You digging in the crates. It's always good to see Eric B and Rakim getting shine. They are definitely pioneers of modern hip hop.
There are a bunch of tracks you can listen to on your trip through the catalog. Rakim is a all time great story teller too. Check out "Juice - Know the Ledge". You'll love it.
Nice reaction ✌🏾
Real hip hop 👍 I’m 52 years old that’s the hip hop I grew up with, never gets old
Correct...Beats on a string....lil bit of dap...no vaseline....talkin all that jazz...i'm bad....all killer basslines with verses barked "on" the beat for max groove
Word.
Exactly we the same age nothing like hip hop when you could dance all night off hip hop, basement parties when people was out just to have fun
Well spoken to all you kings
I'm 56 still poplocking and represent hip hop to the fullest! Mumble rappers...eat a big one sideways!!😂😂
My favorite MC of all time! The God MC Rakim!
Rakim set fire to the track, and didn't even curse in the song. That's talent.
He never did in any of his songs, he made that promise to his mother.
@situationsixtynine8743 he cussed a few times. Listen to "Mahogany"... he said, "you know how far a kiss can go, fuck around and miss the show"
That's just one example. RUclips it 😉
I'm 62 !!! This is my favorite from Eric and Rakim🔥🔥🔥🔥
Remember this is 1987!
The whole Paid In Full Album is 🔥🔥🔥
This has always been my favorite joint from the first time I heard it. Best line in hip hop ever!
"I start to think and then I sink
Into the paper like I was ink
When I'm writing, I'm trapped in between the lines
I escape when I finish the rhyme"
Yes, the opening bars to this song have a special place in hip hop.
Man watching someone of your generation educate hip hop fans on the origins of hip hop and exploring the best to ever hold a Mic..Rakim, makes me emotional. I really appreciate you not letting this legacy fade away. Thank you. Just subbed.
Unarguably the best hip hop song of all time from the best MC of all time.
This is the benchmark for every hip hop tune. Imagine picking this up on white label back in 87 on a Thursday and dropping it on a Saturday night. It took me 3 days to prepare. MONSTER TUNE. As Rakim said, "it ain't where you're from it's where you're at". PEACE!
First time I heard a rapper use the word Encore. His flow is cold his voice sounds like dope. The lyrics impeccable.
Rakim "The God MC", it's only fitting this song samples the Godfather of Soul James Brown. 2 of the biggest influences on hip-hop. Rakim for basically changing the way mc's pattern their rhymes and flows to James Brown being the most sampled in hip-hop.
One thing people forget about this genius of a tune, it was for the dancefloor.
THE GOD!!!!! Ra was a GAME CHANGER! For comparison I would say Ra changed MCing like Steph changed Basketball!
Your reaction is awesome.
The Paid In Full and Follow The Leader albums are incredible.... Rakim is my G.O.A.T./God Emcee.
Yessss!!...frfr
My Melody.....Lyrics Of Fury...Eric B For President
That Bobby Byrd "I know you got soul" is crazy, it's typical of the 1960s jazz music
RAKIM BY HIMSELF CHANGE THE GAME!
Nothing was better than hearing Rakim say " grab the mic like I'm on Soul Train" when they were actually on Soul Train!
Yeah, that was sick!!! The 'Soul Train' performance around 1987 where there performed this song, was a classic, especially when they dropped that line. I'm a 90s kid, but I've lost track how many times I've watched that 'Soul Train' 1987 video...lol
Oh yeah the crowd went wild when he said that 😊. That's engraved in my memory forever forever ever ever ever
Juice - Know the Ledge, In the Ghetto, Microphone Fiend, Lyrics of Fury, Mahogany, Let the Rhythm Hit Em, I ain’t No Joke, Holy are you, Satisfaction Guaranteed, The 18th Letter, When I Be on the Mic just to name a few.
Made my day 😊
One of my favorite from the goat also
Classic. Love Rakim
YOU GOTTA DO ERIC B & RAKIM - MOVE THE CROWD MUSIC VIDEO
I start to think and then I sink - into the paper like I was ink, when I'm writing I'm trapped in between the line, I escape - when I finish the rhyme, I got soul. #goat
What an amazing classic hip hop song. Gotta start moving when this one comes on.
52 years old!!! And this is the hip hop we grew up on!! Rakim was one of the first to emphasize bars, flow and delivery. He changed how rappers brought the heat. Wordplay. Contrast that against these mumble rappers!!!
Check out Rakim album The 18th Letter incredible album
80s and 90s hip hop was a part.I use get loose to this at the Latin quarter night club back in my young days to this song
I remember some hip hop videos from back in the day had amazing choreography. But it was a long time ago so I don’t recall which ones.
Respect for digging in the crates. I hope you do Kool G Rap soon, he influenced a lot of MCs.
Pure fire. I was 13 when this came out
My Era of Rap Rocks .."Nobody Was Injured" 😘
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
The term "Flow" wasnt used in HipHop much at all before Rakim. It wasn't just his lyrics but how he rhymed aka His Flow.
When im writing, im trapped in between the lines/ I escape/ When I finish my rhyme? I got soul. That dope as line on a dance track is crazy.
Wordup.
Deep part is Rahim go this track from Mr. James Brown "I know you got soul"!
“How Many MCs” - Black Moon
Yeah, you get your money's worth with Rakim: Three, maybe four verses. Try Lyrics of Fury next.
Should do. follow the leader
Yeah, he'll mesmerized after that one.
Ain't know words you can say they hit the jackpot on this one Rakim is the King 👑
👍👍👍👍👍👍
Listen to the mix of this and the Jackson 5, which is crazy
Paid in full came out in 1987 as did Public Enemy’s Yo Bum Rush the Show and BDP’s Criminal Minded times were changing.
Check out Live and Let Go by the Hilltop Hoods
Rakim musical massacre up next.
Saafir - “Jus Riden”
I drip steam. Man he did 4th verses. I put this song up against any song in rap history. I'll wait.
You have 2 know that if ENIMEM,NAS & countless others are using your lines you have got 2 b the GREATEST. This is basically y when MC's constantly stole his beats & especially his rhymes, he came up with the rap song DON'T SWEAT THE TECHNIQUE. But 1 of my all time favorite songs for wordplay is NO OMEGA. U wanna talk about going in. But also the cleverness of the song What's on your mind from HOUSE PARTY 3. But watch the master alone & in concert with the DJ J Period videos. Maaaan. The last 1 he rhymes off of WU TANG's C.R.E.A.M. , BIGGIE SMALLS' KICK IN THE FOOR ,DR. DRE'S STILL DRE + others. Immaculate!!!!!!!!
Gawd-level MC! If aliens land, we’d better present them this track as a gift to spare the planet. 😅
Sorry you late on this diamond of a rap song!!. Better late than never though.!!. Lawd have mercy!!...Eric B and Rakin are the GOATS.. RAKIN is hands down, the best lyricist that lives!!🔥❤💯❤
Well spoken king 🤴
It’s the truth king 🤴 you know exactly the truth
Rakin god mc 💯
There’s no better emcee than Rakim and you might have a case for Big Daddy Kane…Paid In Full album is a must to have
Check out this is for the listeners. Follow the leader album
If you haven't done so already..peep ouut Lyrics of Fury!!
This younger generation is so lame and weak with music/dance (or whatever they are calling it) compared to the anything prior to the 90s. Yes 'Lil J' we were dancing our butts off to this and everything else playing in the 70s, 80s and some 90s!!! We come from the GOLDEN ERA OF MUSIC!! I'm a better person for it.
You got that right!!!
Fun fact: Rakim NEVER used profanity in his lyrics.
Not true sir. In fact, his FIRST TRACK “My Melody” had a curse “… same weak sh-t, spitting words and slurs that don’t fit in a rhyme…”.
Rakim is the G.O.A.T.
Pac & Biggie are amateur hour compared to Rak!
Bosting track, Jackson 5 mix is a fab way to sneak a bit of real hip hop into a soul set ❤🙏❤️
All you black boys claiming you ain't heard this classic by the goat is hilarious 🤣
"Filthy", very few people know how to use the term. 😂
My melody is even hotter
