“I could take a phrase that’s rarely heard, flip it, now it’s a DAILY word” Even better than “Deadly” Yes, more Rakim please Hope you do “I Know You Got Soul”. Stays my fav Rakim track for 36 years. Damn…36yrs!!!
and it's facts this man was saying flow in the 80's its 2023 people still say flow he said not an enemy not even a friendenemy in the 80's he was the first one saying that when everyone else said word to your mother he said word to daddy Rakim lyrics still stand the test of time this is why people of all ages have him in top 5 some have him as goat
I was 17 when this album came out. I am very lucky to have even alive when these guys, Public Enemy, Ice T, LL Cool J etc release amazing albums that I still own and listen to to this day. Eric B and Rakim were different from everyone else as his rhymes kept you on the edge of your seat with his phrasing and tempos being what they were. Great work mate
i think its fair to say this was about the first decade of mainstream Hip-Hop. I'm a white gramommie from Canada who was right into Eric B & Rakim, and still dig them. The culture was very different back in the 80s...and continually evolving.
Since you've been introduced to Rakim. The biggest favor you can do yourself is look at when their first album came out. Then, go listen to ANY rap that came before him. That way you will understand how big his impact was. He changed EVERYTHING!!!! Even the album covers. Eric B and Rakim were the first to wear the big jewelry. FACTS!!!
So many great lines from this masterpiece. But my favorite is Rakim said "rap is Rhythm And Poetry" See what he did there? He'll forever be the G.O.A.T.
Examples of Emcees putting the name of their DJ before their name or the name of the group include: 1. Eric B. & Rakin 2. DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince 3. Pete Rock and CL Smooth 4. Grand Master Flash & The Furious 5 This was done most likely because in the 70s at the Beginnings of Hip Hop before rappers were put to the forefront, it was the DJ who was the star.
70s and 80s DJs ruled not Rappers or MCs. Rapping was just coming to be respected as an art and genre. So most groups were controlled by the Dj and featured the MC. Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince so You have Eric B and Rakim.
Not the beginning of hip-hop at all, about 9 years into hip-hop being popular. Rakim is the GOD MC. Alos, hard track without a single cuss word or "N" word dropped. Just real talent and flow. Eric B's beat were amazing as well.
Rakim was one of those rappers others followed and aspired to be. I was like 13 when their debut album dropped, and I loved it, but this track off of this album is definitely my favorite.
Rakim was the greatest Rap lyricists of all time. Some of the all time greats Rappers still verify this! For the record Rakim was a 5%er! The 5% Nation of God's on earth is an offshoot of the Nation of Islam🕌 and many 5%ers were the originators of Hip Hop! Just food for thought💭💡 Assalamualaikum ☝️🤲✌️🕊️
Rakim sounded like nobody and nobody sounded Rakim lyrically or musically. It was a couple that tried to compete with him but NO ONE got as deep as Rakim. Rakim inspired a lot of MC's and they're all dope in their on right BUT NONE of them could do what he was doing, period. He raised the bar way too high !!!
hip hop created 1973 search Grandmaster flash - melle mell but rakim changed hiphop his style is unbreakable he created rythmes what no one know in 80s Rakim God Mc Eric B is DJ
It's ERIC B. & RAKIM because ERIC B. started the group. This video was designed after the success of the Untouchables (K Costner, Sean Connery, & R. De Niro) - 1987, possible the best Gangster movie ever.
If you really want an old school alternative rock experience try Jethro Tull, album “thick as a brick.” The whole album is one story. The lyrics came with the original LP. No one else did that back then. Definitely puff first! Big Bill
This is a song that you gotta listen to without watching the video. The video is highly entertaining with the old school 1920-1940s mafioso visual. But the words don’t match. If you listen to just the words he’s literally taking you on journey for you to follow. You will “travel magnificent speeds around the Universe” without leaving your room….. Rakim is a member of the Nation of Gods and Earth/ a 5% percenter. They were HUGE influence in NYC Youth Culture from the 70s through the 90s. They still exist today but they are not as a big deal as they once were. This Song is basically a message to the Asiatic Black Youth to rise up to the Black Man’s former glory. Brand Nubians “ Wake up” is another song that is God Body influenced and tells the Babies to Rise Up. Look that song up.
I know you sample a lot of different stuff. 🙂 But, wondering,, have you ever watched THE MOVIE, Jesus Christ Superstar? It is a great rock opera. What makes the movie extra special is the settings in desert, production and the powerful vocals (neck muscles on display) 🙂. Ted Neely and Carl Anderson are awesome! Great music.
YOU ARE CORRECT. Rakim is where the intricate writing, writing patterns and bold delivery came from. The first emcee too call himself god.Good reation .React to ruclips.net/user/results?search_query=rakim+myster Rakim - The Mystery ( Who Is God)
Go get his book and it'll take you deeper into his mind, and way of thinking! Now, I like DOC (The Doctor), but he lied when he wrote "No One Does It Better", but I beg to differ!😂

You know what's insane? He was the first to flow using more than one syllable like that. And there is STILL no one that has a flow as smooth as his. His style single handedly changed how rappers flow.
@@LILJ_303 I just found your channel a couple of days ago but I'm an old school hip hop metal head have you ever heard the soundbombing 2 albumn or guru jazzmatazz 1bothe are dope albumns
