Oh how I wish we had somewhere like that near me. I'd be skint but very happy, Thanks Mark.

I have to be disciplined not to come away with more as it’s just amazing to touch and feel the quality of timber.

It's a small world. Yandles, in Martock, is about 20 minutes away for me. Like you say, you could spend a small fortune in that place.

The in laws live in Dorchester & I drive past Yeovil on my way down to visit (from oop norf to daan saaf), so I'll pay Yandells a visit at some point.
Wood is not cheap. One of my solutions for keeping the workshop stocked is Freecycle. I get a ton of free stuff, from pallets to old teak doors & parquet floors to plenty of old oak furniature. Also old line bed frames & slats. I always tell people I plan to upcycle when I message them & leave nicer bits of furniature for people in need but it's a great source of free wood & is better than it going to the tip! Old doors are a good on. Had a few massive teak doors which are super useful.
The local tip has a charity shop & often sells nice bits of furniature for £5-10 which I can break up & use in projects.
I always have a nose in skips, as you never know what you'll find. Last summer I saw one with a large amount of mahogany. Big solid chunks & cladding. I had a nice chat with the guy renovating the house & he was happy for me to dive in & rescue it. Not sure what it was but some of the pieces were 3" thick by 5-6ft, so worth keeping one's eyes peeled.
People just don't see the value in old wooden furniature & just want it gone so they can bring in some 'quality' Ikea chipboard crap lol

Hi Rooster, love this and all your up cycling, it seems you regularly get some amazing pieces. Enjoy yandles when you get there, I think you will find it a tad more expensive than what you’re used to. Do drop into the restaurant they have some great food.

@@thesmallworkshopadventures7522 Thanks. Not finding a lot of Bubinga or Walnut in skips, so will have to prize open the old wallet & pick up a few nice pieces of hardwood next time I'm in that neck of the woods :)

Yandles of Martock is only 20 min away for me but I must keep visiting down to at least 6 weeks ? Tools and wood means empty wallets

You know it well. My wife usually likes to come with me as you know there is so much more to it. It’s very expensive but very highly quality.

A very nice tour of the lumber yard. Some unusual and very expensive hardwoods. I need to make a trip to my local hardwood yard. I want to make a cherry dining room table.

Nice tour and look around. The price of that timber unbelievable. I don't think I could do it justice with my woodworking skills. Looking forward to the project when I saw the frost on the ground made me shiver. 29deg today. Take care Steve.

@@thesmallworkshopadventures7522 I try to use a wood recycle place near me but even they have got costly to the point they sell a slat of pallet wood at £1.00 to £1.20, even a 80mmx30mm x 3mtr was £7 and all that wood needs to be de-nailed, some time late last year i was going to build a bin storage for 2 wheelie bins the wood it worked out about a £100

Coincidentally, just purchased something online earlier in the week from Yandles, for the first time, great service from them too… 👏🏻
Unfortunately, although I would love to visit a place like that, it is far too far from me and pretty dangerous on the wallet too… 😱 🤑

Amazing that you purchase online and I’m buying at the same time. There’s a lot I didn’t show on my video. I’m generally like a kid in a sweet shop but I do have to remind myself how much I could spend but don’t. Especially on my own projects. It’s always a bit at a time.
      Take good care Mark
