I only shoot RUclips videos with this camera, and it works perfectly for me. It has never once overheated on me in real-world scenarios. However, I don't shoot like you. I record my A-roll for around 30-40 minutes at most and capture bursts of B-roll clips that are not longer than 2 minutes. For what I do, this camera is perfect.
The ZV-E1 is a content creation camera, which is why it fits me perfectly. I use it for what it was intended for. It seems like you're doing more professional work (which requires a different kind of camera) rather than creating content, which explains why the ZV-E1 didn't work for you. However, I still understand where you're coming from. Paying $2300 just to shoot RUclips videos is expensive. Though, I think it's worth the price because of the fancy tech you're getting in a compact and easy-to-use package.
There are also some workarounds for the overheating, such as buying a cheap mini fan from China and opening all the port doors. It's not ideal, but it can help in some scenarios. Regardless, I appreciate you sharing your honest experience with the ZV-E1. I hope you'll have better luck with the FX-30!

I am back with a sun burn, spent 2 hours filming in 4k50 in direct sunlight, no issues at all! - the only thing I did was open all the doors (i.e. battery and side doors) and the LCD was facing me. In doors, in a 24c room, I tested 6.5 hours of continuous streaming over USB, the battery dropped from 100% to around 83% in this time, the camera didn't overheat but I got tired of waiting :)

My RUclips channel is my hobby but it does make me a little bit of money. I bought the ZV-E1 specifically because I do this as a hobby and can't justify spending the money on the a7s3 or the fx3. This camera has been perfect for the content I create and I have never had any overheating issues. So far I did two 30 min interviews, outdoors in 85 deg temps. I just finished an outdoor hiking video using this thing in the heat the entire weekend without any issues. I have the a73 for photography and have all full frame glass. I gave up APSC 15 years ago and not going back so the fx30 is out of the question. Particularly considering how clean low light shots are with the zve1 VS the fx30, (according to the videos comparisons I watched). I wish the zve1 had better weather sealing but that's about it. I am waiting on that fan coming out though just in case. Sounds like it will be around $100 for the cage and the fan when it is released.

I'd just personally recommend getting a used A7Siii for about $2600, it's a professional grade ZV-E1. It's a bummer that Sony allowed this to happen, hopefully something firmware can fix or at least help with. I think the heat build up is def in the battery area and the usb connection is probably adding to that heat. I've heard people say the same about the A7IV just giving the overheat warning while it's sitting and not recording, I wonder why that's occurring. I would def recommend anyone with the ZV-E1 put it in airplane mode and turn off anything in camera you don't actually need e.g. pre-af as well just to hopefully reduce some of the processing it's doing. It could also be a case by case thing, I know people who had a6300s overheat and I never experienced this at all. I'd be curious what results are when recording externally (HDMI ONLY, not SD Card) and seeing what it can do. Some have tested via HDMI but I think they leave on the internal recording when doing so. Strange.

I would like to use the E1 but I can't depend to get the job done so I am waiting to see what the a6700 is going to look like. At the very least I will not have to buy new lenses for it. The E1 did not look like a fully baked product to me and Sony keeps dropping a new camera every 3 months with little support for the old stuff. For the most part I think the "E" in ZV-E seem to stand for Experimental for items that will be added to new produces. Don't be surprised if 120FPS is the last update you see for the ZV-E1.

It bugs me when i hear people band around the word 'professional' and 'content creation' they can be the same thing . I make social media videos sometimes for clients- anything from the games industry to the defence industry. Sometimes i hire a team with all the bells and whistles, sometimes i just stick my phone on a gimbal or use a smaller camera depending on time constraints, it's all about the budget and the time restraints. I would be quite happy using the ZV-E1 on a professional shoot, if it was just a quick one where i needed some nice Broll and maybe an interview or two for an exhibition stand or 'activation' .a
5 day conference however i might bring in a team with longform cameras, i might still use the ZV-E1 for capturing networking shots and the occasional interview if there was no time to wait.

Damn, I’m looking for a full frame sony camera that does 4k 60p with little to no rolling shutter with the ability to use telephoto lens’s.
I was hoping this was going to be it but I need to record in all environments without overheating.
I didn’t want to spend FX3 money but it looks like I have no choice.

@@joecline__ Thanks for the recommendation but from the video’s I’ve seen it seems that the a6700 overheats in about 30ish minutes when recording at 4k 60p

@@MichaelBSteeleAviation I don’t think that’s true. From the test that I’ve seen it doesn’t overheat at all. People have ran it until either the battery died or the card was full.

Use a dummy battery for podcast recording. The battery is overheating the camera faster.

This is not what you buy this camera is for 🤦🏻‍♂️ this is for anyone that’s wants a a7Siii for 2,300 and will be shooting clips or 5-15 minutes max at a time even Sony tells you how long you can shoot before overheating. I can’t tell you how many videos I’ve seen of people buying this camera that have no business buying it, one guy I saw the other day sold his FX3 and bought this camera 😆 and was complaining about it overheating. Every reviewer said the same thing, this is not a camera to set and a tripod and just record for a hour.
You have to stop buying gear just cause it’s the new shiny thing, buy what you need when you need it and you should not have to upgrade for years.

The zv-e1 was dead on arrival. Besides the price, overheating is unacceptable for ANY camera brand (looking at you canon). The fx30, lumix s5ii, and even the a7C(8bit and all) are better options.
If image quality is the criteria:
    Older cine cameras
    Black magic pocket cameras
Even the original lumix s5 is around $1k now.
I’ll say it again, dead on arrival.
