass floats, she still uses it and as far as I can tell when I look at it, it the paint isn't scratched and it holds up really well.
Very Nice positive feedback... So many ways of looking at things perceptionally, Right No bad ideas just different ideas of How to Achieve Them All Kelsey's Ideas we're Great... If at first you don't succeed try, try again... Right !!
the travertine diy looks soooooo good!!! like super high end looking and i would love that as like a side table or a plant stand. for the crocodile one i wonder if you bought some faux crocodile skin fabric and glued it onto the cardboard roll and then used that to roll if that might work? im not sure but if anyone is interested in experimenting a faster way to do that diy it might be worth a try
The table was amazing, the bottles were very cool and seem pretty attainable to me, and the crocodile skin, while not my taste, was a good affordable interpretation of the original product.
I think this just proves that TikTok either lies or people can't express full ideas in 15 seconds. TSG is a groups of highly talented people but I don't think these had much of a chance of working. The bottle "hack" is making a simple thing overly-complicated. There's spray paint made for that purpose that ends up being cheaper and faster. Good job on the table, though, for sure!
Now that's A Clever 💡 Idea !! Because of the blades on hair trimmers I'd give it a shot, and Kelsey it sounds like a Good plan that could be very successful ... But if it worked I'd poliurothane over top of it to get not only protection but some gloss when completed Love your ability to think outside the box...
I would cut that alligator pattern into a foam sheet and then wrap the foam sheet around the roll so that you would get a texture more aligned to the inspiration.
Absolute wins on the first and last projects, and just okay on the second one - like someone else already said, the texture is backwards. (And maybe use a pvc pipe instead of a cardboard tube so you coukd use it again.)
90’s and 80’s people are allowed to say “yay or nay” 🤣 (I feel so old around my younger siblings and cousins, not knowing what the hel they are saying)
I wonder if you had cut those pieces out of one sheet of foam and used the sheet with the holes out of it wrapped around a roller if that would have given you something even closer to the results? But loved them all! I think you did amazingly!
I'm just grateful that you had the guts to do what some of us may be thinking of trying. Now we know what not to do, what we can substitute with and so on. So yeah, this video was awesome 👍
For sure you could find some food safe varnish for the glass one...or just use food safe glass paint. And the crocodile one would have been so easy with air hardening/oven bake polymer clay just moulded onto the roller! Super quick too
1) Amber glass looks easy but in reality is probably hit or miss. But I like it. 2) Croc skin faux finish is not my vibe whether DIY or $60 roller... Pass. 3) Winner, winner! That table is Art! Def would do! I like it!
I did this glass painting. I did paint mine on the outside. So I could use the vases. Just modge podge(dishwasher safe) and regular food coloring. They came out wonderful. Ended up painting glass bulbs for Christmas ornaments. Gonna keep doing this one.
I think that the heat in the oven comes from the upper part and that the bottles can dry out quicker if the hot air can get inside the bottle quicker - hence why the upward facing bottles turned out better :)
I've used old orange bags to create a crocodile pattern in lino printing textures and that works well. Also using an artist medium rather than the plaster to thicken the paint would probably be better, also you could get semi or full gloss to give it shine x Shame about the faux Amber class, I've been meaning to try that but might leave that one as my heart broke with your own sadness over the project 😢💔
Would you do fabric painting sometime? I need to change the fabric on the dining room chairs but can’t find what I want so I’m thinking of painting fabric using a stencil. Thanks!
just had a blast from the past. i made the colored bottles before, years ago! not amber, but i think pink and purple. i don't remember baking them, i just turned them upside down and let them dry for a long time, but then there were sharp bit around the rim from the mod podge dripping out and gathering around the rims (didn't have them up on popsicle sticks). I used them to hold pens, and the pens would sometimes stick to the mod podge a little when i tried to pull them out? lol. fun that its a viral tik tok hack so many years later :)
I'm really enjoying the "next up" section at the end of your videos lately 😂 it gives me something to look forward to, and it's fun to know what yall are working on.
Omg the amber glass hack is something I've been dying to find a DIY on, awesome! I do however have a concern, seeing you have a huge following. As a GP-assistant, taking a multivitamin without doing bloodwork and checking with your doctor first, can possibly do more harm to your body than good. Especially when it comes to iron, so you should definitely say that clearly when you recommend these kinds of things. Much love XOXO
I just use black crocodile contact paper. I got a bunch of the adept cosmetics crocodile magnetic palettes and gave them gorgeous gold Gothic labels. Then I wanted my other palettes to match, so I used the textured contact paper. You could repaint it I guess.
Oooh, the table looks cool! I reckon you could glue the “bare” sides of the tiles together to make it thicker like the paver and then you wouldn’t have to paint the other side
Maybe some of the thinner linoleum used in printmaking around a wide dowel would give you a better crocodile paint roller. I'm not too sure. It's a new set of tools, that if you don't already have would add up, but probably still under the $65 price tag.
PEBEO Vitrail (stained glass) paint or PEBEO Vitrea 150 (goes in the oven) is much better for the stained glass bottle. and it's not much more expensive than food coloring plus modpodge - Vitrea, once it is cooked in the oven, is dishwasher safe too and it painted outside the glass can be used with water... that DIY is more for people with no craft store near them - cause you should get PEBEO at least in Canada

What if you could poly over the paper to keep it from breaking down if it would then work⁉️ afterwards maybe but liked the idea of using hair trimmers on real rollers to get the look of alligator skin... So it doesn't attract Bugs... And Looks, like Expensive Leather walls....
I am not sure why the original creator needed to mix food coloring with mod podge when they sell glass paints that will do this and are made for this use and are washable. Like if a functional product exists for a purpose you don't need to make your own.
The alligator roller needs to be done again! Like another comment said, the texture comes from the indentation around the "rectangles," not the rectangles themselves. That may help 😊
For the alligator scale pattern I would use a projector to trace or even easier I've taped parchment paper to my laptop and very lightly traced with pencil the pattern from my laptop and then transferred it to whatever surface, in this case the foam, by putting the pencil side down and rubbing on the other side with a credit card. Both alligator and crocodiles have pretty symmetrical scale patterns with the largest scales in center going in a pretty even row and then smaller on the sides for the belly. This pattern looked a little too random.
Do y'all remember doing the glass stain back in the apartment?? Pre-loft? Y'all stained some mason jars and did like a moraccan theme! I did that diy with my cousins!!

hack or hoax is kinda a vibe honestly
Love this idea ! H/H
In the mountain biking community, we refer to “hacks” and “bodges” (a hack that ends up being unnecessary or ineffective).

What in all the land is "fact or cap" 😅 80's baby, over here.
The optimism about the crocodile print is cracking me up
Travertine for the win! The alligator idea is interesting, but the diy roller is a hard one.
They have a dishwasher safe mod podge that cures over like 30 days. Could probably use that if you wanted to out water in the jars
Table looks great, my only concern would be is it stable (my cats jump up on tables and I'd hate for them to topple it or break the top off
