im luckyi have a local joinery near me in ireland who will sell me offcuts, but not the range you have access to there. i have a question for you or your commenters, i picked up a mahogony offcut 1 inch thick 12 inches wide and 24 inches long, unfortunately it has some black staining, i think from water on one side, does anyone know how to address this? if i cut it out i lose the size and have tried some sanding without much success. planing it out would reduce the thiclness by around a quarter i think, cheers.
Sounds like a nice chunk of timber! Can’t help you with the workaround I’m afraid, it perhaps someone else can?? I’ll pin this comment to the top so more people see it, OK? 👍👍
I was so suprised to see this Peter - I've learned a lot from your videos and had woodworking as a hobby for a couple of years now. I recently got into hardwoods and I love this place - I told Tim the other day its a "Middle Aged Man's Sweet Shop", its an amazing place. I've been practicing milling / hand planing amazing bits from this shop. I always find rough planks of oak, iroko, Indigbo etc (some as low as £5) - at that price you don't mind making mistakes !

As I say in the vid I'd heard about it a while back, but hadn't had the chance to get over there - it's a ~3 1/2 hr round trip for me, and tbh it would only be for 'interest' rather than work; really glad I made it across though, and great to see everyone there. I am so jealous! I have very few and limited resources for anything other than big box stuff. You are fortunate. My wife said it is good that it is across the pond or I would have to build a new storage shed for all the wood I would bring home!

Just went here yesterday, its my third or fourth time. I would say for anyone intimidated by going to a sawmill or lumberyard for wood, this place is nothing like that at all. Tim is very welcoming and is willing to share his knowledge of wood with you and understands that a lot of people (myself included) can't accurately identify every wood they see. Great guy, great shop, great prices and thank you Peter for giving this shop the attention it deserves.
Yes, all very approachable, and Tim's very knowledgable and generous with his time; I just hope he doesn't get too busy from now on! 😂 👍

Gr8 vid Peter, not enough of these where to type vidz. In the states you can't help but trip up in exotic woods but here it's almost impossible to find good retailers at a sensible price unless you do starship milage or pay mega bux for shipping.

Nice to see these exotic wood supplier shops. When I lived in Arizona (USA) I made some candle holders out of Mesquite and other small turnings. I went out in the desert and grabbed a few limbs to try out my new wood lathe. If anyone wants a beautiful turned project ask someone in Arizona to mail you a small piece to try out. It reminds me of hickory only in the way it has dark splotches throughout the lighter color (or visa-versa it's been many years). The small mesquite trees have a lot of turns and angles and not very much straight limbs so this wood is good for small projects like small bandsaw boxes, small wood turnings, starburst tables etc. Very very rare to see anything made from this wood but when you pick and choose it makes a beautiful project. Just my 02. Beware that some limbs do not have color in them (why the "pick and choose".

Looks like Shangri - La, with wood, in Essex. Similar place in West Yorkshire near Ilkley called British Hardwoods. Trouble is you often end up spending too much.

Tim Moran it’s a place you go to wanting to only spend a tenner in, and end up spending £50, but what you get is well worth the extra.

That is an amazing place to go shopping you were very restrained. It's just a pity it's 4 hours away for me. I need to go on a British isles wood road trip😀 PS the vlog style video is a nice change, you need to find some musicians in a random park next, and some chickens at the end😀

Hi Peter, I wish that place was closer to me, it would take me about 6 hours to get there. In one way it is good that it is so far away because if I could get there in about an hour my bank balance would be in the red!. great place and fantastic prises.

Been here, amazing place. Tim is an amazing guy, knowledgeable and helpful. I bought some Ash and Iroko wood. Word to the wise, Iroko is a crazy grain to cut. You really need to go there as it's almost 'wood porn' excuse my language.

Peter, do you have a video on fitting handles to drawers and doors on wardrobes etc? How to ensure accurate placement across several doors etc.
Not specifically, no, though I’ve mentioned the process in a few of the older builds. In short, I fit them after the install, after the doors are fitted and tweaked into position. Then use a level or laser to set the height evenly across them all. HTH 👍👍

Wenge has a bad rep. (get me getting down with the kids! Lol) for causing irritations and possible breathing problems for some people. Careful protection is essential. I'm sure you know this Peter 🤔.

While I'm from Belgium, I've gone to Arnhem in the Netherlands to pick up some nice wood. www.af.nl/ I haven't found any place with nice hardwood available for hobby use closer to home.

@@10MinuteWorkshop It was. I picked up some nice Mahogany from their hobby attic for the top of a vanity. And some basswood for carving. Next time I'll probably get some sheet goods like Mahogany multiplex.
If anyone has any suggestions of places in the Manchester/Liverpool area it'd be much appreciated. I don't think I could be allowed in there on my own without someone holding onto my wallet.
